Great cafe! After a week of being in the area, 14 Miles East is definitely my go to when I’m back in town. Service is always extremely good and food & coffees are great. Open fish sandwich was 🤯 thanks team!

Greeted by a lady straight away when walked in which was welcoming. Had calamari which was fresh and tasty, then mussels and fish sandwhich. The best mussels over ever tasted! Extremely fresh and taste was incredible! Fish sandwhich was also tasty. Would highly recommend!

This place used to be excellent back when they did tapas- its truly dreadful now. menu very boring compared to old one. Orders a "proper hotdog" - horrible tough skin almost inedible. no one else in restaurant ( bad sign) but long wait to receive chips so badly burnt ( dark brown) that I had to send back to kitchen - waitress brought back new chips later and these were so soggy - not crisp at all awful. If you cant cook chips.... avoid sadly used to be so good.

Stopped here for lunch. Service was slow even though the restaurant wasn't that busy (3 or 4 other occupied tables). Food was nice enough, but I thought the portion size was quite small given it was £15 a burger 🍔 I probably wouldn't return

The service was disappointingly slow, and the food didn't meet expectations. The chips were drenched in oil and inedible. Although the staff made an effort to bring us a fresh bowl, the quality was no better. While the location is lovely and this may have been a one-off, the experience was quite frustrating overall.

We decided to try this lovely café/restaurant for lunch. The windows were open as it is as a lovely sunny day. We were greeted by the friendly waitress who showed us to a table by the open window which was lovely. I had the crawfish open sandwich which came with a very large wedge of granary bread from the bakery next door... delicious and the salad accompanying it was generous. My hubby had the home made hummus and grilled vegetables open sandwich. Bithe were very generous portions and tasted amazing. Excellent value for money and the staff were efficient and friendly. Will definitely return. Well we did actually go back for breakfast the next day and it didn't disappoint. Poached eggs done to perfection and the accompaniment of crispy kale a new addition of taste explosion too good. Thank you. Can't wait to return here in our next visit.

This charming café/restaurant in Sidmouth offers an unforgettable experience for those seeking gluten-free delights. With stunning sea views as a backdrop, the atmosphere is both serene and inviting, making it the perfect spot for a leisurely afternoon tea. The gluten-free cream tea is the star of the menu, with freshly baked scones that are light, fluffy, and accompanied by rich clotted cream and jam. The cakes are equally impressive, offering a range of flavors from zesty lemon drizzle to decadent chocolate, all meticulously crafted to be gluten-free without compromising on taste or texture. What truly sets this place apart is the warm and welcoming staff. Their genuine friendliness and attentiveness make every visit feel special. They're knowledgeable about dietary restrictions and eager to accommodate any requests, ensuring a stress-free dining experience for all guests. The combination of delicious gluten-free treats, breathtaking views, and exceptionally kind staff makes this café a must-visit. Whether you're a local or just passing through, it's an idyllic spot to relax, indulge, and enjoy the beauty of the seaside.

We used the cafe several times during our stay at Sidmouth. The highlight was the afternoon tea we pre-booked for my Mother's belated birthday present. My grandmother is a super sensitive Coeliac and the staff were confident and knowledgeable about cross contamination. I would highly recommend a visit if you need excellent and safe gluten free food. The staff were incredibly friendly too and it was great value for money. You can catch a glimpse of the sea front and everything is clean and tidy. Thanks.

Booked for Xmas Eve but nobody informed us at the time of the booking that it was the breakfast only menu. Thanks for that and my wasted journey and time. In response to your reply......It apoears you feel the fact you had stated on the door of the premises that you were closing early somehow appears to make it my fault. We booked by phone some time ago, I don't expect to have to check a booking physically for further information at the premises prior to attending or traverse its media in case it omitted to tell us something rather important that it ought to as a matter of courtesy have told me at the time. The 1* rating reflects the hassle of trying to find an alternative at no notice on Christmas Eve and the lack of explanation at the time of the booking, clearly the £££s are more important than managing a customers expectations for xmas eve lunch. Thankfully the Blue Ball provided excellent food and didn't close early allowing us to take our time and enjoy the occasion... as well as a breakfast only menu you also didn't feel the need to tell us when we booked for 12.30 that we'd have 90 minutes to eat up and leave as you were closing early, but then clearly I am meant to check all of this myself rather than expect a business to advise me of these restrictions on a very popular and busy day to eat out.

Decided to give this cafe a second chance after visiting over a year ago when I was served an inedible cheese scone with my coffee. At the time the waitress agreed and didn't charge for it. Yesterday was functional but lack lustre service. Good coffee but another dense very mediocre cheese scone with little flavour. I couldn't finish it. I wasn't asked if everything had been alright so decided not to say anything. Scone making obviously isn't chef's forte.! Won't go back for a third try.

