The New Fairlop Oak in Redbridge

I went for breakfast with my mum after a nearby medical appointment. It's very useful that they keep breakfast going until noon and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Lovely poached eggs on toast and a super fresh fruit salad. Orange juice and coffee were also very nice. Highly recommended at the Fulwell Cross end of Barkingside High Street.

Ordered a drink for me and my partner via the Wetherspoons App. The drinks took 20 minutes to arrive, and only after my partner complained to the bar staff. The bar staff said they were short staffed…..not sure how that works on a non busy afternoon with five members of staff in attendance, so a crummy excuse for poor service. They seemed uninterested and didn’t really care about the customer. Very poor all round and will not be returning

So we went into the Gardens area we ordered through an app and waited about 10 minutes for someone to clean up the messy table which was in disgraceful state. So eventualy someone come looked kinda like a Manger and told as no dogs allowed in the the area and Just left did not say anything extra other then no dogs. Could of atleast said no dogs we wont serve you or something along the line So we could of puted are dog in the car with someone and just eat in peace . Could of easily come up and say something extra but after we waited 10 to 15 minutes thinking we getting are food ready the person come back and rudely said oh we refunded you meal as we dont allow dogs and left with a attitude. Its Just rude not Talking it out and refunding without any discusion about the situation other then having attitude to clients who was left confused. Never coming back will Tell mates to avoid.

Not enough staff, and the ones working were stressed and rude. We are regulars and they don't care. They are not interested in the customers.

Tables filthy and food left a lot to be desired - popadom soggy, mash potato only good for filling pot holes, burger dry. Will have to think really carefully before coming back.

Lovely food, very friendly staff. Ordered an 6oz American cheese burger very filling and delicious. Not dry at all. Chips are lovely - flufffy and crispy. The steak was cooked to preference. Lovely experience overall as for pub food.

Manager displayed an unkind demeanor when we were singing at our own table. To our surprise, she abruptly ceased serving us and imposed an arbitrary condition, demanding an apology without any valid cause.

Visited today for the first time for a wake for my Uncle. Recommended by the funeral directors, as we do not know the area well. Everyone had a couple of drinks and light meals, all the staff were lovely, and helpful. Elaine was wonderful, making sure we were all ok, and making sure our table was in the right place, very helpful and friendly. Very reasonably priced, and all of us enjoyed our meals too. Thank you Fairlop Oak, you made a very stressful day much easier for us, truly appreciated.

We were treated disgracefully I felt being disabled I was treated really unfairly I was ignored by an extremely rude bar lady who kept saying wait a minute wait a minute finally a fella stepped in and served me. I was then told I would not be served anything else and had to remove me assistant dog from the garden area. My son and I were so upset it was my birthday as well. The manageress was so rude and embarrassing me in front of other people. Also our table was not cleared and three staff came and told us to leave and take the little dog not one of them took the filled ash tray or glasses and bottles and other left overs on the table. We shall take our money somewhere more upmarket with friendlier staff. Horrible horrible staff the three female employees were zero people skills the manageress is despicable.

Always a good venue for a food and drink stop. We visited twice this weekend due to a sad Family occasion nearby. A comprehensive menu, swift service and delivery to your table. Generous portions and always busy. The app works really well and breakfast on our second visit set us up for our 300 mile journey home. Something odd with the new beer garden screen which necessitated a longer walk to the entrance but I am sure this is work in progress. Highly recommended.

We supposed to meet some friends at the pub for dinner. After the so called “manager” looked at me she decided that I do not look very wealthy and said to the staff to decline to open a tab for us. I ask what is the reason and she said that is a practice to open a tab only for customers with online booking, which is not truth because we have been there many times and we have tab open before without booking. After I said that I will pay by card they ask me what I need and I just ask did they serve a mint tea. After this question I heard them laughing at me and making jokes that I order a tea. I never feel more disrespected from a bar staff and the problem is that with this behaviour they will manage to close down the venue sooner or later. The manager- a lady if I can describe this creature as that was fully supportive to her staff despite the fact that they abuse a customer. Well done guys, continue the same way and after ask your employer why you still work on minimum wages. Even this is too much for you. We will never visit that place again.

We are always there for round of beer after our play, never got a fine for parking but during my latest visit i got fine of 75 pounds. We have been informed by the staff over there that the parking is free if your having food and drinks in the bar. Its shame that we have been provided wrong information about the parking by the staff.

