Had a fantastic stay here - The perfect base for Our walking trip in the Black Mountains. The staff were lovely and the room was very comfortable and incredibly clean ; really good value for money and parking was also available. We also really enjoyed the authentic Gurkha curry which We had in the restaurant. I will definitely be staying here again.

Fabulous food, charming staff. Plenty of parking spaces. Easy to find, access to days out good. Bedroom and bathroom are a little snug. Beds very comfortable, room clean and tidy. Good value for money!

Friendly efficient service - our first visit and new chef's first day coincidentally. Great recommendations from knowledgable waiter who explained various options on menu. Our meal was delicious and the lamb curry I had was excellent - really good quality tender lamb. Friendly chap who took payment gave us extra chocolate mints. Will be back!

Staying nearby immediately after Christmas our hotel had recommended the New Gurkha Inn as a suitable venue for our family reunion. Arriving on the Tuesday evening just before 6.00 p.m. our party received a warm welcome and were shown to our pre-booked table. Ideally situated within the spacious dining area, its positioning allowed a degree of privacy and we were able to relax in the comfortable seating. From a wide choice of appetising dishes on offer we selected our starters of spring rolls, samosa, onion bhajhi, and cauliflower pakora accompanied by papadoms and various pickles. Main courses included Gurkha curry, Mayalu king prawn, Sunawulo chicken, whilst rice and other side dishes completed the picture. Beverages comprised glasses of red wine (mainly Merlot), Carling lager, Strongbow cider and soft drinks. The group thoroughly enjoyed the meal, which was well prepared, nicely presented, and the young friendly Irish waiter was attentive and professional in providing a very competent service in lovely clean surroundings. Recommended.

This is a lovely restaurant, it's very casual and relaxed, but the food is absolutely wonderful - flavoursome and plentiful. All the staff are nice, the atmosphere's nice, it's just a nice place to be. I've been to better decorated places, and I've had fancier food, but the warm simplicity of this restaurant is very satisfying; you feel like you've had a good evening, and walk out smiling.

Fancied a takeaway whilst on holiday, and the usual go-to is a good curry - so we like to think we know our stuff. This is by far the freshest we’ve ever had, with beautiful flavours and level of spice. We each had a saag (hot) with both lamb, which was so tender, and king prawns, which were meaty and tasty in their own right - bettered by the sauce that was obviously cooked fresh. Service was very friendly, chicken tawa and onion bhaji starters were tasty…and very friendly service just to add the cherry on top. Wish this place was closer to home!!

Wanted to visit this restaurant for a while and managed to book this evening. The wait didn’t disappoint, service was excellent and the food was delicious. The restaurant has an authentic feel, there’s a great choice of traditional Ghurka food and the staff are efficient. Looking forward to the next visit already!

Our first visit to a Nepalese restaurant was very enjoyable! The thali was one of the most delicious asian meals I have every eaten. I opted for a medium spiced meal and it was just perfect and extremely tasty. The staff were very friendly and efficient.

This place is a real find. Simple, comfortable accommodation with a fantastic Nepalese restaurant attached - we ate there both nights. The breakfast is also excellent. The Inn is run by a charming Nepalese couple who are very friendly and welcoming. Talgarth itself is lovely, with the river Ennig running through it.

We arranged an after work meal here for 17 people. What a great evening we had excellent service from start to finish. They agreed to open early to accommodate our work finishing time and provided with super food and service well into the evening. Everyone who attended enjoyed their meals all trying something different. So thanks to the Major and all his team for a great team night out.

We recently spent a week in the Brecon Beacons, and were delighted to see that many Gurkha families were scattered around. Older folk will remember the reputation for extreme bravery these small mountain people earned in WW2. They come from Nepal - 'the roof Of the World'. So we eagerly booked a meal at The New Gurkha Inn - and were not disappointed. Very welcoming and friendly. The food was lovely - and 'subtly' different... Lots of colourful little dishes surrounding a big, medium hot curry that was not at all greasy.

