Amazing roast dinner, super friendly staff and great with the kids. Defo recommend for a family Roast dinner. Will visit again.

We love The Lord Nelson, We’ve recently moved to Topsham and this is our favourite pub / restaurant. Welcoming friendly staff (especially Pete who’s been on shift the 2 occasions we’ve been) great food, ambience, and decor.

Food was average. Waiter forgot our side of chips, probably because he took our order with no notepad! Only 2 of us so fair enough IF you remember the order! Then brought us a pudding menu but never took our order so we left. Good pub for drinks but would not recommend for food.

Came for Dinner on a very busy Saturday night We were made very welcome by Pete & looked after by a young man Ollie who was very attentive I had the homemade steak and ale pie and it was hands down the best pie I've tasted in a pub, my wife had the Thai curry also homemade and she said it was delicious We haven't been here for a long time as the last owners weren't so friendly, lots of people told us to try it again with the new owners and we are so glad we did Will definitely be back very soon

Found the staff rude and the pub atmosphere very cold! We arrived 3 minutes before our booking at 12, the side door was open so we walked in, there was a man doing DIY in the restaurant so I asked if it was ok we came in, a lady from the bar area shouted NO!!! Did even bother to come over to greet us, then someone else shouted we will unlock the main door at 12! We were aloud in 3 minutes later there was a very strong and unpleasant smell of toilet cleaner!! The bar man was so miserable and unwelcoming, and the lady who shouted just glared at me! The barman then forgot my husbands drink, so brought it over to our table, which he spilt down my husbands leg and on our sons colouring book, and didn’t apologise. We had to ask another waiter to take our order even tho we were the only people in the restaurant, we were totally ignored. The food was average, microwave pub grub, I had a Thai curry, full of stringy inedible green beans! Would definitely not recommend or return, the other pubs in Topsham are so much nicer

Lovely welcome, stunning interior and brilliant food. We were served by Jayne who was very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. We arrived without booking and the place was full. Rather than turning us away, two tables were moved next to each other from different sides of the room without any fuss and we had a lovely experience all round. Will definitely be back soon! (The chilli was to die for!)

Last minute decision for Sunday lunch. Not been here before and what a great find. Lovely service, nice atmosphere and lovely decor with a nice welcoming fire. The food was really lovely and tap quality. Had the roast beef with trimmings . Would recommend and will be coming back.

We attended for our annual Topsham Hays Christmas Party and this year we selected The Lord Nelson. We were not disappointed at all. We had a glorious Christmas Roast and delicious desserts from Berry Eton Mess to a very Tasty Chocolate Cheesecake. The ambience was wonderful, and the owners Jon and Jayne are what made it. You and your team are fantastic and please keep doing what you are doing.

If I could rate higher than 5, I would. I booked our work Christmas meal here without having eaten here before. There were 22 of us, and Jayne couldn't have been more welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble. The festive menu had lots of choice. I chose beef, and it was so tasty and tender. Everybody in our party had a great time dancing to the live music. We will definitely return.

We popped in to meet family whilst on holiday from New York. Met the owners from Manchester (also my home town originally) who were very welcoming and friendly. We were not planning on dining so instead ordered a bunch of appetizers for the table of 6 to share. Everything was delicious and was washed down with some great ale. If I am honest I forget everything that we ate. I do remember the black pudding croquettes, Haloumi fries, Squid and soup in particular. The atmosphere and overall hospitality stood out and we will definitely be back in next time we visit Topsham.

Called in for a drink (or two) whilst enjoying a December weekend break in Topsham. This is a great pub with incredibly friendly and helpful bar staff. Loved the cosy feel of the place and comfortable seating. Didn't eat here as we had already made plans but will do on our next trip.

I visited Topsham for 2 nights and spent both evenings sampling either musical or food- based entertainment at the Lord Nelson . I had fantastic service from Jane, the manager, and Ollie, each time. I can’t rate this place too highly - try the Lancashire hotpot or the fish and chips - the quality is wonderful.

We first visited on Friday 1/9 and joined an unexpected Friday night quiz which was busy and fun. We won a Sunday meal which we throughly enjoyed later that weekend. It was one of the best Sunday Roast dinners we have had for a long time, in a friendly pub with a great choice of drinks and service. We highly recommend this place and look forward to visiting again in the future!

I'm sorry to say so, but this was a very disappointing Sunday lunch out. I think the experience is summed up by the offer of mustard in a plastic sachet rather than a small dish. The beef really didn't taste as if it was cooked today, and the gammon was just ok. Setting the meat on a bed of mash with three roast potatoes to the sides; for me, a rather odd combination. The meal was reminiscent of a mediocre school meal. WE'd really like you to succeed. Please up your game.

Four of us went here based on previous reviews. The staff are very friendly and made us feel very welcome. The surroundings are very tasteful, but we were a bit surprised how quiet it was for a Saturday evening. The menu is traditional pub fayre but with a bit of a twist. Service was prompt and the food good. There was no rush and the staff were there when needed. It was a good meal. Bit surprised it wasn't busier. But great to have a meal and be able to catch up with great friends.

