Visit regularly with better half for a Coffee and Cake, but today was a guilty solo pleasure - Full English! Cooked fresh, it was excellent quality and did not disappoint (epic sausages from over the road). Midweek mornings are quiet, weekends can be busy with Mamils!

Unfortunately I have some quite negative comments. Myself and my partner called in yesterday lunch time. It was clearly busy but we were shown to a table and we were told someone would take our orders at the table. However after that, we were ignored and no one can to take an order for over half an hour. The poor staff were rushed off their feet and it looked like they were struggling to cope. I noticed other guests were also not being served. In the end we just walked out and went somewhere else.

The waiting staff were lovely - very polite and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. The setting is also beautiful - lovely stone building and stunning views of the rolling countryside. However, the English breakfast (we ordered both veggie and meat English breakfast) was overcooked and low quality. Overcooked tough sausages and bacon you could almost snap with your fingers it was that hard. The hash browns were also massively overcooked. I would have sent it back except that my kids were so hungry by that stage. The veggie sausages were some of the most tasteless I have ever eaten. It is pretty hard to get an English breakfast wrong. Disappointing. But thankfully relatively inexpensive disappointing - £50 for the 4 of us including drinks.

We were looking forward to a half way meet up with friends and being able to grab a bite to eat in the bistro. We gave the dogs a walk out first to stretch their legs so they would be settled. As we were half way the heavens opened so we turned around and walked back to the bistro. Out of politeness I stuck my head in to a very quiet bistro to say is it okay to bring dogs in and the young man gave a very severe “no wet dogs”. Given the dogs were no wetter than us or anyonelse entering we were at a bit of a loss. So we had no choice but to drive to the nearest pub which gave us an exceptionally warm welcome inspite of being very busy. A sad contrast which had put us off trying this location again. A loss of 4 brunches/lunches and drinks around £60-80. Frustrating. For clarity the dogs were both clean and travelled in cars before and after.

Another fabulous visit to the herb centre and another full car boot when we left. So many wonderful varieties to choose from, so many wonderful recommendations from the super knowledgeable staff. Apple mint, Corsican mint, Vietnamese coriander amongst the selection. Such a shame the Bistro let them down so badly! Lovely coronation chicken salads but the triple cooked chips were barely hot, slimy and the oil was seeping out of them. No one came to check if everything was ok so I went to the till and explained the problem and asked for some crisp hot french fries. No apology given, new fries took ages to come, didn't bother taking away the offending items and didn't take the cost off our bill either! VERY DISAPPOINTING end to an otherwise excellent visit

Fairly regular visitor to the herb centre and their cafe and usually happy with their selection of cakes and pastries. Feeling in a savoury mood decided to try their sausage and egg roll and was very disappointed. The roll contained a singe small catering grade sausage and an overcooked egg - not acceptable for a fiver! Having spent many happy years in 'the trade' I understand the need for portion control and kitchen percentages but this was squeeze too far. The staff were, as usual, friendly and helpful and the coffee was good as was the bacon and mushroom roll enjoyed by my wife.Just supplying good quality produce - even if it add a few pence to their food costs, pays dividends, even at a greasy spoon but especially at a venue like the Herb Centre. I'll make sure that I have breakfast before I go next time and just enjoy a cake.

Five of us met at the cafe. Food was brought in good time, despite it being busy. We chose a variety of meals which were mostly pretty good. My disabled husband found the macaroni cheese rather dry & without much cheese in the sauce though some on top. He's pretty fussy about food & refused to eat it. Joy the server lady was amazingly helpful & arranged to take it off the bill. So he at least ate something we ordered a cake which Joy added some Ice cream to, to encourage him to eat. 4 stars, as if the macaroni cheese had been brilliant, Joy wouldn't have had to be so helpful.

Visited on a Saturday specifically for lunch and it was extremely busy - always a good sign. You have to find a table first and then place your order at the counter, so there can be a queue, but despite that, the food came out really quickly and was piping hot. The jacket potato with chilli that my friend ordered was really tasty and a generous portion, and the macaroni cheese I opted for was the best I have ever had! Really good value for money too. I would have rated this bistro as excellent but for the waxed cotton tablecloths, which were, sadly, grubby and sticky - such a shame when everything else was fabulous.

