I was reluctantly taken to the Mount for lunch. I say reluctantly because our last visit to a Mr Purnell's restaurant left a lot to be desired. It was, however, a few years ago. I am very glad to say that this restaurant served us a lovely lunch. Three courses, all delicious, served in beautiful surroundings. The staff were friendly and obliging, and altogether a very enjoyable experience. We are already looking forward to our next visit!

Made a reservation and seated next to a smelly toilet not a great start, had to move ourselves off further into the pub. Salmon starter generous and delicious beautiful with the pickles. Beef perfectly cooked and decent gravy. Roast potatoes hard as rocks, greens way over seasoned to the point of inedible, disappointing sides. Service was very slow, tried to overcharge us by £40 on the bill, when we pointed this out just a shrug no apology. In the end we paid £130 for 2 people having 2 drinks each. Way over priced for slightly above average pub grub

I visited The Mount, Henley In Arden for an evening meal with a friend. We were greeted by two waitresses, who were really professional and friendly. I ordered for starter, the prawn cocktail, followed by rib of beef pie with buttered greens and creamed potatoes. It was simply delicious and considering it’s owned by chef Glynn Purnell, it certainly wasn’t overpriced, as some famous chef owned restaurants are! I would certainly recommend this restaurant to anybody! Well done to the owner, chef’s and staff alike! I will return!

I came in today with family we waited an hour to be be seated when we could see are table sitting there with a reserve sign on it for the whole hour , after we got seated (finally) we waited a further 30 minutes to get are order taken.we order 4 starters 2 pork belly bite and 2 beef sandwich’s ,we ordered 5 roasts 2 chicken,3 beef and they asked for a slice of pork belly on there as-well. around 10 minutes later a waiteress comes over and tells us we’ve BEEN TO PICKING with are starters and told us that they have to have the pickles inside the sandwich and the sauce also !! We were flabbergasted 5 minutes later the same waitress returns and tell us because we order extra sides to come with are roasts such as (extra gravy ,potatoes) they won’t be able to do that even Though we are the ones paying for it and if we wanted a slice of pork we had to pay for a whole extra roast !!!!!!! She also went on to tell us that next time we come we should book for a table of 8 people instead of 5 because that’s how much food we order Apparently ! The table seated behind us was her friends and they kept staring over at us and taking about it I felt so uncomfortable she made it a horrible experience Her attitude and mannerisms was absolutely disgusting !! If anyone else has had this problem before let me no

I note some of the few negative reviews but this is far from our positive experience. I went for a Sunday roast and everything was faultless. Staff were attentive and very confident to engage regarding the menu and in particular, allergies. Roast beef was perfect and the most tender I've experienced. Decor was sophisticated and relaxing. Would definitely book again.

Wonderful restaurant in delightful Henley in Arden with a nice garden area. The menu was perfect for a family with a very diverse dietary requirement, covering vegetarian, pescatarian and non-vegetarians. For my main, I had the beef pie, probably one of the best freshly baked pies I’ve ever had! Packed with delicious beef and seasoned perfectly; served with greens and potato mash. A sticky toffee pudding with ice cream was shared, it was very moorish. One tiny negative, the waitress & the menu did not make the sides clear; as a result we ordered four sides that were not necessary - just a complete waste of food and meant we were too full up to have individual deserts.

Arrived expecting a great meal! Ordered Prawn cocktail to start which was nice and a medium rare fillet steak which arrived medium. What really was annoying I asked the waitress if I needed to order it rare as I would rather it be underdone than overdone ! Despite this it arrived medium pink in the middle no juices very disappointing. Service was fine and the staff nice. The dining area feels a bit sterile and needs to be jazzed up a bit

I can't believe it took me so long to visit The Mount, but I finally dined there last Saturday. First of all, a busy bar area as you enter giving a very friendly and happy atmosphere..Then a charming dining area to the rear, which was pleasantly busy for a cold day in January..On checking the menu, it was surprisingly inexpensive with a varied and interesting choice of food. A bottle of superb Chilean Merlot for around £25? Wow!! I had smoked salmon to start which was delicious. Then cod served on a bed of vegetables, perfectly cooked and tasty. Finally sticky toffee pudding which was tasty, light and with an amazing texture. Service throughout was both friendly and attentive. Times are tough in hospitality at the moment but every table was occupied . I think it speaks for itself!!! Well done Glynn Purnell. You have a terrific venue here. I thoroughly enjoyed my introduction to The Mount and can't wait to return very soon.

Splendid food overall save that the sticky toffee pudding was said to be on the dry side but the service was appalling so that all the good marks awarded for food lost on account therewith. When are we going to learn in this country that Service is as important as the food to be provided. It was not as if the restaurant was busy, anything but, which might explain the complete indifference exhibited by the staff. The ‘optional’ service charge was a deceit but to refuse to pay would have denied the kitchen staff their just desserts. Disappointing.

