We were travelling from North Wales to Ludlow and were looking for somewhere to have Sunday lunch. We looked in Tripadvisor and found this pub which was highly rated so we booked it. We were a little early and drove past the pub and I had to double check we had the right place. Do not judge a book by its cover! The pub looks a little tired from the outside. It’s been described in previous reviews as ‘quirky’. It sure is. The staff were so welcoming. I prefer to eat veggie and vegan food. The menu had a good selection for me to choose from. We had starters and a Sunday roast dinner. My husband had beef and I had a nut roast. Both were delicious. A good variety of well cooked vegetables , Yorkshire pudding and great roast potatoes. Excellent quality and very tasty. Would highly recommend this pub if you are looking for somewhere to eat. 2 starters , 2 mains and 2 alcoholic drinks £49. Excellent value for money. The service was spot on. This pub was very busy with lots of groups of friends and families. We will definitely return.

Staying nearby for a family anniversary we had pre-booked our meals being eight of us. Food and service was spot on, certainly enjoyed my sea bass. Really is an old-fashioned pub, nice and rickety I'm glad to say. Would certainly go again if in the area. Only awkward bit is, front entrance step is not very safe for somebody dodgy on their feet, and it is slap bang on the road.

We arrived here on our narrowboat and moored up a couple of bridges away the countryside was stunning but we really needed a good pub!. On entering the Navigation we were blown away! This is a real pub with so much character and is very quirky and different!. We had food (Camembert starter, roast beef dinner, pie of the day and Eaton mess) wow the food was very special and way beyond expectations. The two guys who run this pub need to be congratulated for their efforts. Its a place that we will never forget and really hope to return to soon. The only thing that I would say is that if you like Weatherspoons then please don't call as this is a real pub and not a microwave one!!!. Thanks to all the Navvy team.....exceptional xxx. I visited on the 1st August, with a friend, for our monthly catch-up and was thorough;y impressed. The pub is what I’d call a proper pub with some quirky bits and not your cookie cutter pubs that you get nowadays, it has character On arriving we were greeted by a friend;y gentleman behind the bar and asked what drinks we’d like, we were then seated, given menus and perused whilst we waited for our orders to be taken Both my friend and myself ordered the same, a pork chop cooked in white wine with sauerkraut and plum, served with pancetta mash and served with apple fritters and roasted onion About 5 mins before the meal was ready, we were taken into the restaurant to be seated and the food arrived The food arrived and looked amazing and there were some unexpected, but welcome, chunks of cracking on the top. Not just looking amazing the food was delicious, so tasty and lots of different flavours and textures An additional treat, outside were a bunch of men singing songs which I guess were originated from canal life, as the pub is,situated on the Montgomeryshire canal, and I recognised a coup,e of sea shanty’s too The chef came out to enquire how the food was and there could be no complaints at all The food was very reasonably priced, great quality and portion size and something different to many pub menus The overall experience was great, the Navigation Inn a hidden treasure and one which I’ll definitely be returning to

We stopped off by chance for a drink and sat outside overlooking the canal - lovely setting. We asked to have a look at the menu with a view to return. Well, the menu was excellent so we decided to stay and sample the food. You can tell a lot of effort has been put into the food - locally sourced where possible, fresh as it comes and choices for everyone. We opted for the pate and garlic mushrooms to start then chicken wrapped in bacon and lamb for mains. Quality food, albeit each course contained too much pepper for our palette. This is just personal taste and no criticism whatsoever. We passed our feedback to the owner who took it in the positive way intended. We found the owners to be very welcoming and friendly and the staff equally as pleasant. We look forward to a return visit soon.

We stumbled on the Navigation Inn by chance passing through and popped in for a drink. After having a wonderful evening chatting with Mark and meeting Brent the owners, we sensed their passion for producing great home cooked food, so decided to book for Sunday Lunch. We eagerly anticipated the Roast beef dinner with home made horse radish sauce and it was amazing. We both enjoyed every element including the perfectly cooked selection of vegetables. We both had a starter, I opted for the duck liver and brandy parfait which was delicious and my wife had the pea and mushroom risotto, which she thoroughly enjoyed and would like to return to have it as a main. Thank you both for the most enjoyable Sunday lunch and see you soon.

Alas I can't rate the venue, as I tried to get a table for lunch and had to chase the old boy tending bar from one room to another as he seemed to either be afraid of me or my custom?!! When I did finally manage to get a response I was told that the (half full or is it half empty?) pub was fully booked... I think I spent longer parking the car than I did in the venue. Not to worry, plenty of more welcoming venues within a short distance so no hard feelings.