We stopped for lunch after having had a look around the garden centre. The bistro is friendly and the staff helpful. There’s plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Service was pretty quick but unfortunately they brought our starter out at the same time as our main course which ruined the meal somewhat. They apologised when we pointed this out but that didn’t really fix the problem of our main course going cold whilst we ate the starter. The food was nice, you got a good sized serving, and the ingredients were a high quality. The burger was very good. The crispy duck salad was ok - it was a nice flavour but it wasn’t really very crispy. Overall it was a bit disappointing for the price.

We attended last weekend with friends and little people for Sunday lunch. The staff were very helpful and set up a table for us upstairs. Children's meals came before ours as requested and they seemed to enjoy them. Majority of us had roast beef which i found to be tasty, a good choice of veg and cooked well. Unfortunately my husband was a little disappointed with his, not because of the quality of the food or taste, but because his soup starter arrived with our mains, despite us saying a few times that it was a starter when they brought it out he also ended up with his main at the same time! As a result he had to inhale his starter (without a spoon! ) so his roast didn't go stone cold. Such a shame they didn't offer to keep it warm for him. All in all an enjoyable lunch but a little more attention to detail required.

It is also good value - especially on a weekday, when they do a 2 for 1 offer on breakfast. We arrived just after 9 and only 2 tables were occupied. they had received their food. The counter service was lovely and friendly, our coffees arrived promptly but we then had to wait 25 minutes for our breakfast. When it came it was delicious as always, but no apology or explanation was offered for the delay. Maybe it was just a blip, but I think we will give weekends a miss from now on. On the way we thought to stop in at The Herb Centre as it seemed practical however rather than finding a Restaurant we found an overpriced Café. We decided to order anyway as we were so hungry however to our disappointment the baguette we ordered was lacking any filling and a very small portion. The coffee we ordered (latte) was again overpriced like the poor food, not only this however the latte only had one size (small). The service we also found to be slow and unhelpful. After the overpriced food we had an overpriced piece of dry cake (£2.50!!). Overall the visit was awful, dirty table cloths, no attentive service to the table and the visit was ruined by the kitchen staff singing/shouting!! A generally unprofessional 'Bistro' with careless service. Would not recommend to anybody seeking good food at good prices- will try somewhere else next time we visit!!

Eight of us chose the herb centre to catch up for lunch mid week. I have not eaten there before so was a tad concerned by the sticky plastic tablecloths on arrival. The service was slow though we did all more or less get our meals at the same time. I chose the gammon egg and chips and didn't realise i had two eggs initially as they were served on top of each other- one was detached from the white and very well done, and then covered by a second egg that was only just cooked. The chips were well done (over cooked) but the gammon was ok. There was no check back to our table and no one came into our part of the restaurant so i was unable to voice my concerns at the time. I didn't feel it appropriate to pick up my plate and walk to the till with it so just ate what i could. We had to pay for our food when we ordered so there wss not the opportunity at the end of the meal either to comment. No one else on the table enthused about their meal so i can only say the whole ecxperience was average.

A party of 8 of us visited Sunday lunch time after looking round the herb centre and ahead of a visit to a nearby stately home. The cafe was not full. We ordered various light lunch items and drinks. First served; about 20 min after placing the order, was a cappuccino which tasted so bad it was undrinkable. i asked for a refund and got it. The woman on the till said they were training new staff. Next was 2 x tea and cakes, maybe 5 minutes after the coffee; they were fine. Other customers who had arrived after us were getting served meanwhile. We let the lady on the till know we would need to leave fairly quickly in order to get our "slot" to visit the stately home. That led to delivery of a baguette- also fine, but no accompanying drink. After 45 minutes and no further deliveries we decided to cut our losses, asked for a refund for everything else and left.

Went here on the way home after visiting somewhere else before hand. Seeing that it was not very busy and looked like a good menu we found a table. We then had to wait an hour and a half for our food and I have a 15 month old little girl, luckily she decided to behave herself. I only ordered a baguette with curly fries and a childrens munchbox after complaining several times and asking how long it would be each time they said oh we will just check and get it to you soon, third time going up I asked to speak to a manager and to my shock find out they don't even have one working all weekend!! It the took me another 10 minutes to finally get my daughters snack box which I sat down and gave her being told again mine wouldn't take long. Well another 15 minutes went past and a waiter came up asking if I still wanted my lunch which I assured him I did, and it then took them another 10 minutes to produce a baguette and another 5 after that to produce some curly fries.

