My husband and I took our friend for lunch Easter Tuesday. Haven't been for a some time and was surprised at the refurbishment. Loved it! Certainly makes it a lot lighter, used to be rather dowdy. Very nautical looking now and very comfortable. The Staff are lovely too. Our friend and I had the small fish and chips and my husband had a Ploughman's. We were all more than pleased with them. Deserts good too Will definitely return .

Went here to eat on 15/4 was shown to a table very promptly with a menu. We waited 15 minutes sat at the table. No one came to see if we wanted a drink or were ready to order. It wasn't as if they were busy there. We were the only 2 in the restaurant, hence we got up and walked out!!! Shame really as it seemed like a nice place pity about the young staff.

Such a friendly pub. Staff couldn’t have been more helpful. Great value for money, big portions. Have been twice now and standard been the same both times. Looking forward to returning with family in a couple of weeks. A really relaxed venue, great for chilling out and a great time with friends.

There were 7 adults and 3 children for a drink and a birthday meal. We spent a great deal of money on both food and drinks and although the food was reasonable I felt the service was appalling! The young waiter was so rude. Not once did he ask us if we enjoyed the meal, nor did he bring any sauces( only by prompting several times). In the 4+ hours we were there, not once did he show us any kind of service or communication, he even gathered glasses without asking if they were finished with. We even tried having a light joke with him about a toy that one of the grandchildren had left behind, but again, no smile , no communication. When we went to the bar to complain about has attitude we were met with an uninterested response from his colleague. I hope in future that the navigation inn look at their staff and fully train them in manners, we will certainly not be returning there either as individuals or as a family. Appalling behaviour and attitude from the staff and this waiter in particular

First visit since refurb. Excellent meal. Started with Beetroot Tortellini and Kofta. Both superb. Then Salmon and Chicken Burger both lovely and tasty. Don’t often write a review but this was so nice. Restaurant had lovely ambience. Thoroughly recommend. Pricesreasonably good. Good friendly service

This pub has just been renovated throughout & looks 100% better than it did before. It is fresh, clean & nicely furnished. I came here for Sunday lunch with family & the meal was enjoyed by all. I myself had the beef which was very good. My only slight niggle was the size of the Yorkshire pudding which was tiny by most pubs standards. I hope this pub does well & wish it good luck.

Very much a traditional pub and a little rough around the edges. We got a warm welcome from the two guys behind the bar who were both very friendly. The Inn sits alongside the canal, and some of the other customers had arrived by barge and a good atmosphere was developing. The food was - I am very pleased to say - also traditional. My wife and I both had the gammon with chips and peas and it arrived well cooked and without being kept waiting. The price was pretty good too! We both enjoyed our meals and will definitely revisit next time we are this way. A time of writing. they were only opening Thursday-Sunday, so it is worth checking first.

We have been visiting The Navigation for several years, but I am sad to say that our last visit at the weekend was very disappointing. There was not enough staff to cope with demand, resulting in quite a wait for food However the staff that were there were excellent, and certainly tried their best. Outside the grass area was in desperate need of some tidying as it was quite overgrown. This is such a shame as it is one of our favourite pubs, and has always been good in the past. I hope it returns to it’s previous standard soon

This is how an out of town should be. Guessing summer trade is its biggest asset next to the canal. Used search for sites with our camper van, pre warned, got a warm welcome email to stay. Table reserved when we got there. Big car park. Nice staff. Did the £20 for 2 people meal deal (fish n chips) . Absolutely no complaints for what we got. Chatted to the locals for local info. Landlord joined in. Said we could leave our van the next day to explore the area. Really nice guy. More than happy to eat/drink/ stay here again.