Just returned from a two night stay at The New Gurkha Inn, Talgarth. What a gem of a place, room was very clean, warm & cozy, the restaurant downstairs has a superb large choice of dishes, all cooked fresh with amazing flavours, excellent value for pure quality food too,washed down with Gurka beer!,staff all very, very friendly and helpful, could not do enough for you, continental breakfast with a huge choice to suit everyone, I would highly recommend The New Gurkha Inn, great base to explore the Brecon Beacons and surrounding area's of buety

I made a massive mistake thinking I had booked the Gurkha but was actually next door. The owners were polite but firm and helped me resolve the situation. I can only rate them 10/10 for dealing with an idiot abroad

After a day of cycling in the Brecons we were absolutely starving, such a fabulous restaurant with great friendly staff, a good menu with lots to choose from and reasonably priced, all washed down with a few Gurkha beers - great place, well recommended

We have had many takeaways but I must say this was not a good experience. Very expensive for a takeaway. £1 per poppadom when restaurants only charge 50p and they were not even the best. The mains were very small for the amount paid and...

Ate here a few times and had take away from here many times as it is near. Food is outstanding and the Gurkha staff are fantastically welcoming and accommodating.

The outlaws live in Talgarth, and I've not tried Gurkha nosh before + the relatives have been and recommend the place. We had a range of curries and my wife had a thali - all food was outstanding. I had the Gurkha curry with chicken and I was mightily impressed with the standard of the chicken. So many curry houses sell inferior meat, especially chicken which is more water than anything. The standard of meat was excellent. Service was great. We shall return!

We were on a family trip to the Brecon Beacons, taking in Pen Y Fan and kayaking on the Usk. We had found the Gurkha Inn on Booking.com and had a wonderful Saturday night stopover. The rooms are on the first floor of the inn, the rooms have been decorated to make the most of the old building state. The rooms are comfortable and we got a decent nights sleep. We ate in the in the bar, we had our dog with us so did not use the restaurant area. It was an excellent meal generous portions and cooked with fresh vegetables and marvelous flavours. A real treat of Nepalese style Indian food. The bar was vibrant with a lot of locals enjoying a drink and relax. The bar man was especially helpful, and he was kept busy all evening. Breakfast is a continental style affair and there was more than enough to eat and set ourselves up for the day.One of the reasons we picked this place was they accepted dogs. The venue was accommodating of our pet. For reference there is a charge for the extra house keeping required, which is fair. It is £5 for a small dog and £10 for medium to large.

We had a very enjoyable early evening meal. The starters were lovely and the chicken was beautifully spiced and cooked.The vegan thali was very well received and the two chicken curries had generous amounts of meat and very good sauces.The staff were friendly, helpful and chatty and the bill extremely reasonable.

We stayed here for one night whilst travelling to north wales the room was not en suite but did have a private bathroom the room was warm and the bed comfy there is a tv with freeview tv and free wifi the hosts are friendly and welcoming we slept well as it is very quiet in the morning the continental breakfast was very good 5 choices of cereal, croissants, yogurts,fruit, bread (white,wholemeal,brown),jam,marmalade,nutella,marmite,honey with tea and coffee its a self service which is nice for £64 i thought it was very hood value and would return...the only negative is that dogs are welcome (we had ours with us), and was told on arrival it was £5 for the dog to stay but when i went to pay an hour later when the pub opened it had gone up to £10!!!! They need to inform guests in writing what the cost is for extras not just make it up on the spot.

We stayed here to break up the journey home and were immediately put at ease when we walked into a cosy, friendly bar, where the staff quickly guided us to our comfy, clean room for the night. We had a meal (the Gurkha curry was super-tasty), slept like logs before a fab continental breakfast. What's not to like?!

We visited here for a take away and fully intend to eat in next time.

I have had both sit in and take out from the New Gurkha Inn on a number of occasions now and we are never disappointed. The food is delicious and the staff are the absolute best, always welcoming and friendly, nothing is too much trouble. Highly recommend!

We received a very warm welcome and were impressed with the service straightaway. We were even more impressed with the delicious food. We asked for "not too spicy" and it was just that, even for the Thali. An excellent and well-presented meal. And a lovely atmosphere - we understand they have recently refurbished.

Every time I go here the food is outstanding. Always hot and tastes amazing every time. The stave are wonderful always very grateful for the custom. Highly recommended.

My wife and I were staying in Talgarth for one night. Upon asking our host of a good place for an evening meal the New Gurkha Inn was mentioned along with others. As we both enjoy Indian food we decided to try it out. What a find!

