New Maharajah in St Edmundsbury

We booked a table for 6.30 as we needed to be in the Arts centre for 8 o’clock, table wasn’t set already , they brought out poppadums that were stale ( yesterdays I reckon ) , we ordered within 5-10mins , not a difficult order just 5 curry’s and rice , no side orders to make it easy After chasing twice was told will be 10 minutes, so at 7.40 when it still hadn’t arrived ,we had to leave as we would not have time to eat it . We were the only people in the restaurant at the time ( can understand why now ) and the phone didn’t ring once for any take away orders .

The worst food I had in my entire life. I ordered one Chicken Tikka Masla and one Chicken butter gravy dish. When tasted, it was horrible. By name jts tikka masala, but in reality it didn't have any masala in it. Instead of putting spices and indian masalas, they just put in orange food colour along with lot of sugur, so that it looks like so spicy by its color but in reality it was just paste made with orange colour and sugur and tomato paste. When tested butter chicken, got to know that it contains same chicken meat with orange colour and the paste of sweet coconut powder. It felt the whole dish was made using coconut powder and sugur paste. Literally speaking, the dish didn't have any butter or smells like a butter. Never ever recommend this indian restaurant to anyone. It was just waste of money.

Place has gone downhill, minimal drinks, we were offered a choice of 3 cans of drink!. The tables had dirty table cloths and the chef smelt of cannabis ! Avoid if you value your health , what was a fair restaurant is no more !

Visited in July 20-23 they didn't sell alcohol said you can buy from the shop down the road but he sent someone out to get it for us, meal was awful never again they where busy that night with a large party but one serving the meals ,he said they where short of staff

Ticked all the boxes for a no-nonsense, generous, flavoursome Friday night curry takeout. Great job, team Maharajah! Had to wait a little longer than advised but that was all good. It meant we knew it was freshly cooked. Loved the fact it wasn't swimming in oil (a frequent personal grumble with Indian takeaway). Really tasty dishes & warm, friendly staff too.

Food was delivered on time but was missing one of our meals. We were offered to come and collect which we refused because we paid for delivery. The missing meal came in the 20 minutes as promised. If the problem is that they’re short-staffed then it seems like the problem has been going on for a while based on other reviews!!

20/30 minutes late when they hadn’t noticed our order and told we should have spent our voucher elsewhere!

This is flagging up delivered at 19:40! Why was I ringing the restaurant at 20:00 to find out where food was? If it was ready at 19:40 and delivered 25 mins later, that might explain why it was luke warm at best. Will not be using restaurant again.

It's great to have a nice Indian takeaway in haverhill again hope you get the sitting in back up and running

The only downside was that I didn’t know what Papadums were, turns out they were popadoms so couldn’t fault it 👍🏼

Biryani was just a pot of rice with a seperate pot of sauce. Mixing them together just turned the rice into a mush rather than a restaurant style Biryani. Also a vegetable Malayan dish had chicken chunks in it .. did not go down well with the vegetarian who ordered it Korma, Pilau Rice, Pompadom/pickles, naan bread and onion bhaji were all good

After a couple of let down meals from other restaurants in the area, I tried this place and am very glad I did! Excellent food, delivery on time (even on a Friday night) great stuff will definitely order again.

The onion bagis were disgusting, inedible. They were either off or not onion? Disappointing as usually my favourite part of meal. Went in the bin

I have ordered twice from this takeaway. Both times I ordered and paid for lamb meals but both times they delivered chicken instead. The first time I assumed was a mistake, but not twice.

Our New Years Eve curry was the best we’ve had from any where in years.

Well where to start ... Ordered a takeaway from this lot via just eat had a delivery time of 7.05 pm confirmed now I know it’s new year eve ... they deliver everything by taxis ... we in lockdown so no one is going anywhere by taxi so they freely available... so when our takeaway didn’t arrive by 8pm I tried phoning ...constantly engaged ... when I finally got through at 9.15 pm I was talked down to a very arrogant young lady.. she even blamed me for ordering via Just Eat .. don’t get me started on them .... any way it finally arrived at 9.30pm went straight in the bin ... disgusting cold under cooked ... 2 points of irony ... our daughter who lives in Haverhill takeaway arrived 5 mins late and Just eat app said my food was delivered at 7.10 pm !!! Have deleted just eat app !! We have a some nice pub/restaurants ... around here that are struggling... these idiots allowed to stay open wont be having anything more to do with this lot ...Appalling

Leann I had to cancel the order as already 2 hours late and I have children I need to feed. They told me it would be 6:45, then 7:30, then 8:20 then another 20-30 mins from now! The young in the phone slated me to the owner (which I heard) when I asked to speak to someone else! Please refund me!

