What a fantastic pub, cosy atmosphere and the most delicious food. Staff were so friendly and the food was the best I have tasted in a long time. Fish of the day was outstanding and cooked to perfection. My friend had the pork belly which was equally as good and very tasty. Generous portion sizes. Their homemade chocolate brownie was out of this world. I will definitely be back. Good value for money too. The pub itself has so much going on.

So impressed with the food and ambience here! Two vegetarian/vegan options for main today, burger and fries or crispy teriyaki tofu. Went for the tofu with quinoa and edamame salad, pak choi and pineapple, packed with flavour and definitely not something I could do at home. Dessert was coconut arancini with coconut ice cream and mango, equally amazing. Wish I had taken photos but couldn't wait to dive in. Great service front of house and my compliments to the chef for giving me the best vegan/vegetarian meal I have ever had! Really imaginative and brilliantly executed. I'll be back!

We have visited the NightJar on 2 occasions now and both times have been exceptional. The pub itself has a nice cosy feel yet very modern and stylish. On both occasions we have sat upstairs and we love how spacious it is (the room itself and the tables- no elbow wars!) and it is beautifully decorated with fairy lights which added a lovely touch. The staff are so welcoming and polite! Very attentive and helpful with any questions we had regarding the menu. The menu itself has something for everyone. On our first visit we went with a fussy eater and she managed to find something she could enjoy. It was very difficult to choose what to have as everything sounded wonderful. The food is AMAZING! Proper fresh, local ingredients and presented beautifully. Everything is made fresh and you can definitely tell! I wish I took photos of everyone’s plate but they were eager to get stuck in! Was very impressed even with the toilets! Lovely hand cream and a basket filled with toiletries should we need them - a lovely touch! So pleased we have found this place as we live only 15 minutes away and it has now become our new favourite! We have booked for a table of 21 for a Sunday roast in December and cannot wait to show it off to our family and friends so this place can get the recognition it deserves. Thank you the NightJar Inn! See you in December!

We were recommended trying The Nightjar ...so we booked for Sunday lunch .. omg it was fantastic, we had 4 different mains Beef,Lamb Shank (off the specials board) Chicken & Pork belly all were cooked just right served with the usual suspects..but the horseradish mash was unexpected but delicious. My wife had Apricot, raspberry and coconut sponge, she asked if there any chance she could have cusy(not on the menu) but chef made some ... Excellent service, great atmosphere and top notch food 🙏🙏🙏

First visit to the Nightjar as we had heard good things. We ordered a starter and a main each, which were good sized portions. The selection of beers was great, local ales from Otter brewery and Salcombe. There was also Moretti available along with a few other lagers. We also noted there was a large selection of gins if your into that. The ambience was great, not really busy but a hum of conversation, not too loud. Also another benefit was it’s dog friendly, we will definitely be visiting again! A great find.

Great location and decor but sadly the food was not to the same standard on our visit. We were part of a large group which was a challenge at 6pm im sure but our starter didn't arrive and my correct main didn't arrive. The staff were great and my dinner did arrive in the end but seasoned Rosemary chips they weren't as just a pot to sprinkle over. Our friends chicken pie was overcooked and dry but they didn't want to raise plus their flat bread starter was dry with no butter at all. The staff deducted our burger cost without being asked which was a nice surprise but the food needs to be better for the cost. Sorry as this goes against most reviews and it is a great venue so hope food was a one off

Friday 28th April What a shame, table booked 7.45, friendly welcome, all looking good. Order taken, then we waited and waited for our food, which tbh, was ok at the best. Got a sort of ‘sorry it took so long from the waitress’ but it’s not her fault. Can’t remember the last time I didn’t leave a tip. Will try again sometime. Hope I can leave a better review next time

We have lived 6 miles away from this pub for years. And not only had we never visited it, but we were not aware of this gem! It is a modern pub, until you walk inside, and what a revelation. This pub has a lovely interior, is comfortable and warm. The menu is varied and appealing, and the food is excellent, as is the service. The only criticism is that when we visited, there was a long wait for the food.

It was a cold day when we visited. We sat at a table and a customer made a phone call whilst holding the external door wide open. After 5 mins he was asked by staff to shut the door but by this time the bar was very cold.We asked why no heating was on and was told the boiler was broken. We asked why the log burner wasn’t lit but no one knew or offered to lit it.Having been told that they hadn’t had a delivery of potatoes so the menu was limited we decided that eating in a cold pub wasn’t something we wanted to doSuggestion to landlords ... a warm cozy pub attracts customers. Freezing pubs drives them away.

2nd visit as loved first one. Friendly front of house staff, ambiance and restaurant style of decor so good and just as we remembered and loved by our friends too. Menu very similar to first visit which was soon after it reopened earlier this year. Courgette, pea and mint fritters still totally wonderful. But ....... I had told the staff when making the booking that I was gf and df. They said their pork belly was still on the menu, so I thought I would be ok. Pork belly now done with a sauce I couldn’t have and the potatoes had butter in them. Hake had a parsley butter, but also the crushed potatoes had butter in too! So that left the butternut squash curry. What came was a Chickpea and squash curry ( they are changing the name!), and so much of this rather drab and dry chickpea curry ... chickpea thicken mixtures!! The gf roll rather than the flatbread! Was tasty but I asked for some flora or other spread. They don’t have any! My husband spoke to them afterwards and they said they could have made something if they had known!!!! Sounds like a communication weakness there as I always let them know. But, they keep a small menu to ensure they can keep quality I presume and obviously pre cook all the potatoes etc. but are not thinking about today’s world of intolerances and having options. So I paid £30 for my meal of a g&t;, fritters, rubbish curry and complimentary sorbet. . Would I go back? Yes as everything else is right, but only if I am assured that they want me there by thinking about options for food intolerances that make for a tasty and enjoyable food experience. The others all enjoyed their meals, and the brownie looked great, but I can give you a recipe with gf flour, flora and lots of good quality dark chocolate that is sooooo scrumptious and then people like me and vegans can enjoy it too.

