Visited for a browse and breakfast with family. Lots of renovation work happening, causing some delay. All breakfasts came out and were cooked well, although one egg yolk had been damaged and hidden under beans. Had to ask gor our drinks and were informed by a friendly member of staff that they are coming from a different section. Once arrived, 5mins after the meals the tea was extremely weak. Obviously poor quality tea bags. After tryingvyo brew it we asked another friendly member of the clearing up staff for another teabag to strengthen/improve the tea. We were absolutely shocked to be told that we should purchase the teabags to improve the inadequate tea.. the poor staff member was embarrassed to relay this message to us and recommended we bring our own teabags next time.

Order a tea and fancied a carrot cake to accompany the tea. Service was extremely easy ordered at table and arrived quickly. Very disappointed with the cake slice size for the price on the small side. The frosting on the cake as inedible too much butter and that’s all I could taste. I thought it would have been cream cheese and icing sugar but no it was a butter icing with very little icing. I should have just ordered a scone.

We had afternoon tea in one of the outdoor pods to celebrate my mother's birthday, and it was a lovely experience. The pod was very warm to begin with, but we turned the heater off and opened the window and it soon came down to a pleasant temperature. We were a group of 7, and despite our fears about it being a bit cramped in there, it was spacious enough. The afternoon tea itself was very nice, with nice sandwiches, unlimited tea and coffee and a good selection of cakes/sweet treats. I thought it was good value for money too, and having the privacy of our own pod was really nice. We couldn't hear anyone else, and it was nice and quiet. I agree with some of the other reviews that the pods could perhaps benefit from a little foliage, but that is only really a minor point. The service was excellent throughout, friendly and attentive without being overly familiar or overbearing. It was a really nice experience and I'd certainly go back.

I felt it needed some foliage, flowers etc - it would give the diners some privacy aswell as making it pretty and more appealing.

Two heaters were turned on a hour before we arrived so was lovely and cosy. The chairs sturdy. The table nicely decorated. Fairy lights on inside and outside. The food was everything I had hoped it would be. The Tomato and basil soup I could have drank a gallon, it was sooo good as was all the food, tea and coffee. As a headteacher, I have high expectations; however, I also know what school dinners taste like do I have a good spectrum of what is acceptable at different levels… I love good food amd nice environments, but I understand mass catering and value for money. This afternoon tea was neither good food nor value for money. So let’s start with the good:1. The pods themselves are lovely. Totally isolated from everyone else and perfectly private in that sense. The Christmas decorations were nice and there was Christmas music playing. They were warm enough and pleasant. 2. The staff were accommodating and were very friendly. 3. The pods were accessible for our wheelchair and spacious enough for six of us to have more than enough room.Unfortunately now for the negative:1. Quality of food: The food was average at best. The scones were hard, seemed a few days old. (I wouldn’t serve them to guests at home). The brownie was also dry. The mince pies were typical supermarket standard. The sandwiches were made of typical sliced white/brown bread. 2. Presentation: it was not presented as you might think with a fancy tray of sandwiches followed by cakes. No. It was presented per person. One circular slate each - presented in half. One half had a sprinkling of icing with desserts on it; the other side had sandwiches3. Quantity: 4 tiny sandwiches on one half of a slate the size of a regular dinner plate - not full sandwiches but 2 squares no bigger than 5cm (2 inches) square - ham and cheese. A third was a finger sized sandwich. The fourth a piece on A gem lettuce with a few prawns and a slither of smoked salmon. The other side had 4 desserts - a rather old brownie, a tiny thimble-full of Prosecco jelly, caramel cheesecake and a tiny mince pie. Then 2 tiny scones with clotted cheese and jam. 4. Value for money: appalling. This was £30 each. Absolute robbery hence why I have taken the time and trouble to write this review. Don’t waste your money.

We booked this as a Christmas treat and the experience just wasn’t all that. The pods themselves were nice, although the cutlery was dirty and had dirt on the faux fur rugs which you sit on. The food - for a child’s brunch the pancakes were dry and looked hard. My son didn’t enjoy his. The pancakes, avocado and salsa were disgusting, I almost threw up when I got home. The food inside the actual restaurant looked far better - so if you’re looking to book one of these pods, I wouldn’t bother. For the novelty it was OK, but maybe a little overpriced for what is canteen food/afternoon tea in a pod.Pods are nice, could have done with a little more lighting. At night the view out the pods is the very bright canteen or a fence so you done feel you are anywhere special. The all you can have tea is great, but could have done with more attentive waiting as there is no other way of trying to get someone to get your next pot of tea without going in search of someone inside. For the food it was OK, not bad, but nothing special. A little more savoury volume would have been nice. I’ve been to similar priced afternoon tea where the sandwiches and scones are also unlimited. If the pods serve as a way to dine when restrictions are in place then I’d say it is worth it, otherwise it’s perhaps not.

