Why no coffee shop????We live in Seaton and used to spend about £2000 as year in Fields.No more, first call was always Fields coffee shop and then spend an hour wandering and buying!!! Needs proper business advice, Urgently!! PS NOW GO TO OTTER! Free parking good coffee shop AND sell Barbour!

Called in whilst on holiday and looked at a leather rucksack, costing about £90, that my wife wanted to buy. As we stood looking, a woman store assistant came rushing across from 20 feet away, pretended to straighten a price tag, gave us an angry glare, and then strutted back to where she was standing. She seemed to have a problem with us for some unknown reason. This upset my wife and annoyed me so the rucksack my wife was going to buy was left on the display stand and the she devil lost Fields a £90 sale.

In search of a Roka bag, rang fields and spoke to a lovely lady who found one and offered to put to it one side for me. When I arrived I spoke to another assistant who went straight to it, I made the purchase and again served by a lovely helpful member of staff, what can be hard work in other stores was a breath of fresh air...Great staff and service. Thankyou.

How wonderful to find this department store still open when in most towns they have closed.Great selection of stock .I found the staff friendly and helpful .What a pleasure it was to explore this store .No need for a coffee shop with so many in the town .

Visited Sidmouth for the last 6 years, and did enjoy our visits to Fields, but this year, what a change, suddenly they have removed the Restaurant, what a joy that was to go there, and now what we see us just a mish mash of a store. The staff don't look interested, and everything is all over the place. There are people like us asking questions on whether the place is going to close. Then someone should look from the outside of the store, its disgusting, the bunting in a terrible state, old net curtains across the windows, blocked out windows, paintwork in a terrible mess. This store is the big part of Sidmouth, so someone should get off there back sides and sort the mess out.

Sadly the restaurant has closed. A great pity as the staff were very helpful and we have had some lovey snacks and cream teas there.

Superb bacon sandwiches and service.Only let down was the Cappucino was lukewarm.Perhaps I should have asked for it be served HOT.Otherwise lovely experience.

Great place, it maybe expensive, but the things are excellent quality.

Fields will not be the same if they close the resaurant at the end of february. We have come to buy and browse and eat for the last 10 years. If the restaurant goes what will entice "families, the older generations into the shop" Please rethink this " People are always hungry" the loss of footfall will speak for itself. "Fields management" Please read your other reviews "google maps" "trip advisor" and make a note how many mention the cafe/restaurant, if it closes people may just decide to buy online. Departmental shops always have somewhere to eat, average high street shops do not. Market it better, realize the jewel that it is to your brand. Every weekend the most densely populated area of your store is the cafe per sq ft, realize this and build on it, don't shut it down. Simply put the cafe hugely increases the time each buyer is physically in your store to decide to make a purchase, without this they are in and out without a reason to re-enter until the next season of mechandise comes in.

They have some ridiculous pricing. I've bought a Joe Brown dress, on so called '- 20% offer'. Paid 75 pounds to then find out that the same dress on Joe Browns site costed 42 pounds. Not a great experience.

Lovely quality shop! Lots of Christmas gifts. I spent a couple of hours here and bought a few presents, the cafe is very nice too very friendly, helpful staff as well I will be back soon.

Well what a disappointing experience! Coffee shop has lost all its appeal. Gone is the Ilderton world waitress service. Limited food options , hardly any staff and not even a menu on the table... last time we come from Bournemouth for this.

Fantastic shop with surprisingly good prices and lovely range of stock. Ideal for a browse and some great gifts. Cafe staff and food both excellent. Next time in Sidmouth I will be back ☺️

We had a very enjoyable lunch at Fields yesterday. We were all pleasantly surprised by the choice and quality of the menu. The soup was lovely and the sandwiches generous and tasty. So much better than when we last ate here several years ago when there was still table service. Ver efficient and helpful staff. We did think the choice of cakes could be improved. We will definitely use the cafe more frequently now.

We had a cream tea in the cafe today ….. the scones were dreadful like eating sawdust..the worst I’ve ever had

Went to the cafe and a little disappointed. Used to be table service but now we have to queue and order at the counter. A retrograde move which has taken away the former charm of the place. What a shame.

Used word reliable- as though only a limited menu the food served is good, well presented, and served with a smile. At busy times we have found availability of seating an issue but the staff are helpful and polite. A good place to refresh after retail therapy.

Lovely shop with lots of different clothes, perfumes, Christmas gifts lol. We went in the cafe and sandwiches were full of flavour.

What a lovely charming place to visit. Excellent service, lovely coffee and properly made Earl Grey tea with leaves and fresh lemon. Lovely scones, a real pleasure, shame not more cafes like this. The manager, Pan Su Young, is a joy, runs everything very efficiently and has a good team around her too.

I was in Sidmouth today with my friend just for a day out to get art supplies and shopping. It was wet and windy but after a bracing walk across the promenade we were ready for a bite to eat. We popped into Fields which was very busy in the café department! We got a table and ordered our lunch . Waitress service, and our waitress was lovely. My friend has a severe egg allergy but nothing was too much trouble for her and we were both satisfied with light lunches and a cuppa tea. Fairly priced, food came quickly, food was well presented and hot. Pleasurable experience thank you!

Had the most amazing meal, I only ordered a sandwich which was served with the best salad and coleslaw I've had for a long long time, my husband ordered the sausage bap (which he throughly enjoyed) and regretted not ordering the same as I had. I can't reccomend the restaurant enough, the food is first class and the staff are always friendly and extremely helpful. We'll definitely eat there again.