Went for a family Sunday lunch. We were all a little underwhelmed and surprised with the standard of our food. Both the roast beef and roast chicken were cooked perfectly. However, the vegetables were very disappointing the roast potatoes and greens were OK, but the carrots and cauliflower cheese were AWFUL, both overcooked and soggy. I would find it difficult to recommend The Mount as a choice for Sunday lunch.

Went for a second visit this time for Sunday lunch as we had previously been in the evening. I had the roast beef and my husband had chicken. The food was very good although the gravy let it down a little ( I feel this is an important part of a Sunday Roast dinner) and the cauliflower cheese although very tasty was quite dry. We shared a sticky toffee pudding with salted caramel sauce - nice enough but not outstanding - and the caramel sauce was too salty. Learning that Glen Purnell owned this restaurant, we arrived expecting something a little bit special. The restaurant was empty so we opted to sit in the bar area. The cutlery was quite dull (some was stained) and a tumbler for water had water stains. I checked the menu before making a booking and saw that there were some interesting fish options. Unfortunately that was the summer menu that had been changed several days earlier and the website hadn’t been updated! The only option was a starter of smoked salmon or cod and chips. We both shared a starter of Camembert with GF bread (which was white sliced, slightly crisped but nothing special.) We opted for steak which was good and cooked as requested but it was served only with bog standard fries and a small flat mushroom marinated in a sweet vinegar dressing. Our peppercorn sauce lacked depth. Only one of us had dessert. Together with two medium glasses of red wine at £7.50 each, four glasses of water and a hot drink we paid £135 (including a 10% service charge.) It’s not the money, It was just a basic, village pub with only two staff on duty front of house - one was a bar man and the other our waitress (that we had to alert to our arrival as she was in the kitchen!) She did serve us well though. Overall, the venue, and menu options were too basic to warrant the final price. We were celebrating a birthday. We have previously enjoyed much better food options, service and ambience at The Bluebell and at The Chapel restaurant in Edgbaston Birmingham, both great independent restaurants.

I am writing to express my deep disappointment with my recent order from your restaurant. I ordered chicken wings and thighs, expecting a high-quality meal given your establishment’s reputation. Unfortunately, the experience fell far short of expectations. The chicken was extremely dry and overcooked, and the thighs resembled more of a chicken select than a proper thigh. To make matters worse, the food wasn't even served warm. It's hard to believe that a restaurant with a connection to a Michelin-starred chef would serve such poorly prepared chicken. The salt and pepper wings were particularly concerning, as they were undercooked to the point where I could taste the flour on them. This lack of attention to basic cooking standards is unacceptable. Frankly, I would have been better off going to KFC. I had higher hopes for your restaurant, but this experience has left me questioning its commitment to quality. I hope you take this feedback seriously and make the necessary improvements.

Met 2 girlfriends for lunch Should have realised it wasn’t going to go well when I had to ask the bar man to get cucumber for the Hendricks gin from the kitchen We sat outside on the patio in our pre-booked table , a sullen looking waitress arrived after over 10 minutes with menus . No greeting no asking of food allergies or special requirements as you usually do these days After a considerable time we ordered a starter of hummus & bread to share , when this arrived the portion was indeed generous - but we had no side plates cutlery or napkins . We asked several times & after a long delay were given side bowls as apparently no plates were available. No cutlery or napkins still - I had to retrieve these of an inside table myself . No check back - our main course was simply delivered whilst still enjoying the hummus . Main course was indeed delicious- fish & chips , burger & scallop were all cooked perfectly Again no check back - had to again ask for condiments & vinegar from the frankly bored uninterested waitress . We had to chase for a jug of water - which arrived with no water glasses & chase up the 2nd bottle of wine we’d ordered . The dessert was lovely - crème brûlée & a strawberry tart . No criticism of the food - but the service was beyond awful , from the 2nd we arrived . Dirty tables uncleared , no table check backs & certainly no interaction with customers. We waited 29 minutes to pay - again having to chase .