The kids breakfasy was just sugar, if i had realised this is what would be served for a child i would not have booked (crepes, chocolate sauce, smarties, marshmellows!?), also the adults food was covered in icing sugar, bacon and sausages served cold, hot drinks were cold. The igloo itself was warm and decorated nicely but no music played inside it so it was oddly quiet, i ended up playing christmas music on my phone. The staff were rude, when i arrived i tried to show a lady my confirmation email on my phone and she barked at me "i dont have my glasses on!"This was so expensive for such a disappointing experience. I went with 3 friends for breakfast and we all had the pancakes option. I wasn't a fan of this. There was also muesli. It was very expensive for what you had. There wasn't a lot and I didn't think the pancakes with avocado was the greatest food. The coffee was bought before the food with the juice which meant it was cold if you drank it after the meal. I also thought that it was very disappointing that you were only allowed one coffee and yet, if you had tea it was unlimited. For the price we paid each I thought that was a mistake. Very expensive! Each person got 2 finger sandwiches, not even 1slice of bread each . Egg sandwich’s were dry and looked like they’d been made hours ago . Bits missing off some plates . They were provided when we asked for them but even so , not rocket science! There’s no way of contacting staff , you have to wait until someone happens to walk past ! No spoons provided for soup/ jelly/ cheesecake things.Although the pods did have fairy lights around the floor and a small electric fire there were very few finishing touches . The pods each had 2 Christmas trees outside but they had no lights or decorations on. I’ve been to a few other Christmas afternoon teas at local garden centres and they’ve been a lot better than this . What particularly annoyed me was that each person had 1 hot drink included ! 1 coffee OR hot chocolate OR tea! Rip off! How much does it cost to provide teas and coffees. I wouldn’t choose Ruxley again . The Twig and Spoon do an amazing Christmas afternoon tea for the same price and you get unlimited tea/ coffee and a lot more food that was all fresh £25 for this below

We did complain and was made some fresh sandwich wish were much nicer. So the complaint was handled well. The beef watercress club sandwich was laughable. About 2 inches wide with a tiny slither of bread in one layer which was fit for a dog and a tiny watercress leaf in the other. All you could taste was bread. They must have got about four peoples quota out of one sandwich. The egg mayo finger sandwich was missing off my slate. One spoon given for the soup and 2 deserts. The waitress said people usually clean the spoon with their mouth and use agin!!

We had a pre-booked afternoon tea in one of the outdoor pods / igloos. Arrival was a bit frustrating, as the email said to present at the Mulberry Tree but there were no staff at the entrance and it was difficult to find someone. We were then asked to find a table until the pod was ready, which was around fifteen minutes after our arrival time. We’d booked a pod partly to avoid being in a crowded indoor space so it would be nice if there were an outdoor waiting area by the pods perhaps. The afternoon tea itself was brilliant. The pods were really cosy and we loved the little finishing touches with a small fire, Christmas decorations, music and Christmas crackers. Everything arrived quickly and we all had our own slate of delicious treats. The kids really loved their mini afternoon teas, and the adult one was huge with plenty of variety.Service was good - we were left to enjoy in privacy but staff checked in at regular intervals to make sure everything was ok. We popped to the Christmas shop after to grab some baubles before heading home, and would definitely book this again next year.

We booked a pod for a Christmas brunch. Unfortunately my daughter in law was unwell so couldn’t attend but they kindly boxed her food up for me to take back to her. The staff were lovely and the pod was great my only gripe is after taking our hot drinks order everything came together. We didn’t get our juice either which should have been served first and we paid for cold drinks as we didn’t remember that it should have been given to us. It would have been better to serve the cold drinks which we didn’t get with our waffles and then a bit later have the hot drinks bought in to have with our croissants. I hope that this is constructive feedback as I would like to come again next year as it was a lovely way to start the Christmas season and look around the garden centre at all the beautiful decorations.

Staff were engaging, very polite & catered for our needs. Food was lovey - a good variety and the soup and Prosecco jelly were a hit! The food was also well presented. The pod was cosy and with the addition of xmas themed music and colour coordinated decorations created the right ambiance. We enjoyed our time!