Haven’t received order but says it been delivered ruined evening want my money back discussing

Used this restaurant for many years and their loyalty scheme. Really fell down during lockdown, did not use our full card, free meal, as we thought this would help them in a difficult period, come October were told, in no uncertain terms, no longer accepted. Just shows loyalty means nothing.

The food arrived 45 minutes late and was cold. The food tasted nice but was very expensive for what it was (£43 for three mains, two rice, three onion bhajis, four samosas and a slice of bread.

Pre ordered dinner . Food still turns up 2 hours late and stone cold , asked to be issued refund told I had to take it up with just eat !

I ordered from a previous order I’d done didn’t think anymore about it, then when I put it through and paid I realised it had all gone up in price . I understand you have to put prices up but nearly everything was doubled . We won’t be ordering from here again .

Didn’t mind about the late delivery in these strange times, and food arrived hot. Only criticism was the main dish, tandoori mixed grill, was over cooked, not a massive issue I guess, but it was incredibly salty, ease off on the salt.....we couldn’t eat it to be perfectly honest, but the naan breads were amazing!!!

Forgot items again second time ordering with them and for the quality of the food it’s far too expensive! Wouldn’t recommend.

An hour late was cold, delivery driver knew it was late cause pretty much chucked the order at me & I rang restaurant over 10 times to chase up the order and no answer to calls or voicemails.

Amazing food that never fails to disappoint. Easily the best Indian in Haverhill. Delivered within 35 mins, still boiling hot. Delivery driver was also extremely friendly and a credit to your business. Keep up the great work from one very satisfied customer. All the very best!

Food ordered at 7.30, told due 8.30. Updated to 9.15 after feedback it was late. Called at 9.15, told was out for delivery, would be 10 mins. Called 9.45, told was still on hotplate awaiting driver. Arrived 22.10! Food was cold. One rice dish missing. Massively disappointed

Can not understand the negative reviews this restaurant has received. We have had 5 deliveries from this place since January of this year and lockdown or no lockdown the quality of the food has always blown us away. The curries are authentic and there's not a hint of grease to be found. Fully recommend the fish dishes in the house specials, the thali is great for those who want to try a bit of everything. I have discovered the pathia and will never look back! Word of warning though the vindaloo and ceylon are so so hot we almost cried eating them. Would not order a curry from anywhere else in Haverhill.

We have just started ordering from here. Our other go to Indian had gone downhill. The food is amazing. Its delivered earlier, it's hot and tastes amazing.

Unfortunately the food was cold - lukewarm at best. We were missing a rice dish and the lamb in all curries was very chewy. A positive was that it arrived on time.

Ordered at 6:30 with a 2 hour wait, with the current circumstances this was understandable but we still went ahead and ordered. Food was finally delivered at 9:25pm after 4 phone calls with the restaurant. Food was cold and some of it inedible. Second time we’ve ordered and received cold food which is a shame as they have always been our favourite in town but probably won’t return again.

10mins delay in service whilst I had to stand outside. Also more vegetables than meat in some dishes - 3 pieces?? That's not enough for the money we've paid

Ordered a takeaway meal today and was very disappointed.all food was cold and the chappati and naan were stale. Meat portions were extremely small. My daughter ordered chicken and chips which looked awful and was almost inedible. Will never use these again. Very very poor

Took 1 hour 45 minutes to arrive after 2 phone calls asking how long it would be. Finally turned up and everything was cold. Most went in the bin won’t be ordering again. The beer we ordered was warmer than the food. Has gone down hill from last time we had food from them. Don’t waste your money

sadly, one of the worst curries I've ever had. I can understand why it would need heating as it was 45 minutes later than promised. but it was aweful. I ordered one of the house specials which cost more but honestly tasted like chicken in tomato soup.