We come here frequently often joking we are getting old visiting garden centres but the location is handy; free parking; fabulous plants and lovely grounds. Always enjoy the food- we often have lunch and I think the food is better than expected. It's always fresh. Anyway the veggie breakfast- veggie sausages; poached eggs; beans; grilled tomatoes, mushrooms, toast and coffee- AMAZING!

A group of about a dozen of us called in today for a tea and cake. Apart from us sat inside, there were a few people sat outside (in what looked like very pleasant surrounding) so I would not consider it to be busy. On the plus side, there was a nice selection of cakes which did indeed look very tasty and a massive plus for the flapjacks. Now the negative point, the service did seem rather slow especially given how many staff that seemed to be there, and they even managed to forget one lads toast and jam and to make matter worse he had to ask twice before he finally got it.So all in all, not a truly bad experiance really but it could have been better. So just middle of the road I guess, but needless to say that I probably wouldnt rush back.

I recently visited the bistro, the food and tea were very nice however there wasn't much to do or see when we had finished eating which was a shame as we had made a special trip.

Stopped off at the cafe (definitely not a bistro!) gasping for a drink before we walked round the herb centre. Service was a bit distracted. Ordered large cafetière - which would have served 3-4 people but coffee was quite weak. Variety of home baked cakes available. Cherry and almond cake was very nice but the coffee and walnut was dry with little coffee flavour. Cafe could do with a bit of a spruce up. I was facing a wall full of evidence of previous picture hangings (they display local amateur artists work for sale) and cobwebs. Not too bad overall but not worth visiting for cafe alone.

Have just spent the day at the herb centre with my 4yr granddaughter who requires a gluten free diet,we had a full activity day with lunch half way through in the Bistro the selection of cakes included a GF cake which wasn't a flavour my 4yr old would eat,the chef very kindly made her a chocolate brownie for after her lunch ,which I have to say was one of the nicest I have tasted and she loved it too,the staff were all very cheerful and helpful so Inthink it is safe to say we will be back.

Visited 16th July 2015, for birthday lunch. Have to say the food was excellent. Freshly cooked homemade beef burger on toasted bun covered in melted cheese with a tomato salsa, served with a small very fresh side salad and coleslaw and a portion of jacket potato chips, One of the best meals I have had in ages. Everything very fresh and grease and fat free. Staff very pleasant and helpful and if you eat outdoors you are treated to a fantastic view of hills and valleys full of wildlife. Well worth a visit.

We have eaten here before and today's food was better than ever. Fresh and tasty, super fast and served by friendly staff. The salad dressing was out of this world! You could taste the herbs used beautifully. I actually asked if I could buy some. Sadly not on sale. Many thanks for super service.

My wife and i live not far away and decided to go for breakfast as the weather was glorious this morning. 2 Full English for £12, a bargain but i would happily have paid more for it to arrive quicker and for the poached eggs to be runny rather than hard and the food to be hotter, i think it may have been sat for a little while? Saying all that, it was only £12 but it was still MY £12 so i still have expectations. We had breakfast outside and it's a very peaceful setting. I would definitely recommend breakfast there but i hope the Bistro read this and take it in the spirit it is intended, constructive criticism. Get the breakfast out sooner, serve the food hot and don't over do the eggs and I'm sure this will allow people to spread the word with a bit more comfort. I shall still spread the word that it's worth a visit...Because it is! :)

We stayed here and went to the restaurant to find it set for breakfast. On check out we discovered it had been closed for a year which caused issues as I’m type 1 diabetic! Shame also as the reviews were fantastic

Excellent in every way we were a group of friends all with dogs it’s a very dog friendly hotel. Mazine was the duty manager that weekend he was brilliant always there and happy to go that extra mile for the group. Fabulous food, clean spacious rooms and the staff are very friendly. I would highly recommend the hotel it’s in a great position friendly great food. I can’t understand why anyone could write a bad review if you want 5 star go to the Hilton or the Savoy

A colleague from overseas and his wife were staying here on a few-days visit to UK. My wife and I joined them for dinner - and wow, we were so glad we did. The welcome from the staff, from the moment we walked in and throughout the evening was nothing short of wonderful. Friendly, professional and fun where appropriate. Dinner in the restaurant was excellent -- I would particularly recommend the Pigeon which I had as a starter - would have had it as main course if it had been an option. I suspect that if I'd asked, they would have accommodated that too - but there was plenty to choose from. All 4 of us enjoyed a great meal in a lovely space with a great view of the floodlit church in the grounds. Not cheap, but worth every penny - cannot recommend it highly enough and my wife and I are already planning to return soon.