We were served by two cheery and helpful ladies, who appeared rushed off their feet due to staff shortages. The food was very good, although the scones were more like rock cakes. Notice had been taken of an allergy and a suitable replacement was given. The food is beautifully presented on individual slate plates and contained a wide variety of cakes, sandwiches and even a cup of delicious soup. Special praise for the prosecco jelly. The pods are well heated and had soft Christmas music playing and quality crackers on the table. It was a great experience.

The pod was great, food was lovely but agree with previous reviews of not enough sandwiches & too many desserts (although they were delicious). Did feel that £25 each was a bit expensive.xx

Family of five and a lovely, warm, well-decorated pod. Very festive! Great table service and my daughter with food allergies was well catered for. I agree with other reviewers that you need more cutlery and also more savoury stuff in the adult menu - maybe a sausage roll in addition to the sandwiches and one less cake. Very nice though - one of my daughters was so sad to leave. Magical for kids. Thanks especially to the lovely staff.

Had a lovely afternoon tea with friends in one of the pods - service was very good - only a couple of things - more cutlery could have been provided as only one knife and one teaspoon - also we felt more sandwiches and less cakes would have been better - food was good though.

We had afternoon tea in one of the winter pods to celebrate an 80th birthday- Weds 17/11. Service was faultless and the afternoon tea was delicious. Had a lovely selection of cakes and sandwiches served on a slate plate for each person which was a nice touch not sure if that was due to space or covid precautions. Couldn’t have asked for more. Well done !

So I got served by a lady who said I couldn’t have the children’s meal because it was too early. But I couldn’t have the breakfast items as I was too late. Then I ordered a SW and an extra portion of chips. As I shared with my mum. So I ordered an extra portion of chips but I could not have them as there on the same menu as the children’s menu. But the sw itself came with a few chips. The system is confusing the menu is confusing and the person on the till not at all helpful. Then I ordered drinks and she left one off. So I had to go up and get that. To be honest the food was cold as was the coffee. A very poor show. Won’t come in here again. The food and drink is way overpriced. The service is poor. Food is barely mediocre. They have made it look nice but that should enhance the experience. Much better before lock down x

Came here on a Saturday morning for a nice full English, waited around 30 minutes for the drinks, I ordered an large iced latte but asked for no milk as I’m lactose intolerant, was asked by a member of staff to clarify, I said just make it like you would a normal iced latte but add water not milk. It came in a cappuccino cup with three ice cubes and so much syrup that it was undrinkable. When I asked the staff about it they just shrugged and I just asked for a can of Coke as a replacement. No refund or anything was offered, then we waiting an other ten minutes for the food and it was the most disappointing breakfast I’ve ever had. The eggs were cold and hard, mushrooms stone cold and raw, beans had been out since last week, hash browns were found at the bottom of someone’s freezer; and to top it all off you have to pay extra for toast but in all honesty that was the best part! Over all an extremely disappointing trip but you best believe we struggled through as for two of us it was £25!!!! Please don’t waste your money here like we did

The Mulberry Tree @ Ruxley ManorVisited 18 August 2021Not a good experience.Girl at the ordering counter seemed to have problems hearing what people were ordering. Not just me, but from other people also. Scruffy serving staff. Drinks/food brought out by a bloke on shorts, at the prices the Mulberry Tree charge. Waiting staff should be smartly dressed, and not look as though they had been dragged in from the gardening. No butter came out with the scone (had to ask for it). Completely wrong cake (couldn’t be bothered to complain) . Kids orange juice served, when fresh orange juice ordered (was changed on request). No serviettes.About time to go back to the pre-covid system.

My Family & I, before Covid, would regularly eat here and then it closed and had a refurb, so we were all excited to eat here today, the first time since. My Wife is a vegetarian and ordered the Plant Base Burger for her main. The burger came out and my Wife started to eat it. With her first bite she wasn't sure on the texture so I tried it too. We then spoke to a waitress to question whether the burger was definitely a vegetarian burger and not a meat one. The waitress took the burger and checked with the chef and confirmed our fears that the burger was in fact a meat one. My Wife has been a vegetarian for 28 years and was extremely upset. The manager was called and at first only some drinks were offered, then just my wife's meal was to be refunded. The experience completely ruined out lunch plus the distress it caused my wife. Eventually, after checking with the company MD, a full refund was given. The manager was apologetic but the system is obviously not working as during the course of our meal, 3 X further dishes/drinks were offered that wasn't even our order. Please be aware when ordering the vegetarian options, double check as the Head Chef and staff are obviously not!!