Read more for edit. Not great quality ingredients. Sausage was dry, and egg under cooked. My wife couldn't eat half of her meal because her eggs was massively under cooked. No money off our bill and no alternative offered. Will go somewhere else next time. Updated due to response from owner.. we did mention it to the staff and only part of the meal had been eaten. The member of staff did not offer to get a new egg or replace the toast it was on. No offer of a discount either, just like it says in my original review!

Such a disappointing breakfast. I had poached eggs on toast and added an avocado. One of the poached eggs was undercooked and I couldn't eat it. I informed the waitress and she said she would inform the chef but no offer to replace it and they still charged for the full price of 2 eggs and toast even though half of my plate was rendered inedible. We were also disappointed with the ketchup it was the watery cheap tasteless variety, usually a good indication that cheap ingredients are being used all round. Friendly but slow service. Do not recommend and would definitely not go here again. Edit: having read your reply to both myself and my husband I can confirm that literally half of my plate, as pictured, was left. At the time I informed the waitress of the problem, at the time we paid the bill, and at the time she cleared the plates and we left. At no point did she offer anything at all to fix the problem besides 'telling chef'. If it is the case as you suggest that she should have offered to replace, which I agree should have happened, then she needs to be made aware of this because it clearly didn't even cross her mind.

Edit: as per the response from the owner, I feel you are trying to cover yourselves and have not accepted any responsibility. My partner ONLY ate the sausage and toast and the hair was noticed after i had one bite of the food. Also the hat on the chef was NOT fully covered. I'm extremely disappointed that you cannot accept responsibility for this. Very disappointing. Also, were you there at the time of our service?? If so it would of been great if you came and spoke with us, but I guess you were not there. My partner was extremely kind to the server and said to her that he knows it is not her fault. She said how other customers have complained that there are no beans on the menu. We are on holiday and going by reviews this seemed like a nice place to drive to for breakfast however unfortunately we did not have a good experience as I found a hair on my eggs benedict and my partners bacon was rock hard. Our son particularly wanted beans on toast however to our surprise they do not sell beans with any breakfast. Luckily we were not charged but we will not be returning.

A really open plan place that looks fantastic from the outside but once inside feels like an old fashioned cafe, that’s a little bit shabby and a real waste of a fantastic space. The lady who greeted us was friendly and smily which was much appreciated, seated us quickly & left with a smile but the lady who served us was supremely disinterested, didn’t want to answer our questions and was desperate to get away, so we felt rushed when ordering. We ordered drinks which took quite a while to come & one of us had a fizzy drink in a can which came opened, this is ok, but I feel it’s really down to the customer to choose when to open it. The place was very quiet and there were maybe only 8/10 other people in there but the food took quite a while to arrive and when it did, it was a sorry looking affair that was incredibly lacklustre. None of it looked or even tasted like high quality local produce and the toast my husbands eggs were served on (despite coming from the bakery next door) was no better than supermarket basic in its texture, taste or appearance. His eggs were small, cold and over cooked for Poached so didn’t have that lovely runny centre. My breakfast (the veggie) was sadly awful. Whilst the sausages were nice (Linda mcartney) the rest of the breakfast was dreadful. The mushrooms were swimming in oil, had no flavour and seemed like they’d come from a freezer. All I could taste was oil and the flavour was equivalent to those you’d find at the worst of truck stops. The toast was also undercooked, cheap tasting and floppy. The roasted tomato, just like the rest of the dish was bland, under seasoned and watery. Where I was hugely disappointed was with the condiments… all I can say is HELLO VINEGAR .. think food & drink van at an event or carnival. The sauce was just like the cheap and vinegary ones provided for cones of chips & hotdogs. All I can say is, I like the ethos but it’s really not coming across. If you’re looking for something different, artisan or unique then this isn’t the place. We wouldn’t return.

Gingerbread house cafe is a lovely local coffee/breakfast/lunch spot on the high st, just up from the beach. I recently ordered a cream tea for two box to be delivered to my mother for her birthday as I live far away. She loved it, it was fresh and delicious and included sandwiches, scones, clotted cream and all the fixings, and she couldn’t have been happier to be surprised on her birthday with a friendly face and a special delivery. They are also very active in the community and offered free lunches for school kids during Covid. A great cafe!

We visited this pub for a Sunday lunch it was very noisy music was far to loud . I had what was supposed to be roast pork but the meat was brown which still had string on it . Usually pork is white . Hence I didn't even touch it . Just had a plate of veg my husband ordered a lager top which normally is lager with a top of lemonade but his was done with blackcurrant instead . Definitely won't be returning couldn't wait to get out of there
