Stayed for 2 nights , the room was clean and comfortable. The breakfasts were very good and evening meals also very good. Staff and the owner were friendly and welcoming. We had 4 dogs between us and found it very dog friendly with lovely walks from the pub. When back in the area will definitely stay again.

Visited on new years day. I ordered fish & chips for my son and I, my wife had cumberland sausage and mash. Fish was probably the worst i have ever had, it was so overcooked it was actually hard to eat, ended up sending it back. My wife said the mashed potatoes were dry, like they had been pre cooked but sausage was nice. The service really is non existent. I had to go up and order as no one came to the table, had to go up and order drinks as again no one asked. The staff really didn’t seem to have any direction or know what they are supposed to be doing. Each time i went to order they were all stood behind the till. The food never seems to change even when they advertise they have a new chef. I can honestly say ive never had a good meal at this pub which is dissapointing as it has so much potential

Just had a sample of what is to come at the moorcock in the new year and am deeply impressed. A new chef serving excellent produce cooked really well. Started with lobster toast and bisque, followed by the best beef carpaccio with blue cheese and pickle I have had and then pork belly and tenderloin with burnt apple reduction, followed by scallop on a bed of celeriac and then sea bass and carrots in butter. Finishing with a layered pancake cake. Omg think I will be going back every week.

Recommended to us as they have a new chef. The food was okay, and we were given taster off the new menu to be launched next year, which was fantastic. The only problem was the front of house service, which was poor at best. The three young lads serving food and drink were really nice but clueless.

One of our favourite places to visit. The food is fantastic and very reasonable for the high quality that you get. On this visit we ordered the salmon and prawn salad, fish and chips and kids chicken nuggets. The salads were lovely with generous amounts of salmon/prawns. The fish was delicious, nicer than some fish and chip shops I was told, and my children cleared their plate of chicken nuggets which is a testament to how much they enjoyed them. We have always found this a very warm and welcoming establishment, with friendly staff. Would definitely recommend a visit.

Our meals were ok, but perfunctory. I got a pie which looked like a chippie pie, a small serving of chips, many of which were the hard ends of the potato, and a spoonful of frozen peas. It wasn’t a bad meal, but £13.99? Add a bottle of very ordinary house wine for £19.99. Definitely poor value!

The food is not like it used to be. Cheaper cuts of meat etc. The service was okay but no one seemed like they wanted to be there, which is understandable as they were all young kids. I’m sure the last think they wanted was to work on a Saturday night. Management know this and usually only employ them to keep costs down. Shame really as we used to like it here.

Oriental noodles were just that (noodles) dressed in toasted sesame oil apparently. WOW.I ordered fillet steak that was overcooked and swimming in sauce. Pedí un poco más de jamón o queso o algo para eso, pero era siempre con una suntuosa plowmans de jamón, carne y tres tipos de queso, junto con apple, celary chutneys, encurtidos y, ensalada, y un lado de patatas fritas! My boyfriend and I used to dine here at least twice a month. We always felt the food was very high end pub food and the menu offered plenty of variety, in fact we used to always be spoilt for choice. On our last visit I was left a little disappointed with the food. I had ordered the fish pie and it was very poor to say the least, watery mash, hardly any fish in the pie, no sign of a prawn or cheese on the top of the mash! It was pretty tasteless to say the least. My boyfriend ordered the fish and chips which to be fair he said was very very tasty and I have to say I did have food envy! I think perhaps there has been a change in Chefs... the food just did not have the edge to it that it usually had on previous visits. The staff as always are very very attentive, so no gripes there - we will return in the Autumn as it is a pleasant pub, I just hope that on our next visit there is more to pick from on the menu and there is more attention to detail with the food presentation.

Very disappointed, Have been going to the Bulls Head at Ogden Newhey where they serve a decent beef pudding with gravy and cheaper. Will be giving The Moorcock a miss for a while.