We have been to the pub several times recently. The staff are friendly, sociable and very hard working. Ordered our meal with drinks and coffee. Waited, waited and waited. The barmaid ask my son if I enjoyed the salad (not always available) and he said it hadn't arrived yet. Waited and then my son went and asked (a woman - manager?) said it was coming. It didn't. When it arrived no sausage on mixed grill and lukewarm and the haloumi on my salad was cold and all stuck together (obviously left and not delivered to us),

We have ordered drinks on their app after eating a nice curry and still after 30 min we still waiting. It would be faster just to walk to the bar but not happy that we still having to wait. If the app said their ways a delay I would of gone bar. Nice to know after spending over £70 at the bar when I walked in that the app isn’t worth the time as I’m sure the bar staff must be so so busy doing their nails or washing up. 37 min they turn up. Not happy as I’m here for my daughters 24 😡

I came in 23.00 h pic up friends from party, and left in 30 minutes, with £75 parking penalty. They runing business this way. Avoid.

The Oak used to be my local until I moved house nearly two years ago. I would pay a visit two or three times a week. Sunday's for lunch. I visited last Sunday with friends. I asked the barman (Josh I think) for a bitter shandy as I was driving back to Southend. He offered me Fosters!! He didn't know the difference between lager and bitter. I ordered a vegetarian all day brunch with scrabbled eggs. He came to the table 10 mins later to say the kitchen couldn't make scrabbled egg, I said leave the egg off and replace it with a mushroom or tomato. Another twenty minutes passes,my friends have nearly finished their meals, mine finally arrives with extra bacon. BACON what vegetable is that!!!!!!! Finally spoke with the manager who couldn't understand why I couldn't have scrabbled egg or why my vegetarian brunch had transformed into a standard brunch. I wait, nearly half hour passes before my meal arrives, vegetarian brunch with scrabbled eggs. Obviously all of my friends have finished their meals. The manager offered free desserts and refunded me my brunch. But seriously a barman who doesn't know beer, and a Pub with an extensive vegetarian/vegan menu putting bacon on a veggie brunch. WTF

Parking penalty sullied visit that when I went back to discuss the problem with the lady manager she would not take it up but told us to write to ECP to dispute, so we did not stay for dinner, I just walked out and went to another pub. I have now written to ECP and head office by contact form (3 times) and to the Debt Recovery PLus who raised the penalty from an initial £45 to £195 on a £15.50 meal I had!!! Very disgusted!!!

Nice friendly pub, regular whether spoons, cheap and cheerful! Roy the bartender was quick and efficient at service, and was a friendly and bubbly character. Would recommend this place!

This is a branch of Wetherspoons so the menu is predictable. However, this is a proper pub rather than a conversion so the atmosphere is quite good. Had the 12 oz rump steak of Steak Night. Mine was excellent. However, we were in a group of six and my friend (visiting from Belgium) ordered the same as me, but rare (mine was medium). It came up like a load of uncooked fat and was inedible. We urged him to send it back, but he was too polite to do to. Very disappointing. The rest of us had good meals.

This pub is great! The menu is varied for vegetarians and meat eaters. For vegetarians, I recommend the quinoa salad with halloumi - it’s delicious. The burgers are fantastic for meat eaters. There are many beers and ales on offer as well the usual red and white wines. There are also many fruit juices and the usual alcopops. If you pay for your car parking you get two hour’s worth off your food and drinks bill. Every time I have eaten here I have never had to wait very long and it has always been of a high standard. If you’re looking for a meal out as a couple or drinks with your mates, this is your ideal place.

Fantastic service from Karen who went out of her way to go to the local shop to get mint sauce for my lamb shank. Food and service were really good.

Where to start, hot Saturday day and evening, entered around 20.40 the pub was busy but by no means full (75-80% of tables in use) the beer garden was full though and there had been and was a music festival going on a few miles away.

Stayed 2 hours paid for 90 minutes parking. Time to finish a coke and talk with friends or eat the food that was brought late.

Popped in for a few drinks with my wife a couple of Saturdays back. Staff really friendly and professional, great choice of drink and food at wallet friendly prices! Will definitely visit again when in London/Essex.

