The New Crown Inn in South Tyneside

A lovely afternoon. Food was really nice, we tried the burgers from the newly launched menu. The chicken Katsu burger was really nice. All food was piping hot and came within the timescale stated. Lucy and the team were so nice, nothing was too much trouble, thank you 🙂

For the 2nd time in the last 10 days we visited the New Crown for an evening meal, encouraged by your 30% off vouchers. As last week the meals wete excellent. I had Rump Steak and my wife had Hunters Chicken.

Our go to place for a relaxing meal.

We had a great afternoon but outside was icy and difficult to manoeuvre when we came in and when I left I slipped on the ice outside and hit my head

Very tasty reasonably priced food,with plenty vegan /vegetarian options. Our server Lucy was really friendly and attentive.

Lovely pub. Staff always very welcoming. Lots of seating. Didn’t eat on this visit but the food is always great.

Needed gluten free food for two of our group. The new crown has a gf menu with lots of choices. All 5 meals were good. When I'm next in shields this will be my go to venue to eat.

The meal was appalling. It wasn't busy but we waited 40 minutes to get a cold meal. Mushrooms missing off the order and the steak was extremely small. No butter offered for the jacket potato. No one came to ask if all was OK and as it was already cold we weren't going to the bar to ask for the mushrooms. Being a grill you can't exactly microwave it to warm it! Very disappointed and won't be returning UPDATE following response asking me to contact them, I have emailed the new crown hotel but not heard anything back from them

We came for the dogs breakfast with santa event. It was very well put together, the staff are so friendly and the dogs have had loads of fun and it is great value for money. Will definitely return next year and would highly recommend

We popped into the New Crown for breakfast this morning very tasty 😋. The service with a smile that we received from Kaitlin was second to none. So if you want a tasty breakfast with great service the New Crown is well worth a visit 👍

Enjoyed a lovely lunch. Lucy did a cracking job, especially given that the pub was so busy. She managed our expectations about the wait for food, and managed to get our food out quicker than expected.

Booked with a special offer but would have definitely been happy at full price nice and spacious food very well cooked to everyones own preference and plentiful excellent service warm friendly atmosphere no rushing was first time but will definitely come back very family friendly

We had our organisations Halloween party there, and everything was fab…the buffet was served at the exact time we asked, and it came out hot and fresh! Meg was very helpful and nothing was too much trouble….We will definitely be booking future social events here👍

Have had Sunday Dinner at the New Crown, I would strongly recommend it. We was served by Lucy who makes you very welcome. All the staff are very friendly and polite. The New Crown also does very good meals during the week. If you haven't tried it yet, then why not try it today you won't be disappointed.

Came for the psychic fair, but it wasn't very good

Been today for lunch and the food was delicious.. The atmosphere was very relaxed with nice mellow music on in the background and Grace who served us was very polite and thoughtful and always made sure our needs were met.. I will definitely be coming back in the near future as I'm very satisfied with the experience. 😊👍

My husband and I visited last evening with our son and daughter in law and our two year old granddaughter. We had two steaks ( surf and turf) which we upgraded to sirloin, a margarita pizza, a child’s margarita and a spicy burger. Services was very swift and food was excellent. Sometimes steak in a pub is a gamble but both steaks were cooked perfectly ( rare as we requested) and perfectly seasoned. They had great flavour and were juicy, not dry. All the accompaniments were lovely and presentation was excellent too. We also had desserts, which were lovely. The chocolate brownie sundae and banoffee tart looked good, little one had a lovely ice cream, beautifully presented so she loved having a real dessert too and I loved the apple crumble which was fantastic! I would also like to add that the staff were fantastic! They were so friendly and nothing was a problem. Our granddaughter loved chatting to them and showing off her toys. They made time for her which was lovely. We really enjoyed ourselves and will definitely go again, it’s a family favourite now!

Went for tea with my friends, food was lovely and service was fast. Staff there were all friendly I was served food by jess and she seemed very hardworking and always had a smile on her face overall great experience! would come again!

We’ve been coming to The New Crown for a while now and the service and atmosphere is second to none. Lucie usually serves us, a lovely girl who always has a smile on her face and who is always up for a laugh.

Went for dinner as a family. Food was very nice and steak cooked perfectly when asked for rare. We had Lucy serve us for most of the evening and she was lovely and attentive. Other staff members didn't seem too happy to be there and were quite abrupt when we said we'd booked but they had so recollection of this. Ultimately the food was great so we will come back and hopefully be served by Lucy again!

Great place, very busy due to great north run but service was excellent

Me and my wife got a meal today my wife git a jacket potato cheese and beans which was a joke sprinkle cheese and exactly counted no more then 8 beans

The food was very tasty and good and hot, waiting time was good and the service very friendly. Price very good as we used the vouchers. No complaints. The Where's Wally table is most amusing.

