1st visit to the Nags Head, it was very busy and they were short staffed. But we had a lovely lunch and our waitress Chelsea was very attentive. The only small criticism was that the main course was served as soon as the starters was cleared. We had the sharing Meze platter for starters which was really nice and perfectly cooked fillet steak for mains. We will definitely be returning.

Cannot fault their £23.95 luncheon menu, excellent food. However was disgusted at the price of one small glass of pinot grigio at £10.75! Bearing in mind restaurants buy wholesale and one can buy a bottle in supermarkets at average £6.00, this is unacceptable. We will never return to this restaurant.

A friend and I came for lunch, we were really looking forward to a meal out. We were seated on a comfortable table in the garden with cushions on the chairs and an umbrella which was great. When our mains were brought out we had not been given enough time to eat our starters, the waitress took the mains back to the kitchen which was great, but when they see brought back out they were cold. Once again, the waitress did not complain and took the meals back and replaced them with fresh meals which were lovely. I don’t like to complain, but I don’t want to eat a dinner that is cold before it’s even been placed in front of me. After a while we ordered desserts, when our desserts were brought out one of them was wrong, again, not a problem as they changed it straight over. I had eaten a few mouthfuls of my dessert when I was told they needed our table back. I appreciate there being a limit on how long you can have a table for if a place is busy, but I asked for another 5 minutes to finish my dessert and was told no. Why would someone take a dessert order if you’re about to be kicked off of your table? Why wouldn’t someone come over and say we will need your table back in 10 minutes or something? So I paid for a dessert I didn’t have time to eat and had to promptly leave. After a while I was told they would try to find us another table so I could finish my dessert, but I don’t want to have to move to finish my dessert, I should have been told that we didn’t have time to have one which wouldn’t have been a problem, and given notice of needed to leave, which once again would not have been a problem. I recommend that in future you give your guests notice when you need their table back and also don’t allow them to order anything when their time slot is up.Well done to the kitchen team though, food was fab.

This place was just what we needed for our first dining experience out since the end of lockdown. From the warm and friendly welcome we received on arrival from the guy taking us to our table and explaining how it all worked for covid safety. All the way through with the young waiting staff looking after us in a very attentive way. We couldn't ask for more, except maybe a few extra heaters dotted about. Food was fantastic, and served hot despite the cold chill in the air. Drinks came quickly. Definitely coming back once the inside is able to reopen. Thanks you The Nags Head staff

We were greeted by a male who I believe was the manager. He was extremely unfriendly and rude to the customers in front of us. He continued to be unhelpful throughout our meal. He walked around for most of the afternoon like he didn’t want to be there. Such a shame as the waitresses were so polite and helpful. Food was average and completely overpriced. We were told that they are trying to make back money that was lost during lockdown. When we asked to move tables to sit in the sun we were told that we weren’t allowed to by the rude staff member even though there were 10 plus tables free. Ordered a final drink to also be told we had to drink it within 15 mins. This pub has definitely gone downhill and we will not be visiting again.

Met a cousin of mine, who had suggested this venue..she lives in Romford and I'm in Hertfordshire near Junction 25 on the motorway. As title, perhaps not the best time to visit during a pandemic, although I would congratulate the venue or it's adherence to Government Covid regulations..all staff masked, sanitisers everywhere, masks on as you enter, no bar service, tables way apart..the usual I suppose to engender a pleasant lunch with a dear cousin I hadn't seen for sometime..NOT.This is hardly the fault of the venue and I have commented positively upon the action they take to protect clients, but it's simply why, as an avid regular diner, I've given up eating out usually, until some semblance of normality is returned to all our lives: I am in the 'vulnerable' sector, due to age.The interior is dark here with typical older style furniture..toilets are on the first floor, up a narrow staircase.. you need a crowbar, to get past the entrance door to the Gents Loos, the closure spring is so fierce..toilets very clean though. So decor is generally dark, which doesn't lift your spirits in this establishment, in current dour times..staff are very pleasant, attentive without being intrusive, although masks don't help when taking the order..again, no criticism. My Cousin had a chicken batter starter, which appeared well presented and she enjoyed. I had a pate..again, well presented and enjoyable..for Mains she had a bass, fish dish, if I recall correctly..again very well presented and she finished everything..so draw your own conclusions!..I had a battered cod, with chips and mushy peas..lovely fish and chips..the peas could have been hotter and not so 'Gooey'..other than that..a fair meal..we had drinks first and I had a pint and a half of lager, followed by 4 coffees..two each..Total bill, with a cash tip, came to some £73.Probably won't visit again, given locality, but might when I meet my cousin again..if ever Covid restrictions are lifted from Restaurants etc. Might be nice to experience their fayre, in normal times as a comparison to the last visit: Also the 50 mile round trip on the M25, in pouring rain and jams, didn't enlighten the mood! Awful job, running arestaurant / Serving in these times.