Poor service, slow to place the order, slow to deliver, ran out of an item, took ages to deliver a single item from the fridge, all slightly more understandable when its really busy, but it wasn't that busy, I would say only around 30%-40% occupied. The rocky road, which we eventually received was very good, but overall a poor experience because of the awful service.

Visit today with my mum for breakfast. We ordered at 10.36, and did not receive our breakfast until 11.25. Eggs florentine and scrambled eggs on toast, should it really take that long. The eggs florentine was nice, but the scrambled eggs on toast, a disappointment . I do prefer the new ordering system, but waiting for the food to arrive is awful. You get your drinks long before your food, and then have to queue again if you would like another drink with your meal. I wouldn’t rush back now, but had good experience’s previously.

We ordered 3 pancake breakfasts, they come with bacon maple syrup and a egg. When we ordered we asked for WELL DONE bacon and the waitress wrote it down as i noted she had. When the food came out we said to the member of staff we asked for the bacon to be well done, the person who bought the food was not the same person who took our order. So the young gent took the food away and came back to tell us his manager said thats how the bacon is cooked so what do we want to do? So we said we’d like to speak to the manager. So “Jo” the manager came to our table with a serious attitude problem clearly thinks she’s important even though we are the ones parting our hard earned cash, she just looked and stared at us like she didn’t what was going on, so when we told her, she said well thats how it is, and when we asked for it to be cooked longer she said well the bacon isn’t raw, we never said it was it wasn’t to our taste, she turned round and said well what do you want me to do as thats how it is cooked, so in response we asked are you unable to cook it for a few more minutes? Apparently not, our tastes are wrong and we should have accepted it the way it was.In the end she gave in and went away to remake the breakfast from scratch now, as we had been waiting so long. The second breakfast was fine and exactly how we asked for it to be done, so I don’t know why she came out with her stinking stuck up know it all attitude when all she had to do was stick of bacon under the grill for a few extra minutes, we then find out she is the owner of the restaurant, how on earth are you in hospitality with that attitude. I will not be going back any time soon, i wont be lining the pockets of a company that is run by someone like that.

Had eggs florentine for breakfast but the egg white was still raw. Returned to counter for new plate. Probably can guess that next plate had overcooked eggs. Also the hollandaise sauce was a mere teaspoon (no joke!) on each egg which made the whole dish very dry and bit tasteless. Picked up salt to enhance the little tast it had but this was empty and noticed the hole on the bottom of the pot was sealed with what looked like chewing gum. Not going back there anymore to spend my money.

Afternoon tea was exactly as described on their menu and compared to other places was excellent value for money which gave a good selection of savoury food and cakes. Only two out of the 5 eating managed to finish their share the remainder was taken home in boxes. As much coffee and tea as was required was delivered as needed. Fiona the waitress made frequent visits to ensure we were happy with the food and to see if further coffees or teas were required. We would go again.

Oh my goodness, what has happened to this fish bar?? Used to go there every Friday before I moved away from Biggin Hill, but what a shock I had last Friday getting fish & chips for my elderly mother. Slow service with miserable faces, very dirty uniforms being worn by the staff, hair not tied back fully on one of the girls serving. Also, a very young boy helping behind the counter, which surely must be a Health & Safety concern with all the boiling fat!!! Safe to say, I won't be returning to Salisbury's Fish Bar, Main Road, Biggin Hill again :0(

This place has the potential to be a nice pub but based on my personal experience, we will sadly not be returning. It was a sunny afternoon and we decided to come to Downe Village for a nice pub lunch. I noticed there were people eating inside and nobody was seated outside. With it being a sunny day, we thought nothing of it and decided to sit in the beer garden. Within minutes of our food arriving, a black fluffy cat jumped onto the table, stuck it's bum in my face and started eating my food! I tried to shoo it off but it wouldn't budge and I'm allergic to cats. When I went inside to tell a member of staff, her response was "it lives in the garden. Just shoo it away." But it never went away so I went back inside again to tell them and it took her forever to do anything about it. By the time she came out, the cat had eaten half of my food. I appreciate there's not a lot they can do but atleast come out and pick up the cat and take it elsewhere if a paying customer complains they're allergic! Not only that, when I got home, I checked my card statement and noticed they had taken 10% service charge which wasn't shown on the receipt (only food and drinks.) I think that's rather cheeky considering there was no table service - we brought our own food, drinks, cutlery and condiments to the garden table and afterwards I even took the dirty dishes back with the cat's leftovers. A very disappointing visit.
