We recently had the pleasure of dining at The Bothy, and it was truly an exceptional experience from start to finish. The atmosphere was inviting, the ambiance cozy, and the attention to detail in both the decor and service was impeccable. A special mention must go to Boyana, our server, who made our evening even more delightful. She was incredibly friendly, attentive, and went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect. Whether it was recommending dishes or simply her warm demeanor, Boyana truly elevated the dining experience. Her professionalism and genuine care made us feel welcomed and valued as guests. As for the food, it was nothing short of spectacular. Every dish was beautifully presented, bursting with flavor, and perfectly cooked. The desserts were particularly memorable, showcasing both creativity and fresh ingredients. In conclusion, The Bothy exceeded all of our expectations. If you're looking for a place with outstanding food and impeccable service, this is the spot. And if you're lucky enough to have Boyana as your server, you're in for an even more exceptional evening. Highly recommended!

We visited for lunch. The food was very bland and tasteless. The waiting people were friendly but not very attentive.

Id say more dog "accomodating" rather than dog friendly.. ... Food was pretty decent, albeit I got a phone call an hour before saying I couldn't have the Sunday roast as they didn't serve this in the "dog friendly" areas..... All very weird. Maureen sounded brilliant though, but the person I spoke to sounded very "head office". Hampton next door is much more welcoming. As said though, lunch was decent. 😁

The Murrayfield Bothy is a great place for an informal meal with family and friends. The staff are extremely friendly, and the food, especially the fish and chips, haggis, venison when in season, and the sticky toffee pudding are sublime. Our latest visit converted visiting Danish friends to haggis. Will do small portions. There is quiet piped music, but it is good for guests with hearing difficulties as it is pretty quiet, and the tables are very well spaced apart, unlike many crowded restaurants in central Edinburgh. Very nice ambience. Parking available. Also pleasant outdoor wooden tables and benches. I think that during Murrayfield rugby matches the restaurant drops the food and only serves drinks.

Waited 20 minutes for our drinks, staff were very attentive, but the food is overpriced and very disappointing, the fish and chips were average, ten chips on the plate and a teaspoon of mushy peas and tartare sauce, the burger was so hard you couldn't cut it with a knife far less chew it, the chicken sandwich was like a child's portion, not worth the money, the drinks are ridiculous prices, if u have a spare £200 for a family of 3, then that's the place to go other than that AVOID AT ALL COSTS. And then they add a 10% service charge VERY CHEEKY!!!! Go next door to The Hampton, and save £££££s on your bill.

We sat in the beer garden for lunch. Service was below par. It was quite evident the person serving us couldn't be bothered. He took a drinks order at the table and told us to order food at the bar...couldn't really understand the logic in this and other tables around us got full table service with order and payment taken tableside. Starter was ok, both had Cullen skink, have had better. Both opted for the beef Sunday roast, the beef was lovely but everything else on the plate was a bit sad. Dry roast potatoes, under cooked turnip, no attempt at adding any seasoning or flavour to the veg. Yorkshire pudding was OK but again I've had better. Not a cheap afternoon at £75 for 2 courses and 2 drinks for 2 and have left feeling rather underwhelmed by the whole experience.

Terrible. We arrived at opening time with a booked table, that it was cancelled by the establishment the night before and after phoning it was sorted. Arriving with two little ones, we had to asked for a high chair, after specifying in the booking that we needed one. No menus on the table. When asked for them they told us they would bring them soon. When we ask for the kids menu, the waiter had to go find out. The manager came and said the kids menu hadn’t been printed out yet and we could ask for pancakes with one out of three option: bacon, banana or blueberries. We asked one with bacon and one with bananas, no syrups. The manager then asks for our food order without asking first for drinks. Coffees arrived and they weren’t particularly hot. When the food starts to arrive. The pancakes with bananas, arrived with a little bowl of jam and random fruit in a skewer all covered in chocolate sirup, as I was shocked the manager said the one with bacon doesn’t have syrup but we can change this one. As I had a young child screaming for food we decided not to ask for it to be changed. I ordered the eggs Benedict and they were literally just flung into the plate. Tiny toast, bit of Parma ham, eggs more cooked than poached, and a sauce… out of a jar. My partner had the fry up and even that wasn’t very good. One flimsy toast, at least it was real bread. When finished asked for bill and mentioned we had the locals card. But told it didn’t apply as it was Mother’s Day. Not coming back!