This place is worth every penny, the food is fantastic and genuine, I wanted to go very hot but stepped back a notch for my partners sake, even so it was just yum. The Nepalese owners are exceptionally friendly and welcoming. It was 48 pounds for two people with wine and a good tip so cheap but would pay more.

We ate here as we were visiting the area and fancied trying something different. We all loved the food so much we went back for a second visit before leaving. The food was fantastic, the staff were friendly and the service was excellent. A large selection of curry and Nepalese food that catered for a vegetarian, pescatarian and meat eater.

This is a great pub with great meals, but to try and served on a Sunday is a joke as they decide that the don't want to open or serve the public after 8pm.

Stayed overnight before visiting Hay on Wye. Welcoming arrival, clean comfortable rooms, dog friendly. Excellent full English breakfast for four and Continental breakfast for one. Very friendly and helpful staff.

I booked the hotel and restaurant after a recommendation from someone at work, and because the Inn is dog friendly. It was My boyfriends birthday and the New Gurkha Inn gave him one of his most memorable birthdays ever!

Second visit here. Both times excellent. Extensive vegetarian choices if you order a variety of sides. Friendly attentive staff, reasonable prices & a decent pint too!

Tried this for a meal recently, the decor good and it looked clean.

We were staying locally but as we had never tried Gurka food we thought we would give it a try. The owner was exceptionally helpful and the food was amazing. It’s a shame we live so far away in Devon but should we be anywhere near we would definitely return. All the staff were very helpful and attentive.

Great location, really pleasant with clean rooms. The thing that makes New Gurkha Inn such a good place to stay is the staff. All the staffs are incredibly helpful and generous with their time and advise.

We feel very lucky to live so near to this restaurant. The staff are very welcoming which is a great start to any visit to a restaurant. They have done the best they can with the building they have but you should judge a restaurant on their find and that’s where the Gurkha excels. The food is full of flavour, plenty of choice and I would personally recommend the garlic rice with any of their dishes.

Went for a group meal buffet style and several in our party ended up with the “two bob bits” you can guess that you can guess what this means. I think it was the warmed rice which is always dangerous

We were a group of 17, they were super warm and welcoming. The food was just fabulous, I had a Thali, which was just delicious with all its little dishes. The food came quickly considering there were so many of us. Will be going back thats for sure to try out the other yummy looking food my friends tried.

Always heard good things about the food here although the decor leaves a bit to be desired, don’t let it put you off as it looks very out dated and bit scruffy. Pleasantly surprised with the meal though, Guerka food at its best, really fresh, interesting, tasty, natural flavours with a great choice of dishes. Lovely staff and service. Highly recommend.

Went in for a meal on our way back from a weeks holiday in North Wales. Although we ate well all week this was special. Extremely friendly and our food was beautiful. Definitely recommended.

Took my Mum and we had the chicken Momos and the Thali - vegetable. Both were absolutely delicious, flavourings subtly different. Host was extremely nice, as we were earlier than had booked. Highly recommended.

An old pub which has been converted in to a great restaurant. Staff were welcoming and friendly. Restaurant was very clean. Food was well presented and tasty with some unusual dishes. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal and would recommend it.

The owners are very friendly and couldn’t of been more helpful and welcoming if they tried. The room was clean with a lovely view of Mynydd Troed. The food was exceptional. Very authentic and delicious. I saw a review of the complimentary breakfast on here before visiting and I have to say, I was very surprised by the variety. Cereals, yoghurts, toast, pancakes, flapjacks plus a good selection of juices (and it’s complimentary) what more could you want?It really set us up for our day. We will definitely be coming back as will our little dog who was also very welcomed.

We were lucky enough to get a voucher to have food here for a birthday. We had tasted this resturants foid at a pop up stall they did at a Christmas fair in Brecon, and because we enjoyed that and had the voucher decided to give it a go.

Great Nepalese food we really enjoyed our meals. The chicken momos were delicious as was the thali. The staff were lovely really friendly and very attentive. This is a great restaurant definitely worth a visit. The car park is small but there is a huge free car park just up the road - head towards Llangorse and you’ll see it on your left.

We were recommended to visit this place by local friends and we were so pleased: Great variety of Nepalese as well as more familiar asian curries. We had the Thali and a Gurkha Chicken Curry, both were delicious. Good drinks and great service in a nice atmosphere. Oh, and lovely Gulab Jaman for desert!