My mother, I and my 5 month old daughter visited again yesterday for lunch and we just wish to comment on the excellent service we receive when eating at the restaurant at Fields in Sidmouth. The staff are polite , attentive and accommodating and Fields is now our regular venue of choice when lunching in sidmouth.

Excellent service, beautiful food served by extremely helpful staff, definitely reccomend a visit and we will certainly.

A lovely old fashioned shopping experience. An enormous range of quality products to peruse. Staff are polite and knowledgeable . One of the rare places to shop where you genuinely feel the customer is important. Sadly there appear to be fewer and fewer of these establishments these days. I would certainly suggest a trip to Sidmouth is not quite complete without a trip to Fields.

Not really coffee shop related, but shopping in store today with my 97 year old Mother in law, who became very tired and needed to sit down quickly. A very nice member of staff hurried off to get a chair for her. I wish I had taken a note of her name but didn’t. Thank you for lovely customer service 😊

Fabulous soup & cream tea, would totally recommend

We used to visit Fields Coffee shop every time we visited Sidmouth. We found it now extraordinarily offensive this past week, (during our recent visit) to place our order with the waiter who immediately asked for payment "UP FRONT" prior to our order being processed. Most unprofessional!

Wow, never expected to find Levi, Superdry or even Joe Brown's in a department store in Sidmouth that doesn't even look like it's there! Walking through the doors into a modern store was a real surprise. Definitely going back here again.

Old fashioned department store. Not many left like this. If you are a 'shopper' you could spend half a day in there!

Love this store! Every time we come down here we always buy lots of household things. The lunch in the cafe was really good too and reasonably priced. Staff are really friendly and helpful. Wish it was in our town!

Please visit this old school (for all the best reasons!) department store and buy something to make sure it flourishes. A touch of New York Macy's in Sidmouth. The window display even makes this old bah humbug midlifer smile😊.

Lovely shop, nice tea in restaurant, just shame about certain staff member on shop floor! Husband was buying Christmas presents with cash - sorry we don't take cash, okay keep goods I will buy somewhere else. We have a cash till downstairs we can escort you down. No thanks. Forget it. Asked reason for no cash - due to Covid. Well maybe management need to wake up a bit because if you listen to the news there is very little chance if catching covid from money, and anyway I had personaly touched all items i was going to buy ! Which were quickly replaced back on the shelf by your staff.

Just had to visit this place that share's my surname. Also discovered it was started by John Field, my father's name! To complete the link, my grandfather was a draper. Lovely café, very clean, friendly staff and quick service - what more could you want?

Good quality clothes good restaurant pleasant staff.

Used to like this store, but what have they done, nigh on impossible to find the gents section now gents and ladies are all mixed together, where does one end and another begin. Chose a nice Levi's shirt only to be told it was a ladies and they had no men's in stock!! Revised my 5 stars a year ago to 3. Disappointed.

Just have to say, the staff on the Clarins, Clinique and Estee Lauder counters are extremely friendly and helpful. Debbie on Clinque advised me on two products last year as well as one this year which have been lovely and helped my troublesome skin. Claire was also helpful on Clarins. Thank you All

I’d actually called in to buy a pair of shoes, but ended up in their coffee shop and enjoyed a fabulous coffee and scrumptious cake, all served with grace and a smile!

I love this café! Very clean. Lunched there on three occasions in August. Sandwiches are freshly made with a tasty salad. Offered loose tea- so rare these days. The staff are very professional and attentive and personable. . On one visit we were advised that there would be a 25 minute wait for sandwiches- it was a rainy day and lots of people had come into the café, however food arrived much sooner- at least this managed expectations and extra hot water was provided for the tea because of the wait. Most hospitality venues in Sidmouth are advertising for staff, a common problem during the pandemic so sometimes waiting a little while does happen. The staff were really hardworking.

As usual, one of my favourite shops in Sidmouth. The staff are always so helpful. A good old fashion service. I gave one less star as the range of ladies clothes wasn't quite to my style, on this occasion. I prefer natural fabrics and a more bohemian design. Good to see a small range of Joe Brown's' clothes.

My second time to Fields over the last month as I was very impressed by my first visit. All three of us opted for the raditional breakfast, even though it was lunch time and it was absolutely fabulous. Really lovely quality bacon and sausage, egg, mushrooms, tomatoes, hash brown, beans and thick crusty granary toast n butter! You must try it! If you love a good chip, then you must try the chunky chips! I had them before and they are the best, so we couldn't resist ordering a portion to share with the breakfast even though we didnt really need them due to the hash browns! Good service with a smile and scrummy food, what more can you ask! Well done Fields!

Everything is just a little bit dated ,however probably we'll suited to the Sidmouth clientele. There are however some areas that do offer a good range of stock such as kitchenware etc.

Lovely well stocked store with great choice and service that all appeals to us and our 30 somethings in the family. The window displays are of West End standard and the Christmas lights beautiful. The 1809 coffee shop and restaurant is a gem too and the bed linen selection is incredible.

Lovely, friendly staff. Quite large independent store in the centre of Sidmouth. Usually has a cafe, but at the moment it's shut. Would recommend.

Very English. Plenty going on, despite Covid. Quite a nice little beach. Usual number of cafes. A reasonable amount of parking. Not too many shops- if you're in to that sort of thing. A short walk inland and you're in to STEEP climbing. Try to use the car parks on the seafront if you are unsteady on your pins.