Been here a few times. Sometimes it’s been amazing, sometimes it’s been ok. Our visit in the week was just ok. My back was up immediately we arrived to be told we could only have the table for an hour and 45 minutes!? Told the front of house guy that we were not told this at time of booking and it does not stipulate this on their website. He told us that it was too expensive to update the website so they are just informing people when they arrive?! Please see the photo attached. This is an email that the Nags Head sent me a couple of days before our reservation. Tells you all about reduced menu, arrive no earlier than 5 minutes prior to reservation. Nothing about an hour and 45 minutes at the table!! What a joke. And then a load of waffle about updating website?! Clearly I’m being taken for an idiot!! Due to the fact we were so limited to time we had mains only and a bottle of wine. How you can fit in starters, mains, desserts and coffee in this ridiculous amount of time I do not know. The Nags Head clearly wish to cram in as many tables in one night as possible! Food was nice but in all honesty not as great as another pub very close by. Due to the crazy time limitations at this place I certainly will not be returning. Very short sighted of The Nags Head when you rely on repeat customers especially in this climate.

The food and staff were pleasant enough but that is where the positives end. We ordered starter and main at 2.30 pm , the starter arrived quite quickly, when our mains had not arrived by 3.40 we asked what was happening to be told that there was a computer problem and it would be another 10 minutes, after another 15 minutes had passed I enquired again this time to the manager and he said sorry it will be another 10 minutes, it finally arrived at 4.05. I had a gift card for this establishment and when I tried to pay my bill with it he said sorry we are not taking those today, fortunately I had another method of payment otherwise it would have been very embarrassing, he refused point blank to answer me when I asked why he wasn’t taking it today, there was no signage in the pub or on their website, I would still like to know why it was refused. Needless to say this was the first and last time I come here.

We been here many many times before and we absolutely loved the food and service in several occasions. Food five star ⭐️ Waiting staff so polite and couldn’t do enough to make you feel welcome and top notch service. The only downside was when we arrive we had to wait five minute outside the door for someone to take us in and the waitress noticed from inside and said the man will see us in a min but after the man came to talk to us no apologies or greetings, do you have a booking with us??? We said yes please and given the booking name took him a while to find the booking Still no apology or welcome and said ok follow me through but you have 1 hour and 45 min To stay with us and it’s more than enough for a Sunday. We find that very rude and a poor customer service. That’s why we gave a four star. Many thanks for the chefs food was delicious and waiting staffs as we always loved the food and service very much.

We also saw each table being cleaned done as customers left. The food was really good, came in good time and the service was friendly, from a distance. Admittedly they had a few small changes to the menu but with more customers and time I'm sure it'll get back to the usual menu. Thanks for a lovely, social safe distanced evening!

The service here and it's sister restaurant George and the Dragon is usually much better than we experienced today. I can only assume the two managers on today were busy but I did not expect to ask for menus and then be ignored (the manager attended to cutlery and the phone instead of fetching them) so I asked the other manager. The initial manager (in earshot of me) moaned to him that I'd asked her already and when I mentioned this when the menus arrived, there was no apology. We had to chase our mains and again no apology for lateness and table wasn't cleared. Did not feel welcome or attended to. You can do so much better!

