I am a type one diabetic and chose a balanced meal re carbohydrates and took an injection pre food. I was told the soup was unavailable 3 minutes before delivery and given a choice I did not like. Cancelled my second course and ordered a Pizza. Meanwhile my wife's second course was delivered without the soup. Meanwhile our drinks never appeared. I am sitting now getting ready to take my emergency sugar out instead of my meal and wife finished second course with no paid fir first course or drinks.

When you are at The National Museum of Scotland and are looking for a really nice for lunch then the place that I am about to review is the place for you, and that place is The Museum Brasserie which is located adjacent to the entrance hall on the right hand side. I went to the Museum Brasserie for my lunch today and really enjoyed my New Yorker ciabatta which was delicious and which I would recommend, the only drawback was the rocket that was on my plate, but apart from that I enjoyed my lunch washed down with Irn Bru. I would recommend this place

After a full on busy touring the museum I really needed some food and a rest. To be honest I really didn't fancy any of the food, it wasn't my cup of tea but I tried THC cauliflower soup and it was gorgeous, served with a lovely bun and Scottish butter. Very tasty and filling. The brasserie itself is very calm and relaxed soni felt very comfortable sitting chilling drinking my tea. Will happily visit again.

This is a very nice restaurant in the basement of the museum. We came in on a weekday for a late lunch. As it was a little later, it wasn’t too busy. We ordered at the till and found a table (there were plenty to choose from). Service was fine. We got a couple of burgers and a salad. The portion sizes were good. The food was fine. The prices are reasonable. The cakes looked amazing but, we didn’t have the time or inclination to try them. It is very convenient as the museum is so large and takes all day... it was good to be able to eat on-site.

We’ve been coming here regularly for years and generally enjoy the experience and the staff are always happy and helpful. However I have to say that the soup has been getting more and more watery. Today’s leek and potato was just very poor in terms of taste and texture. Wouldn’t be worth half the £6 charged. Really must improve. Also agree with other reviewers that the forms is chaotic and times.

Visited again in October after a previous visit during the Festival. The food is quite good and is reasonable value for money, however do not be fooled by the menu which they display on their website. IT IS OLD Adults menu does not have available all that you see on the Website and the published kids one is just not available at all and is really poor. Neither are the cost necessarily correct. I complained directly by email to the Bistro and also to the Museum but never heard back from them. At festival time I arrived in time to order lunches for the family who had little time between festival venues only to find the menu was different and I was left not being able to meet the family requests.I can well imagine though that someone would have responded quickly to me had I said I was calling to arrange to donate money - but a complaint - well why bother to dignify that with a response, not too good Museum of Scotland !!

We walked into the National Gallery but the eating-places there were very noisy. So we proceeded to the National Museum, a short walk away. The brasserie is in a lower level of the museum, with vaulted arches of stone, which absorbs sound, and thankfully no background music. This is a gently-lit, calm place. We sat on comfortable couches, and had scones and tea. The scones (fruit, or plain) were big, with sufficient servings of jam and real clotted cream, at reasonable prices. There are also soups and sandwiches. Service was a little slow, as the place was busy on a Saturday afternoon. But we would return, perhaps on a quieter weekday.

I've reviewed this place a few times. I really enjoy coming here and it's a great place for me to catch up on some of my work. I also come here between tours (I'm a tour guide) and this place has never disappointed me. I'm here two or three times a week and there's always a very high standard of service from the staff.I'd say a few things that are important;Staff - always friendly, always polite and always working their socks off. There's a natural turnover of staff and sometimes they end up starting during some of the very busiest times (and please remember that a wet day in Edinburgh, in the middle of the Festival at one of Scotland's largest tourist attractions - which is free to enter - is always going to be a very very busy time). I've got to know some of the staff and they are a credit to the company. You will NOT see staff standing and chatting whilst the place is busy. I've not seen it and I've been there for a long time. They multitask like demons and they're doing this with a multinational staff, in a place where there will usually be a multinational customer mix, of different ages and English reading abilities. Ask them and they will be helpful. I always tip and it's always deserved.Facilities - Clean toilets, good seating and nice lighting. Temperature is usually good although you are in a Victorian building and once the heating wasn't working very well. Once. Standards - everything is kept clean and this is no mean feat given the numbers of tables and potential customers. Cutlery is always very shiny, tables are always clean in the morning and are cleaned as soon as staff can get to them.Food - pricing is good (yes it's maybe more expensive than a wee cafe BUT you should check out the local rivals, the prices aren't 'high' here. The standard of food is good and there's a chef who produces good food consistently. I'm a real fan of their fish and chips. And yes, it's reasonably priced.I'm not a member of staff and have no relationship to the company or staff members there. Having said that, I'm a regular. I'm not a regular because I have to be - there are many many options within a few minutes walk. I'm a regular there because the place is clean, standards are good, the staff are very welcoming and the prices are very reasonable. I wouldn't be a repeat customer if I didn't like the place.

