I had an amazing time celebrating my birthday at The Mount last week. We hired the private room upstairs, which was just perfect for a special occasion. The staff were amazing, so attentive and really made my day feel special. The food was incredible, I’ve have eaten there many times for special occasions and it is definitely my favorite restaurant in the West Midlands /warwickshire area !

Excellent food again, good range of drinks and friendly service. The only regret was that things were quite quiet at Saturday lunch – though we'd failed to make a booking for Sunday lunch, so there are busy times.

Went for a second visit this time for Sunday lunch as we had previously been in the evening. I had the roast beef and my husband had chicken. The food was very good although the gravy let it down a little ( I feel this is an important part of a Sunday Roast dinner) and the cauliflower cheese although very tasty was quite dry. We shared a sticky toffee pudding with salted caramel sauce - nice enough but not outstanding - and the caramel sauce was too salty. The waiting staff I think are lovely and I love the ambience of this place.

The Sunday lunch was disappointing. The beef was beautifully rare but had no flavour and was stringy, the blunt knives didn’t help. My Yorkshire pudding was stone cold and the veg was Luke warm although the serving dishes were nuclear hot? Overall I wouldn’t recommend and won’t return for Sunday lunch.

Learning that Glen Purnell owned this restaurant, we arrived expecting something a little bit special. The restaurant was empty so we opted to sit in the bar area. The cutlery was quite dull (some was stained) and a tumbler for water had water stains. I checked the menu before making a booking and saw that there were some interesting fish options. Unfortunately that was the summer menu that had been changed several days earlier and the website hadn’t been updated! The only option was a starter of smoked salmon or cod and chips. We both shared a starter of Camembert with GF bread (which was white sliced, slightly crisped but nothing special.) We opted for steak which was good and cooked as requested but it was served only with bog standard fries and a small flat mushroom marinated in a sweet vinegar dressing. Our peppercorn sauce lacked depth. Only one of us had dessert. Together with two medium glasses of red wine at £7.50 each, four glasses of water and a hot drink we paid £135 (including a 10% service charge.) It’s not the money, It was just a basic, village pub with only two staff on duty front of house - one was a bar man and the other our waitress (that we had to alert to our arrival as she was in the kitchen!) She did serve us well though. Overall, the venue, and menu options were too basic to warrant the final price. We were celebrating a birthday. We have previously enjoyed much better food options, service and ambience at The Bluebell and at The Chapel restaurant in Edgbaston Birmingham, both great independent restaurants.

I am writing to express my deep disappointment with my recent order from your restaurant. I ordered chicken wings and thighs, expecting a high-quality meal given your establishment’s reputation. Unfortunately, the experience fell far short of expectations. The chicken was extremely dry and overcooked, and the thighs resembled more of a chicken select than a proper thigh. To make matters worse, the food wasn't even served warm. It's hard to believe that a restaurant with a connection to a Michelin-starred chef would serve such poorly prepared chicken. The salt and pepper wings were particularly concerning, as they were undercooked to the point where I could taste the flour on them. This lack of attention to basic cooking standards is unacceptable. Frankly, I would have been better off going to KFC. I had higher hopes for your restaurant, but this experience has left me questioning its commitment to quality. I hope you take this feedback seriously and make the necessary improvements.

Met 2 girlfriends for lunch Should have realised it wasn’t going to go well when I had to ask the bar man to get cucumber for the Hendricks gin from the kitchen We sat outside on the patio in our pre-booked table , a sullen looking waitress arrived after over 10 minutes with menus . No greeting no asking of food allergies or special requirements as you usually do these days After a considerable time we ordered a starter of hummus & bread to share , when this arrived the portion was indeed generous - but we had no side plates cutlery or napkins . We asked several times & after a long delay were given side bowls as apparently no plates were available. No cutlery or napkins still - I had to retrieve these of an inside table myself . No check back - our main course was simply delivered whilst still enjoying the hummus . Main course was indeed delicious- fish & chips , burger & scallop were all cooked perfectly Again no check back - had to again ask for condiments & vinegar from the frankly bored uninterested waitress . We had to chase for a jug of water - which arrived with no water glasses & chase up the 2nd bottle of wine we’d ordered . The dessert was lovely - crème brûlée & a strawberry tart . No criticism of the food - but the service was beyond awful , from the 2nd we arrived . Dirty tables uncleared , no table check backs & certainly no interaction with customers. We waited 29 minutes to pay - again having to chase .