We have visited this pub a few times before, we are always in a large group (family). Visited on the 12 May. Wrote our order down (as menu not available on App), took to the bar, lost 20 minutes of our life as the poor girl behind the till did not know where some of the food listings were on the screen. Went through the order twice to ensure we had everything and sat down at the table waiting for our food. A less than helpful waitress arrived, gave us the wrong information about the food (ie chicken burger was actually a beefburger), we asked if we could have some napkins and we were snarled at. Some of the family tucked into their food (5) with 4 remaining dishes to come.. after some 20 minutes we queried where the rest of the food was, the less than helpful Deborah barked at us that it would be on the next "run". I asked if she could check with the kitchen ... she didn't. I finally went to the bar (leaving my food to go cold), only to be told that the order that we checked twice did not go through to the kitchen properly (half the order was missing). We had to place another order for the 4 dishes that had been missed off. The less than helpful waitress Deborah finally came with the rest of the order so the remainder of the family could finish their lunch, she put the food on the table and basically let us sort out who was who's etc. We removed the dirty dishes and put them on a table that needed cleaning as obviously Deborah was not going to have any contact with us. I spoke with the manageress outlining my concerns about the lack of customer service, she assured me she would come and have a chat with me. We left at 3pm and i had not visit from her, good job i didn't hold my breath, as blue really isn't my colour. Come on JD Weatherspoon. Sort out proper customer facing staff and get those behind the food ordering tills, adequate training. Won't be rushing back!!!

The food is quite basic but always arrives hot and is very cheap somewhere to call into when you can’t be bothered to cook.

We visited late afternoon on Saturday 30th March, taking my mother in law for a early dinner. We parked and displayed our disability badge on the dahboard and went in to enjoy our dinner, which was really nice and the staff and service of the standard we would expect. Sadly we have now recieved a parking fine, £45 if paid within 14 days or £75 otherwise as its a "no concessions" car park. We didn't see any signage advising customers of this, but it seems it is there if you look hard enough. As a company I know you do welcome disabled customers and offered facilities to support them once they are in the building such a shame this sentiment cannot be extended into the car park

This is a good looking pub type restaurant and is equally well kept inside. Good range of foods and beers. Very well priced and good friendly service. Food is as you expect it won't get a Michelin star but is more than edible. 4 of us main course and a drink for under £30 has got to be worth a try.

This is my "local" JDW but picture this, walked in around 14.10 on Friday 15th Feb the pub was busy but not full or rammed though the empty tables were full of dirty plates and glasses these had just started to be cleared by a member of staff who had started her shift several hours early.

this is a weathrspoon pub so clean. but this pub gets busy and has a great atmosphere. staff are friendly and want to serve you. food is good and curry nights are busy

Me and my wife have passed this pub umpteenth time and always talked about visiting.. Finally I got there but with one of my friend who lives close nearby.. The pub has a very welcoming feeling from the outside.. Interiors I'd say is standard.. A very popular joint in the area.. We only had ales this time around bit will be back here for food in the future.. Recommended..

I normally come to the Fairlop Oak for a reunion for my old school friends as it’s a quite a big place and always has quiet tables/seats to have food and drinks. We spent 4 hours there this time on a Friday night with plenty of food and drinks but unfortunately I ended up with a £75 parking fine for staying between 8pm and midnight. We will have to reconsider making this our regular meet-up spot due to the parking conditions. Apart from that the staff have always been friendly.

We often use New Fairlop Oak as a meeting place for a family gathering, it’s a good midway choice as our family is split between Essex, Kent, Ipswich and this time family from Canada joined us, good choice of food, good value for money. Unfortunately on our last visit we overstayed in the car park and received a ticket. After explaining our situation to Karen we was delighted when she informed us that she has managed to revoke the ticket. Thank you again Karen and we look forward to seeing you soon.

Lovely beer well kept here, regularly pop in after work to sit and sup and people watch. Thanks to all the staff, especially the lovely Mandy. See you all tomorrow :)

The Fairlop Oak is such an amazing pub, everything about it is unreal, the prices, the drinks and the food, 10/10.

I received a ticket for over staying. I am quite regular and have eaten here dozens of times but on the 7th it was particularly busy. Service was slower than usual and after waiting for a table I ordered my meal. By the time that came and i finished I for the first time ever I had unknowingly overstayed. So my cheap meal and drinks are now £45 more expensive. Do I stop going and start to use pubs that let their customers park for free and stay as long as they want?