Probably one of the best Sunday lunches I've had for a very long time. I had the pork, another in our party the beef, both were well cooked, a decent amount of veg, gravy and a generous Yorkshire pud, other dishes we ordered were vegan and apparently also good. The place itself has been decorated in a tasteful modern way yet still maintains some aspects of the old village pub with large pictures of the village, wood sculpture and funky wall paper, love the parrots. We ate downstairs in the dog friendly bar/restaurant which is bright and airy, linked to the upstairs by a central atrium, the upstairs being more restaurant like and suitable for larger parties. The bar downstairs is well stocked (except for a poor selection of teas and coffees) but also has a seating area with stools and high tables if you just want to have a beer or two. There's a decent size car park to the rear. Toilets were clean and funky, staff attentive and friendly. What's not to like?

Good communication skills. Added to our enjoyment. The lunch menu is vegetarian almost to a fault. I was hoping for a meaty dish but the options were limited. The evening menu adds more including steak. However we opted for the fish special; usually on lunch menu and depending on what the fisherman catches and brings to the pub. It couldn't be fresher. And cooked to perfection. And then I had the fruit crUmble; one of the best I've ever had at a pub. Can't wait to go again!

We popped into this pub last Sunday (1st Sept 19) and just had a drink. We asked to see the food menu and thought that it looked good. What we liked was that a lady from the bar came over and asked if we had any questions, and gave us some more information about specials etc which we thought was great customer service. So we booked for later in the week and had a lovely evening - nice welcome and our table had my name on a Scrabble block (used for holding your letters) which was a nice touch. The menus were accompanied by a description of the specials and our drinks order taken. We like the 'sharers' and the starters selection, so had houlimi fries and minty croquettes which were very tasty; we then had a special - plaice and fish and chips which were nicely presented on the plate, hot and very tasty, and well priced! we didn't have room for desserts but again found potential dishes for the future. Very attentive service throughout and we could see that all the customers received this level of attention. Lovely atmosphere in the downstairs bar, light and very clean. Will definitely come again!!

I visited the night jar with friends - we pre booked and the restaurant was just under half full. We booked at 7.30 - we were seated on some sofas which was really nice - however it took over an half an hour for the front of house to come over with menus and and a further wait to actually order the food.... 9pm came and we still hadn’t been shown to our table so we went upstairs and found it our selves - I managed to attract the attention of a waitress and asked if the food was going to be long - she said, with no apology for the delay’ “we only have 2 chefs” I responded with “I did pre book” she’s said “yes and so did everyone else” and walked off!!!! When the food came it was ok but nothing special - a couple of people had the risotto which had a skin on it because it obviously has been sitting in the kitchen after being plated up for a while. It’s a shame because I expected good things from this place looking at the menus and website but I won’t be returning to waste my money and be spoken to rudely again!

Had a delicious Sunday lunch in my parents local. Really pleased the pub is back up and running and the roast dinners were so tasty, well presented and very reasonable at £12. I had the chicken supreme which was perfectly cooked and really well flavoured. The cauliflower cheese was gorgeous and all the staff were really friendly. Looking forward to visiting again when I’m next back in Devon!

Popped to inn last night, friendly staff and service very good. Had cheesy chips instead of cooking for myself, they were lovely, chunky and plenty of cheese. Often go in on my own and always feel welcome. I love the place

Had Sunday lunch last week. I had nut roast and my wife beef. The food was excellent and good value including the beer! The service was all I would expect. I hope the new management will keep it up.

We found this lovely place by accident about a week ago as we were driving back home to exeter from Sidmouth. We just fancied a village pub and turned off the main road expecting the usual English village pub. What we found was much more. Such welcoming place we felt at home the second we walked in. As it was around lunch time we just wanted something light so we tried the dish finger sandwich. Oh boy was it just delicious !!!!

Recently visited with family for coffee. The service was great and coffee good but the cafe was so cold we sat and shivered! We witnessed other people coming in, then leaving as it was so cold. It needs to be warmed up with the Winter season here otherwise custom will be lost.

Gingerbread house cafe is a lovely local coffee/breakfast/lunch spot on the high st, just up from the beach. I recently ordered a cream tea for two box to be delivered to my mother for her birthday as I live far away. She loved it, it was fresh and delicious and included sandwiches, scones, clotted cream and all the fixings, and she couldn’t have been happier to be surprised on her birthday with a friendly face and a special delivery. They are also very active in the community and offered free lunches for school kids during Covid. A great cafe!

Visited today with my elderly mother with very specific requirements on colour and style. Staff were extremely helpful and it felt like most of the ladies wear team were looking after us. Thank you so much
