The Moorings in Cheshire West and Chester

A lovely breakfast/ brunch meal at around 11 am. The service was great and the setting was lovely. Highly recommended and we will be back.

We had a lovely lunch out by the river on a sunny October day. The breakfast bap was brilliant and the service was quick and friendly. The lovely day definitely helped but really enjoyed the time we spent at the Moorings and would recommend it if you find yourself looking for a sandwich and a nice seat in Chester.

Overpriced food but well cooked ,,, when it eventually comes. The service was slow and laboured. The waiter was pleasant but I suspect they couldn’t cope. At £30+ for what we had was, quite frankly, a rip off. Eggs on toast -£12.50. One piece of toast.

We called in the Moorings early doors for breakfast, we were served by Lisa who was very helpful and cheery. We both enjoyed our breakfast, it was simple, nicely cooked & piping hot. I ordered a veggie breakfast and my wife ordered egg on toast so not much to go wrong really. Great location on the riverside, only issue is they stop serving at 5.30pm.

Well I'm speechless, popped in for coffee and a cake, placed the order, paid and sat waiting. About 30 minutes later we were told the table was reserved (no reserved notice on the table) and they had already moved our order to another table and were told to move there. So initially we did, the people who 'booked' the table very obviously hadn't booked it by the way they were talking, the staff just wanted them to have the table. Although there was another vacant table further back that was empty and big enough for them. My husband was so upset he left and I asked for a refund as our drink and cake hadn't arrive yet anyway. I was just told it was there 'bad' but no apology. I think this is the first time I felt discriminated against for age or something, my husband is disabled and had surgery only a few days ago, this was our first little outing since he was discharged from hospital and the customer service we received here ruined it. I'm so disappointed as it had been such a long time since we had been here, but probably won't bother again, the attitude of the staff and how they treat you lets the place down.

With the weather being beautiful today my partner and I decided to start the day with a hearty breakfast. We took a walk along the River Dee and came across The Moorings. When we walked inside the place was immaculately clean and well presented. Staff very polite and friendly. We ordered breakfast 😋 and wow it was delicious, local produce and very tasty. Lovely views of the river. Big shout out to pete the Manager excellent service in hospitality. If you're visiting Chester The Moorings is a must. You won't be disappointed. We will be back. Keep up the good work guys. Great team.😊

We’ve come here many times on a Sunday morning. Kids love the waffles. Good tea and coffee. Very nice picturesque location by the River Dee.

We absolutely love the moorings, the team there are always amazing and so attentive, Pete especially goes out of his way to make sure we have a great experience, could not recommend more, the food is incredible 😍

A lovely spot for a drink along the riverside. The seating outside is a little cramped and you are very close to people on other tables. Service isn't the fastest but staff were polite enough. A really nice place if you just fancy a relaxing beer along the river away from the crowds.

Fantastic food ! The breakfast was the best either of us has ever had. Service was excellent, staff so friendly.I had emailed to book a table for my husbands birthday and asked for a window table over looking the river. As pretty as this cafe/restaurant was, the service shown towards me was not. I had bought some sweets from elsewhere and my family had already ordered for me inside yet I was not permitted to come inside as i’d been eating the sweets! I tried to explain to staff but it was irrational!

Recommended for breakfast here when visiting family.Ordered 3 Salmon Royale which has the most miniscule amounts of salmon on them on small shop bought muffins, tiny poached eggs and a scraping of hollandaise. The Salmon didn't, t even cover the muffin, literally half covered it and was wafer thin.No garnish and totally underwhelming.It was bizarre that the staff member tried to upsell hash browns with the salmon. I would expect that with a fried breakfast.I wish we had walk into the city where we went afterwards as we saw breakfasts being served outside on restaurants on Bridge Street that looked fantastic and much cheaper than what we paid.Location was nice but that's where it ends. Really disappointed for the price as it was not worth the money at all based on the ridiculously small portion served.

What a lovely place and will definitely be returning. Main reason for this, was the way the lady behind the bar (excuse my ignorance for not getting her name-visit 12:15pm 20/3/24), who was single-handedly, serving everyone with the utmost professionalism. When we arrived, with a very warm welcoming and baby was made a fuss of, which is always a good sign in my eyes, there was only 1 other table occupied, but approx 30mins later, it was as if a coach load of people turned up! This didn't seem to phase her. She just continued to welcome, serve, clean tables and somehow check on everyone in there! Everyone in there was understanding of the situation and how she was handling it, which made for a very pleasant atmosphere. The wife and myself were gobsmacked how she was doing it! Our Tip showed this and she was very grateful. Credit where credit is due. Couldn't fault the food either. The club sandwich with chunky chips is a must.

