Hurrah! Lockdown is eased and we celebrated with a dinner for two at the fantastic Muddy Duck. The Tasting Menu was even better than last time and at the amazing price price of only £45 for 5 courses (and we sneaked in an addition shared cheese course). The staff are delightful - Friendly, attentive and responsive but never intrusive, and always willing to explain a dish or help with a choice of wine...The Chefs are top notch with an attention to detail and flavour that make your palate sing...... and the atmosphere is warm, comfortable and enjoyable. A buzz of happy diners but not noisy. It all appears so effortless (although I'm sure it is not).We just need an excuse for a return trip soon.

First time visiting this relatively local pub/deli/resturaunt. Despite a mix of purposes this place knows how to deliver fantastic food, prepared by someone who obviously knows what thye're doing! Each course was well balanced, creatively presented and beautifully cooked. I can't wait to return and at such a reasonable price I will do so very soon!We didn't opt for the wine flight instead opting to buy a reasonably priced bottle of Sauvignon. I really recommend this place, it is a hidden gem where most local pub's attempts at being a gastropub fall flat this place sets the bar.

I have eaten at the Muddy Duck several times and wanted to book a table for 10 (from two households) for a 50th and 21st birthday celebration. As half of us live in London and the other half in Birmingham this has historically been a good place to meet. However, when I called the restaurant to book, they said they weren’t taking bookings and that we’d have to turn up early on the day to try and get a table together. I explained that one of the family members was disabled with dementia and partial blindness (in his eighties) and that we couldn’t just turn up but they still refused to help us. I am sure there must be some disabled people’s rights to stop this kind of thing happening but beware if you are in a similar situation to me!

First time visit to The Muddy Duck, nice seating area outside but we decided to sit in the pub, nice greeting at the door and shown to the tables, on each table was a green card to say that the table had been sanitized and when we left we turned it over to red so they knew it had to be cleaned. Menu was limited Pizza, salads and a few other bits. Pizza was very nice and we finished off with a Banoffee Tart which was amazing and was recommended by one of the staff. Staff were very friendly, attentive and followed social distancing rules. The shop that is attached to the pub sells a wide range of Bread, fresh meats, fresh veg and Deli products to name a few is well worth a visit. Would definitely return.

The steak box was good value, although they don't make it entirely clear that the wine is not included (it's not), however they did call me to clarify this which I thought was good service. We drove for almost an hour in eager anticipation. It was not to be unfortunately. Really disappointing as the restaurant and pizzas used to be first rate. Visited The Muddy Duck for lunch today and was very disappointed. When we arrived no one came to greet us and we had to go to the bar to get the menu. Then again when we wanted to order we had to call the waitress over. We felt the choice was very limited. I ordered the Thai curry which looked nice but something in it tasted very bitter which spoilt it so the waitress said I could order something else. I ordered Fish & Chips which was nice. When the bill came they tried to charge us for both meals! Overall we felt the service was poor and the food average.

Four of us went here today for lunch, this was our second visit. We really like this place the staff are excellent and the food always good. Today we were offered a special of Pan Fried Halibut with Fondant potatoes and samphire. We all decided to order this special as it sounded so good and Halibut is a beautiful fish. When it arrived it was nicely presented but sadly the Halibut, which was basically three small pieces, was overcooked and extremely dry. The fondant potato was also hard. There was one Scallop served with it and this was beautifully cooked and tender. The price of this Special dish was £32 (which we weren't told at the beginning). This is a lot of money for a mediocre sized portion of poorly cooked food. Such a shame. The starters (two whitebait and one calamari) were lovely and the desserts (one pistachio Creme brulee, one brownie and one plate of assorted petit fours) were also extremely nice.

I’m a big fan of the Duck and routinely recommend it to others but this trip was disappointing. Something was different on our trip today and it wasn’t as enjoyable as normal. My main course arrived too early (we were still eating our starter) and the waitress was not keen it take it away. When it re-appeared it was clearly the same piece of fish, not freshly cooked and the mushy peas crusty and tartar sauce oddly warm!! Normally the fish is fresh and hot; my meal felt re-heated and at £16 felt overpriced. Ps mushy peas and tartare now new recipes...sorry but I loved how you used to take!

