Spice Garden in St Edmundsbury

Overall a very pleasant evening. The service was extremely attentive and we were greeted warmly. I asked for the wifi password as there was no signal and wanted some way to receive a message in case of emergency and I did feel that the excuse of it ‘not working’ was a little unbelievable. The king prawn butterfly dish was absolutely terrible. Burnt and almost inedible. The rest of the dishes however were very nice. They did say they were short staffed so it was possibly a blip.

Service is absolutely brilliant. Food was very tasty and the Naga curry super spicy. Lamb could have been more tender though. Everthing else spot on.

I have visited many times over the years with family, and the food is incredible! I've never been when it's been full dining in, but the volume of takeaways on Fri/Sat can affect the speed of food service significantly when dining in. Staff overall are attentive, but one particular member of staff does rather slam cutlery and drinks around, spilling my beer on the table and myself most recently. The food is excellent. My favourite is the Lal Ghost. Never disappoints with smokey, spicy flavours. Sides are all delicious as well, having had many from nans, rice, and potato based sides various times.

Best Indian food we’ve had in a long time. The garlic and cheese stuffed naan holy delicious…the Malabar Curry is a must.

The food was very brightly coloured red/purple (lamb dish and a chicken dish) and had far too much sugar in it as did the side dishes. Very odd tasting Indian food. The flavour should come only from spices.

Worse curry ever had, asked for the chicken tikka masala, tasted like a korma stained red with a ton of sugar and coconut cream. Far from any authentic curry tastes. £4.50 for a pint of Diet Coke. And £7 for 2 rotis. Absolute waste of money and the worse curry I’ve had

Tried Spice Garden just for a change from our usual place in Bury. A bit grotty inside. Small portions. Vegetables and pickle tray not fresh. Also expensive. Won't be returning.

Dont live in the area but a local recommended this indian glad he did it was delicous and very reasonable . Food hot and very tasty try the chicken cham cham lovely.service very good we would return.

Ordered the butter chicken, with vegetable rice. Tasteless the chicken was tough to cut, tasted like it was from a tin! The only thing I enjoyed was the poppadom.(which you can’t really get wrong) Will not be returning!!

It was absolutely delicious. We are on holiday and was milking for a gluten free eatery as we were let down at the local Pub. We haven’t had curry for about 10 years and had missed it! They were prompt, the flavours were 🤤 the communication was fab, went out of their way to cater four spice wise. It arrived hot and my fussy gf 8 year old loved the korma and coconut rice! Thankyou

Friends have ordered from here before and raved about it so we all went out to try it last week. I will never go back. SO disappointing. We waited over an hour and a half for a fairly small order (table of four, one main dish each, sharing rice and naan). Everything was so incredibly sweet that it was almost inedible. The butter chicken people rave about is basically a pudding! I do have to say the tadka dhal was very good but that was the only part of the meal I enjoyed. Despite waiting for so long, no apology or even acknowledgement was made by any of the staff. We became increasingly irritated as tables who arrived half an hour or more after us were receiving their food! We didn’t tip and won’t be returning. I find the five star reviews very confusing. On the hunt for better Indian food…

Poor service nice food over priced in my opinion

One of the best Indian restaurants I’ve ever been to. I have dined in and ordered takeaways on at least ten occasions now, and the food has been excellent each and every time. The high standard is maintained across all dishes. I would particularly recommend their Butter Chicken, Chicken Cham Cham, and the Dansak. Tandoori options are cooked to order and are delicious. All full of flavour and arrive piping hot. Could not recommend the Spice Garden more.

We ordered a takeaway, waited 30mins after the time we were told it would be ready!! Then part of the order was missing and we had to go back into town to pick it up. The food was not good, no veg in the veg curry and very little spice!! Never again!!

Wow. It's one of the best Indian meals I've had in ages. The food is wonderful I would suggest the garlic mushrooms on puri for starters and the chicken chilli masala is hot but tasty as hell. I live in Ipswich but I would definitely travel to BSE again and again for a meal at spice garden.

They do charge you a small amount to pay, but it's worth it

By some distance the best Indian Restaurant in Bury St Edmunds. This is now our go to Indian. The food taste fresh and has some innovative tastes and is the only locally to serve Cobra on draught. Highly recommended

This is my second visit here. Looks like chefs changed as food was no near to the first one. Coke was served from large value bottle and wasn’t cold or fizzy and charged £4.50 for a pint. Service was okay but no atmosphere.