Went to the moorcock for lunch with friends. The bar staff were polite and that is the only positive comment I could say about the whole experience. We ordered food, which took a long time to arrive and when it did it was not satisfactory! Three of our party ordered rag puddings, which we were looking forward to greatly. When the meals arrived we all started to tuck in, only to realise that the mince meat in the puddings was overdosed with pepper. So much pepper in fact that our mouths were actually burning and it was completely inedible! Also the chips that accompanied our meals were over cooked. When we called over the waitress (turned out to be owner) to ask for a new meal we didn't even get an apology! New menus were shoved in our faces along with a rude comment about it being not to peppery for her! When we tried to order new meals another rude comment about pesto having pepper in it and 'would we cope with that?' We cancelled those meals immediately and asked for the bill, which when it came had extra drinks on that were not ours. Worst dining experience I've ever had! Can't believe the owner of a restaurant could be so rude to customers! Shocking.

I have been here many times and always made welcome from all the staff and locals. Always someone to chat to and views to die for. We decided on food this evening ( Sunday 13 the April ) after hearing a new chef has taken over the kitchen. Wow! What a difference !! Far better choice of food to choose from and so much tastier. The portions are ample and I highly recommend the fuel chicken for 2 deal. Excellent value for money... would recommend the Moorcock Inn and will be there when the Tour de France visits Rochdale..

Went for a steak saturday night was gonna go to the whitehouse 100 yards up but it was absolutely packed . Went down to the moorcock instead the pub part was nice good pint everything you would hope for in a boozer. Found the resteraunt to be the total opposite . should really have walked out when we saw how empty it was on a saturday night . Ordered sirloin steak medium rare it came out lookin like it had survived the nuclear holocaust chips burned on the outside raw on the in.Complained to the waitress about my steak she did not look in the least bit surprised an did not offer to fix it in any way . I hate having to complain at resteraunts makes me feel bad. Anyway as i complained the couple on the next table piped up about how bad there food was too an we all ended up havin a bit of a chuckle about it . Beautiful old pub in a great location being totally mismanaged an run into the ground . A chef who cannot even manage a medium rare sirloin in an empty place needs sackin you ask me. Would never go here again unless i heard it had been taken over an was under new management would never recommend either. litterally the worst food and service i can remember.

The Moorcock offers a real Northern welcome the minute that you walk through the door. This is a traditional pub, which also has rooms and serves foodOne menu operates throughout, but you can eat in the restaurant, at the bar or in the garden (weather permitting) which has great views over the valley belowLive football is shown on a big TV, real beer is served (at a good temperature) and the clientele and staff are all real people without a scrap of pretentionThe food is locally sourced and is prepared on the premises, there are some wondeful specials, including an amazing lamb shank in lightly minted gravy and a lamb rag pudding (Lancashire Dim Sum if you didn't know)I have stayed here before, but not recently, however, it is a really excellent place to grab some food, and maybe a drink, after work

We visited this moorland pub on a cold windy day. Upon entry you walk through the pub to get to the restaurant, It looked a nice cosy and friendly place to have a drink if you like countryside gems. Having a sign selling piglets on the wall, farmers, walkers and young lads and lasses supping their ales and wine, with dogs tucked under chairs, their eyes glued to the rugby which was showing on the TV screens. We were quickly shown a table next to the window. It was incredibly clean and nice decor, and although we didn't have the moorside view, we could still see plenty of hills and to my sons delight, a tractor coming in and out of the car park! We ordered quickly and our food arrived in good time. I had the Cheese & onion pie with handcut chips, this was really good done to perfection which is good for a fussy veggie like me. My son had hot dog which was served in a crusty bun, and my husband had a steak and Ale pie which he said was good too. It had loads of meat in it and a nice top. The cakes looked to die for, but we were far too full to manage one this time. We'll be back soon to try the 'mega hot chocolate' along with a cake soon. Service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. I can't fault the place at all. We will definitely return. Thank you.

We have eaten here a couple of times before when in the area and have had good, well cooked food. We were not disappointed on this occasion as the food was every bit as good as on our previous visits. the food took a some time to arrive, but not an inordinate length, which suggests it was being prepared & cooked as ordered, (rather than being microwaved as ordered). The only downside from our last visit is that the early diner menu seems to have shrunk to 1 item, although if you wanted steak for 2 with a bottle of wine, £20 seems a very reasonable price to pay for it. The prices aren't cheap, but not expensive either.