We had drinks on our table minutes after ordering, I had ordered the Hake and my partner the Game Ragu, the plates were hot, the food was delicious, you could see the detail in every part of the dish. What was really refreshing to see was, how busy the restaurant was, but how every staff member seem as if we were the only ones there, there was only a small staff force on and the general manager and again so refreshing to see the general manager rolling his sleeves up and pulling his restaurant together. Friends took us here and it was my first visit and I’d heard good reports over the last few years, so I was looking forward to it. Firstly the waiter who served us was excellent. However, he sold me cauliflower and curry soup (which I’ve made myself and eaten in other establishments) when it arrived it was very orange in colour, there was no taste or texture of cauliflower or curry! It was more like squash or sweet potato (nice might I add but not cauliflower and curry). I questioned the soup and was told someone else had a similar thought earlier!! My risotto was lovely but a bit too much going on......the crisp cavolo Nero was enough on top......the three large over charred slices of butternut squash on top weren’t needed and the charred taste ruined the dish. 2 others in my party had the fish curry and were told numerous times about its “heat” even offered coconut milk to cool it! Well, more heat in my hot water bottle lol. A very bland dish indeed. On leaving we were given a card with a free starter and drink on next visit ?? Our friends may use it as I can’t honestly see me rushing back. Our visit was dinner on 12th October........perhaps you could check the soup on offer that night.

Come on Muddy Duck, what has happened? We have visited this pub many times but over the last year or two things have not been up to standard. We had overseas visitors and decided it would be nice to take them for a walk and out to lunch. We sat outside where you go to the front bar to order from the bar menu. We opted to choose a variety of starters and share. There is a selection of about 7 starters none of which we were particularly enthused about but anyway. The corned beef starter which we wanted was unavailable so 3 of us thought we would have the scotch egg, smoked haddock and mayonnaise. Only two were on offer!! It was not what we were expecting when it arrived - the smoked haddock is the filling for the egg, small size and cost £8 each. The finally tally was 5 Starters, 2 small chips, side salad, 2 coffee affogatto and 2 drinks each cost........... £127 without service. Was it worth it - we didn't think so.

Our starters were nice, we had the scotch egg and the Scallops. My wife had the duck shepherds pie for her main, it was presented very well, nice and simple although we both thought it could have been less dry inside with just a little tweak of some intense sauce of some sort. My Guinea fowl kiev was good, not as good as my wife's home made version but definitely not the worst I have had. To finish, we shared the peanut bar which was actually my favourite dish, it was so full of flavour and the ice cream that came with it was perfect too. Fish & chips now a rather pricy £16, although the fish was lovely the chips where diabolical. Horrible stodgy taste as if the had been left on the pass to long. The corned beef hash was just a mess of tasteless stodge, hollandaise sauce very thick & salty with a piece of cold over cooked bacon. Corned beef pale & insipid. On this form won’t be going back. Every so many weeks/months we travel down from London and take my mum out in the country for a nice meal and she always picks something she would never buy or cook for herself at home. Coming to the Muddy Duck was another new dining experience as we’ve been to some of the other local country pubs a few times each now. First impressions were good, what a fabulous place, beautiful gardens, outside seating areas, funny little touches regarding ducks. Starters were all good although think mum was a little overwhelmed by the super sized chicken livers and she hates to leave food if we’re paying as she feels she’s wasting our money. Maybe a little less chicken liver and not such a doorstop piece of bread would make more manageable. Main courses - my partner had duck which he said was great. Both my mum and I had sirloin steak and this was a huge disappointment as they were really tough and chewy. I don’t eat steak very often so maybe a few months since I’d had steak but I found myself unable to chew it down and having to discreetly take it out of my mouth and put to one side of my plate. I could see my mum really struggling and I don’t know how it feels with false teeth but she doesn’t normally struggle. I could see she was immensely disappointed after looking forward to the treat. I don’t think we’ll be having steak if we come back, maybe the outdoor oven cooked pizza will be an option. The chef was very accommodating as we asked for a simple salad for our 12 year old daughter with cheddar cheese although I think this then developed into a variation of one of the menu options (with watermelon) but because they then went and drizzled it with some sort of mint dressing she didn’t eat it because she didn’t like it. They should have just kept it plain and simple (a lot of kids generally prefer plain foods) with any dressing on the side. Service was very good.

On the way home tried this pub after seeing reviews on trip advisor. We arrived towards the end of service so we’re not surprised that a few meals were unavailable. Food was good , however we felt it was over priced for what we received. Pub is in a great setting with a lovely dining area outside.

Hethe's local is a favourite port of call on trips between Milton Keynes & Oxford - today was no exception! A very pleasant and satisfying pint of Timothy Taylor Boltmaker, a very nice Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand, and a well-cooked and nicely-presented burger with chips and trimmings. Utterly satisfying in a pleasant ambience with good service. Wonderful!

The quality of the food, as always at the Muddy Duck is exceptional, but do not like the new concept of tapas style of food, not a good idea to serve that type of food like tapas, it just doesnt work. Sorry. The staff were excellent, ambience good but would not rush back - the lovely fish stew has gone from the menu? The waitress told us fish n chips and burgers are coming back as we are not the first to say this. We noticed the waitress taking ages at a large table, obviously really difficult to take a tapas style order for large parties as people will be dithering about what dishes to have. Come on Muddy Duck return to the good old days, the menu that made you popular and my trip from Mixbury worth it ! Our fave restuarants to re-visit time and time again from where we live are: Baraset Barn, Stratford Upon Avon and the Saxon Mill at Warwick.

