Fish and chips and cheerful service. A wonderful lunch combo. Add a well-poured glass of wine and an Inches Cider and it becomes a nice hideout from the rain. Haddock and chips, one battered and one unbattered (gluten free).

Typical Scottish restaurant, clean and welcoming environment. Varied and tasty food. The staff very kind and helpful. Average prices for Edinburgh, higher than in Italy (sandwich with chips, beer and water 25 pounds)

Lovely place. Fantastic, well trained staff and delicious food. Great place to eat solo as well as in company.

Disappointed with this place. Booked online but it looked as though that didn't work as they wasn't expecting us. Was really looking forward to the food though as we had looked the menu online. However the menu inside was totally different. Neck Oil tasted as though the pumps needed a good clean. Waitress was pleasant enough though and apologetic when we left.

Built in 1432, this awesome pub is one for the ages. History personified. If only these walls could talk. Food was great, the Guinness was great, the experience was memorable.

Just dropped in for a light bite and blown away by the smoked haddock chowder, so rich and creamy! And very reasonably priced to my mind. Friendly and attentive service.

The interior is beautiful, and the food was good. My daughter’s fish and chips were great. The burger was good, but the fish’s breading put it to shame.

The other day my 2 friends and I decided to visit the king wark. Sadly they could not seat us although there was 7 empty tables. Now with all honesty it seems a blessing we didn’t dine here today as we were far better received by the ship on the shore. Wich is just over the road. The service next door is way better. And the food omg!! Don’t spend a penny in this place. Go over the road!! The empty tables speak for themselves

EXCELLENT BURGERS! fresh produce and home cooking Fried Camembert and Haddock Soup are great choices too And the IPA draft beer….top! One of our best dinners enjoyed in Scotland. THANKS !

I have never used Trip adviser to write a review but downloaded the app after my appalling experience yesterday. I write reviews and blogs about pubs all over the UK which have national historic importance. Myself and my wife were staying in Leith over the weekend and I was very keen to experience The Kings Wark as I’d read a lot about it. However, as I entered, an incredibly rude woman came bounding over to me and almost barked ‘we’re full for eating’. I said ‘oh it’s ok, I just want to have a drink, I’ll stand at the bar’. She then rather astutely said ‘we don’t allow drinking at the bar’. I tried to explain that I wanted to experience the pub for my research but she did not want to listen. Has she been on a ‘how to be assertive/ aggressive’ training course or something? It was quite humiliating as some diners saw what had happened and started laughing. I’ve travelled from West Yorkshire and would not expect, indeed have never experienced such shoddy customer service. Unfortunately, I’ve had to write that in my review to my hundreds of followers. I absolutely understand that it was a Sunday lunchtime and busy, but it certainly wasn’t ’crammed’ inside. I guess you won’t be too bothered about what appears to be a sour grapes post but I was really looking forward to writing about your pub. Unfortunately, I am now writing about a rude woman and not the historical importance of The Kings Wark.

The starters were quite small in portion. The standout dish was the avocado salad with crab, which was delightful. However, the main courses were disappointing. The steak we requested to be cooked medium came out well done, and the salmon lacked flavour. On a positive note, there was a good selection of wines. For dessert, we had a chocolate mousse, which was enjoyable. Great service!

Remember to book in advance at this pub located not far from the River Leith. The food is delicious, fish and chips, pea soup, revisited Haggis. Reasonable price and top service. A really nice place outside the typical tourist circuit.

We booked a table and I'm glad we did as they were turning people away as it was so busy, on a Tuesday night. The atmosphere was great, staff very friendly but the best was the food. Very tasty and clearly all homemade, mayonnaise, sauces, biscuits, so good. Service was quick but not pushy. Would definitely come back

I left the lamb meat because it was a bit smelly, but I was able to taste the hagitsu and beer before ordering, and the gentleman let me taste it~ The atmosphere was very satisfying!! I was disappointed to hear that the one menu item I wanted to eat was only available on Sundays~ ㅠㅠ I took a double-decker bus like a drive and went there. A perfect course to have after dinner!

Great service, lovely meal.. Really enjoyed it.. 10% surcharge on bill.. I’m a believer if you want to tip you should have the choice.. I paid the surcharge without question.

A great experience in a typical Edinburgh restaurant. Succulent burgers and successful dishes. The atmosphere is warm and the servers are exceptionally friendly.

Popped in for drinks before going back to our hotel and ended up having a few drinks and desserts after not being offered any at the restaurant we had eaten at. Service was excellent. Think the person was called David. Great host and great friendly service.