Great prices, ok food, friendly staff but dirty tables. Often food is overdone or dried out occasionally you get lucky with a great meal. All in all it is so so. Was particularly disappointed today when the server brought my drinks and then a separate server brought my food. Neither offered to clean my very dirty table covered in crumbs and spill marks

I provided a previous review entitled “Unfortunate” on 23/09/2018, the reply asked if I would like to come in and talk to the management about my issue. I did and am happy to say that the manager was both very professional and understanding. During and after our conversation I thought she treated me with respect and as a valued customer. I am more than happy to put the incident down to an unfortunate misunderstanding due to the way my concerns were recently resolved.

An excellent meal, served quickly and fair prices. Helpful staff - worth another visit. Remember the parking is pay and display, but the fee is redeemable against the food.

On several visits to the Fairlop lately we have found that the whole place seems in need of a top to bottom overhaul and refurbishment. The food is not very appetizing, the apple crumble must have been left in the microwave for a long time as half of was more like a brick than crumble, the eggs are either undercooked or like rubber. It is a shame as it used to be a buzzing place to go to. We have enjoyed many happy time at the Fairlop, it was nearly empty on our last visit and no wonder, if it carries on like this I suppose that this will join the long, long list of pubs that have shut over the last few years. Please sort it out before its too late.

Always enjoyed great staff, food good. Bar member about to enter my order of food when other staff member (short dark haired European female not racial just an identifier) cut across and started ordering for someone who was not at the bar when I was waiting. This happens all the time however, issue was I asked what was going on which was ignored then an exchange transpired including (Bar staff her boy friend and his mates). I spoke to the customer being served and realised he had returned to the bar on an ongoing order. That is all that needed to be said, It wasn’t, a problem, so I left. I strongly advise this member of staff take a customer service course, without my inter-personal skills this could have escalated badly. Potential causing a police incident over absolutely nothing, poor communication. Shame because I have enjoyed excellent service for years, absolutely no complaints other than this.

Haven't visited this pub in a while as its always so busy. We visited on Friday and had the fish and chip meal deal. The food was really very nice but when I looked up at the glass lantern it was filthy and literally large dust particles hanging down. Not a good look and if your sitting underneath a bit of a worry that dust could fall down into your food. I understand that its not an easy place to clean but this really is disgusting. Other than this lovely place with really nice staff. Sorry guys but this needs to be addressed.

We met up as a group of friends for dinner. We had paid at the pay and display. Service was a bit slow, but we were enjoying ourselves, so didn’t think about time etc. Today I have received a parking charge notice, for £45.

Just love going here for a cheap but fulfilling breakfast every now and then - good place to meet pals for a catch-up. A bit of a walk to get a cup of tea or coffee now (they've changed it around).

I never use Trip advisor as a platform for running business down so I won't do that now , the Oak is my local so I often have a couple of pints there when I can the food menu is good and the beer is good at prices we can afford …The only problem is I wish the management would advise parents to keep children away from the bar area ,l was in there the other day and two children were screaming and lying on the floor and that is when they were not running around the tables .I know kids are aloud in pubs but there should be some respect for others .I took my kids in pubs so Iam not being an old grouch , but please think of other people .

After visiting the Fairlop Oak with my daughter and 91 year old mother in law I was horrified to receive a final notice charge of £75 for parking. I didn’t receive an initial letter at all!! There were no clear signs to indicate a parking charge - we even looked for one!! This has really spoilt what had become a regular school holiday treat that both my mother in law and daughter look forward to. I have no problem with paying a charge if I have done wrong but feel like the signs are clearly difficult to see in order to make money from people. What an awful way to treat honest paying customers.

We visited with 2 families. We managed to get a big table but we ordered separately. 1 of the families ordered starters and was surprised when the starters and main course arrived together. When we complained we were told we didn't ask for them to come separately. To be fair, they hadn't, but most restaurants seem to know that you don't serve the soup and main course together. We were then told if they kept the main course hot it would dry out. We agreed and told them to cook a fresh main course.

