The Mughal Knight in St Edmundsbury

Lively place, good food served very quickly, interesting menu with new/different dishes, friendly staff. Byob policy is great.

We arrived at the restaurant when it was empty and was seated at a table where there was an issue with the lights. These kept flashing on and off every 30 seconds. The staff knew it was an issue, but only moved us when we asked after the starters. The starters were really disappointing. The Nazakat - described as tender pieces of chicken, weirdly came with a coating of cheddar cheese, not mentioned in the menu. We scraped the cheese off, but it made the chicken quite unappealing. The pakoras, presented like four orange poos on a plate with a squiggle of brown stuff, were soggy - the batter wasn’t crispy at all. The lamb dhansak was ok, but the spicy chilli chicken was nicely spicy, but very acidic and the chicken was chewy. We both agreed that the star of the dish was the naan bread, which was beautifully fluffy and light. We’ve heard good reviews of the restaurant, but won’t be rushing back.

Yesterday evening with my partner Anne we had the great pleasure of dining at the Mughal Knight. The restaurant was full and buzzing with the sound of people enjoying their meals and the conversations with their co-diners. As always the quality of our food was excellent, as was the service. Without doubt, the Mughal Knight must be amongst the best “Indian” restaurants in the country, and we are very fortunate to have such a gem in Clare.

Fantastic food and very attentive staff. It’s always nice to see Zak and Nabin. Best Indian locally. Highly recommend.

This is a terrific restaurant with excellent food and service at reasonable prices and with the added benefit of bring your own alcohol with no corkage charge! Would not hesitate to recommend.

We regularly have takeaways from these guys as they have a fantastic Vegan Menu. The food is always lovely & to eat in with the added service made it even better. The meat dishes are also really nice & they went down a treat with the meat eaters too👍 Thoroughly recommend a visit where you can take your own refreshments! Was extremely disappointed with my take away on the last bank holiday. The usual deliciopus curry was not there this time. I ordered a prawn madras whiwas very thin a quite tasteless Pilau rice which was fine mushroom bahji goot onion bahji which was tastless and oily. What on eartth happened.

All round excellence!! The waiters were very friendly and professional. The restaurant was beautifully appointed and spotlessly clean. This was the best Indian food we have ever had. The presentation was superb and portion sizes perfect. Can’t fault the place. What more can we say.

We are so lucky in Clare to have this gem of a place. The Bangladeshi and Indian dishes are a cut above, delicious, fresh and beautifully cooked. The chef/ is very good and gets flavours so wonderfully. The staff are professional, charming and just the right level of attentiveness. They are lovely and helpful. Attended the Rocker Sal Show put on at the restaurant this week, it was brillilant evening with a lot of diners joining in the singing and dancing after a really tasty meal.. I really can’t believe that Veronica G went to the same restaurant and was so disappointed in, that we went to last night. The staff were superb, food amazing, in such a really great atmosphere you could tell that everyone was of the same opinion. We have been there so many times and have never once disappointed. This was a very disappointing evening. As we were on holiday, to celebrate my husband’s birthday, I had spent some time reading reviews before choosing The Mughal Knight. The waiters were lovely and the starters were excellent. However, the baltis were not. They were very acidic. I ate mine but did not enjoy it. My husband was unable to eat his. We asked for an alternative and my husband then enjoyed the biryani. I was shocked to find that we were expected to pay for three mains when only two were consumed. The manager was very unsympathetic. He offered to parcel up the unwanted balti so we could take it home! I’ve only just noticed that the positive reviews have come once a month in the last five months. I wonder how many other people have been disappointed…?

We placed our order for collection at 6:30. They told us the wait would be an hour and a half. When we arrived at 8 we were told to take a seat. We had to wait in the restaurant for an hour to collect our food. I appreciate it’s Covid times but an hours wait for collection isn’t acceptable. Unbelievably good. Arrived on time (in Cavendish), piping hot and absolutely delicious. Jalfrezi and bhuna spot on. Matar paneer up their with the best. Even chucked in some free poppadoms. Would highly recommend.

This is the best Indian restaurant/ takeaway in the area. I drive a 40 minute round trip to pick up their takeaway because it's worth it and the onion bhajis are still crispy by the time I get home! The food is delicious, good quality meat and very reasonably priced. Takeaway customers also get 10% discount when they collect! The staff are always eager to please. I would definitely recommend.

My wife and I eat there quite regularly and always find the food to be really top quality and the staff very welcoming. In a small country town it is great to find such good food. The traditional Bangladeshi dish called Shatkora using special limes is excellent and there is a good range of all the usual dishes plus some more specialised ones. Great food and value.

We had just moved to Yeldham in Essex 3 months ago ( we had no idea where it was either ) and wanted to go to an Indian Restaurant to celebrate our 51st wedding anniversary but we had no Idea where we were so I googled Indian Restaurants and found there was one in Clare about 10 miles away so I made a booking, I had forgotten how dark everywhere is when there are no street lights so we left early with the sat nav ( that does not get much of a signal out here ) to find where we were going to eat but although in some places the speed limit was 60 miles an hour I only managed to do about 25 in the dark and only just made our booking in time.

Amazed to find this excellent restaurant in a little, out of the way kind of town. Great service. Attractive, simple decor (very different to what could be described as a typical Indian restaurant). Food was very good indeed. We both had thalis, which were good value. We were so impressed that we went back the next evening! Having never seen a vegetable tikka masala on offer, I had to try it & wasn't disappointed.

What sure what’s going on here, we’ve being going to The Mughal Knight for a number of years and it’s always been good, but tonight was the exception.

My wife and I were looking for Sunday lunch in Clare and found the Mughal Knight. The food was excellent, service very good and the restaurant comfortable. The food was very well prepared and tasty, the menu is extensive which made choosing a dish very difficult. We arrvied towards the end of their lunch period and they closed while we were there, but we didnt feel any pressure to get out of their way. The prices are not the cheapest but you get what you pay for. Highly reccomended.

Visited on Jan 10th this yr (2019) with friends. Not for a sit down meal this time,to pick up our take away. First take away since changing hands,we usually have a sit down meal. Always someone there to open the door for you,service is 100% perfect,staff are friendly and knowledgeable about the vast menu typical of a lot of Indian restaurants. My favourite food as there's always a great choice for vegetarians,wether you like it hot and spicey or milder. Quality and quantity of food here is always good,even our take away for two was enough for four people (didn't get wasted,came to work next day and provided us with our lunch). The interior hasn't altered but didn't need to,it's classy,tidy, spotlessly clean. You never have to wait for long either,the service is fast and efficient. It's top of my list of places to eat. Clare itself is well worth a visit,lovely atmosphere,beautiful buildings,some good shops and a little museum. There's on street parking for the mughal Knights and a great car park in the country park a few minutes walk away.

We live locally so visit regularly and have always enjoyed our food here. Zak and Nabin are always friendly and welcoming and recently we went along to their 50s and 60s music night which was fantastic. The restaurant was full, the staff were busy and very attentive and we didn't feel rushed. We are already looking forward to the next one.

We read the reviews and wanted to try something different from the usual 'tikka massala' offerings in Indian restaurants. Our starters were fine, one each of king prawn and chicken nazakat (described as "pieces of chicken grilled and spiced" which arrived with a cooked cheese topping (this could be an issue if lactose intolerant). However, this was not a problem for us personally.

Well worth travelling as the food was really nice and full of flavour and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, will deffently be going back.

Even though the restaurant began to fill rather quickly (we arrived at 6.30), we didn't have to wait long for our food. Also very reasonable costs. Al in all an enjoyable evening.
