Great local pub at the top of a very steep hill! We went in for lunch pretty late so only a few of the local regulars were in, always good to lusten to the local talk from men in pubs! Tye barmaid was excellent and worked her bar with style, the owners myst make sure to keep her and pat her well she earns her money and with her brilliant technique makes you money. I ate scampi and chips and my partner burger and chips both were good. We enjoyed our food with a beer and cider. The locals are lucky people.

4 of us 3 adults and 1 child, £41 including 4 soft drinks, took quite a long time for the food to arrive but it was worth it, all 4 of us loved all of our food, Wednesday night in August should have been busier certainly deserved to be, everywhere else we visited costed us at least twice as much for far inferior food, make the effort to go there

Lovely. Currently on our first night of a 2 night stay. Really delightful pub. Great selection of beers, ciders and ales as well as a well stocked bar. Can't comment on the food as the kitchen is closed for a couple of days. We're in the top room with it's own decking. Beautiful view. The room, the bathroom and the tea and coffee provided are fantastic. Very tastefully furnished room. Really comfy bed. Special shoutout to the lovely Ellie behind the bar who also checked us in. Perfect. Love Sam and Dean.

A little gem, away from the hustle and bustle of the town centre, the Nags head was spot on. The food, fantastic!! The beer was ice cold and well priced, if you're a football fan, you'll love it here. Loads of big screens and a kiss-ball match on every one (I'm not a fan of football). Great prices on the food, highly recommended...

At 9pm live music started blaring out, so loudly that our bed and floor vibrated. That stopped at 11ish, but following that we had 1.5 hours of people shouting loudly outside. Experience started off well - can't book dining online so e-mailed request and ended up having to phone - conversation was very friendly and welcoming. From then on it went down-hill. I have some restricted mobility and walk with a stick. Arrive at front of pub and realise its a steep flight of stairs to entrance. Manage up that, holding on to railing. OK welcome when we got in - we were early for our6pm booking but no problem although we were told kitchen doesn't start till 6 (says 5 on website). Where do we sit - here or upstairs - where's the toilet - upstairs - OK we'll sit upstairs. Two young kids around the bar (owner's presumably) - we order drinks and have to start carrying them and menus up steep and narrow stairs to the next floor. Has an eclectic look to the room, plus an external covered patio area. Everywhere has dirt / dead flies and isn't appealing. By then all hell had broken out in a very aggressive domestic back downstairs in the bar - manager and staff (wife?) - all about whether glasses were dirty - this had started in front of one of us while waiting for drinks to be poured - manager part poured a coke held it up and said glass is dirty - poured into another glass and said this one was dirty too - but then proceeded to fill the glass up and hand it over to the customer. The staff member (wife?) denied they were dirty and said she had cleaned them. As we sat upstairs the row just got louder and louder - and was clearly in front of the kids as well. We were the only customers and sat debating to order or to go. The argument suddenly stopped. We were feeling decidedly uncomfortable - no one came near us at 6 to see if we wanted to order. We decided to beat a retreat quickly and went back downstairs to pay for our drinks. The manager did ask us if there was a reason why we weren't staying - we didn't want to get into a conversation about the the appalling behaviour so just left.

We had an incredible experience at the Cross Keys. Mo and his team hosted my Father's funeral wake yesterday. The whole experience was incredible - made so special by Mo, Lucy, David and the girls. Nothing was too much trouble, and we felt completely wrapped up in their arms from the moment we walked through the door to make the arrangements, right through to the day itself. I cannot thank the team enough for creating such a special celebration, which you planned so incredibly well. The delicious food platters were superb, and all the guests said what a beautiful venue it was. I was personally nurtured throughout the whole day, with Mo and Lucy checking in with me to make sure everything was perfect - and even David coming in on his day off to make sure my Dad's favourite music was being played. I can't thank them all enough from the bottom of my heart for all their kindness. We stayed in their family suite for the night. Our room was superb, with the biggest bed I've ever slept in, and beautiful views out onto the market square and the Conduit. I can thoroughly recommend a stay at the Cross Keys - the service is exceptional, the rooms amazing, and the breakfast was superb. We also had our evening meal in the restaurant, and it was exceptional. THANK YOU TO THE WHOLE TEAM AT THE CROSS KEYS - YOU ARE ALL AMAZING.