Went with a friend at her suggestion on Saturday. Firstly the noise level would have exceeded the decibel range of normality. Packed solid with a noisy crowd. The tables are so close you cannot pull your chair out to sit down as they are packed to the maximum. I noticed at some tables, one person eating while three were watching with an ALL NIGHT glass of beer. I was advised it was a 40 minute wait to be served a meal. Not suitable for wheelchairs as the tables were wedged in so tight you have to slide yourself into the seat. Saw the food being served which was enough to make us go elsewhere.

The New Fairlop Oak is fairly average pub, the interior is a bit drab but the exterior is ok. The food I ordered was acceptable although not incredible although it was cheap. The drinks prices are cheap as well.

Despite living over by Stansted i use this pub frequently as i have friends and family in the area. I usually avoid weatherspoons type pubs and opt for a more upmarket establishment. The people who could not see the signs about parking really should not have been in the pub as they were clearly to drunk to read. However, i have always found the staff attentive and friendly. Good food and a great range of drinks. Zero hours contracts should be made unlawful. Weatherspoons pay your staff a living wage

Food and venue ok, however they don't have their own car park, it is a privately run car park that you have to pay to use, and if you go over the time you get a parking charge. We only went over due to slowness of service, but when I phoned the pub they wouldn't help as it "isn't their car park". For that reason alone I wouldn't return.

Absolutely avoid at all costs - This was my local for years however has changed somewhat in recent times. Horrendous penalties for parking and you are only allowed to park for 3 hours, what happens if you overstay? £70 FINE! So what was initially a £350 meal and drinks also comes with an additional £70 parking charge notice so taking my bill to £105. Thanks Fairlop Oak! Received the notice just before Christmas Day to add insult to injury.

Reinstated steak night following last week’s withdrawal of steak from their supplier. New supplier obtained. Excellent steaks tonight, fantastic value for money. Staff so helpful, efficient and friendly. Good pub atmosphere.

We were served this morning by Lauren and Tracy, a few of us wanted to change breakfast items and this was not a problem. The restaurant is clean ,the food was hot and delicious. I would recommend this pub/restaurant to families as children are made to feel welcome , also couples as there are a few booths to have a quiet meal. Overall this establishment is 5* due to the excellent staff

I don’t know what is happening to this establishment today I went with a friend for a beer and a catch up we have used this pub for years without a whiff of any trouble however today my pal managed to get himself barred his crime? He had said to Ami apparently the shift manager to use her eyes when she served two people who had arrived at the bar after him this was said in a jovial manner as opposed to confrontational manner I have known this guy for 50 years and have never known him to say or do anything to upset people quite the opposite,I am an ex pub landlord and can only suggest that Ami needs further education on client service I feel she was out of order on this occasion the whole episode has left a bitter taste as we both enjoy this pub and normally friendly staff.

My uncle held his 75th birthday party at the new fairlop oak they reserved us a private area in the pub and laid on food/buffet. Unfortunately I got there a little too late to eat but everyone at the party was raving about how delicious the food was. The staff were friendly and very accommodating. I took my hundred year old Grandmother for lunch at the Fairlop oak,In the car park there was a man emptying the ticket machine. I asked him if I had to pay as I was displaying a disabled badge, he said no.All fine till I received a £75 ticket in the post this morning I phoned the pub today and was told I'll have to appeal

Hey - firstly you have to appreciate that in a venue that charges very very competitive prices for their drinks that you are without doubt going to get some lesser types of guests. By that I mean the clientele may drink to much or may not have taken time to ensure that they are dressed appropriately for the evening ahead. There will also be those that just want to get the wrong side of drunk. Having said that, the drunk was clear and clean and the service was great. Everyone appeared to make us very welcome and it really is ridiculously cheap in here. In fairness we were in rather early and left about 8.30pm for dinner at the nearby Sharod Indian Restaurant. I have to say this place is defo worth a visit for a cheap night out guys!!! Enjoy!

I booked a table for 9 people including my 10 year old Grandson for a special Birthday Meal for my Husband, when we arrived they hadn't written my booking down so we were put in a corner, the food was ok but the service and rudeness of a waitress left a lot to be desired, waited ages for our meals and my Grandson wanted a desert after his meal , his desert arrived at 9pm and a very rude waitress came and told us all children must leave the premises by 9pm ( we should have been told about this beforehand ) he gulped his desert down and I took him out into the car park to wait for everyone else to finish their meals, she was very rude about it but as we walked past other tables there were still children sitting eating. We had family visiting from Australia so it was supposed to be a very special evening, thanks to the rudeness of the staff it was completely spoilt for us, we have been good customers in the past but we will never set foot in this place again, I am so angry.