Had a delicious lunch at The Mount today. The food was expertly prepared with the halibut being very fresh and perfectly cooked. We came here for a couple night. Food is exceptional, the quality of meat(s) ingredients, favours and presentation was superb. The scotch egg was amazing. The fallow deer and venison pie was sublime. I would’ve given it 5 stars but the service let it down. I felt we were rushed. We arrived 20 mins earlier and were seated straight away as it was quiet. The waitress were on at us from the get go, it felt like they were sitting on our shoulders and if we’d make a sudden movement, they be there asking if we’d decided on what we were ordering. The only time we didn’t see them was when we wanted the bill.

Feels strange writing this review, as most places I go to eat, really do impress me. Unfortunately The Mount by Glynn Purnell did not :( . The service was fantastic, the waiters and waitress' were all amazing, extremely polite and friendly. Along with having impeccable timing when checking our table and clearing any items etc. The atmosphere wasn't the best, we arrived to a busy pub (which is fine), but the eating area was so quiet! You could hear a pin drop! Is this because we arrived bang on half 5? Weird, I'd of thought there'd always be some kind of music to create a welcoming atmosphere... The food was the let down Unfortunately. I booked this restaurant for my dad's 60th birthday (a party of 5), thinking it was going to be something special. We ordered a bottle of Pinot Noir, absolutely beautiful red wine. Starters were pork nugget, crispy chicken thighs fillets x3. All of this was perfect, and we thought it had set the bar for the standard/quality of food we'd receive for our mains. It was well presented and cooked to perfection. For mains x4 of us had the cutlet of pork, x1 fish and chips. This is where we were all disappointed, the covers came out and were well presented for the simplicity of the dish, but it was (and forgive me for being so blunt), a chewy slab of pork on some mash potatoes. I couldn't quite believe it, I was expecting some exquisite dish with impressive presentation, complimented by rich flavours and textures, much like the starters! We didn't get any of that. (hence no pictures for this review) The icing on the cake was the £240 bill at the end of the evening, which I very much expected to pay upon booking this meal. Unfortunately the meal didn't live up to £240 standards and I know we'd of been able to go to the Four Alls/Queens Head/The Boot/The Moathouse and spent a similar amount and enjoyed the food so so so much more. All In all, I advise others to visit this pub and by no means am I warning people away from this establishment. What I would suggest for The Mount, is a review of the quality/standard of food being served as this did not at all, align with the pricing of the dishes we received, or the name associated with this venue. We expected big things from a big name. I look forward to hearing from The Mount. Thanks, Edward

I was very excited in Sunday to visit the mount and have a bite to eat in their outside area with the kids. It is lovely venue and the food was very delicious. However the service is the worst I have ever experienced. I only really do reviews if I have an excellent experience, I've done 4 in my life, but the experience I had on Sunday was awful. It started by ordering an iced coffee from the menu and being told they do not do ice coffees, eventually the person serving said he meant he couldn't make it. A manager was around and said they could make it, so we ordered. The iced coffee took 25 minutes to come to the table, despite me asking twice if it was coming... no urgency from staff who all seemed young and inexperienced. The food came and was delicious, we was told having the food placed in front of us the waiter was going to come straight back with cutlery and asked us if we wanted sauces. My 5 year old wanted ketchup ... no one came back at all for around 15 minutes. I went to enquire as to where it was. The lady I spoke to seemed genuinely shocked that this had happened and was very sorry... although it was her who had dropped the food to our table so I was very confused by her reaction. Immediately someone came out with sauces but still no cutlery... 🤣, I had to laugh. Kids ate with their hands, lovely food, outrageously bad service, will not be returning or recommending.

