The New Crown Inn in South Tyneside

I booked the function room for my daughters 21st birthday. Booking was easy and staff couldn't of been anymore helpful. We payed for the hire of the room and did our own catering.They gave me advice at every stage of organizing. We were able to have the full day to set up the room for the night wich was amazing, Meg the manager helped with the entire room and nothing was an issue. The night itself went without any issues and the bar staff were friendly and extremely helpful if I needed anything ( plates, spoons etc). We went down the next morning to clear the last of the party bits away and Meg and her staff had already done it for us. I would highly recommend booking The New Crown function room to anyone. Sunday lunch...very disappointed. Tinned mushy red Cabbage, deep fried frozen roast potatoes, Bland rubbery beef, thin gravy ...was not nice at all. Over priced

Amazing pub lunch on a gloomy Monday lunch time. Family of 3. Very friendly welcome from our server Kay. I ordered a steak with was cooked absolutely perfectly and seasoned with perfection. The wife had tikka masala which smelled delicious! Our chef was a man called Nick and we will absolutely be returning again.

Just popped in for a drink .it was early in the afternoon. Not a lot of people around but the meals looked ok

Been a while since we ate out on a school night, was worth the wait, Lovely meals, orders taken and served by Lucy and Kay. Nice to see friendly face's serving us all. Food was spot on, all promptly served at the table, especially the delicious sweets. Nice couple of drinks to wash the food down.

Absolutely lovely, Lucy and Kay were amazing. Lots of places to sit inside and out. Food brought to the table, and very quick service (Lucy and Kay were fast with the food and is very nice). Food was amazing and would recommend the chocolate brownies for desert. Very clean and very spacious. Can get crowed on weekends and summers but people are friendly. Will be coming again 10/10

Visited a few days ago for food and some drinks. Everything was brilliant and Caitlain took great care of us and made sure we had everything we needed. Definitely worth a visit!

Always a warm welcome and food of the best quality. Nothing is ever problem. Both my grandchildren request to come here.

A lovely afternoon. Food was really nice, we tried the burgers from the newly launched menu. The chicken Katsu burger was really nice. All food was piping hot and came within the timescale stated. Lucy and the team were so nice, nothing was too much trouble, thank you 🙂

For the 2nd time in the last 10 days we visited the New Crown for an evening meal, encouraged by your 30% off vouchers. As last week the meals wete excellent. I had Rump Steak and my wife had Hunters Chicken.

Me and my friend popped in yest 2/2/25. We got great customer service from lasses on the till Despite some things going wrong in kitchen, they coped really well and carried on with a smile and friendly banter. We had Cappuccino with sticky pud and custard was delicious 😋 a good experience.

Second time in here. It's dog friendly and the first visit it was all a positive. Food and staff were great. Sunday though. We took her mam and dad there for her birthday. They had no mixed grill. Even though it was only 1pm. Had to have the chicken one. This was rubbish. Most of it went to either the kids or the dog. Was supposed to get chips with it. They were fries, no matter what the staff called them. They looked like the dreggs out of the pan. When I complained, the lady staff member had a shitty attitude. Order dessert, which never arrived and forgot about us.

Great to support local pubs, usually only use during the summer months to use outside seats, Saturday night at start of year and busy, great service and food

I ordered mixed grill, when it arrived the fried egg was burned brown with dry yolk. The waitress immediately brought another. This was just the start. The steak was like toughened rubber, the gammon was full of gristle and inedible and the chicken cold. The 3 onion rings were stuck together overcooked and dry. Sausage Luke warm as was the chips. The very pleasant waitress apologised and gave me a full refund. I have no gripe with this lady she was excellent, but the chef, well he must be blind to send this to a customer. He needs re training in my view. I have eaten at the New Crown before, and it was excellent. Different chef maybe.

Came with a family of 8 for a birthday gathering. Food was amazing. Service was fantastic. Couldn’t fault it. Will be visiting again soon.

We had a great afternoon but outside was icy and difficult to manoeuvre when we came in and when I left I slipped on the ice outside and hit my head

Lovely pub. Staff always very welcoming. Lots of seating. Didn’t eat on this visit but the food is always great.

Needed gluten free food for two of our group. The new crown has a gf menu with lots of choices. All 5 meals were good. When I'm next in shields this will be my go to venue to eat.