Arrived well before a club rugby match at Murrayfield, waited an age for any drinks to be served to us and when it was the lager was off and undrinkable. The theme of waiting a long time for service continued even though we were some of the only people in the restaurant for the majority of service. The kicker was one of our party being served raw chicken in their caesar salad, something that as we left another diner also noticed the same in his. Finally upon looking at the bill they were kind enough to remove the service charge, however did not remove the inedible chicken salad.

Me and my husband went to The Bothy for Hogmanay dinner and live music. It was a great night where we were welcomed on arrival, staff were very attentive, food was excellent. I am a Coeliac on a gluten free diet, and was really pleased how the waitress explained the different options available to me. So thanks to the chefs for accommodating me. Live music was a guitarist which was ok for perhaps a normal meal or drinks but not for Hogmanay where everyone is in the party spirit. The songs he sang were a bit dull and slow. He did start to sing more upbeat songs but they seemed to all be at the same tempo. When it got near time for the bells the piper arrived. The whole place came alive. I really enjoyed the piper where he played 3 songs including Auld lang syne. It would maybe be better having more songs by the piper, but we still had a really fantastic night. Thanks to all the staff for making this a great experience.

Had a great Girls Xmas night here with a group of friends, however it was all very disorganised and the Staff were very slow and inexperienced. We asked for 2 Cocktails, only to be told that they were not serving cocktails due to expecting a big Rugby crowd to appear after the Edinburgh v Glasgow game. We arrived at 4.pm and the game had only started at 3.pm ! Eventually they agreed to the Cocktails and took the order, however only to be told that they did not have the ingredients for the two chosen cocktails. They had no Bacardi and no diet/slimline mixers. One of us had ordered the Chicken Club sandwich, only to discover when it arrived that there was actually no chicken on the sandwich. We ended up clearing the plates ourselves from the table as they had sat there for so long. We were moved to a 2nd table, as our table was booked for the next sitting. They then advised after 20 mins that we could not sit there any longer and had to be moved again to tables which were not together.

Needed somewhere quiet to work, dog friendly and parking. A short list these days. Popped in to The Bothy. Met by a polite, waitscoated gent at the bar, who delivered Coco a bowl and didn't want an Oscar for the effort. Menu at the table promptly and whilst it is obvious they have new staff, they have chosen youngsters who want it to work. I plumped for the full brekkie and it was lush. no issue changing the order and my poached eggs were poached to perfection. Decent lorne and tattie scone too - no evidence of heat lamp sat on the pass. Super comfy chairs. Good solid wifi. Smiley management. 4 different toast options - good quality butter and marmalade on the go. Just what the doctor ordered. 3 hours on, still here and the flat white was outstanding, delivered by my Indian student waiter here studying at Uni of West of Scotland in Paisley! Bonkers. I will be back. Maybe even tomorrow for more of the same. I've seen the 3.5* review average. Harsh. It's opposite SRU HQ Murrayfield. How can the service be dynamic or quick or uber friendly when 6000 tweeds are trying to get a pint of Guinness. Fair play for delivering what I asked for, and doing it well. And on time and with a smile.

Food was good, served in a timely manner. Drinks were also good with a nice selection. Service left something to be desired, after being serviced at first and having a pleasant conversation with the waitress we were completely left alone for the duration of the meal, no check ins at all. After the plates got cleared we waited 40 minutes at the table while the waitress walked by and didn't look at us, I moved my wallet and card closer and closer to the edge but nothing. When she did bring the bill she ignored my card on the table and didn't speak to us, leaving me to have to walk up to the bar myself to pay, which wouldn't have been a problem if the waitress and the bartender did not argue for 5 minutes and ignore me completely. 10% service charge added automatically for a two top is more steep than I would have paid.