As an extended family we have been visiting the Muddy Duck for many years. Historically we would have rated it 5 stars. We have always appreciated the quality of the food, the service and the varied menu although over the years we feel the menu choices and more recently the menu structure have declined. There were always distinct restaurant and bar menus, both were delicious, although it was always slightly annoying that we couldn’t mix and match. On Saturday we went for lunch and were extremely disappointed with the new menu. We love tapas style / sharing food but the menu misses the mark. For lunch there is really no single dish that constitutes a meal (sandwich, ciabatta, burger etc.) so one needs to order 2-3 dishes each, which would be fine if each was more reasonably priced. £20-30 for a light lunch is a bit steep. It’s almost as if it was specifically designed to make you spend more than you need / want to.........Conversely, if I came for a more formal meal the choice would be underwhelming, although I would have happily paid a premium. We complained and got a reduction based on poor value but that’s not the point. For new visitors the food quality and ‘novelty‘ menu may please but for established customers it is a big disappointment. £9 for 3 small pieces of smoked salmon is preposterous. I really want to love and recommend the Muddy Duck like I used to but currently I can’t.

We went to the Muddy Duck after a recommendation- the menu had recently changed to encourage a sharing/tapas style meal. It was really nice. The staff we friendly and attentive but not overbearing. They were happy to help navigate the menu and make recommendations. The food was good, the beetroot and feta tart, the kedgeree and the lamb and mint croquettes were particularly good. The bill was very reasonable and we would go again.

Having been a visitor here for many years it is so disappointing to see what has been done with the menu. The tapas theme is confused and ridiculously overpriced for what is a village pub. The final straw was the plaice goujons and chips ordered by my daughter which was £12 for 3 goujons and 5 chips that arrived in a mini tin pot. I honestly don’t know how they can serve it with a straight face.

Called in for a glass of wine and beer after a family walk in local woods. Was horrified when we got the bill of 96.55 .They charged for full pint of beer for a lemonade tipped with beer. And as for 9.30. for a glass of wine. On the positive side the pork crackling was gorgeous.will not be returning at those super rip off prices

The service was excellent, the ambience was great, the food was OK.

This used to be one of my favourite restaurants and a regular venue for my fathers birthday. He loved the menu and the ambiance.

However, I have to say that we were not a great fan of the "Sharing Plates" format of the new menu.... so sadly will be finding an alternative venue for next year.

Would be great for some I'm sure, and there are great vegetarian and meat options. It just didn't work for us.

I had spring lamb noisettes , cheese board and coffee . As a local resident , I was horrified not to have my usual burger , no longer on the menu ! With coffee and a soft drink , it was a highly reasonable bill . The others all feasted with alcoholic drinks etc. The flavours were spot on , the competition in the area for foody pubs is quite fierce . Well done my local for ‘staying ahead ‘ with a delicious ‘expect the unexpected ‘ menu well worth trying !

We have eaten here before and that evening was special, great food and service. We were excited to be visiting again for Sunday lunch and introducing our friends to this lovely place. The venue is lovely, staff were polite. The Sunday lunch menu was incredibly limited, I made do with a starter and side dish, neither were what I wanted and the eating of them didn’t change my mind. The Sunday roast portions are generous, however the bavette steak was tough and chewy. Cannot recommend with such a limited Sunday menu and steak pricing off the chart! £55 for a sirloin steak!

My friend and I have eaten here a lot over the years, for lunch on a Saturday, and have always spoken highly of it, the staff and the food, we have eaten in the restaurant and also, the bar. But today, was a bit of a shock, they have changed the menu to one that is like a tapas menu. We took a little while to read and take it all in, and a member of staff explained to us the different dishes. So I Orderend plaice goujons, Jenga chips, pea mayo, priced at 12.00. My friend ordered a beef dish, and we ordered a Caesar salad. Well, my dish consist of 4 plaice goujons about 3 inches tall, and 4 thick cut chips. For 12.00 so that’s 3.00 per goujons and a chip. We really were not impressed at all. There is no other menu even if you eat in the restaurant. I found it very overpriced for what we had. When we went to pay bill, I did say that I thought my dish was overpriced, but no reaction, no discussion, no nothing, just took the money. For me, I liked the old menu, where you knew, you could get a nice meal, be it in the bar or restaurant, tapas not for me in this establishment.

Sadly the change of menu style is not to our liking. The Belly pork portion was starter size, over cooked and not good value for money. If shared, as suggested, would have been one mouthful each! The veg and puddings were very nice although the asparagus was not cooked enough to bite through with the dip. We have had much nicer food here previously.
