Excellent service and Excellent food

I was at a retirement / 60th birthday party. The room was great as was the DJ, the food especially the curry was superb better than what I ate in Ocean Road during the week. Bar staff really nice too x

Great place for a Sunday carvery, nice quality meal at a reasonable price.

Food and surroundings were lovely. The staff were brilliant, as soon as our glasses were empty they asked us if we would like another drink. The only down side was that there was a TV with MTV on.

Had lunch here with my sister. We went to look around at the function room, and I was impressed by the space and setup. We stayed for a lovely lunch, she had lasagne, which she enjoyed, I had carbonara, lovely creamy sauce, we shared a cheese garlic bread and a bottle of pinot grigio. A great Friday lunch.

Staff really friendly been here before and on both occasions service and quality of food has been excellent, all six in the party all thought the same. Will be back !

Went for Sunday lunch, never again everything was cold could not eat the meat was to tough waste of money.

It was very cold in the upstairs room. Although it was a very cold snap in January at the time the heating was probably put on too late. Which in some ways for the venue is understandable but for most people attending especially the older people it was uncomfortable.

Used this venue for a wake. Couldn’t fault the venue or the organisation of the event. Lisa was amazing and accommodated our every need. Food was fine and service good. Thanks.

Come here with friends to watch the football as one of few venues in the area. Drinks reasonable and serves purpose

New years eve 2023 ticket night with Rivelino band. Absolutely superb. The atmosphere the staff and the food were amazing from start to finish. Best night ever.

Amazing. We had our wedding on 29/12/23. Magical from start to finish. The staff went above and beyond nothing was too much for them. The DJ Andy was exceptional, with fantastic music which had everyone up on the dance floor. The food was outstanding. Our room looked magnificent. We just thank Lisa and all the staff for making our day amazing .

We were in the hall upstairs for a meeting and the noise from the party downstairs was horrendous, it was very cold and the lights kept flashing. Needs updating!

Me and my family visited for Sunday lunch. £12 seemed like the higher price band for a carvery but I’d heard good things and I know competition amongst the sunday lunch locations is strong. This won’t win any prizes. If you’re desperate I’d put this in the same category as the likes of Toby carvery, unimpressive and bland across the board. Quantity over quality. The meat was the highlight, what there was of it, if you choose the large you get a choice of two meats, I opted for chicken and beef, both delicious. The guy carving the beef looked like he had the weight of the world on his shoulders and it came across in abundance, he constantly repositioned the knife in order to obtain the SMALLEST sliver of beef, and put two slices onto my place, I mean wafer thin. The vegetables were alright, I mean they’re vegetables takes a lot to get them wrong for a decent chef. Gravy was packed full of flavour. The Yorkshire puddings… this is where it treads amongst the unacceptable, large in size, drier than Frankie Boyles humour and they had ZERO taste. They even had the structural capacity to fend off the gravies abilities to moisten and retained their sand like texture. Yorkshires are a highlight of a dinner, left till last as a delicious finisher to what should be a great Sunday dinner. It was not. Hangover bait is what it screams.

We visited on 16th July 2023 for the Sunday carvery. It was extremely disappointing. Credit where it's due, the meat was very well cooked. I had beef, my partner had lamb. When it came to the veg etc this is where it all went south. Everything was lukewarm, had it been later in the day I'd be more understanding but we arrived at 12:15 and were served immediately. The gravy was tepid and lumpy as if it had been prepared the previous day and been reheated. This place is at the slightly more expensive end of the local Sunday lunch market and we expected better.

Attended a Volunteer Event, where volunteers in Tyne and Wear were given thanks and appreciation for the work they do. Really good event. 👍 Meal was provided as a thank you for the time given.

Granddaughter's 7th birthday party held here In the large ground floor room. Loads of room for the bouncy castle, disco and dancing and face painting. Plenty tables for parents and guests. Bar staff were great and very helpful. Must admit it brought back many happy memories of Saturday nights in the 70's at the Hedworth.

Our first time eating out on Christmas Day and it was such a lovely experience. The food was delicious and staff were lovely. Plenty of friendly, relaxed staff so no waiting around for anything amd the children in the party were well looked after with games and a present. Decorations were great and table was lovely. Thanks to all at Hedworth Hall.

Been tonight for a works Christmas do. So unbelievably poor. So much worse than I expected. So many tables crammed into the room I felt like I was in prison. Still in shock that I actually had to pay for the privilege.

so after hearing good reviews about this place we decided to come down. The meat, Yorkshire and gravy were lovely and warm and were of good quality , but the mash and vegetables were stone cold and not of good quality. we looked back at the carvery and realised half the carvery wasn’t working hence the cold vegetables. Never in my life have I been to a carvery where half of it is broken and they still continue to happily serve cold food from it. surely if your carvery is broken you would just serve hot food from the kitchen until it is fixed? Having paid £25 for our drinks and carvery (2 people) and not eating most of it, I thought it was only fair to make a complaint (as I like to give the opportunity for a company to resolve matters). The waitress came to collect our plates and I asked if it was possible if I could speak to someone to make a complaint. She then brought her manager over, who me and my partner explained the situation to. The manager was quite defensive and did say the food was warm, to which we disagreed completely, so I asked for a full refund, to which he said he could only offer half a refund. He came back and chucked £10 on the table and walked off. No apology or anything! I normally don’t like to write bad reviews, as I know bad reviews can massively affect a business! But in this case I feel like I must, as overall most of the food and the whole service was absolutely shocking! I believe this business clearly does not care to stay open. I honestly just can’t believe they are still letting people walk in and pay full price for a carvery knowing fine well that it isn’t working properly . unbelievable! Will not be returning ever again!

