The Crabmill in Stratford-on-Avon

This pub is sadly currently closed due to a large fire earlier in the year. It will be closed for some time. I hope it gets restored as it had a great reputation before. There are plenty of other great alternatives nearby to visit.

I have been going to The Crabmill for over 7 years now and have never had a bad experience, meal or service. All staff are welcoming and polite. My latest experience was with a lovely waitress called Natalie who was wonderful. Her customer care was welcoming from the moment we walked in until the moment we left. Food was delicious as always, my only critique would be the size of the Starters, although delicious I feel for the price, the portions need to be bigger…

We booked a family meal of 10 at The Crabmill and must say what a lovely experience it was. The service was very attentive and friendly. The food was exceptional. Our party had allergies and this was catered for excellently. I had 3 courses, each were vegan and were delicious. Very good choice for vegetarians and vegans. I have been here quite a few times and it never fails to deliver.

This was our 3rd visit & the last. On our first visit we had a very good experience with very attentive staff, good wine & lovely food so not surprisingly we returned the following week week which was atrocious. We ordered our food with our waitress who must have been related to the owner as she was quite frankly terrible and of advancing years. We waited a very long time during which time (an hour at least) no one approached us for any kind of update on our food. Finally after witnessing huddled whispers from staff we were informed of a 'mix up' with my partners starter. Finally our starters arrived & were at best mediocre then to add insult to injury, we then had a huge wait for our mains with zero explanation from staff. But, as we had very different experiences between our 2 visits we decided to give them the benefit of the doubt & visit again, assuming the 2nd visit was an anomaly. Sadly not. On our 3rd visit we were ignored for some time when we entered the bar. We were eventually seated but were barely spoken to, just handed a menu. In the end we had to go in search of a wine menu as no one had bothered giving us one. The waitress (who was the waitress who had looked after us on our 1st visit & who had clearly been promoted since) & who was apparently 'looking after' us was cold throughout especially when it became clear we were only intending to order a main & completely ignored us for the rest of the evening once we informed her we didn't want to look at the desert menu so we had to go to the bar to settle the bill. We won't return for a 4th visit.

Had lunch on Valentines day Me the wife and two friends we all had a great enjoyable meal great foodl when getting back to the car we found we had left the lights on and the battery was completely flat .After going back into the the Crabmill to use the phone as we had no sevice on our mobile we explain to our waitress what the problem was she came out to the car with jump leads and help us to get the car running (not sure of her name) we would like to pass on our gratitude for all the help that we were given again many thanks Michael & Callie Byrne

Fabulous venue,wonderful food and great staff.We’ve eaten in many restaurants and this is one of the best ! I only wish we were local. Simply amazing thank you!

Went for Sunday lunch with my very elderly, disabled mother. The food was excellent, particularly the vegetables - I really enjoyed it. It's worth noting that there are steps to negotiate to get to the loo.

Lovely pub after a nice countryside walk. We've done a short 6km hike beforehand and just wanted a quick drink and bite to grab before we drove home. Went in and was greeted by a tall lad behind the bar who was very helpful and made us feel welcome. I've had a mixed beef and pork sunday roast and my partner had sausage and mash. Both meals were absolutely lovely. Then we went on to have a sticky toffee pudding to share which was also very delicious! Both food and service were great despite the pub being quite busy on a late Sunday afternoon. We will definitely be coming back. P.S. we absolutely loved the tea set, if the landlord could share the secret where we could get one from that would be wonderful!!!

A revisit to one of my favourite pubs for lunch - what better way to start the New Year 2022 with friends and good food! Booking experience 5/5. No drama, no fees, no only online booking. Refreshing! Pleasant staff on the phone. Excellent table in the restaurant with plenty of room for the four of us. Caring, attentive service, excellent food, good choice of non-alcoholic drinks for the drivers and choice of beers. Everyone was happy with my choice of venue and all said we’d return! Happy New Year 🥳

The gluten free menu is exceptional here. We have been coming for years and this restaurant is one of our favourites. It always has a friendly buzz and the food is consistently good. Well worth a visit with friends and family.

Absolutely fantastic meal at the Crabmill. Good quality food, good hearty portions and amazingly lovely staff. We both had the parsnip and apple soup to start. I then had the braised lamp - an enormous portion - the meat just fell off the bone and melted in the mouth. I'm not big on potatoes and so they substitute the potatoes with lots of lovely extra veg. And the glossiest, shiniest gravy I have ever seen. Husband had the traditional turkey and was equally enthusiastic. I want to eat here every night (and every lunchtime!)