We called in as it was recommended by my daughter and her partner. We were very pleased indeed. Good quality fresh food with plenty of flavour served with friendly helpful service. We will certainly be going back again.

The New Inn was refurbished around September last year and we have been meaning to pay a visit since then. Tonight we did just that - and we were more than pleasantly surprised. This really is a cut above in terms of food quality. The service is spot on too - friendly, attentive but not overly so. Please come and make this place the success it richly deserves to be. I'm glad I looked through the restaurant window on New year's day as although normally closed on a Monday they had decided to open. Warm and friendly welcome and ad I watched my choice of beer (from the great local brewer Buster Grant) being poured, I learned that this family run restaurant had been here for about 2 months.

What a place in Talgarth, great food, excellent & friendly service and reasonable priced for this small little town. I’d definitely go back if ever coming back over this way... hoping for a photo taken by our waiter to appear of our popadom bonanza! Thanks for the meal everyone

Came to the Gurkha Inn with 10 friends today. Great warm welcome from the staff on arrival. Promptly sat at a nice table in the restaurant. We ordered a mixture of starters mains and drinks and the food was delicious. The staff are exceptionally friendly and provide great service. Would recommend to anyone visiting Talgarth

Previously a Thai restaurant this is now the new Gurkha Inn and under the management of a Nepalese family. And what a delightful change it is: one is instantly struck by a very warm athmosphere and ambience. The staff is most charming and the food is excellent and generous and reasonably priced. A splendid spot to have at one's doorstep and certainly in line to becoming one's facourite local.

We’ve been eating at the New Inn for several years and were regulars when it was a Thai restaurant. When we discovered that it had new owners and that it was now serving Gurkha cuisine we were excited; we were not disappointed. For those not familiar with Nepalese food, it is a fusion of Indian and Tibetan/Chinese and therefore very different from the Curry we’re used to. Assuming you’re localish, it is different from The Gurkha Corner restaurants in Brecon and Abergavenny, so give it a try, you will get your Momos and the belly pork starter is fabulous. We were the only customers due to it being off-season and the large amount of snow but it meant that the Gentleman running front of house had time to chat without being overbearing. He also knew the ingredients in the food, so feel confident with discussing allergy issues. Another bonus is that this restaurant is in a pup/hotel which means you can get a pint of real ale; Revered James was my choice. All in all a very nice meal

Firstly please ignore the reviews from before Sept 2017 as that is when new owners took over. Done a great job in restore life to a pub which had scene better days. Now with a wonderfully Nepalese curry menu, service was excellent, staff really friendly, and though the menu was a bit smaller than other curry venues the food was great. Well worth a visit - looking for my next visit to Talgarth so we can eat hear again

Under new management this is one of the best places to visit in Wales. Excellent curry, so good we went back again next day. Bright, cheerful, friendly, reasonable prices, - just cant beat it!

We called into the New Gurkha Inn while staying in the village of Talgarth after a long day walking up Pen Y Fan. Being a couple of curry lovers we were keen to try a new twist on the traditional Indian styled curries and we weren’t disappointed with the Nepalese offering. After a friendly greeting we requested to have a couple of well earned drinks in the pub side prior to dining and a table was reserved for us in the restaurant for when we wished to eat. The service was friendly and the food superb, all dishes freshly made and full of spice and flavour with plenty of good quality chicken in, having eaten a lot of Indian and Bangladeshi cuisine I have to say it was one of the nicest curry dishes I have ever tasted. The restaurant also served large bottles of very nice Gurkha beer to accompany the meal which was superb. All in all a very enjoyable evening and it’s a pity we are not local to the area as we would be regular visitors.

Whilst staying at the Old Radnor Barn B&B;, we were recommended the Gurkha New Inn and we were not disappointed. The staff were welcoming and friendly. The restaurant had a good atmosphere too. It’s like Indian food but with a Nepalese take on it. Very impressed.

If you like Indian food, you will love this place- they also do European food but I didn't try that. Very friendly and welcoming staff, newly refurbed and relaunched. Unusual in my experience a pub where you can have proper Indian food, or simply go for a drink. Food cooked to your preference , delicious and not expensive. Try it if you are in the beacons or black mountains - you are unlikely to be disappointed. The food is a welcome change from "standard" Indian cuisine - spicy but delicately flavoured