We are visiting the area and were surprised at just how many options there are in Bury St Edmunds for an Indian Takeaway. But very pleased we chose here as the food was absolutely delicious, the best takeaway we’ve had in ages. Not a scrap left on our plates. Wish we lived locally as we’d definitely be back!

I booked a table at this restaurant a few weeks before the date my partner and i were going ,I added a polite note/message asking for a nice table as my partner and I were celebrating our 4th Year Anniversary. On the evening we arrived ,we were shown to our table which was stuck in a pokey little corner with very little space and so close to another table for 2 which felt VERY uncomfortable and when we sat down ,I was just looking at a wall,this was not the nice table I had politely asked for,we were both very disappointed so that was a bad start . Even though they were not that busy at that time ,the waiter came back 4 times in less than 10 minutes to see if we were ready to order our main meals (we had ordered poppadoms and drinks almost immediately ),we like to take our time browsing a menu so we felt rushed.When we were eventually ready to order ,I needed to ask some questions about some of the food but I couldn't hardly understand a word this Male waiter was saying ,his English language was so very poor ,I kept saying I'm sorry but I don't understand what you are saying ,after a few minutes ,another waiter took over and we could understand what he was saying but why let a waiter serve people if he can't talk half decent English , unbelievable . The poppadoms came out quite quickly but it was slow service for main meals coming out ,when food arrived ,it was hot enough but one of the 3 dishes,a lamb passanda (which I've enjoyed many times at other Indian restaurants )had a very unpleasant taste to it so neither of us could eat it ,the chicken korma was just ok and the prawn dish was passable ,rice was nice .During our meal ,the couple who had been sitting next to us left and 2 guys sat down next to us ,having already finished their meals & were finishing their drinks after being moved from another table where they had been sitting ,I could hear them saying how annoyed they were that they felt rushed by the staff and I said to them ,my partner and I had also felt very rushed . We didn't tip at the end (we normally do if service and food is good)and we came away so disappointed and it had spoilt our Anniversary meal having been given such a very poor table, ,feeling rushed ,poor service and some of the food so unpleasant to eat ,the other dishes just passable .We really cannot recommend this restaurant at all and especially not if you are a couple who are celebrating something,just wish we had left and gone somewhere else but it was a Saturday night so we may not have found anywhere nice with a free table ,we should have booked up Orissa Indian restaurant (which is only a few yards away from The Spice Garden) again as the service is superb there as well as delicious food ,a shame our special evening was badly spoilt by The Spice Garden.

Took my 8 year old son out for a curry here! It was lovely! Very friendly staff, food was amazing! My son is the curry lover not me! But got help by staff on what i should order and it was amazing! Definitely going back! My son said its a 10 out 10 which does not happen often! But I would agree!!

Amazing meal. Faultless in all respects. I had Chicken Dhansak and my husband had something called Chicken Kolapuri, which the waiter advised was one of their creations.... Oh my!!! It was absolutely delicious. Sadly we were the only people in the restaurant (Monday) but this place deserves to be full.

Never had chicken like this before, really tough and dry, even had trouble cutting it, threw it away… Had better supermarket Currys. Tasted like it had been microwaved to death! First and last visit.

Ordered 3 different meals for my wife , daughter & me . Special biryani , Chicken tikka Masala & chicken tikka Korma with rice , poppadoms, onion bhajis. All three meals were very tasty . My one & only complaint would be that the biryani could of had more in the container as I felt more could of been put into it like all other takeaways we have been to . But a lovely meal & very friendly staff . Definitely worth a visit .

The restaurant was not busy so the service was very good. Menu could be better in saying what is included and what is not. We ordered too much food as the waiter encouraged us to add more items. Having said that, the food was great, and portions were generous.

We had a really nice, spur of the moment Sunday evening meal here. It was walk in- we didn’t need to book. After the obligatory popadoms we settled for the butter chicken, a chicken bhuna and a Chicken Tikka Cham Cham. I had some of the bhuna and the Cham Cham. Both were delicious. The Cham Cham had a nice smoky flavour with subtle heat not too hot. The bhuna had plenty of onion and a nice heat. Service was friendly and efficient. We will be returning again

So, ordered a takeaway, repeated what we wanted. Husband collected. Two short of what we ordered. Restaurant worker, took no responsibility, said we'd paid for the 5 we ordered, when in FACT we ordered 7. So, no rice and no roti. Just make do and get on with it attitude. Okay, after so many blunders, either eating in or takeaway. Last order.............we are out... No more crap service accepted.....it's the last time we enter the restaurant or takeaway.....bye bye

Dreadful takeaway. Dry chicken, and a *lot* of hardly cooked onions as main ingredient. Prices have doubled compared to a couple of years ago.