There were six of us, and between us we clocked up around 750 miles coming for lunch and returning home. It was worth every mile! You create such a wonderfully friendly atmosphere. The Crabmill looked lovely yesterday. Congratulations to the Xmas decorator. The front of house staff were charming and welcoming, even though the meals were very complicated, a special thank you to the charming blonde hostess, and the manager on duty - your patience was endless. The food was brilliant. I love your menus always something a bit different as well as old favourites, generous portions, but not over-facing. We were with you almost three hours and loved every minute. Just wish we all lived nearer. Thank you very much.

Visited with two friends last night. So refreshing to have a wide gluten free selection. Had the bbq wings and cheese and onion pie. Best gluten free pastry I have ever tasted. Will definitely be back for more!

The marquee in the back garden provides really good shelter and has the advantage of blocking out the view of the car park and highlighting the green hills with their sheep and lambs. Everything well handled Covid wise and food and wine up to scratch

Our first outing after lockdown. They've done an excellent job of making everyone feel safe. A huge marquee in the garden , to keep diners out of the wind, whilst still enjoying the lovely views, and early spring sunshine. We had a very warm welcome from the staff, who were friendly & attentive throughout. We had prawns & baby squid to start (both delicious) followed by a perfectly cooked steak sandwich with delicious chunky chips. Coffee & a small desert is a menu option, and the perfect portion size to round off our meal. A really enjoyable afternoon, thankyou everyone at The Crabmill, would 100% recommend you and we"ll definitely be back soon.

Short stay for a few nights during Covid times and this restaurant was a short drive from our accommodation. Booked online easily. Restaurant had a number of others in but tables socially distanced and we had a lovely table in an alcove. Table service and spotlessly clean. Beautiful food, varied menu. My husband had lamb and I had one of the best burgers I have tasted! We indulged with starters and my husband is still talking about the quality of the French onion soup. Desert was shared but it was a beautiful roulade and raspberry sorbet. Can highly recommend.

Although we had to sit outside as one of our group can't mix households it was a lovely evening. The service was excellent and the food gorgeous. I would most certainly go back - wrapping up warm is a small price to pay to be able to visit the Crabmill.

Having had Sunday lunch here many times and also at their sister pubs i wanted to take my family here for my 50th birthday lunch. The restaurant was empty at 1.30 and we sat down in a room at the back of restaurant which was empty and soulless. The menu was missing items that we had had before like cauliflower cheese and mini sausages and no alternatives to pork or beef. Food came in minutes and was warm not hot - one slice of beef (had 3 at the Arrow Mill) and veg was watery and bland. Overall for £115 it was a disappointing lunch and we were there for just 40 minutes. Next time i will book at the Arrow or Bell

My friend and I were visiting the area and called in for a quick bite to eat, we ordered several of the small plates to share. The service was good, and the food was quick to come and delicious. If we didn’t have dinner booked already would have had mains and desert as the food looked great!

A last minute table, absolutely fantastic. My family and I celebrated my fathers birthday at The Crabmill. Staff were friendly, attentive and FOOD WAS EXCELLENT. I had the sea bass- cooked to absolute perfection; compliments to the chef. Despite the current circumstances, the Crabmill staff (all wearing safety visors) played to and followed health and safely guidelines- going the extra mile.One of our party is gluten intolerant and so requested a gluten-free menu. We were amazed- GLUTEN FREE BEER BATTERED FISH AND CHIPS- it’s been a while. Would definitely recommend. Shall be returning very soon.

Booked in advance, after perusing the online menus. Asked for a window table, but wasn't given one, despite the fact that the window table next to us was vacant throughout our stay. The social distancing measures were good. I had vegan food and the sour cream with my main meal was so good that I had to double check it was actually vegan! My starter was utterly delicious. My omnivore partner enjoyed his meal. We will certainly return, but can I ask that the online menu is kept up to date please?

We haven't been to the Crabmill for about 4 years. We received a warm welcome and all staff we encountered were very polite and helpful especially Pippa who looked after us. The food was delicious with a flexible menu, i.e. you could have larger starters and there were smaller mains and small puds available. Liked this idea. Felt more than comfortable with the measures put in place for Covid. Have already recommended to friends who have not been for a couple of years. Hoping to take family for Christmas.

First time at the Crabmill and we will return. Food was great, the servers were friendly and efficient. The Covid measures in place were welcomed and didn’t put us off at all - I would rather feel safe and enjoy my meal in a relaxed environment, which we did.

The food was frozen, not what you want after making the trip out to have a nice meal. Service was slow as well, but understandable with Covid staffing regulations.