So really easy to book in these troublesome times. Straight to a table by the canal which has a lovely outlook. looking at the pub it's very tired and in need of a lick of paint especially outside, there was a washing machine dumped in the eating area and the tables were dated, patio area was full of weeds just needs jet washing, furlough would of been a great time to do it? Food, small portion we opted for the 4oz burger it was okay. Pleasant staff and menu seemed fine. Inside is oldy worldy good for canal users. After we went for a walk along the canal which was ace. In summary it could be a gold mine if a few pennies was spent on it.

The Navigation served me the very best pub/restaurant roast lunch that I have tasted in my entire life… despite the massive handicap of lockdown rules forcing them to serve it as a takeaway in a foil container. I cannot wait to visit again once lockdown ends, as if they are capable of improvising a lunch of this quality as a takeaway, then what they serve in the building under optimal conditions must be truly incredible. I am also looking forward to a post-lockdown visit for the opportunity to soak up the gorgeous location right by the restored canal.

Being the first time out for months and with the government laying down so many rules and regulations we were very wary as to what we would find. We needn’t have worried! We were met at the door by a very friendly waitress. Obviously we were asked to antibac our hands, all staff wore face masks and we had the new procedures were explained to us. But from then on it was very much like any other really lovely night out. The staff were very attentive, everything was very well organised, the food was fabulous as usual (we would definitely recommend the homemade crumble!) and we did not once feel vulnerable from people being too close. We were looking for a night of normality, but were treated to a whole lot more!

An early evening game of cribbage with a tremendous pint of something delicious was a great start. Human Shazzam of the playlist was a lot of fun. Then a swift move next door to the dining room, table really nicely laid out, WONDERFUL food (I had macca cheese with Colliers cheddar - so nice I found some of it in the town to take home with me. Stood up well when transported to the north!) The roasted garlic head to spread onto toast before piling on the Camenbert was also inspired and I shall be impressing my chums with that idea. Then back to the fire and the pints and the cribbage, which became a team sport with the other punters and the owners. {I won.) Canal-side 18th century pub in a small village near Oswestry.Much bigger than you think; lots of linked rooms and drinking/eating areas. Very idiosyncratc - an upright piano in one bar with sheet music ready for you to start playing; a book exchange; a range rather than an open fire with lovely squashy old leather sofas around it.CAMRA listed for years; the range of beers is small but changes regularly. Had a pint of Stonehouse Station Bitter which tasted excellent.Host is a real hero - the sort of landlord every pub should have - and his (small) team were also excellent - friendly and helpful.Dogs are very welcome if well-behaved.Lovely and warm on a cool and wet February day.The one question mark was over the food - the menu reads really well but the dishes themselves didn't quite hit the spot. Risotto was apparently the saltiest dish my wife had eaten for years and my roast dinner tasted like it had been cooked in some rather old fat. The fish pie didn't seem to have the larger pieces of fish you'd hope to find in it.So a wonderful place for a drink, and maybe some plainer food; not a fine dining experience.

We had read a lot about how good the Navigation Inn was supposed to be so thought we would go there for lunch. We had a great drive along some very scenic B roads to get there, which was probably the best part of the day (about 60 miles one way). The menu looked good and we ordered crispy belly pork, which was advertised with saurkraut. When it arrived it was literally almost floating on a bed of juice from the saurkraut, consequently it was anything but 'crispy', quite soggy in fact. My wife pointed this out and they did have the good grace to admit that perhaps it hadn't been such a good idea after all. But there was no mention of any recompense for not getting the meal as advertised - 'crispy' belly pork! There were cobwebs in the corners of the ceiling that very obviously had been there a considerable time. The ceiling in the Ladies toilet was hanging down and covered in cobwebs and dirt. The guy that served us was wearing a pair of trousers that a car mechanic would have been ashamed to wear, they were filthy. On the plus side they are very dog friendly (although the dogs water bowl that they provided in the bar hadn't seen clean water in a while) and they have a good gluton free menu.Perhaps we just chose the wrong meal, but when that went wrong we started looking for other faults. We won't be going back.

Eventually sat to eat and found a very long black hair in the mirror of my starter, and in my partners drinks. Main could only be described as three very small mouthfuls of very tough meat, covered in slop in an attempt to hide it, which eventually caused an upset stomach and a sleepless night (trips to the toilet).