Feels strange writing this review, as most places I go to eat, really do impress me. Unfortunately The Mount by Glynn Purnell did not :( . The service was fantastic, the waiters and waitress' were all amazing, extremely polite and friendly. Along with having impeccable timing when checking our table and clearing any items etc. The atmosphere wasn't the best, we arrived to a busy pub (which is fine), but the eating area was so quiet! You could hear a pin drop! Is this because we arrived bang on half 5? Weird, I'd of thought there'd always be some kind of music to create a welcoming atmosphere... The food was the let down Unfortunately. I booked this restaurant for my dad's 60th birthday (a party of 5), thinking it was going to be something special. We ordered a bottle of Pinot Noir, absolutely beautiful red wine. Starters were pork nugget, crispy chicken thighs fillets x3. All of this was perfect, and we thought it had set the bar for the standard/quality of food we'd receive for our mains. It was well presented and cooked to perfection. For mains x4 of us had the cutlet of pork, x1 fish and chips. This is where we were all disappointed, the covers came out and were well presented for the simplicity of the dish, but it was (and forgive me for being so blunt), a chewy slab of pork on some mash potatoes. I couldn't quite believe it, I was expecting some exquisite dish with impressive presentation, complimented by rich flavours and textures, much like the starters! We didn't get any of that. (hence no pictures for this review) The icing on the cake was the £240 bill at the end of the evening, which I very much expected to pay upon booking this meal. Unfortunately the meal didn't live up to £240 standards and I know we'd of been able to go to the Four Alls/Queens Head/The Boot/The Moathouse and spent a similar amount and enjoyed the food so so so much more. All In all, I advise others to visit this pub and by no means am I warning people away from this establishment. What I would suggest for The Mount, is a review of the quality/standard of food being served as this did not at all, align with the pricing of the dishes we received, or the name associated with this venue. We expected big things from a big name. I look forward to hearing from The Mount. Thanks, Edward

I was very excited in Sunday to visit the mount and have a bite to eat in their outside area with the kids. It is lovely venue and the food was very delicious. However the service is the worst I have ever experienced. I only really do reviews if I have an excellent experience, I've done 4 in my life, but the experience I had on Sunday was awful. It started by ordering an iced coffee from the menu and being told they do not do ice coffees, eventually the person serving said he meant he couldn't make it. A manager was around and said they could make it, so we ordered. The iced coffee took 25 minutes to come to the table, despite me asking twice if it was coming... no urgency from staff who all seemed young and inexperienced. The food came and was delicious, we was told having the food placed in front of us the waiter was going to come straight back with cutlery and asked us if we wanted sauces. My 5 year old wanted ketchup ... no one came back at all for around 15 minutes. I went to enquire as to where it was. The lady I spoke to seemed genuinely shocked that this had happened and was very sorry... although it was her who had dropped the food to our table so I was very confused by her reaction. Immediately someone came out with sauces but still no cutlery... 🤣, I had to laugh. Kids ate with their hands, lovely food, outrageously bad service, will not be returning or recommending.

Great food, but service not good. Four of us went to The Mount as a treat. It was a busy Friday evening, and our table was between the bar and the restaurant. Our food order was taken quickly, but then we were pretty much abandoned! We were never offered more drinks, and we had to go up to the bar to ask for the wine menu and order our wine and drinks. The food was delicious – we had steaks and lamb, and all were cooked perfectly. But when you are paying this much for an upmarket pub meal (our bill was £228 for four of us – two courses and wine) you expect to be looked after. We could see that the staff were busy, and appeared not to have time to come and check on diners outside the main restaurant area. We asked for the service charge to be removed from our bill, and explained why - this was done - but no apology or explanation. Disappointing.

A wonderful experience from beginning to end! The gluten free menu was fantastic, we were surprised to have so much to choose from...thank you! (Tiniest critism, gluten free rolls would be nicer than thinnly sliced white bread with the sharing platters). By the end of the scallop starter I had decided that I wanted my birthday meal here this year! Each ingredient on the plate has been treated with respect and is full of flavour. Our service was brilliant. Staff are attentive but not over bearing. Was surprised to see Glynn serve creme brulee instead of burnt Cambridge cream :) (Yes I am a fan of Great British Menu...I think the scallop starter was inspired by Glenn's monkfish dish from GBM too!!)

There was an expectation the food would be Glynn Purnell standard given his stature in birmingham. The meat was cooked to perfection but all other things were below par. Cold sides and overcooked Yorkshire puddings lead to a uneventful experience. I don't think we shall be returning

Nice top end pub with good pub food. Worth a visit. Scotch egg was very good indeed, fish and chips were excellent. The sirloin steak...was a sirloin steak.

Michelin star! Failed to serve the sourdough toast with the pressed terrine starter and when reminded about it pointed at the focaccia bread we had ordered separately. When we said that’s focaccia ordered separately they went back to the kitchen, came back with another piece of focaccia and banged it down on the table. I’ve had better service in a greasy spoon.