Attended the Dance Party on Saturday 17th August and have to say the team done amazing, in this current climate it was great that the pub put this whole afternoon on for free, there was face painting, bouncy castle, games, pizza making, dressed up characters and great prizes! I brought my 3 year old granddaughter and 15 year old disabled great-nephew, the entertainment team were fab with both, aswell as all the other kids! A massive well done to Grace and her team, u’s definitely pulled it out the bag

The children's party's are just the best at The New Crown, great staff go above and beyond, excellent entertainment, children are entertained from start to finish, Thank You to all involved, it was a great day 🥳

Attended a family birthday celebration last night. Booked tables in advance with ease, ordered food which was all lovely and very reasonably priced. Staff very polite and the pub had a great atmosphere. Special thanks to Meg for arranging this who was helpful as always, she checked to see that everyone was enjoying themselves and had what we needed etc 😊

Great atmosphere attention to detail and super friendly staff who are so helpful and nothing is a problem to them entertained our little one whilst waiting for his meal fabulous views and staff making this a pleasure experience and value for money with panoramic views will be back soon

I found the QR code website ‘order at table’ hopeless. I went to the bar and ordered there instead, as I was unable to view my basket and tried again; but there was just a total with double the items! It didn’t work with one of the bar staff trying - so our food was ordered at the till. Their card reader wouldn’t read my card in my Apple Wallet, so I used my debit card. We got our food relatively quickly. The steak was surprisingly good and the salad okay. The Jam Rolly Poly is bit small for £4.99, but hits the spot! Coffee is not bad - but the black is awful: like dishwater! Ladies toilets are terrible - no ventilation: the floor is damp with condensation. The sink overflows are all dirty with black mould. The main toilet door desperately needs painting. The toilet seats are all loose! Cigarette bins outside are over flowing and there’s broken glass in the car park…

Really enjoyed the Fish and Chips. Service and staff were great. We’re looking forward to coming back.

It’s ok. Never changed over the years . Hand dryers don’t work in the Gents Toilets . Not great.

Me and my family went in on Sunday to watch the England game. My mam was with us who isn't great on her feet. I asked staff if they had and spare seats, not only did they bring seats but they brought a table out so 8 of us all got to sit. Can't thank you enough for your hospitality especially as you were all so busy. Thanks again James.

The online order/menu was difficult to use because the search function was bugged and disappearing when clicked, and 3-4 meals we wanted weren't available (that may have been because they have a reduced menu on a Sunday as they do a Sunday roast, but that was unclear at the time). The food itself was very nice, worth the money. The desserts especially were very nice. The staff were polite if not a little distracted. Designated drivers beware, £3.70 for a soft drink is a little steep.

Inflated prices and shrinking portions. Disappointed that one of our favourite places to eat has decided to increase prices and shrink portions. Had a "light bite" and although I don't eat much I was taken aback by how much the portions had shrunk and the price had increased. The daily offers no long exist on the menu either.

Booked a table prior to our visit as there were 7 of us, including a 3 year old. Menu has all the classics for pub grub. I wasn't particularly hungry so ordered from the children's menu which was good as I hate food waste. All the meals looked very appetizing. My meal I'd asked for fries but they brought chips (probably hubby's,fault) When my daughter mentioned it to the very pleasant waitress she immediately went and brought fries The chips were shared between the men so they were happy. Lovely relaxing family meal , will certainly visit again when visiting South Shields

Went in with a friend for a spot of dinner, food was delicious and very well priced for the large portion size we got, good atmosphere and attentive service, I’m fussy and asked for a few things to be removed before cooking and it was all spot on. Quick service, I expected to wait longer than we did.

Lucy was very attentive with our order and checked several times on if the food was acceptable. She never stopped the whole time we were in the pub. We are here 3 or 4 times per week and all staff are always great.

Staff very friendly and good with the kids. Love that dogs are allowed in. Put candles in my sons dessert and sang happy birthday to him. He was delighted!!!!!

Meg was our server and she was fab, she was so friendly and helpful from the minute we walked in. We had the chicken kebab and it was gorgeous.

I ordered the lasagne which was lovely, but unfortunately the salad was horrible + the garlic bread was burnt. So overall I would not recommend this establishment although on a positive the staff were lovely.

This was the first time I have ordered food here, I ordered hunters chicken the chicken was hard or was overcooked, the rocket was slimy, chips were fine. I would never order food or recommend food from here again. My friend ordered lasagne her salad was absolutely disgusting slimy and her garlic bread was burnt to a crisp. 2 very disappointed customers 😡

I had my 60th birthday here. The food was excellent, lots of it and beautifully arranged. The staff were so friendly and helpful. I would strongly recommend this place for any occasion.

Lucy is a fab member of staff and very friendly and attentive as is the lovely lad with his hair in a pony tail who is THE BEST table cleaner and glass collector in the business. The New Crown has turned in to a really popular pub with a great atmosphere and lovely staff.