I have finally been to The Mounts for Sunday lunch. I’ve been looking forward to this for some time. It lived up to my expectations. I wanted both the soup and the scotch egg. The scotch egg won, and I'm coming back to try the soup. For mains, we went with Pork, Lamb, & beef. My beef was wonderful, and plenty of it. My stepfather had the lamb. He said it melted in his mouth. The freshly made mint sauce was outstanding. My mother had the pork, cooked perfectly with the best crackling. The cauliflower & cheese was great. All the veg complemented the dishes. I forgot to take a picture of the Scorch lemon margarita & Old-fashioned. The drinks and service were perfect. Thank you to all the staff.

A wonderful experience from beginning to end! The gluten free menu was fantastic, we were surprised to have so much to choose from...thank you! (Tiniest critism, gluten free rolls would be nicer than thinnly sliced white bread with the sharing platters). By the end of the scallop starter I had decided that I wanted my birthday meal here this year! Each ingredient on the plate has been treated with respect and is full of flavour. Our service was brilliant. Staff are attentive but not over bearing. Was surprised to see Glynn serve creme brulee instead of burnt Cambridge cream :) (Yes I am a fan of Great British Menu...I think the scallop starter was inspired by Glenn's monkfish dish from GBM too!!)

Great food, but service not good. Four of us went to The Mount as a treat. It was a busy Friday evening, and our table was between the bar and the restaurant. Our food order was taken quickly, but then we were pretty much abandoned! We were never offered more drinks, and we had to go up to the bar to ask for the wine menu and order our wine and drinks. The food was delicious – we had steaks and lamb, and all were cooked perfectly. But when you are paying this much for an upmarket pub meal (our bill was £228 for four of us – two courses and wine) you expect to be looked after. We could see that the staff were busy, and appeared not to have time to come and check on diners outside the main restaurant area. We asked for the service charge to be removed from our bill, and explained why - this was done - but no apology or explanation. Disappointing.

The Mount's website proclaims ' Delicious food in Comfortable Surroundings' The day we visited in march was cold & damp. The dining room was large & not cosy. My wife ordered a soup which was served in a jug & when poured in a cold bowl, it became luke warm immediately. Her second course was a mushroom risotto which again was not hot & it was under seasoned and tasted very bland. My starter was whipped cream cheese It came with an elaborate garnish and no bread. Are you supposed to eat cream cheese with a knife & fork? My main course was pigs cheek which was hot & cooked well. It had a very tasty sauce with a few peas swimming around. It needed a small rice or potato accompaniment. I understand Glynn Parnell owns the pub & does not cook there but if his pub is called 'The Mount by Glynn Parnell' he should make sure that the food is up to standard.

It’s hard to rate this other than 1 as I found bone in my Ham Hock. Two bits I swallowed which are still stuck in my throat now and are causing me pain. I did retrieve one piece, a sharp triangular piece the size of half a thumbnail. This was taken back to the kitchen by the waitress. Who returned to apologise and we were told it is made in house so can happen. That it would be removed from the bill. I believe they removed 2 cokes from the bill also. However, It didn’t stop me from coughing for 20 minutes and I still have a sore throat today. I didn’t feel an apology by the waitress showed sufficient concern. Had I swallowed the third piece I would’ve needed to go to hospital. We persevered through the meal as my wife and I rarely get out and had travelled over an hour. I didn’t want to ruin her night. We both had steaks. My wife a Rib Eye and me the Fillet. Both were cooked medium and amazing for the first half. The second half of both steaks were cooked well and not so good. I’m not sure how they cook them but not what you’d expect. I had the Chocolate Moelleux which was like a tub of stodge and dry. There was no liquid inside which I expected. I left it. My wife had the mint ice cream which was not to her taste. The service was slow halfway through the meal as the place filled up. Taking just over two hours for 3 courses. We tipped the waitress on top of the service charge as I felt during the bone scenario I might have come across initially rude. I was pretty shocked and something I’ve never had anywhere else. Not a good experience and I certainly wouldn’t return

