We had a table for three on Saturday evening and on arrival found the place was absolutely rammed with customers. It’s a very busy pub! Let me say the things that either let the place down or we didn’t like first. I did not like to see a waitress take the side plates from a large group - including children who had been handling them - and lay up another table using them. That’s a bad practice and unhygienic. The noise from the general chatter and business in the pub was horrible. It was far too hot and people sitting too close together. The table was a bit sticky. Although it had been wiped with antibacterial spray as we arrived it needed proper clean. There were 4 children at the table of 12 adjacent to ours and they were noisy and ill behaved. They had balloons which they kept squeaking and it annoyed their own parents and the other table behind ours. The kids were running around and out of control. Bad parenting spoiling things for other customers! It was too dark to really see what we were eating. It’s an old pub and I know there has to be an allowance but it’s too dark - all three of us commented. Good things. The staff were run off their feet but they had a smile and did a great job. We had quick service and the waitress got it right first time. The food was a little slow coming out but it was expected due to being so busy. The pub looks nice (would look better if not so crowded) as it has beans and old world charm. We had three ribeye steaks which we agreed were cooked excellently. The chops were tasty and the xtra sauces - Stilton and peppercorn - were very good. I want to repeat that the food was lovely. On our way out we went through another, smaller room that was empty and I wish we had seen it beforehand as it looked peaceful and calm y advice to anyone is to book in advance. Perhaps ask for the quietest evening if you don’t like a very busy pub. It’s not particularly cheap - our bill was around £140 for three steak and chips with sauce add bottle of wine - but food was lovely. Don’t be put off by my opening comments as I admit o hate busy and noisy places. (I see I left a previous review for this public a couple of years ago but this was my error and it was meant for the other pub in the village so I will delete it.)

4 of us went to the broom We all ate something different. The meals were the worst we have had in .any years.the service was great but the food was bland and tasteless. Since I had my meal I have had a upset stomach. Not sure if it's a coincidence or not. They have lost 4 customers. I would have complained but my friends said it's not the waitresses fault. I said I know all this but if they are not told the food is not edible. How will they put it right for the next customers.

Arrived without a reservation for Saturday lunch and they were able to accommodate us. I would advise making a reservation though. Very friendly staff. Excellent menu. I have a couple of starters which were very good. The pil pil prawns are good and a generous serving, good taste and heat. They make all their bread here and all we tried were very pleasant, especially the focaccia. Rest of the group enjoyed their choices - we all had different meals. Good quality, portions on the large side. The espresso, despite being on the large size was good quality and came with a very tasty biscuit ( gluten and dairy free). Open fires. Lots of locals. Seems to be a community pub which is fab to see when so many pubs are struggling. I hope this place is as busy on other days.

This was such an excellent Sunday Lunch I really cannot fault it. The staff were attentive and the room was warm and welcoming. We both had a starter mussels for me and prawn piri piri for my partner very good portions and delicious. Beef for me which was extremely tender and lamb for my partner served with a huge Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and a selection of vegetables including a small dish each of cauliflower cheese all these cooked to perfection. Even the horseradish sauce was home made. Everything was piping hot served on really hot plates which makes such a difference. We had a lovely bottle of wine and finished up with Irish coffee. It was lovely to be able to come out and say I really enjoyed that meal instead of complaining to ourselves about some aspect of the meal. We will definitely return.

Stayed near here for a long weekend and went here on our last day. Gutted we did not find this gem on our first day. The pub was lovely. Homely English style pub nicely set out. We had Sunday lunch. All the staff were lovely and welcoming. They were very attentive. Friendly and chatty but did not overstay their welcome. We had a roast dinner which was delicious (cauliflower cheese was to die for and I don't usually like it but i could have licked the bowl out) - followed by 2 scrummy puds. All the food coming out looked wonderful. I would not describe it as pub grub. More upmarket. No complaints at all. I would definitely recommend a visit to eat or just drink . Hope we get the opportunity to do so again.

Christmas lunch food was disgusting, couldn’t eat any of it. Poor drinks service, waited over 40mins to order drinks, starters were inedible, beef of main course still had a pulse it was that raw, veg far too hard, couldn’t cut it, covered in sage. Cheese board was very disappointing, couldn’t even bite the crackers what ever they were made of. Mince pies we literally couldn’t cut or bite. The coffee was decent, the service was not up too much. A Sunday evening, not usually the best time for a meal out. But The Tavern at Broom bucked that generalisation. We both had the Sunday roast, and although I'm not a fan of meat based dishes even I had to admit that it was amazing... the beef was done to perfection and the blend of several types of vegetables enhanced it beautifully. Happy as we were with the main course, we decided to check out the dessert menu and were delighted to find that they served an eclectic selection of HOME MADE ice creams and sorbets. Including our favourite liquorice (with lemon meringue) flavour. An unlikely combination, possibly, but it worked. And all of this served by Lauren (friendly, informative, efficient) who made time to chat. At £50 for two, including drinks, dessert and a tip it was very reasonable value too.

This may have been an off day, but the awards, pictures and reviews had us expecting great things. Staff were really friendly and attentive. Menu reads well and lots of choice even for a Sunday lunch like we had today. Sadly the food was mediocre, not very warm, and quite bland. Maybe it was the 4pm time and being in between main service times, but the food felt like it had been sitting for some time. On a plus side the meat (I had the trio) was good, the potatoes and vegetables not so good. Great atmosphere in the main bar and looked to be a a well liked cosy village pub for a drink or two.

Unfortunately we were next to a table of six loud mouthed drunk people who were so loud that it destroyed the ambiance of the dinner for all other diners. Highly recommended Sunday roast! First timers here and we came on recommendation. It's obvious why! The pub was packed out and still they kept on coming. That did not stop service being a top priority. We didn't book, cos that's just how we roll, and despite the pub being packed out we asked if we could eat in the covered outside area, which was accommodated without issue. Despite apologies for the wait from the attentive, polite and well trained staff I wouldn't consider it a wait at all. The outside area was spaciously separated and would be cool enough in summer and despite a crazy downpour was plenty warm enough for us, with patio heaters available around the area should they be required. We will definitely be returning to sample some weekday lunchtime offerings and maybe a cheeky date night treat. Beautiful historic pub, just as we like them.