Best Curry in Haverhill town! Lovely staff and the food is top noch! Highly recommend this place! We will defiantly be returning! :)

Tried this restaurant for the 1st time and although the food was nice the after service treatment was dreadful to the point where we will not be returning. Firstly the banquet offer on a Sunday was not offered to us therefore we were charged full price for all courses and secondly on requesting the bill we were informed that the card machine was not working therefore cash payments only. ( tax fiddle obvs) We were told there was a sign behind the bar which stated the card machine was not working even though we were never told when seated at the table. Who visits a restaurant and other than looking to see if they accept cards on the door and to see if the restaurant is open, who else looks at anything else other than the menu. Manager came who was not at all helpful, would not recommend this restaurant and will certainly not visit again.

Placed a take away order at 7pm . 2 phone calls later and got the classic “ it’s 5mins away “ , yet it’s 20.34 and STILL no food !!!!! Wished I’d read the other reviews before placing my order as it seems this is normal practice. My advice DO NOT order take away from this establishment!!!!!

We went for dinner tonight and although the deal is cheap (£9.95 for popadoms, starter, main with rice or plain naan and a soft drink) the food was below average. Starters were quite tasty but clearly microwaved as mine was hotter than hell and we could hear the microwave dinging in the kitchen. The main was completely tasteless and the meat was so dry I couldn't eat it. I'm sure it must've been reheated several times. The staff were ok but never smile and one sneezed out in the open next to the plates and cutlery without covering his mouth then proceeded to handle the table wear. Table cloths and menus were all dirty and we were charged for the drinks that were supposed to be included. Overall, a disappointing experience.

Totally useless, food took hour and a half , called to check on delivery time and was met with a rude response. We ordered vegetable samosas and they delivered meat (plastic box said veg), only found out when bitten into. Paid for all chutneys, pickles and onion salad. Balls’d that up too. Popadoms were stale and chewy. Have been using this place for years but lately it has gone downhill, time for a time I think 👎

Me and my mates meet up a few times a year and we always finish with a sit down Indian meal,tonight two of us went for a vindaloo/madras we asked for it not to be too much hotter than the madras it was absolutely spot on, clean, nicely cooked,a real treat, thanks to all the staff, an enjoyable experience for all

My partner and I decided on the spur of the moment to go here for a meal...attentive service, prompt service and I was not disappointed...my chicken malayan was absolutely delicious, soft chicken and the tasty sauce was like sweet velvet on my tongue. The keema naan was piping hot and very authentic and we both agreed the best we have tasted for a very long time. Reasonably priced too...we will be going back very soon.

Good food, reasonable prices, cosy atmosphere.

I am not overly fussy but being served with the waiters's fingers right in the middle of my rice really put me off. I said something about this to our waiter (he has a stud in his ear) and he clearly took this amiss. He said something which I could not understand, flounced off and returned with another plate of rice with his fingers in it again. I ate it deciding I probably would survive but the sight of his hand in it!The food was mediocre at best, the decor has seen better days but I know it would be expensive to update it. We were given a table at the back where the kitchen door was constantly slamming. We escaped as soon as we could.I feel sorry for Haverhill that this is their most highly rated Indian restaurant.

If you're looking for an authentic Indian meal in town this is the place to go. By far the best Indian food in Haverhill and the waiters always serve with a smile. Top venue!

Tried this Indian Resteraunt out last night and enjoyed it very much. The service and staff are excellent in a warm cosy environment. The food can't be bettered anywhere absolutely 100% wonderful! It is very inexpensive too! Just one word of slight warning it is a little cramped as there is not much room.

Ordered a chicken tikka Masala meal with special fried rice last night food ready on time they even rung me to tell me it was ready to pick up and they did say could I hurry up they might close early if not busy well my only issue was don't say closing at 12am if that's not always the case apart from that the food was lovely

Will not be using any more, the food may taste nice but i don't want to have to wait the whole night waiting for it to arrive, if you can't handle take away meal orders, then don't do take aways. Your delivery times are laughable. Ordered on line at 18:30 time now 19:45 and still no food.

Took our friends here for an evening meal. Food was great and arrived very quickly. Great portions and lovely flavours and colours . Will be back very soon.

We decided to order online at the last minute and were advised we had to wait 90 minutes this was a glitch, we rang and spoke to a very helpful gentleman who called me straight back and said to collect in 30 minutes, perfect. We ordered chicken shakooti, chicken tikka lababda, lime rice, prawn purée, peshwari naan and poppadoms. The 2 mains and rice,we had never tried before and were absolutely delicious,the chicken shakooti was one of the nicest Indian style meals we have ever eaten, absolutely delicious. The portion size was perfect, the food hot and excellent value for money.