Unfortunately we had a very negative experience as a couple. When finding one of several empty tables outside I went in to order coffee and was told in a rather curt manner they were not taking any orders as'too busy'. Very strange as there were numerous staff and lots of empty tables. There was no appoligy and I left feeling very dispondant.

Booked for a birthday breakfast. The staff reserved the window table for us and put up a little birthday banner which was a surprise, so thoughtful. Food was delicious and service was excellent. View of the boats on the river on a beautiful sunny day just made it all the more perfect. My younger son asked if we can go back for his birthday and I think we definitely will. We booked The Moorings for breakfast before starting our day out in Chester. We absolutely made the right decision. The riverside setting was delightful. The service from start to finish was first class, even though it was very busy . The food was delicious and we didn't have to wait long at all. I would highly recommend to anyone and we can't wait to go back. Thank you!

Came about a year ago for lunch and we were lured back due to the location and memories of lovely food . Didnt disappoint - fantastic to eat outside in February with the perfect backdrop on the river . Food is a little higher than average - but paying for the location and view is more than worth it . Sandwiches were really well portioned as well goujons and some lovely chunky chips . All served with good dressed salads and dips . Will definitely return again

After walking across Chester looking for a dog friendly spot for me and my aging cocker spaniel to have a spot of lunch I tried The Moorings on the bank of river I was greeted with a warm and friendly welcome and the food was excellent Harvey enjoyed his sausage and we were able to shelter from the wind in a clean and pleasant environment. I will definitely return the next time I am strolling around Chester

I booked a table for lunch as there were five of us, we got a great table in the window with a great view! The cafe was very clean, noted by all of us. And then the food was served, was so tasty, good value and just what we needed!! The chips were exceptionally good, both of us who had them were most impressed!!! The young waiter who served us also was very polite. We will definitely be returning.

Really nice place on the river- walked around the walls and dropped off by suspension bridge to visit this place again. Good choice for lunch had vegetarian breakfast (although not veggie!) excellent. Very good coffee too- service is amazing too. There are soooo many places for breakfast/lunch in Chester now that places have to stand out for you to revisit- and this place does.

On a miserable day we found this eatery by the banks of the River Dee, good place to watch the world go by whilst eating a good lunch accompanied with a good ale served by pleasant staff willing to help Good range of food given it was lunchtime and good wheelchair access which was necessary. On a good day I'm sure given the location it's a busy place, but, deservedly, one to try

Superb little place, service very friendly and attentive, but also un-rushed. The place was super clean, the English breakfasts, Smoked salmon and eggs were all absolutely lovely. Coffee was also very good - next time we’ll try the cakes ! Definitely highly recommended and we can’t wait to try their luxury 2 bedroom apartment overlooking the river!

My wife and I returned to Chester after many years living in the South West of England. When we lived in Chester we used to regularly enjoy a walk down by the river after crossing on the Handbridge suspension bridge on foot. We walked along the riverside looking for a suitable cafe to have some lunch and eventually we came across The Moorings, which is a very spacious cafe overlooking the river serving a wide range of hot and cold food and drinks. The service was excellent and the food delicious. We also noted that they have an apartment that they rent out on a short term basis which would be a great location for a city break.

This restaurant is situated in a beautiful setting by the river. A quiet spot but with a great view of passing boats and wildlife. Tables inside and outside. Food and drinks were lovely. Home made cakes delicious..we had cream teas after our mains. Staff today were very friendly and efficient. Highly recommend.

We stopped here for lunch in August 2023 and can't wait to return. The waitress was so knowledgeable about the gluten free items. My wife is Coeliac but that was not a problem like it is in most restaurants. We all had a really tasty lunch food was hot and plenty of it. Nice to sit out by the river on a warm sunny day.

Stopped here for breakfast and sat on the riverside ‘terrace’ what a beautiful spot!!!! Limited menu on the terrace but the breakfast barm was delicious! Would definitely visit again.

Wow, what a little gem. My wife had looked up before and we were so pleased that we did. On the Dee waterfront this must be idyllic in the summer sitting outside. Capuchino and cake what could be better. Definitely worth a detour

This was our 2nd visit this month to this riverside cafe in Chester. Lovely staff, great sandwiches and cakes (hot food options are available). The home cooked ham filled a lovely sandwich on bloomer bread with a touch of salad crisps and piccalilli on the side. After a walk around Chester, or not as the case may be, this is a super place for a bite to eat, which is both reasonably priced and very welcoming. It won’t be long before we is it again. 😊 Thank you.

Had a delicious breakfast at this charming cafe in Chester. Would highly recommend Eggs Benedict whilst my husband had a gorgeous full English. All accompanied by orange juice and a very generous pot of tea.
