Great food, amazing staff and the sun was shining in the garden which has plenty of space to relax. Good size car park and right next to a campsite and train station.

Stopped here after a dog walk through the Ashurst Stroll. Is a dog friendly pub and the garden is AMAZING. Has an amazing green area where you can chose a table and still play with your dog. We didn't have any food, just got a couple of drinks to refresh after the walk and the dog was still enjoying and playing, instead of needing to be on the lid (yes, is a safe area to let the dog out of the lid if your dog is used to it). I really recommend it for anyone who is considering coming with yours 4 paws friends 😍

Not sure what has happened to the two women who were running the bar in the winter 2023/2024. They were on the ball. Came in for a drink and decided to stay for food. Quiet at the time and food and drinks ordered successfully. My partner stood at the bar to order another drink but 4 other people were served infront of him. At this time we gave up, paid and left. One staff member must have been new as he didn't really know what to do. This place needs a strong team leader who can multitask and lead others and whi can determine who was in-line first. 7Our first bad visit. Shame. I miss the two females who ran this place like clockwork.

We were stranded in the New Forest due to a fault on a train door trapping us in a carriage, and one of the workers there offered to give us a free lift to Totton just after 4pm. We had a delicious meal, BUT the reason I’m giving this only 3 stars for food is because there simply aren’t enough vegan/veggie options on the lunch or main menus, which is really disappointing. The delicious hummus & carrot/cucumber dish, was off the kids menu. The only plant burger available, was off the kids menu. And it came with zero toppings, so I couldn’t order that.:( I went for the chickpea salad, which was incredible - it had great flavours and were perfectly portioned for a main meal, but I don’t usually order such salads, so could have missed this gem if there had been other veggie options. I’d love to see a mushroom dish - this is a great option for non-veggies too. We always have a nice time at the New Forest, especially when the weather is lovely so we can play with the ball outside.

Went here with mine and my friend’s family mainly for the large garden and playground for the kids. Unfortunately half the place and garden had been cornered off for a private party including the playground so the kids were less than happy, as they had to watch other kids play on it behind a metal portable fence. Staff at the bar were pushy and rude with no customer skills at all, they simply wanted you out the way as soon as possible. I Don’t mind that for a Wetherspoons in a city, not a country pub. I Wont go again

This place is good if you just need a pint camping, however I would not recommend eating here. Had the worst Thai Green curry I have ever had (if you could even class it as that) which cost £15. Hard cold vegetables and no sauce with basic rice. My partner also had the equivalent of smash and 3 super market sausages for £16. Atmosphere was good and some of the staff service was acceptable, however I think they see it more as a quick turnover and don’t pay attention to you unless you’re giving them money.

Usually my go to place, especially in the summer with the kids… Been as of recent. Don’t rate the food. The Thai curry was questionable. I don’t expect it to be Thai restaurant standard but expected it to be better than it was. The kids sausages were pink inside. The kids chicken gougons you could tell had been deep fried and tasted of oil. Kids pizza had a questionable amount of cheese & another table moaned about the lack of cheese on their cheesey(cheese less) chips. Fruity cider choices have gone down hill. Ordered drinks from the bar. Bar lady didn’t seem to understand me throughout the whole order ( 1 berries and cherries Orchard, apple and raspberry J2O and 2x cheese and onion crisps). Started to question myself - if I even spoke English. Nicole is one of the only ones that has remained the last few years I have been attending. She will give my locals discount and is all round a legend! She deserves 5* but I cannot say the same for anyone else or even the ‘new’ menu.

I recently visited the new Forrest pub in Ashurst and had an exceptional experience. Nf visit for birthday celebrations. Dropped in for a spot of lunch on our bike ride. Very large food area, lots of outdoor seating undercover. Complicated discussion upon arrival regarding dog friendly areas, not very friendly welcome as clearly busy with private function, although only 30% full tables. Told to order at the bar, when we tried to order, we were very rudly told to "get in the queue", not that it stated there was a queing system for ordering. Asuming she was the person in charge, her deminor wasn't very nice. She spoke to us rudly, then was dismissive of the private party organiser when he was trying to sort food options next to us, while we 'waited in the queue' Although ordering separately in succession at the same table number as instructed! Our food came out at completely separate times which didn't suit, as we sat at the same table. Shouldn't of been an issue paying separately and seated together in this economic climate, systems in place to facilitate aren't difficult to organise from personal experience working in hospitality trade myself! Food was quite bland and overpriced for the quality. Our visit was very tainted by the attitude of the staff, felt like we were an inconvenience to them on what was a peak season weekend, so easy to plan ahead for and not even a half full restaurant.! Disappointing visit...