The only reason I’m giving this restaurant any stars at all is their lovely wait staff. Everything else was awful. As a starter, my partner had prawn/crayfish cocktail and I had hummus and flatbread. His prawns were bland, clearly cheap and frozen, the “Bloody Mary sauce” was simply Thousand Island dressing and my hummus was served with what appeared to be cold, stale ciabatta. Our cocktails, which were below average, took forever getting to us, which I thought was the result of the poor staff being run off their feet. However, I suspect it was due to the enormously disinterested barman who moped around behind the bar with one AirPod in. He genuinely looked like he hated his job. Our mains, I had a beef burger and my partner had steak was again, well below average. The burger was fine but incredibly expensive for what it was. My partners steak was expensive, cooked poorly and tasted like it had been defrosted too quickly. Certainly no part of our meal tasted like it had been prepared by a chef. A short order cook, maybe. And the music. So loud we couldn’t actually hear each other speak. Even the waitress had to keep asking us to repeat ourselves. All in all, a terribly costly, bland meal. My girlfriend and I are staying in the hotel. We went down for a drink before going into town and were told by the bar lady that we can't be served because they don't have any clean glasses. She was very dismissive when there were only 2 people at the bar. Could have asked if we wanted a bottle of something instead? Or asked any of the people stood doing absolutely nothing to go wash some glasses? We were planning on eating here whilst staying but I won't spend a penny until we leave. The building/rooms are nice, and the receptionist was very welcoming and lovely to deal with though.

I am writing this review because of the exceptional service from Pat. We came for a meal with two children under 4. Pat made the whole experience relaxing. She was attentive, calming, professional, knowledgeable and couldn’t do enough for us, without being over bearing. The food was very good, but Pat is the reason we’ll come back. An absolute asset. A special mention too for lovely Katie who works on reception in the hotel. Another customer service dream. Well done to The Murrayfield for whatever you’re doing to recruit and keep such wonderful members of staff. Thank you again to Pat (Especially from Xander)

The staff acts as if though you do not exist. We entered the place and waited to be seated, the receptionist didn’t even look at us, we approached her and she seemed to uninterested to show us to the restaurant. In the restaurant, the waiters did not acknowledge us either. We left the place hungry and disappointed.

Really friendly staff who were so helpful. Was such a lovely warm day which helped. We had drinks and burgers with skinny fries which were served outside. Great way to end the day. We live locally and will definitely will be going back again.

Lovely little bar with a great staff. Food was on point and a great whisky flight for dessert

I don't often leave reviews but I had a lovely first visit here this morning with my baby and daughter. It was a very cold December morning so we nipped in to warm up (no booking). We ordered a latte, kids hot chocolate and a millionaires shortbread. Coffee was lovely and strong, kids hot chocolate was delicious (the waitress asked if we wanted it in a cup or a takeaway cup and if she would like a straw) and the millionaires shortbread made in house was one of the best I've ever tried. Excellent hospitality, very friendly and had a lovely visit. Will definitely be back. Thanks.

****please read if you are considering booking this hotel**** I stayed here about a week ago when visiting the absolutely beautiful city of Edinburgh. Although I was amazed at the awe of this city after visiting for the first time, it was an incredible buzzkill staying at this hotel. I am typically a person who goes out of my way to give only positive feedback and give people a lot of grace (especially these days), the lack of professionalism and straight up anger I received from Jack was easily one of the most confrontational and to simply put it, mean individuals I have ever spoken with. My cousin needed shampoo to which he said he didn’t have any and proceeded to type on the computer screen, completely dismissing such a basic request. We are incredibly kind human beings and were completely confused as to why he was so rude off the bat, even using rude to explain his disposition is an understatement. He proceeded to be extremely aggressive and refused to give me a managers contact information and I am actually even questioning if Jack is his real name. In a world where everyone is recorded, I really wish I had recorded this interaction for it was so terrible and unnecessary that I have to speak up for I hope no one gets treated the way we did, in or even outside the hotel. I will say however that Adam was absolutely kind and was the complete opposite energy we received from Jack. The hotel itself wasn’t managed the best, was a bit tired, but was sufficient enough for our stay for a couple of nights and wasn’t worth complaining over. However, Jack should never be working in a service industry let alone speaking to people the way he did to us even outside of the hotel doors. His aggressiveness was beyond mean, exceeded rude, but made both my cousin and myself extremely uncomfortable speaking to us in almost a threatening manner.