I got served a Jura single malt in a plastic shot glass... seriously!! If you learned how to educate your staff it would be a more pleasant experience for your customers... You could do better if you put more effort in..

What a fabulous meal. We had a party of 40 and the staff were amazing the Carvery was melt in your mouth. Lisa and staff could not have done anymore to accommodate us and were so attentive . I cannot believe that it's only £5.95 for a top notch meal. I would highly recommend Hedworth Hall for any function you require. Its beautiful inside and has been recently refurbished. Would be fabulous for weddings, birthdays etc. what is even more amazing is the prices stay the same no matter if its mothers day, Valentine’s day or Easter or any other special day in the Calendar! Make sure you pop in it is open daily and Sunday Carvery is from 11.30 till 4pm

Went for a wedding reception. Great experience, staff couldn't be more helpful if they tried. Even put on arts and crafts for kids to keep them busy.

Well what can I say. Had a few beers, watched football, asked son to pick us up and his car is attacked in the car park. Won't be back. Utter dross.

At this venue for a surprise birthday party. It was the upstairs room used for the party, not accessible for wheelchairs or anyone who struggles with stairs, there are a lot.Lovely size room, ample room, good size dance floor. Bar staff pleasant, good selection of alcoholic drinks. Typical soft drinks on offer.

Went for Sunday lunch with the family, as well as having a 4 & a 2 year old with us, it wasn’t a good experience!…I’m well aware of the “Ridiculous restrictions” this restaurant as well as others are having to abide by but this was not something I would consider doing again, and certainly not here!?…Firstly, after arriving and being shown to our seats, my brother’s dinner was promptly placed in front of him, without even been asked if he/us were even ready for it after only just walking into the place? We weren’t, as we hadn’t even been asked if we wanted any drinks first? Secondly, after a “discussion” about having the meal taken away we all got our drinks….When it was time for our lunch, our orders came promptly enough, lukewarm, & minus gravy & cutlery, the young girl serving (not her fault bless her) I blame the establishment for lack of obvious training & direction, looked a little flustered as we then had to ask for the missing things?….It was just a constant stream of “cock ups” to be fair, and what I couldn’t quite get my head around was after having to adhere to all these crazy rules, (masks on etc!) I then watched 2 chefs that were standing carving the meat, sorting veg out etc, standing no more than a foot away (without masks) so breathing all over the food?? I used to come to this place pretty regular, but it’s highly unlikely I’d visit again….food not the best! Service even worse!

An alright venue for special gatherings, but it feels rather outdated compared to many other wedding venue areas across the region and country. The pricing for food and drink is also rather inflated and expensive.

I attended 18th birthday party of my friend. It was fabulous. The venue, staff and food are amazing. Recommended for any occasion.

My new wife and I just had the most amazing wedding day, starting from 2pm til midnight and the place was amazing, Lisa had planned everything to the smallest detail, the room was beyond lush!! The staff were fantastic and never stopped all day and night even when we had the room packed to the rafters. They accommodated our wedding band and the day went flawlessly, we couldn't recommend this venue any higher, thank you again Lisa and all of your staff, Chris + Sharon Ridley.

Went for a 50th birthday party & the staff & venue were both good. Car park was too small for the size of the building though.

Nice place to eat and drink, nice decor.. lovely atmosphere, we Put on an event with work.. Huge hall, nice Curry buffet, but Only curry & rice in their "Buffet", so make sure you check also if you book the hall, tell them to put out extra seating & tables

Go for live football and the Sunday lunch

As the title says the food was gorgeous and so well priced. We went at 4 pm and paid 3.95 each. Every meal was hot and portion size great. Could not fault a thing. I’ll definitely be back. Sorry we started eating before I remembered to take a photo!

£4,50 a pint, how can they justify that.

I visited with a party of family and friends for Sunday lunch last month. Family eat here regularly, saying how lovely the home cooked roasts are - they weren’t wrong! Juicy carvery meat (I chose the pork), piles of fresh veg, huge Yorkshire puddings and thick gravy - heaven! It’s been a long time since I cleared my plate like that. I’ll be back :-)

Most staff are friendly enough, bit pricy

Great time staff were very professional for the Sunderland uni law ball. Music was a bit naff but overall a good event.

My fiance and I booked out a function room for our engagement party in May 2019. The manager was quite helpful initially with planning etc. Unfortunately things started going down hill when the day of the party arrived. The room had not been laid out as we had agreed and had the completely wrong number of seats and tables out. The DJ (which cost us $150 paid to Hedworth Hall) was not there. The people who did eventually arrive to sort the music had only just heard of the party earlier that day (despite the money being paid over a month in advance). My fiance and I had spent quite some time planning an appropriate playlist for the night as well (there were young children coming). The manage of Hedworth Hall had assured us on multiple occasions that he would pass on our playlist to the DJ. This did not happen even after numerous texts, emails, and calls. Even throughout the evening after giving the playlist to the DJ IN PERSON they still deviated and could often be found at the bar letting whatever random music play from their standard playlist. When organising the night, we were told that last orders would be shortly before 00:00. Unfortunately, before 23:25 the DJ stopped the music, packed up and left. Other staff turned the bright lights on and started stacking chairs in the function room. All the remaining guests were then repeatedly told to get downstairs and then to get out of the building. Many guests had come from quite a distance and had taxis booked for about 00:00 so they were left standing outside. Bear in mind the whole package cost over £800. I do not recommend booking Hedworth Hall's function room. If you do, then DO NOT pay for their DJ as this will be a huge rip off. Also, most importantly, prepare your guests to be rudely pushed out of the building at 23:30 regardless of the time you are promised and paid for.

My brothers wake and every guest commented on how good the food and venue was.