Oh dear! Why do establishments let themselves down so badly; is it because pubs are doing so well these days that customers are plentiful? I don't think so! We visited the Nags Head as we have on previous occasions; however, for the first time we had dinner there and certainly didn't see any notice relating to a parking charge. The meal and service were very good but to get a parking fine rather jades our view of this establishment...plenty of others in the vicinity.

I’ve been to this pub several times for different types of dinners and it’s quite hit and miss. First time I came for a Sunday dinner with my boyfriend and loved it! Food was great and service was well paced. Happy to pay the money. Second time I came food took ages and starter was so awful I couldn’t even eat it and sent it back even though I was starving so felt over priced. It’s usually busy in here and I feel like they struggle with the amount of customers. Takes a while for tables to get cleared and you end up doing it yourself or you wait around for a table for 40mins. The menu/pub could be great if everything else was executed well.

I'll begin by saying I've only given this place 2 stars over one due to the friendly, efficient, busy staff and the food was good...but, it absolutely stank of old pub loos mixed with damp and mould. It was so bad we had to change tables. The lone working barman said they are having problems sorting it. The grime everywhere was awful. Decades old filth. The kind of place where the owners or management either don't notice it or can't be bothered to spend money on a deep clean then regular thorough cleans. The flagstones were black, the carpet was grimy, the skirting, radiators and walls were thick with old gastro pub grime and splatter marks. Seriously just burrow a steam or power cleaner off a neighbour if the business can't afford to do it. If you can't afford a cleaner go in on your day off and clean that filthy place if you have pride in your establishment. Or sack your sleeping cleaners. No need to say we won't stop there again on way through. Gross gross.

The welcome we received was warm and genuine, the food absolutely fantastic - fresh and beautifully presented (and plentiful) and the service unhurried and friendly. A truly lovely experience and we will most definitely be booking for next year ASAP.

Never eaten here before and I have to say it was a wonderful experience. A great choice of menu and wines, a lovely environment and great staff. I ordered Salmon and I have to say it was a very generous serving and absolutely delicious. My partner had rib eye. I’m not a lover of steak but I tried it and it was really tasty and so tender. The food was very hot on arrival too. Dessert was an absolute delight. Plum, Damson and Apple Crumble. I’ve never tasted anything like it and the crumble was perfect. The staff here are so helpful and very very pleasant. I definitely will be going back

Booked a table for 8 for our pre Christmas family get together. On walking through the door you are greeted with a lovely lounge/bar area and as four of the group were early we sat here enjoying a drink whilst waiting. When ready we were shown to our table which was in a lovely little alcove in the restaurant. There was a good choice of fare on the menu and quality proved to be excellent across all three courses. We spent a total of just under £300 which included 8 three course meals two bottles of wine and a few drinks. Service was good with friendly staff. I would highly recommend this establishment to all.

Popped in on Monday for a quick bite to eat. Service was friendly and attentive. We ordered a couple of sandwiches and a couple of drinks. We had to wait a while for our food, but the overall experience was very enjoyable.

We have visited the Nags Head in Brentwood quite a few times for dinner. It is usually very good with excellent food and service, however our last visit on Saturday night wasn't so great.

Came to eat here with a friend for lunch and was really excited by the menu. Food was average, nothing to complain about but nothing to write home about. The worst thing was, I hadn't brought my purse with me and when I asked for a glass of wine they asked for my I.D! They wouldn't accept anything other than me having the driving licence in person, even a photo of my I.D. on todays paper which I asked my boyfriend to take along side my bank card with my name on it and my student card with my name and same date of birth on it. They also wouldn't let my friend who had an I.D. buy the wine for me despite the fact that i'm fairly certain that you can legally have a glass of wine with a meal if an adult buys it for you even if you are 16 and I am 27 amusingly. This was of course massively disappointing and then to rub it in we were asked again later in the meal, will we not be having wine with our meal and then the bill said underage refusal on it! Coffee was served with split coffee all over the napkin and plate and service was very slow. Won't be going back.