Nice place to stop for a wine , good atmosphere and looked like good food

We spent four days in Edinburgh and decided to take tour of the royal yacht brittania, which took us to Leith, about two miles from the city center of Edinburgh. This pub had great reviews so we decided to pop in. They take reservations but it wasn’t overly crowded at noon. It got busy as we ate. The food and drink were really some of the best we had at a pub during our time in London and Scotland. The full size fish and chips was a nice sized piece of haddock and cooked perfectly. My son went for the 0.5 kg of mussels, one of his favorite dishes. They literally came in a huge steaming Dutch oven and were huge. My wife loved the seafood chowder. They have a kids menu which my daughter appreciated. Would highly recommend.

I found there are few dark spot on the salmon，I suspect it wasn’t fresh as I thought it was. Also,when the chef trying to explain why there are dark spots on my salmon,he mentioned they were opened one day before, personally I think it is at least 2days older than that. They were nice enough to cut half the bill because of the dark spots, but I still won’t go back for the rest of my life!

We had dinner, upon reservation, in this typical Leith pub. Although the cost was a little high, it was worth it given the quality of the tasty food and the welcoming and historic environment that surrounds you.

Lovely bar/restaurant Sea trout was excellent. Very reasonable prices. Service was efficient and friendly. Go. Oh and right opposite the river.

Very warm welcome yet at the end of the service and without reservation. The meal was delicious, especially the mussels in cream.

Lovely atmosphere, food was great and service amazing. Special mention to David who seemed to know what we wanted before we did. All tables were full on a Tuesday night. I had the mussels which were plentiful and delicious. Would recommend.

This is one of the oldest pubs in Leith, it was lovely the food was delicious, we were there with our son and his girlfriend and we all enjoyed it thank you.

It was an all around great stay! From the start, the staff is incredibly warm and extremely helpful. The food comes quickly and tastes very tasty. It's worth a visit!

Great service, great meal, very nice place

We are a family with two children aged 5 and 8. The person serving was very pleasant and attentive. We ordered a delicious terrine as well as mussels with equally good fries. The atmosphere is friendly.

Really cool pub in my favorite neighborhood in Edinburgh. Hard to miss as it’s on a busy intersection of riverfront and bridge but it’s a cozy spot to stop for a pint and a snack. I decided to have a flat white and sticky toffee pudding and they were great! A couple cask ale handles and a good looking menu although on the pricier side.

We had a yummy meal at The King's Wark mid-week. We had fish and chips, seafood bowl, chicken roulade starter, and for dessert, we ordered sticky toffee pudding, and the meringue and fresh fruit. We had plenty of food, and it was all delicious. The two guys who served us were super friendly and helpful. For my teenager, it was the highlight of Edinburgh 🤣

One of the best bowls of Chowder I've ever had. The two gentlemen we dealt with were amazing. Friendly, helpful, and a lot of fun to talk to. I would highly recommend a stop at The Kings Wark. A very old and interesting building too.

Great cullen skink and good price on their cocktails. Really good service too. The fish and chips were good, it could use slightly more flavor.

We had the chicken roast and vegetarian roast haggis it didn’t taste very nice there wasn’t much on the plate very over priced for what your getting the desserts where much nicer though staff where very friendly but unfortunately we left hungry

It was wonderful to dive into this attractive looking pub on a wet Monday evening. It was busy but there was a cosy table for 2 with a great view. The food was top notch, service was prompt and good value for money. We'll be back!

Pan fried haddock with haggis and smoked bacon, superb! The venison burger is the best burger I have ever tasted. Mix this with a really good choice of ales and carefully chosen wines and you have the recipe for an exceptional experience. Once you add staff that really care and spend time with the customers you have a five star experience.

Met up with friends on my first visit to this historical eatery. A lovely warm atmosphere and some great food. I had roast sea trout which was delicious! Service was friendly and helpful.

Recently visited for a Sunday roast and it was delicious, staff were so helpful. The sticky toffee pudding was one of the best I have had. Really cosy, already booked again to return in May.

We'd been looking online for recommended vegetarian Sunday lunches without much success. We passed the King's Wark on Saturday and saw their Sunday lunch offerings advertised. Vegetarian Haggis Welkington sold us straight away and we booked our table there and then (recommended). A great friendly welcome from everyone there, piping hot food and the flavours were just fantastic. All the Sunday roast trimmings you'd expect, rich full flavoured gravy and a beautifully flavoured Wellington. A great find.

Great and very accommodating for a last minute large booking. The staff couldn’t have been more attentive and made us feel right at home. Highly recommend for both food and a good drink!