The Mount's website proclaims ' Delicious food in Comfortable Surroundings' The day we visited in march was cold & damp. The dining room was large & not cosy. My wife ordered a soup which was served in a jug & when poured in a cold bowl, it became luke warm immediately. Her second course was a mushroom risotto which again was not hot & it was under seasoned and tasted very bland. My starter was whipped cream cheese It came with an elaborate garnish and no bread. Are you supposed to eat cream cheese with a knife & fork? My main course was pigs cheek which was hot & cooked well. It had a very tasty sauce with a few peas swimming around. It needed a small rice or potato accompaniment. I understand Glynn Parnell owns the pub & does not cook there but if his pub is called 'The Mount by Glynn Parnell' he should make sure that the food is up to standard.

It’s hard to rate this other than 1 as I found bone in my Ham Hock. Two bits I swallowed which are still stuck in my throat now and are causing me pain. I did retrieve one piece, a sharp triangular piece the size of half a thumbnail. This was taken back to the kitchen by the waitress. Who returned to apologise and we were told it is made in house so can happen. That it would be removed from the bill. I believe they removed 2 cokes from the bill also. However, It didn’t stop me from coughing for 20 minutes and I still have a sore throat today. I didn’t feel an apology by the waitress showed sufficient concern. Had I swallowed the third piece I would’ve needed to go to hospital. We persevered through the meal as my wife and I rarely get out and had travelled over an hour. I didn’t want to ruin her night. We both had steaks. My wife a Rib Eye and me the Fillet. Both were cooked medium and amazing for the first half. The second half of both steaks were cooked well and not so good. I’m not sure how they cook them but not what you’d expect. I had the Chocolate Moelleux which was like a tub of stodge and dry. There was no liquid inside which I expected. I left it. My wife had the mint ice cream which was not to her taste. The service was slow halfway through the meal as the place filled up. Taking just over two hours for 3 courses. We tipped the waitress on top of the service charge as I felt during the bone scenario I might have come across initially rude. I was pretty shocked and something I’ve never had anywhere else. Not a good experience and I certainly wouldn’t return

Sadly we had the misfortune to dine at the Mount Pub today in Henley-In-Arden. I ordered the 10oz Hereford Sirloin (rare), it came blue, it was sent back only for the second steak to arrive the wrong side of medium!. Now even if I was prepared to ask for another to be fired, which I wasn't, the meal was already ruined. My wife ordered the salt and pepper squid and the Nduja shrimp. The squid batter was soggy, had no real seasoning at all, the shrimp tasted like potted shrimp at best, and the Nduja sauce was oily, only tasted of paprika and had no spicy kick to it at all. Now I could just put this down to a bad day in the kitchen, but I cannot and will not, because surely Glynn Parnell as a chef, never mind a Michelin starred one must have the utmost high and demanding standards for his restaurants, food and service. If he were to have witnessed what we were served today, there would be positions in the kitchen become available immediately, not only because chef had ruined two pieces of choice sirloin steak, but has cost the restaurant £66.00 as well!. Very disappointed, awful food, Valentine’s lunch ruined! Not that Valentines’ day is in any way really different from any other, but it does hurt a little bit more, especially for my wife. Glynn keep your eye on the ball. 1/10, and the 1 is for Connor who was front of house, lovely professional member of staff.

We took my parents the The Mount for their 50th wedding anniversary meal. This was our first visit, and it didn't disappoint. The pub area is very well presented, with exposed oak beams and a nice log burner in the corner. The restaurant area at the back of the building is very airy, with high ceilings and had about 10 tables in it when we visited. The Mount has a few vegan options, which were absolutely fantastic. They were full of flavour. Hats off to the kitchen staff! Some on our table had steak and they couldn't praise it highly enough. Our waitress, India, was great, as we're all of the staff. Overall we had a really enjoyable evening. Will definitely recommend to friends and family, and will certainly be back!

We traveled to visit The Mount for our evening meal.We wanted to try the steak & ale pie.The staff were polite helpful and professional and we were soon thoughley enjoying the main course. I had mentioned when i booked the reservation if they still did a crumble desert? However this was not part of the same menu as they pie. When we had finished eating. Our waitress Heidi spoke to us and said the chef would do us some rhubarb crumbs. As we were waiting a gentleman came to the table and thanked us for travelling to dine and introduced himself as the owner.A truely thoughtful and kind jesture. As we paid the bill. I asked the staff if they would pass to the kitchen team our gratitude for going the extra mile. One the chefs then met me and i passed on to him how much we all appreciated everything they had done for us.In this day & age, when customer service is almost non exsitance. It was a wonderful suprise to find excellent service from the whole staff this evening. Thank you all very much. Hope to see you all very soon.

This pub is sadly currently closed due to a large fire earlier in the year. It will be closed for some time. I hope it gets restored as it had a great reputation before. There are plenty of other great alternatives nearby to visit.

Enjoyed a decent pint of proper ale while waiting to get food from the interestingly located Chinese in back room. A novel and great arrangement.