Had a lovely meal with my family all six of us celebrating my son passing his exams. All the food we ordered was very good no complaints but only two things to mention the first was my husbands chips were cold. The waiter replaced them immediately with a new portion which were very hot and when his dessert came, again it was not hot and it was taken away and a hot crumble and custard was replaced which was very hot and in fact our waitress Ruth took it off the bill, which we didn't ask her too. This showed excellent customer service and I have to say that all the staff were really friendly, but I have to single out Ruth our waitress, who was genuinely caring, polite and attentive but definitely not overbearing a big thumbs up to her. All our food was well presented, very big portions and above all tasted good, and competitively priced, will definitely be back again

Check the tiny print on the Fixed Price Menu - small meals only. Seafood linguine and fillet beef salad totally spoilt by too much chilli. Check the wine bottle to ensure it's what you asked for. Altogether not a good experience - a very disappointing meal.

My husband and I went out for dinner to The Nags Head on Saturday night. It was the first time we have visited and it won’t be the last. We Had been told that it had just been decorated. The food and service were really good. I have a wheat and dairy intolerance and the restaurant caters for people with special diets and good allergies.

Met at The Nags Head with friends for lunch. Our table was ready when we arrived but as two of our party got held up we had a drink first. We were not rushed to take up our table until they joined us.Our waitress was very informative about gluten free options which was a great help. All the food was hot, cooked beautifully and very nicely presented. There were lots of staff and we didn't have to wait for anything we asked for. Very friendly pleasant staff. Thank you all for making this reunion a great experience.

Like another reviewer here, my disabled mother was subject to a parking fine for parking in the disabled spaces while displaying her disabled badge! It's absolutely scandalous to trick the most vulnerable in our society like this and to then state there are no disabled spaces. It's not like the place was full either! Britannia and the owners should be ashamed of themselves but I'm sure they have no conscience to speak of.

Wagu burger was spoiled by cheap burger sauce which was a shame. And very cheap burger buns. Asked for a glass of water and was told to go and get it from the bar even though our food had just arrived. £43 for 2 burgers and 2 coffees.

I went with my daughter and have some allergy issues. I have never had so much attention to detail in terms of helping me with food choices. Very well trained and patient staff who went beyond expectations. The waitress even knew about the cocktail I had chosen (which looked very innocent!) and helped with another choice. I will definitely be returning as the food was much more than average.

We stopped off for some lunch with our 2 children, the staff were friendly and polite. They even made our son a bacon sandwich (not on the menu) as he's fussy and wouldn't have eaten off the kids menu! Lots of outside seating and heaters. The food was lovely, especially the chunky chips! Would definitely come back again.

Looked for somewhere to have sunday lunch on our way home from France and found The Nags Head. As it was just after 12.30 and we hadn't booked they managed to accommodate us. We didn't have a starter which was just as well as the mains was more than ample and well worth the money. We then were tempted to have a sweet and oh my once again we weren't disappointed. Thank goodness l opted for a mini pudding and coffee. Lovely place and friendly staff. Well worth a visit but advised to book as it filled really quickly

A group of friends and ourselves met here for lunch, although trying to park the car was a nightmare, avoid Friday lunchtime! A selection of meals from sandwiches, lovely carved ham, prawn cocktails both said nice, a lovely looking prawn, smoked salmon, avocado salad, I was told was lovely and I opted for the skate middle, which was small but nice. As always the pub was busy, with efficient service and we all had a good time

A lovely bar with a great atmosphere. We really enjoyed the nachos and wine. However, watched the nachos delivered to the incorrect table, which were then taken back to the bar, and when I asked Jake what had happened to the order he did not admit the error. Instead, in an unapologetic manner, said the kitchen was very busy and we would have to wait. I didn’t see him smile for the duration of our visit. Other than that, a nice time