Dropped in for a pint with some mates after our first preseason training on the 04/07/2017 and ended up with a £75 parking charge. Totally did not see the pay and display sign. It also never occurred to me that a pub would have one. Boy was I wrong, to the tune of £75!!! Be warned!!!

I drove into the car park to collect my boyfriend dan and his dad peter from the pub on 24th june 2017. I didnt get out the car. I just waited in the car park for them to finish their pints have pee say good bye to everyone inside (they seem to know everyone everywhere) and come out. I was in the car park for 21 minutes. Not parked just sitting there waiting listening to magic FM. I couldnt stop at the round about or along fencepiece road safely.£75 parking charge. unreal.

This was my fourth visit to this pub just off my local high street and I've found that each time I have visited, staff members are exceptionally friendly and accommodating. You feel welcomed and your choices of food and drinks are explained in detail when asked. For e.g. food dietary info and free Americano coffee refills, just to name a couple.I don't usually write reviews for places, however as you don't witness great customer service too often these days (especially not from a whole team in one establishment), I felt compelled to do so. They really do offer service with a smile, and it makes a difference!Wetherspoon, if you're looking at this, I suggest you reward the team at this pub for their amazing work :)Dane

I sat down with my boyfriend on a table bench in the outside area. We had just ordered our food and when my boyfriend got up to go to the toilet, two ladies sat down on my table and lit their cigarettes. I explained to them that this table was occupied and then he was going to return. I was very polite, more so actually because I found it strange that two people would just sit down on a table without asking if the seats were free. All I said was 'sorry someone is sitting there' and i got a blank stare for a few seconds and then the woman shouted really loudly 'yeah but I work here' and rolled her eyes. I was so shocked. Firstly, i didn't understand why it is acceptable for staff to come and just sit on a customers table, light up a cigarette, without even having the courtesy to ask them if its okay. I would have happily have said yes if she said she just wanted to sit down for 5 mins and there was nowhere else to sit. I didn't want a confrontation and to make a big scene as I was already embarrassed by the way she spoke to me in front of the whole garden. I thought I would wait for my boyfriend to return and hopefully they would have the decency to get up and give him his seat back. A table became free within the next few minutes and without even saying anything to me, they got up and moved to a table two benches down. No sorry, no thanks for letting me sit there, nothing. I'm just appalled. I actually thought maybe it was just another customer messing around. I couldn't believe that she actually worked there but then I saw her behind the bar later, obviously taking her time before she took my drinks order. Oh and to top it all off, I got a parking fine. I used to come to fairlop oak all the time. The staff, the service, everything has just gone down hill now. Such a shame. The pub is in a good location and we used to look forward to coming there. Won't be returning there again.

Went at 5.30 in evening, food reflected late in the day - not fresh at all. Saying that, service was great, just let down by food!Had fish & chips - my adult fish portion was only slightly bigger than child's meal fish portion - which was disappointing. Other members of party also thought food was a little old...

Nothing special. You know what you are getting when you order your meal at a Wetherspoon and this was no different. Standard pub fair which was cooked correctly and sevice was okay. Nothing outside of the ordinary. We go to these places knowing we will get what we get.

18/05/17 14:59 went order another round. The 2 staff were serving and I was next to be served. 2 more people arrived at the bar was shocked when they both got served and I got ignored. Once one of the staff were free, she started talking to someone ignoring me. 6 mins passed when I decided enough was enough and went to another pub. The 2 people who were served before me seemed like regulars and they started serving them straight away, It's a shame that every other JD Witherspoons I visit are excellent and this one let the great name down. I do sometimes wonder being Asian has its disadvantages @customer service please review the CCTV it will make good viewing

There's a large menu, cheap food & drinks, the service is very fast, and our food was delicious! We'll definitely be coming back our next time in Ilford.

We found that the food was quick but not very good or nice. We did hear a few other tables also commenting on how bad the food was as well. Staff were friendly. Toilets needed a really good clean and repair as some doors locked some never parts of the wall trim hanging off. So overall not a great pub for cleanliness.