The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. At first we are we’re shown to a table with sofas but when my husband asked to be moved as he has a bad back it was no trouble and a suitable replacement table was found with chairs. The food was excellent. My husband ate a chicken dish with a tomato sauce and chunky chips accompanied by plenty of vegetables mine was traditional scampi and chips with peas, beautifully served. We finished with a liquor coffee and a hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows. Only one small negative was that we parked in Pay & Display car park next door and the signage didn’t make it clear enough that parking was free for the pub as long as you mentioned your registration number when you entered the pub. Other than that it was a very pleasant dining experience. The pub was also dog friendly.

There was a lovely atmosphere in this pub. The staff were all friendly and the food was hot and very quick, would defintiely return.

Had pleasure of a meal here on Saturday night, each time we have been the landlady and landlord have always been very friendly and welcoming, which is a pleasant change from the previous ones. All the staff are attentive and helpful, the food was reasonably priced and very tasty, I had looked at the black pudding fritter starter previously on the menu and had set my mind on these - and was not disappointed - they were immense, chicken parmesan as main course - again really good. Already planning what we will have next from the menu

The Nelson Topsham What can I say if I could give the Nelson more than a 5 star review I would The licencees Jane and John are so accomodating and both they and the staff are so professional and give all customes 100 % of their attention nothing is too much trouble to make your visit a great experience The food is brilliant everything cooked fresh and the presentation is amazing with a a great variety of beers etc They cater for everyone and are very passionate that all ages young or old are catered for and looked after a great place to be The place itself is exceptionally clean and welcoming and kept to a very high standard with a nice outside space to drink and eat I love this place and will be back again next year to enjoy Jane and John's hospitality and great food and company Jane and John please keep doing what you are doing its Fabulous

Beautifully presented and refurbished by new owners . Nice restaurant setting . Food menus for veg and nonveg choices . As we have found in most places prices and portions need to be better value for money but we will certainly visit The Lord Nelson at Topsham again 😀

Recently under new management, and thankfully returning to life as a local. We had supper and drinks. Food was excellent, perfect portion size and well cooked. Great selection of wine by the glass. And a brilliant team headed up by Rachel, who is a gem. We will be back!

I've visited this pub a few times once last year and once this year and since the new owners have taken over in March this pub has improved 100%, really lovely atmosphere, friendly attentive staff, nice surroundings and food. Looking forward to returning.

Sunday roast was fantastic. Melt in the mouth. Good value. Pork bites starter was fantastic, I had the pork which came with amazing braised red cabbage and lovely cauliflower cheese. Sticky toffee pudding was light and not overly sweet as it sometimes can be. Fantastic

Hadn't booked but they managed to fit us in on a wild, wet evening. Service was prompt and food delicious. Staff really friendly and helpful. I had the chicken shawarma which was awesome. My partner had the chilli tacos - also tasty but only complaint was the small portion size, more starter than main.... Which meant he had to have something else...leading us to the cheeseboard which was scrummy. Delicious cheeses, lush pickled celery. Called in en route to south Devon for lunch. The weather was utterly filthy but the LNI has a good outside arrangement with a marquee. Toilets were easily accessible without having to access the main pub building. The gentleman serving had to run back and forth to the pub in the pouring rain but remained cheerful and, awesomely, the food stayed hot! Had the pork bao bun - my first ever but it won't be my last. During Covid times every aspect of life has become difficult,including finding somewhere suitable and local to hold a Wake,until you contact Rachel and Darren at the Lord Nelson that is!Nothing is too much trouble,and fitting in an afternoon buffet in the marquee was easily arranged..The food was lovely,plentiful,great selection of goodies,all homemade and very competitively priced,and very much welcomed after a very wet afternoon saying a fond farewell to my dear Dad.I've known 'The Nelson' for all of my 60+ years and I can honestly say that the couple now at the helm are doing a fantastic job,its an exciting,vibrant local pub and I for one am looking forward to a meal and some live music with family and friends very soon.I have no hesitation in highly recommending the Nelson.Thank you both so much for helping lift everyones spirits after an emotional time and I wish you every success with this fab pub..

Caught up with a friend over the weekend so was looking for somewhere to go for dinner. Booking a table for outside was very easy and was great to be sat in the sun. My first pint back was very much enjoyed, so much so I quickly ordered another! We ordered food which wasn't the quickest to arrive but the beer garden was packed so understandable. Reasonably priced, food very nice and well presented. Would definitely recommend visiting, I'll be heading back soon for sure

My partner and I have consistently had roast dinners from the goose and gander kitchen @ The Lord Nelson through lock down and they keep getting better and better! We both had the beef which was pink and succulent with an abundance of veggies and crispy spuds! Can’t wait for the place to reopen to enjoy more of the amazing menu and for the live music to start again!! Best pub and kitchen in Topsham!

Ordered a roast for Mother’s Day Sunday roast, was appalling, dry, overcooked and burnt. Should never have been handed out. Feel really let down on a special occasion.

First time to the lord nelson under recommendation, very clean , lovely warm welcome , very compliant with guidelines too which is great to see .I had the popcorn prawns with candied cashews , really a very good and well balanced dish We heard the chefs are game specialists so naturally opted for the venison, cooked perfectly , melt in your mouth !! The cauli cheese was beautiful , all the sides were superb to he fair and lashings of jus . Well worth the 2 hour trip from Bath, will definitely be back , keep doing what your doing guys , couldn't fault anything Good gin !! Selected by the landlady for me , local too!!

By far the best roast dinner i’ve had in the Exeter area. Just delicious. We had dessert to finish which was equally as gorgeous. Can’t wait to come back