Yes, this pub certainly ticks all the boxes: very friendly owners and very friendly to dogs (treats on arrival, allowed in & better than that can stay in the bar, the parlour and even have their own dining room, neat), they have a good variety of local real ales and cider (Sweeney at 6.2%, proper stuff and full of apples). They seem short staffed at the moment but the food is certainly worth waiting for - all the menu is homemade and carefully designed, using local produce and fresh ingredients. They have themed nights and cater for all dietary requirements. We were surprised to be offered a full roast beef dinner midweek as well as their full menu but it was delicious - slow cooked beef with all the trimmings and homemade horseradish sauce to knock your socks off, brilliant. I enjoyed their own potted shrimps followed by crispy pork belly piled high on black pudding mash with sauerkraut and apple accompaniment. Excellent quality as well as quantity. I loved the village pub atmosphere and the quirky decor - there's a piano you can play and a set of ancient pews in the other bar. Inside it is "cosy" in a 1960's way & possibly not decorated since - but shabby-chic it is not. But that matters less if the food is good. 2 lunchtime tables occupied and unsurprisingly we ordered fish. The offering... the hardest batter ever encountered containing very soggy fish - suggesting "fresh" fish straight from the deep freeze & cooked frozen. Didn't bother with a pud. Maybe it was an "off" day - maybe not - but will not be going back. A pity as the canal-side location is excellent.

Four of us were on a New Year break in Oswestry and booked this restaurant for New Years Eve - we were not wanting an overpriced full banquet type meal! In the rural setting of Maesbury is this pub/eatery - a little gem. Good cask ale and a reasonable selection of wines and the setting/atmosphere is great. Typical country inn ambiance with great service from start to finish. This was a reduced menu for the occasion but that didn't matter one bit. Our meals were fabulous. Duck, beef and belly pork. Starters were equally good - not over priced and cooked to perfection. Food presentation was superb without being flouncy. A great night out - recommended.

Called in for Sunday lunch today.... what a good decision!! Beautiful food off a set menu. We had 2 courses for under £16. Our main meals came with a variety of vegetables and a decent portion of beautifully cooked meat. We both had the home made Christmas pudding which is the best I’ve tasted in years! Hosts were welcoming and friendly. Will definitely be returning very soon. Thank you very much.

We were staying nearby for a few days and ate here most days. The food was tasty and freshly cooked and there was a welcoming atmosphere. Our dog was also welcome and she loved the biscuits. The decor could do with some attention but all in all would recommend.

This is a lovely cosy pub/restaurant but it really needs some TLC and sprucing up. It's looking a bit grotty throughout really but it could be absolutely amazing. The food is very good although quite pricey and if the surroundings were as good as the food I think the place would be constantly packed out. The service is good and very friendly so worth a visit.

We called here yesterday for the first time and were delighted. We were a large group arriving at lunchtime with children, dogs and a bag full of board games. Many pubs would have wanted the Sunday lunch turnover, rather than a group already full from a late breakfast just wanting drinks and a natter. But we were made most welcome by the landlord and the regulars. Thank you for your kind hospitality. We'll return on another blustery Sunday to while away a few hours playing games and drinking tea and beer!

Called in here today, first time, although I have passed it many times walking along the canal with my dog. Lovely pub and restaurant with friendly owners who obviously want to give the best customer experience friendly and welcoming. Great beers, a lovely bar area which is dog friendly and they also have a bar eating area separate from the dining room which pets are welcomed in, brilliant in a rural area. Food is freshly prepared here too and can't wait to return to dine here next time. A refreshing change from chain pubs, try it!

We dined here last night and it was wonderful food, we hadn't booked so had to wait about 20mins which we didn't mind. The bar is dog friendly. Food was different, much nicer quality than your standard pub grub and very well cooked and presented. I had baked camembert to start which was amazing. Then lamb rump steak which melted in my mouth. Served with sauté potatoes, carrot and swede mash and roasted shallots. All delicious. Had very nice sticky toffee pudding and ice cream for pudding. Was hoping to try the rhubarb fool with poached plums but that was off the menu. Coffee came with home made shortbread which was excellent. This is a really nice country pub with traditional features but also has a beautiful dining area. Definitely worth a visit.

Booked this restaurant based on the Trip Advisor reviews. Atmosphere and restaurant itself is lovely, clean, quirky and well laid out. We got our drinks and were taken to the bar to have a look at the menus. Ordered and our starters (bread and olives) were brought to us in the bar. When the food was ready we were taken into the restaurant. I had the steak which was covered in peppercorns, no steak knife and wasn't cooked to medium as requested. Sadly however, there was no-one around to speak to. Eventually the waitress came over, my husband having finished his meal by now and I was able to ask for the steak knife but then she left again. It's only at the end of the meal when we had both finished, she asked how everything had been, where I mentioned the steak. She didn't seem too bothered which is a shame. My husband's meal was ok, but because of this, we didn't want to stay and have dessert. When we paid up, the owner didn't mention anything, not sure if he wasn't told or didn't want to ask. As a restaurant manager, I was disappointed with our experience here.