To be honest. I felt that the food was massively overpriced. Maybe this where we are with the energy crisis. However, the restaurant was busy and nowhere near enough staff. If you go leave plenty of time and be patient.

A Saturday night early evening and they are already very busy so that’s a good sign. No problem squeezing just two of us in. Prompt service although the restaurant turned out not only to be busy inside but was heaving with take away and delivery orders too. A good menu with some interesting specials, good friendly service and a fair price. My only criticism would be the level of noise and the fact that with so many deliveries and take aways coming and going, sitting anywhere near the door is chilly.

Sensational experience. Probably the best curry we've ever had. The Spice Garden special was incredible, my biryani was delicious and very generous. Everything beautifully served and even the sides were amazing. Also a lovely atmosphere, comfortable seating and attentive service without being intrusive. Highly recommend this restaurant.

It was chosen mostly based on good reviews and it did not disappoint. All the usual dishes and a few variations all cooked extremely well. Nice staff and service.

The food here is absolutely fantastic, their choice of spices make the dishes deep with rich flavours and well balanced heat. A delight on the pallet. I would recommend the Lal Gosht

Poor customer service! The waiter told us we must eat by a certain time. Then slammed plates and cutlery down on the table . When we complained about the very poor service we were laughed at by the staff ! Will not return.

Took a friend here Saturday 27th August 22 on some lovely food in the past. Firstly the restaurant was hot and air conditioning not turned on. The food was super poor. I ordered butter chicken. It was by far the worst dish I'd ever eaten....

Not many Indian restaurants get 5 stars from me but this one earns it easily. Great menu, superb food, not only perfect flavours but served hot, not lukewarm, it makes such a difference. Great central location, close to good parking..Starter pickle tray poppadoms as good as it gets, and the Chicken Jahlfrezi was as good as I have eaten anywhere, full of flavour, just the right heat and extremely tasty. Friendly attentive staff, even the boss came over to say hello and asked me how the food was.. I'll definately be back on my next visit to Bury St Edmunds no question. 10 out of 10 up there with the very best.

1st time of using this restaurant, I wish I never had.. I ordered a vegetarian bhuna, with pilau rice.. Absolutely disgusting, no spice, no flavour, tasted and looked like dry vegetable soup from macro. It was from a tin in my honest opinion, from how it was presented and tasted.. Certainly not worth the time or money.. Certainly won't be returning as I'd prefer a microwave meal to this awful mess.

Table for two booked for a Friday evening. Pleasant staff and surroundings. We had stuffed pepper, veg biryani and chicken tikka main with roti, bottle of house white. Everything perfect and left like the pepper. Stuffed.

Great menu, everything seems to be very fresh tasting - dishes really well flavoured and spiced. Great quality. Not one dish seemed greasy which has put us off at other Indian restaurants in the past.

Edit from my initial review when we had unfortunately received very poor service - obviously an off night. Decided to give these guys another chance because the food was great despite the otherwise poor experience. I'm glad as food is amazing. Do yourself a favour and order the chicken jalfrazi 👌👌

Wonderful from start to finish. The welcome, the service and the food, could not be faulted. The restaurant is comfortable and stylishly lit. We had a wide range of dishes all of which were hot and tasty. The staff were simply brilliant. We all left suitably fed and watered. We'll be back.

Food was cold, don't mind waiting an hour for it but when it arrives cold, unacceptable, and especially at their prices. Not my problem if your driver's didn't turn up, then dont offer delivery especially at those prices 😡the one dish we ordered was supposed to have prawns in it and there were literally none in there, was just a few pieces of chicken and lots of sauce, none other ingredients they quoted on the website were in there.

Ordered our first takeaway from spice Garden as just moved here. It came much quicker than we expected as reviews all intimated that delivery was slow. Flavours very nice and most enjoyable. Only problem we had was our dhansak was not chicken tikka only chicken. Definitely order again.

Went for dinner with friends. We was greeted with a very warm and welcoming atmosphere. The interior was beautiful. The staff were wonderful, the manager/owner was extremely helpful with recommendations on food and he was not wrong!!! All in all a fabulous night was had....

I would say this is the best restaurant in the town. We visited there in a busy weekend and the staffs were very welcoming. The young boys did a superb job. Though our food was late but it was worth waiting. Specially the waiter named...