The meal was appalling. It wasn't busy but we waited 40 minutes to get a cold meal. Mushrooms missing off the order and the steak was extremely small. No butter offered for the jacket potato. No one came to ask if all was OK and as it was already cold we weren't going to the bar to ask for the mushrooms. Being a grill you can't exactly microwave it to warm it! Very disappointed and won't be returning UPDATE following response asking me to contact them, I have emailed the new crown hotel but not heard anything back from them

We came for the dogs breakfast with santa event. It was very well put together, the staff are so friendly and the dogs have had loads of fun and it is great value for money. Will definitely return next year and would highly recommend

Enjoyed a lovely lunch. Lucy did a cracking job, especially given that the pub was so busy. She managed our expectations about the wait for food, and managed to get our food out quicker than expected.

We had our organisations Halloween party there, and everything was fab…the buffet was served at the exact time we asked, and it came out hot and fresh! Meg was very helpful and nothing was too much trouble….We will definitely be booking future social events here👍

Have had Sunday Dinner at the New Crown, I would strongly recommend it. We was served by Lucy who makes you very welcome. All the staff are very friendly and polite. The New Crown also does very good meals during the week. If you haven't tried it yet, then why not try it today you won't be disappointed.

Came for the psychic fair, but it wasn't very good

Been today for lunch and the food was delicious.. The atmosphere was very relaxed with nice mellow music on in the background and Grace who served us was very polite and thoughtful and always made sure our needs were met.. I will definitely be coming back in the near future as I'm very satisfied with the experience. 😊👍

My husband and I visited last evening with our son and daughter in law and our two year old granddaughter. We had two steaks ( surf and turf) which we upgraded to sirloin, a margarita pizza, a child’s margarita and a spicy burger. Services was very swift and food was excellent. Sometimes steak in a pub is a gamble but both steaks were cooked perfectly ( rare as we requested) and perfectly seasoned. They had great flavour and were juicy, not dry. All the accompaniments were lovely and presentation was excellent too. We also had desserts, which were lovely. The chocolate brownie sundae and banoffee tart looked good, little one had a lovely ice cream, beautifully presented so she loved having a real dessert too and I loved the apple crumble which was fantastic! I would also like to add that the staff were fantastic! They were so friendly and nothing was a problem. Our granddaughter loved chatting to them and showing off her toys. They made time for her which was lovely. We really enjoyed ourselves and will definitely go again, it’s a family favourite now!

Went for dinner as a family. Food was very nice and steak cooked perfectly when asked for rare. We had Lucy serve us for most of the evening and she was lovely and attentive. Other staff members didn't seem too happy to be there and were quite abrupt when we said we'd booked but they had so recollection of this. Ultimately the food was great so we will come back and hopefully be served by Lucy again!

We’ve been coming to The New Crown for a while now and the service and atmosphere is second to none. Lucie usually serves us, a lovely girl who always has a smile on her face and who is always up for a laugh.

Attended the Dance Party on Saturday 17th August and have to say the team done amazing, in this current climate it was great that the pub put this whole afternoon on for free, there was face painting, bouncy castle, games, pizza making, dressed up characters and great prizes! I brought my 3 year old granddaughter and 15 year old disabled great-nephew, the entertainment team were fab with both, aswell as all the other kids! A massive well done to Grace and her team, u’s definitely pulled it out the bag

Attended a family birthday celebration last night. Booked tables in advance with ease, ordered food which was all lovely and very reasonably priced. Staff very polite and the pub had a great atmosphere. Special thanks to Meg for arranging this who was helpful as always, she checked to see that everyone was enjoying themselves and had what we needed etc 😊

I found the QR code website ‘order at table’ hopeless. I went to the bar and ordered there instead, as I was unable to view my basket and tried again; but there was just a total with double the items! It didn’t work with one of the bar staff trying - so our food was ordered at the till. Their card reader wouldn’t read my card in my Apple Wallet, so I used my debit card. We got our food relatively quickly. The steak was surprisingly good and the salad okay. The Jam Rolly Poly is bit small for £4.99, but hits the spot! Coffee is not bad - but the black is awful: like dishwater! Ladies toilets are terrible - no ventilation: the floor is damp with condensation. The sink overflows are all dirty with black mould. The main toilet door desperately needs painting. The toilet seats are all loose! Cigarette bins outside are over flowing and there’s broken glass in the car park…

It’s ok. Never changed over the years . Hand dryers don’t work in the Gents Toilets . Not great.