A member of staff broadcast to half the restaurant that their chef refused to cook for me as I have an intolerance to red meat, I ordered prawns and some chips which should have been kept well away from meat regardless. We did not have a good experience here. One of the meals was dripping in grease and not edible. The dahl was in chunks and chewy, clearly frozen and defrosted. The vegetables on the kids meals were not fresh, seemed to be sitting out at least a day. The server was argumentative when we pointed out the issues. We had to argue to get the inedible meal taken off the bill. We won’t be going back here.

Sadly the overall experience was terrible. With the exception of one member of staff all others appeared very unhappy and sharp with customers. Whilst waiting an hour for our food we were freezing cold and when asked about blankets or heaters were told the boiler wasn't working so there was no heating. We would have appreciated being told this on arrival. When our food came one meal went back twice because it was cold and wasn't enjoyable when was heated. The fish was also not enjoyable for 3 of our group as it smelt really unpleasant this may have been the batter but very off-putting all the same. Overall a really disappointing meal.

There are lots of pubs in the New Forest that serve food but the setting here is particularly pretty. It's a large pub with lots of cosy seating inside, leading to a lovely main restaurant overlooking the garden, and then tables in the garden looking out at fields with horses munching grass. What lets it down is the garden is quite scruffy, it had lots of broken plastic (plastic glasses I assume) on the grass. The food menu is expensive but the portions are large, especially the haddock and chips which could feed 2 imo.

Oh well, The Happy Cheese pub nearby were happy to serve us and another couple. Update: We were back in Ashurst 1 year later in July 2023, and decided to give this lovely looking pub, aptly called The New Forest another try..... Delighted to say that on the two evenings we visited, the service from the friendly bar staff was excellent, right up up until the usual closing time of 11pm. We didn't feel pressured to "drink up early" despite the pub being quiet, as expected on midweek evenings.

Average pub. Lovely staff, but significant understanding and training needed when serving 0% alcohol. I specifically asked for a 0% lager for my partner. The only thing resembling this was a "lucky star" pilsner. After a long walk he wanted it as a shandy so the barmaid poured and gave me the rest of the bottle for him to top up his glass with later. When he came to topping up he realised (too late), that it was actually 0.5%. He is an alcoholic in recovery. 10 years sober. If this had been earlier on in his recovery this could have been the difference to him staying sober or not. We brought this up to the staff and we're responded to with an extremely lacking apology. Not impressed that the severity of their mistake wasn't understood on their part. The food was average and overpriced with two items that we wanted unavailable.

The food was amazing to start things off. The fish and chips was amazing, unfortunately one of our plates missed the check on the pass but the red-haired gentleman who was running the food instantly fixed it by bringing the missing tartar and lemon from one. Unfortunately the visit was dampened by two things. The first was a lady behind the bar who clearly didn’t want to be there. She was moaning about her shifts, not having time off and the tasks that she was having to do. This wouldn’t be an issue if it didn’t rub off onto the customers who received the backlash of her frustrations. The second is the pricing of the menu that in honesty shocked me. The fish and chips for how it was cooked and tasted was a very fair price in the £17.95 however when asked if we can add some bread and butter to the meal and the new price becoming 22.95 seemed crazy, I certainly turned down this £5 bread and butter charge. Lovely location and great food (dependent on your price range and who’s working on the day).

While visiting the area, we pre-booked breakfast at Seashells on a Sunday morning. Unfortunately, we encountered an unexpected challenge upon arrival as the restaurant is located on the first floor. Having not noticed this on the website (there’s a note on the contact page which we hadn’t visited), it proved difficult for my husband, who has restricted mobility. While we managed to negotiate the stairs, it wasn’t ideal and unfortunately means we won’t be returning. As for the breakfast itself, the full English was underwhelming and lacked the quality we expected, both in terms of ingredients and presentation. The service was equally disappointing, with the staff seeming unfriendly and disengaged, which added to the negative experience. On a more positive note, the view from the restaurant is lovely, but overall, the experience was not one we would repeat.