Four of us went out for lunch. We had the chilli prawns and fish and chips and one of us had hamburger with the soup. It was so tasty that I forgot to take pictures! The staff are super helpful and attentive. There was a small mixup with sauces and instantly the staff took it away and said they would take money off our bill which we didn’t think was needed because they were so responsive and fixed the situation straightaway. You definitely need to go here love, good tasting food and very friendly staff!! Definitely won’t be disappointed !

Loved this place, it's now my favourite pub to visit, and guess what? You don't have to eat here, we enjoyed some delicious local beers. Ignore other reviews of unfriendly staff, they are all absolutely lovely and very friendly and helpful to everyone that visited, we saw them helping sime guests with dogs get comfortably seated. Give this place a try, they had a beautiful roaring fire going.

Overpriced. Skinny chips with half & half again fried fish and should of been fat chips. If I wanted Skinny Chip, I would have gone to Mcdonald, and as for a service charge. I feel we should have been asked.watch out for the service charge. Almost £5 , to hand you a plate . Yes, it's Edinburgh prices . I don't recommend it. But who I'm I, to say. Just a paying punter ,who feels robbed....

Great service and friendly staff. But way overpriced this is a pub charging restaurant prices I had 3 small prawns fish and chips still looking for the fish in all the batter, my wife had fish cakes and venison, the fish cakes were two little fish balls no bigger than 1inch in diameter. Lovely desert.

It was a bit cold to begin with as we were near the door. Maybe an effective draft excluder round the door.

Bustling little pub on the shore, good atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff. The food was really good, try the sticky toffee pudding.

The vibes in here are the best. Super cosy and traditional. Stone floor, open fire. Perfect. The staff are delightful too, and they make a good cocktail. The menu is traditional Scottish and everything was very good. Could have had more veggie options, but the veggie haggis wellington was spot on. 10/10 sticky toffee pudding to end with.

Absolutely incredible fish and chips. The service was top notch. Everyone was warm, friendly, and inviting. They have a very nice cozy ambiance. I love that every table is different and unique! We will have to come again before heading back home. Thank you! Update: we went black a second time and it The service was just as friendly and the food was just as tasty. A very warm welcome form attentive staff, relaxed atmosphere. Food was fabulous in particular the smoked haddock - Genuinely best I've ever tasted! A sneaky pinch of the husband's mussels in white wine and garlic did not disappoint. Head away from the centre of Edinburgh and down the Leith walk to enjoy a great meal. Dessert was a delicious wrap!

Had lunch at The King's Wark with work colleagues as it's literally a 2 minute walk from work. We were shown to a corner table by the fire, I'm glad it was roaring away as it was cold outside. Be aware, if you Google this restaurant, it will show you that there is a 2 course lunch menu on offer. The waitress told us that was wrong and out of date. We avoided starters, and ordered main courses. I ordered the Homemade Beef Burger with fries, Monterey Jack Cheese, Smoked Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato Relish in a Brioche Bun, while my colleagues both ordered The King's Wark Famous Beer Battered East Coast Haddock, that came with Fries, Garden Peas and Tartare Sauce. The food was excellent and well presented, My burger had a nice texture and was perfectly cooked. My colleagues both gave a big thumbs up for their Haddock and fries. For pudding I had the chocolate tart, with strawberries and strawberry ice cream a perfect end to the meal.

Came for lunch, had a great Butter Chicken Curry. Service was excellent & very attentive. Highly recommend!

Had dinner here the night before flying from Edinburgh. The staff offered to keep our flight cases behind the bar which was a really nice touch. Mussels and haggis bon bon were nice for me and my partner and her mums venison dishes looked great. Good atmosphere and staff. Would go again!

Best service I've experienced in a bar in a long time. Staff are so lovely and actually seem like they appreciate your custom. Didn't have drinks as it was a pretty rough Sunday but the food was brilliant. We both had the venison roast which was delicious. Can't wait to visit again, perhaps on a Friday or Saturday evening.

I don’t know wether we came on a bad day, but the food wasn’t to the standard that the other reviews would suggest. The venison roast dinner arrived cold, and the portion size was disappointing compared to the vegetarian wellington. The service was okay, but the bar was cold and even the waiting staff were wearing their jackets towards the end of the meal. There’s plenty better options within Leith for cheaper, to be quite frank.

We visited the Kings Wark for lunch with our youngest son on Thursday. What a lovely place !. We had the small fish & chips and a curry both of which were excellent. The staff were extremely polite & helpful and made for a fantastic experience. We’ll definitely be back to sample more of their lovely food and beverages.

Great place. Like arriving in an old cosy tavern. Really tasty Scottish food. Mixture of fish and meat favourites. Really friendly service. Felt very well looked after.