A trip down the Monty, rounded off perfectly by the exquisite Navigation Inn, were made to feel extremely welcome on arrival and had a drink on the comfy sofas in the bar. Then taken through to an extremely well appointed dining room with views over the canal. After a boiling hot day it was lovely to settle down and eat our delicious meal in the perfect temperate of the dining room. The food arrived quickly, was extremely well presented and was absolutely delicious. We would highly recommend ‘The Navigation Inn’ as a truly exceptional dining experience!

We visited the inn on our trip down the Montgomery Canal. From the outside it is a large brick building like many others but step inside to a great welcome & wonderful food. The bar has a varied selection of beers, ciders & wine & has a cosy relax here a while atmosphere. We had a drink before dinner on comfy sofas in front of a large fire which would be toasty in winter. Under the table were games & quiz cards which added to the pub feel. As we had a dog with us we were directed away from the restaurant into a lower eating area which was bright & well furnished. The menu was varied & making a choice hard. We had pork belly on black pudding mash with a divine sauce & lamb steak with trimmings. The table vote was fabulous food. The pub also has a small canal side garden for summer evenings. Don’t pass by, open the door you won’t be sorry.

Drop in for a Sunday lunch. The establishment appears to have a fresh menu each day. Two bar areas and quite quirky dinner areas one along side the canal. Very attentive staff. Our choice of food was well presented with main course being accompanied with a selection of six vegetables, sadly the Yorkshire pudding was a flat pancake! However, we shall be back in the near future.

Lunchtime food may be described as robust. Not the worst fish & chips that I have ever consumed but far from the best. Chips tasty and rather 'chip shop' and battered fish definitely edible though one of our party found it too greasy. Interesting tartare sauce - crunchy and perhaps contained capers - also gained mixed reviews. I quite liked it. Good real ale and the dining room is very pleasant. Whole place certainly atmospheric and may be very lively at times, I would guess. Quite good value.

Every time that we have dined at the Navigation Inn has been a delight. We have been made to feel very welcome no matter what we have requested in the past. As narrowboaters , it's always a joy to discover a pub/restaurant alongside the canal where you can moor up and enjoy a top notch evening - and at this pub you can do exactly that! It's quite a quirky place - in parts of it you feel like you're in someone's living room. It clearly plays a vital role in community life, providing a fish ordering service, a second hand book exchange and a fridge stocked with boater's 'essentials' like breakfast food etc. We had a drink in the bar area and the chef came out to take our order, happily answering the few menu enquiries we had. We then went through to the large, low beamed restaurant. I ordered chicken breast wrapped in bacon in white wine sauce (£14.95) and it was DELICIOUS! The flavours were just fantastic. Hubby (very difficult to please) chose Welsh beef steak with hand cut chunky chips (19.95) and announced it was the best meal he'd eaten in a long time. Teenage boys both opted for burgers with all the trimmings and said they were fantastic too. For dessert, I chose the crumble and my son chose the sticky toffee pudding - both were lush. Staff were friendly, food was sooooo good - we'll definitely be going back soon. Quality place.

We ate twice at the Navigation Inn during our week's stay in Morda and found it excellent. The welcome was very warm and genuine, the building itself was fascinating and the food was wonderful. Don't think you're getting standard pub grub because this is way above what you might expect, both in terms of presentation and in terms of quality (and choice). It might be a little way off the beaten track but it's well worth the couple of miles detour to enjoy a very special place. What's more, you can have a leisurely pre- or post-dinner stroll along the canal towpath. Highly recommended.

Went for the first secret diner club evening that is run by Jess who owns the fab 'not today seitan' in liar liar..what can i say?.the food was on another level. Litrally the best vegan food in Oswestry and way surpasses anything else available in a vegan cafe in Oswestry. The food was beautifully presented, the flavours were amazing and the cocktails were beautiful too. Really hope the owner decides to run these evenings on a regular basis although once word gets around i imagine getting a table will be really difficult. Its great to see a vibrant young business do so well and honestly the co trading with Liar liar is such a brilliant idea. Two amazing businesses running side by side. I cannot recommend this highly enough, the best vegan resturant/cafe in town by far