Sadly we had the misfortune to dine at the Mount Pub today in Henley-In-Arden. I ordered the 10oz Hereford Sirloin (rare), it came blue, it was sent back only for the second steak to arrive the wrong side of medium!. Now even if I was prepared to ask for another to be fired, which I wasn't, the meal was already ruined. My wife ordered the salt and pepper squid and the Nduja shrimp. The squid batter was soggy, had no real seasoning at all, the shrimp tasted like potted shrimp at best, and the Nduja sauce was oily, only tasted of paprika and had no spicy kick to it at all. Now I could just put this down to a bad day in the kitchen, but I cannot and will not, because surely Glynn Parnell as a chef, never mind a Michelin starred one must have the utmost high and demanding standards for his restaurants, food and service. If he were to have witnessed what we were served today, there would be positions in the kitchen become available immediately, not only because chef had ruined two pieces of choice sirloin steak, but has cost the restaurant £66.00 as well!. Very disappointed, awful food, Valentine’s lunch ruined! Not that Valentines’ day is in any way really different from any other, but it does hurt a little bit more, especially for my wife. Glynn keep your eye on the ball. 1/10, and the 1 is for Connor who was front of house, lovely professional member of staff.

He must be good because when we were in recently he's even got a range of cocktails named after him! .... can't wait till the next time and see what's on offer...thanks Connor keep up the top work chap

Lovely, until the end of removing the service charge. Our first time at The Mount this evening. When first walking in I did not feel comfortable at all, and thought we walked into the wrong place as it did not feel like a restaurant at all. But was directed to the restaurant which is was outstanding! We were pleasantly greeted by staff (one of which was out waitress) We were seated to our table effortlessly, we had an extended wait to be asked what drinks we would like, for which is unknown as we were the only ones in the restaurant at the time. However our waitress went to the other bar to get our drinks as the pump weren’t working even after I said I will substitute it for another for another drink to save the inconvenience. We ordered our food, and the food was outstanding. In fact, in all the nice places we’ve eaten in this was the best meal we’ve eaten, full of flavour and the quality of the produce is on point. Every mouthful was delicious. When asking for the bill, I specifically asked for the service charge to be removed. This is something I do in every restaurant. The waitress immediately stood up straight and said “was there a problem with your service” I replied “no the service was great” Our waitress who had already been antagonised by the other because she went up and said “no tip” to her. Came back and threw our bill booklet on the table and done an about turn and walked off. I’ve gone straight up and confronted her, and told her I did not appreciate that behaviour, she said she didn’t mean to. I told her it was intentional as she went back laughing with the other waitresses about it. This is not good customer service at all. Don’t just assume that a customer has asked for the service charge to be removed that you’re not getting tipped as I always pay my tips in cash so that, that waitress just receives the gratitude for her service. For this, she received no tip for her service. A service charge is discretionary, whether we have a good service or bad service. We should not feel intimidated at all into paying this charge. I have expressed that I was paying in cash for the tip but to act in this manner is disgusting behaviour. On speaking with the manager, he said the waitress was very upset about it all and said he can guarantee this did not happen as she is not like that. Unfortunately for him, he was not the one on the receiving end of the service, we were. Although he has offered to give us somewhat a discount on drinks when we next return, this has still left me with the thought of not returning due to the ending of what was a lovely meal and service. Don’t judge every book by its cover, as what you see is not always what you get. Read between the lines and understand that sometimes there is always something good that comes out of what you believe to see as a disappointment. Unfortunately on this occasion, due to jumping the gun and showing a lack of respect the waitress has lost out. For this I don’t think I will be returning, first time here and possibly the last time. Gratitude where is deserved and that is to the chefs. *********** In response to your reply, in no way was I abusive towards your staff. Your staff need to be trained on customer service, regardless of age. Previous reviews state the same. if this is your way to cover what had happened and make out I was acting in that manner then you’re wrong. I demonstrated on your bar exactly what your waitress had done to me. I did not shout, raise my voice or be abusive towards your staff. Not one member of your staff had asked me to tone my voice down or to stop being abusive or change my manner do you know why that is? because it didn’t happen! None of this was said to me on the phone when I had phoned afterwards and spoke to Connor (the manager) So if that was the case, why ask me to return and offer a discount?? Just covering yourself against my response, and if this is your response then I’m quite happy not to return. First time that’s ever happened, and it’s a shame it happened on my first visit to your pub.