Really nice, traditional pub in an historic building. Clean and tidy. Staff were very friendly and polite, attentive without being intrusive. Good, hearty traditional pub grub. Drinks were ice cold, which is just what you want. We had steak, chips, peas, onion rings and salad, & scampi, chips and peas with the most delicious homemade tartare sauce. Not over priced, either. 3 meals and 3 drinks came to £53, which is very good value in the current economic climate. It's dog friendly, which is absolutely lovely. They even sell dog ice cream, which is super cute. Plenty of parking outside, right beside a canal with barge boats moored up. It's a nice place serving good food and we'll definitely be going again.

I went here earlier today and had a bowl of chips and a cup of coffee. I sat at a bench in the garden and watched the world go by as I enjoyed the taste experience which was thoroughly satisfying in every way. Why, I hear you ask , does this only merit one star? Well, the low star rating doesn't actually belong to the pub. I'm bestowing this accolade on the extremely rude neighbours who share the pub car park. I'm referring to the boat hire company who moor their boats alongside the car park. I arrived by canoe and was about to exit the canal and carry my boat to the garden 10 yards away when a lady cleaning the boats told me i couldn't get out there and directed me to a bridge about half a mile back. Bearing in mind it's quite heavy carrying canoe that distance I was not best pleased. There weren't signs saying no canoes (which I would have respected) only the stroppy attitude of said woman. I raised the issue with a junior member of pub staff but I don't think anything will be done. That's really the reason for this review. Could the pub manager and the boatyard manager come up with some better signs or maybe compromise a bit? This might prevent arguments in the future. I almost didn't bother with the pub but it's not their fault and I didn't want them losing trade. God bless thanks for listening.

Called in here just before they stopped taking food orders at 2. Inside has far more appeal than outside as when we first pulled onto the car park we thought it was closed ! Very friendly staff and it’s cosy in the main dining area. We had two steak & Ale pies (as recommended by the chef whilst we were at the bar 🙂), they were probably the best pies we’ve ever had and came with a superb tasty gravy. An interesting aqueduct adjacent to this pub and the canal built in the early 1800’s. Don’t be put off but the low key kerbside appeal as it’s worth a trip inside. Clean toilets too. Attentive staff. Can’t grumble. I’ve given instead of 5 due to the lack of appeal from the outside… P.s unless you’re a local or know the pub the entrance is right around the back…

We had a table for three on Saturday evening and on arrival found the place was absolutely rammed with customers. It’s a very busy pub! Let me say the things that either let the place down or we didn’t like first. I did not like to see a waitress take the side plates from a large group - including children who had been handling them - and lay up another table using them. That’s a bad practice and unhygienic. The noise from the general chatter and business in the pub was horrible. It was far too hot and people sitting too close together. The table was a bit sticky. Although it had been wiped with antibacterial spray as we arrived it needed proper clean. There were 4 children at the table of 12 adjacent to ours and they were noisy and ill behaved. They had balloons which they kept squeaking and it annoyed their own parents and the other table behind ours. The kids were running around and out of control. Bad parenting spoiling things for other customers! It was too dark to really see what we were eating. It’s an old pub and I know there has to be an allowance but it’s too dark - all three of us commented. Good things. The staff were run off their feet but they had a smile and did a great job. We had quick service and the waitress got it right first time. The food was a little slow coming out but it was expected due to being so busy. The pub looks nice (would look better if not so crowded) as it has beans and old world charm. We had three ribeye steaks which we agreed were cooked excellently. The chops were tasty and the xtra sauces - Stilton and peppercorn - were very good. I want to repeat that the food was lovely. On our way out we went through another, smaller room that was empty and I wish we had seen it beforehand as it looked peaceful and calm y advice to anyone is to book in advance. Perhaps ask for the quietest evening if you don’t like a very busy pub. It’s not particularly cheap - our bill was around £140 for three steak and chips with sauce add bottle of wine - but food was lovely. Don’t be put off by my opening comments as I admit o hate busy and noisy places. (I see I left a previous review for this public a couple of years ago but this was my error and it was meant for the other pub in the village so I will delete it.)