Such great venue, my daughter and I came here for lunch today. Upon arrival we were showed to our table by the host who explained the new covid measures. Enjoyed our evening, nice menu, good wine list, definitely felt safe with good distance between tables and clear rules for in/out etc. One suggestion would be for the waitress to smile and try to remember we were there to enjoy ourselves, for example I asked about cocktails and felt ‘told off’ for asking. Having said that, the service was efficient without feeling rushed and maybe just that she was having a bad day or nervous. Steak was good, hummus lovely, olives not good, fish cake a little stodgy, chips perfect, duck starters great, creme brûlée hadn’t set but was excellent anyway.

Came here last night as they were doing the "eat out to help out" Covid scheme. Lovely selection on menu, including veggie & healthy options. Felt very safe as tables spaced well apart,hand sanitizers at entrance/exit & staff wearing face visors. Prices very good on food but drink prices a little expensive (£3.50 for a coke!?) The only thing I didn't like was they allowed dogs in the restaurant. I'm a dog owner myself but think they should be directed to the tables in bar or outside not IN the restaurant section.

Visited here Sunday 2nd August. Greeted at the door and explained the very clear rules to remain safe whilst at the pub. Service was impeccable and the food sensational. The menu had a great selection to choose from. Most of us had roast as it was a Sunday and it did not disappoint. The portions were very generous and every part of the dish was bursting with flavour from the, red cabbage, gravy, steamed veg, huge yorkie and lovely pink beef (in my case). Well done chef! The afternoon was finished off by us taking our drinks into the garden to enjoy the sunshine. We can not wait to return!

Well my wife and I have just returned home from an excellent afternoon at the Crabmill. This was the first day of opening after lockdown and thanks to Duncan and the team we had a fantastic time. The food was just spectacular (we had the beef roast) and the service was second to none. Social distancing and cleanliness was a high priority but this did not spoil our experience, it was actually reassuring. We will be back very soon. Very highly recommended. Well done Duncan at the entire team.

The service throughout the meal was atrocious, I had to go to the bar to order our pre-dinner drinks as no-one came to serve us. I then had to go to the bar to get the wine list and menu as again no-ne appeared and only after some 20 minutes did a disinterested waitress arrive. The for was good but service ruined the day and its th first time in my life I have not tipped. Dreadful dreadful service that they should be ashamed of!

Belated birthday lunch with my Bezzie. Have been before but not since the change of owners. Lovely gin cocktail to start, followed by a shared starter of cured meats. Delicious. Baked cod and the biggest Lashford sausages i have ever seen! They looked more like bananas. Absolutely gorgeous. What a good idea to serve little puddings with coffee. We managed to squeeze them in! Service was good for a busy Friday and our waitress had a sense of humour which was well appreciated. We couldnt fault the food, compliments to the chef, you can stay! I would go back here for maybe a few glasses of wine in the future but when I went here a few months a go with my friend, I was amazed at the decor ...the professional attitude of the staff and the cosy - feel.The starter seemed quite a good size..but my friends seemed very small for what it was and the same with the main meals too.. came away not as full as I would have liked to be... I did email the pub but absolutely no reply at all... quite expensive too here.My advice is go here maybe for a few drinks if you have spare money.. or if you are not a huge eater due to portion sizes.

We went there today (9th Feb) for my daughter’s birthday. The service was appalling. We were greeted by the most miserable waitress who ended taking our order! We were to frightened to ask her for anything as she was stern and miserable. The chicken was raw as there was blood on the plate. The pigs in blankets were also raw as sausage and bacon were pink and not cooked properly! Didn’t say anything as we just wanted to get out of the restaurant. I went to the sister restaurant - The Roe Deer in Wordsley last Friday and cannot fault the meal, the service and environment. The Crabmill staff and chef need to take a leaf out of the staff at The Roe Deer!

Joe was an excellent server and made our time at the crab mill great! Food was good but he made it more welcoming as other servers weren’t too involved. A shame they have to share the tip as he deserves it all!

This pub is amaizng I could leave it there !! But the decor is fabulous the staff are so friendly young gentleman working Monday 3.2.20 in blue shirt give best service!! A group of us have been having our end of year get together at Crabmill for a number of years. This year we were a little hesitant due to some mixed reviews on this site since the restaurant got new owners roughly seven months ago. Biting the bullet, we decided to stick with the location & give it a try. Extremely pleased we did. Service was spot on & all the various meals the group had were excellent, so much so that we’ve booked it for my birthday meal later this month which I’m very much looking forward to.

Visited here several times during December including Christmas Eve with family. Each time we had excellent food and service. The staff were very pleasant and professional. This pub has certainly improved in recent months - keep up the good work as we need a good pub in the area!

Our two families spent last Xmas eve here and had a great meal since then the establishment has been taken over.Yet again we had a fantastic time the staff were very helpful and the food was excellent with both Xmas fare and the normal menu available which was great as Turkey can get too much at this time of year!Reasonably priced will see you next year if not before