A lovely destination with great decor and ambience. The food was about what you'd expect from an establishment of this quality. My overriding memory was that no-one seemed to be in charge, as a result the service was sloppy.

Overall a good experience but not 100% up to what I expected. The decor is great and the service is most definitely on par. The menu is varied with some nice combinations and no nonsense combination of flavours. However my celeriac starter was too on the sweet side, there was nothing to balance the sweetness of the dish. The venison dish on the other hand was incredible, perfectly cooked venison with a lovely rich pie of slow cooked meat and a lovely sweet braised carrot to accompany. I’d definitely come again to try some other dishes. Price wise it’s on the higher end for the standard of food but I think most people would enjoy. Definitely one to revisit.

Nice relaxed atmosphere. Four of us went for Sunday lunch. Good selection of roast meats plus vegetarian option. My main course was luke warm at best which was disappointing. Good selection of wines. Just a couple of points to consider: I hate it when staff keep saying 'guys' there's no need for it. Secondly, watching the staff cleaning the tables for the next sitting, they simply sprayed the table and then proceded to wipe any debris from the table on to the floor or the chairs. Now, whether no one has shown them how to clean a table or they simply can't be bothered I'm not sure. I would be really disappointed if they were my staff.

The Mount sets expectations high with nice decor and reference to a Michelin star chef but in reality this is an overpriced pub in a good location. It could be more than that, as demonstrated by the excellent beef rib, but a couple of things let it down. Waitresses were polite but took an age to provide a high chair and served the wrong drink. The deer was good, nice and rare as it should be, but the venison pie was incredibly dry and (for me) a pot with mash on top isn’t exactly a pie. Sadly this was where the gap between description and delivery only got worse. The choux bun with custard arrived with neither choux pastry or custard. Thin caramel sauce quenched what could’ve passed for a hollowed out stale crusty roll. The crème brûlée tasted ok but the consistency was off and the accompanying honeycomb was burnt. Luckily the foul taste of burnt sugar was negated by a sorbet, which otherwise had no business being on the dish, unless maybe they knew about the burnt honeycomb? And the biggest faux pas, hearing kitchen staff swearing. While this might be commonplace in many (probably most) pubs those same pubs don’t have an ‘open kitchen’ which allow customers to both see and hear what’s going on. They also don’t carry the name of a well known Chef. Overall two things struck me. One, the place was empty for a Saturday lunch which speaks volumes. Two, the final bill (>£100 with mandatory 10% service) seemed excessive relative to the quality of the meal and experience. Would I go again? My wife says never but I’d say… maybe. Choose your food wisely and you could have a very nice time.

Terrible service. Rude staff. Ordered a chocolate fudge brownie frappe without coffee. And had coffee put in it. When asked to change to a new one I was given a smaller one without coffee but in a tiny glass. Not even the proper Costa cups. Very disappointed and will not return here again. See the difference in size in the cups that were given. If I have paid money for a Costa I believe I should get what I have paid for. And not a small replacement. And why was it given in a glass and which then made a mess all over the table.