Visiting The National Museum of Scotland is a day long exercise as there is so much to see and absorb. It is very handy to have this excellent brasserie on the museum's lowest level. We found the service to be reasonably quick and very friendly from the mainly Eastern European waitstaff. They offer a very good lunch deal of a bowl of cullen skink (a Scottish fish chowder featuring haddock) and half a sandwich. Very enjoyable

Having purchased a parking ticket we decided to have lunch at the museum to maximise our time there! How wrong. It was incredibly slow service and the food was only ok. The icecream sundae was just a scoop of icecream with no sauce or sprinkles and it was very expensive!

veramente carino, serviti bene, velocemente (anche se era quasi pieno) zuppa del giorno, tipica, ma buona. Ci hanno mandato un cameriere italiano per spiegarci meglio i piatti. Consigliabile specialmente quando piove.

I'm normally a fan of Benugo, who run The Museum Brasserie, but this restaurant really let the brand and the museum down. We tried to make a reservation for lunch by phoning (but the phone was never answered) and by e-mail (but the e-mail wasn't replied to).We went to the restaurant at the time of the reservation in the e-mail I'd sent (14.00 - after the lunchtime rush) and were told that there were no tables available and come back later, which we did. When we came to order the food we were told that several of the items on the (already limited) menu were not available, including the burger than I was going to have. My wife ordered the vegetable soup, and there were no visible vegetables in the soup at all - it was pretty much coloured water. My wife strongly suspected that they were running out and watered it down to make it go a bit further. They had the good grace to accept that a number of people had complained, and took the cost of the soup off the bill. The service was pretty slow, but friendly. We were left in a quandary at the end of the meal - my wife and kids went back to the museum and I was left to pay the bill, but having waited at the table for 15 minutes I wasn't sure if they would bring the bill to me, or if I was expected to head to the till to settle up. Eventually I went to the till and was told that it should have been brought to the table. All in all a pretty poor Benugo experience - I think that the management of the brasserie needs a bit of a shake-up.

Stopped for lunch during museum visit. Order of beef burger and one mushroom linguine arrived quickly and was pipping hot. Beef burger was finely ground which my wife liked and the linguine was very tasty with plenty of mushrooms.Prices were reasonable. The servers were all cheery and chatty. Will use again when in the museum.

My daughter and I ate at the Brasserie recently. We did not have to wait long for a table. The food was excellent. I had a burger and my daughter had the child's fish and chips. The atmosphere of the Brasserie was relaxed and the staff were very good. We tucked into ice cream and cake to finish. A great lunch!

Whilst my dad looked at a new exhibit Mum and I decided to treat ourselves in the brasserie. We both ordered Cullen skink. When it finally arrived it was cold. I sent it back. The waitress (who looked to be a senior member of staff) returned telling us that the chef had checked the temperature and it must have been the bowl then she walked away. It was still cold!! I had to get another member of staff to take it away again. It finally came back hot but with a distinct lack of fish. They knocked 10% off the bill. £1.92 that didn't even cover an extortionate £3.25 for a regular Americano and hot milk. Dad arrived and as he was hungry he ordered a hot smoked salmon sandwich. A ham and cheese arrived. We told the previous waitress that he ordered salmon to be told that we had messed up and salmon was not on the menu. She took the ham and cheese away. Returned with an apology as it was on the menu after all. The hot salmon sandwich with goats cheese on toasted speciality bread turned out to be some kind of salmon paste on bread. £7.95! No goats cheese that could be discerned and definitely no hot salmon. Definitely won't be going again unless the reviews improve. I will say that the other more junior members of staff were nice.

We ordered soup and bread in the museum café for a quick spot of lunch after looking around the exhibits. My wife was happy with her tomato soup but my beef soup brought back memories of a cup of oxo, thin tasteless liquid.Sandwiches seemed over priced and ll in all not the best place for lunch.

If I could leave a 0 out of 5 stars I would , Angus served us and he was the rudest individual towards us Irish girls who just wanted a bottle of Prosecco to start our girlie night out , we spilled a drink and politely asked for blue roll to dry off my table and he said no I then said I please could I have some it’s on my clothes and the blue roll was thrown to me . Absolutely disgusting if we hadn’t of already paid we would have left , so disappointed to see this in 2024 . Disgraceful

Very poor service. Ordered a vodka and coke, gin and tonic, Jack Daniels and coke. We got served by a sloppy, lazy barman with the curly hair and moustache with shirt open to his belly button ( didn't get his name) He used the same measure for all 3 drinks without rinsing in between. Each measure was well short too. At the prices they charge I would expect to have proper measures without having my vodka flavoured with gin and JD remnants. We won't be back.