Unfortunately it seems the food and service has gone drastically downhill, I have eaten here on numerous occasions before and have always been pleased with the food. Avoid the chicken, corriander and lemon kebabs ! these are the most tasteless, dry, minced chicken kebabs served with a very dry / old pitta bread. There isnt even any flavour coming from the corriander within the Kebabs, 2 of our party had these and were both dissapointed. We ordered pudding hoping these would be up to the usual standard but again just awful, the apple pie pastry was raw, and soggy and obviously had just been warmed up in the microwave, I sent this back as it was inedable. 2 of the party had the carrot cake which looked delicious but unfortunately was hard and old / stale. When we told the waitress about these issues we did not even get an apology or anything from her and she pratically threw the profiteroles at myself when I ordered them as a replacement for the soggy apple pie, she did not smile at us once, also we had to go find someone to order desserts and to pay and it wasnt exactly busy. One of the party again told the main waitress about our issues with the food on paying but again she did not seem that interested, we did however notice a new carrot cake had put in the display cabinet. Apparently you are safe with the scampi and chips but its very hard to get something wrong you just throw in the deep fat fryer ! We have all agreed this will be last time we visit here for lunch again, terrible food, terrible service but on possitive note nice view !

As a starter at just under a fiver I wasn't expecting much, but when it arrived I was shocked. I was presented with two ridiculously small pieces of deep fried brie and a small dollop of cranberry sauce, it looked like it was prepared for a child! and i was a little embarrassed eating it.Definitely NOT value for moneyAfter a disastrous Starter I was hoping my Main meal would be better but I was wrong! I was supposed to be having Peri Peri chicken but what I got was nothing like it and the chicken was dry and sometimes a bit tough and i wasn't enjoying it.To top it all off, my beer was flat.We won't be going back.

well what a disappointment. took MY WIFE SON AND DAUGHTER AND THERE SPOUSES for Sunday lunch roast turkey asked waitress under no circumstances that i didn't want any cabbage on or near my plate low behold i found a couple of pieces under my turkey. The turkey reformed warmed up not carved. the type you get in slices wrapped in plastic from a supermarket could somebody tell the chef you can not warm up cold meat it tastes disgusting and then try and disguise it with warm gravy and not much of it it came with a couple of warm roast potatoes a couple of warm new potatoes some really hard bendy carrots [al dente you are joking] and frozen peas. i don't believe a trained chef would serve this garbage. my wife had the rib of beef what a joke the same sliced up rubbish you find in slices in a supermarket could have been any thing. but looked like beef tough and very fatty again this had been warmed up it has that distinct taste of reheating you would be better of serving it cold and putting hot gravy on it and i mean hot not the warmed up stuff they gave us. my children [both adults ] had the slow roast lamb shank arrived within 10 minutes of ordering is that slow or is that fast both said it was very fatty i left it at that did not want to spoil my wife's birthday so did not complain to the management. sweets as nobody was full 4 sweets where ordered. went to pay the bill asked how much it was paid and no receipt was offered so couldn't check my bill when i asked for one she said Oh i can write you one out if you can wait. will not return this is a fair review and i hope the management take note and maybe try out the stuff they serve its just good food ruined

The Moorcock Inn has stood the test of time and has been around for ages. Explain to people where it is and they instantly know the pub. I've passed it loads of times and until very recently I had never been in. The location is second to none, its up through Littleborough on the way up to Blackstone Edge. The pub has lot of character and no doubt lots of history. On entering the pub my expections were not met. The decor is a little dated but to its credit the bar atmosphere is good. The menu is varied with a "Specials Board" too. The food is nothing out of the ordinary but ok. I hate pubs/restaurants where they hardly give you much, well at the Moorcock it's the opposite. For me they give you too much. Having too much on your plate is as bad as having too little. The staff were very friendly and attentive and the service was good. One odd aspect about ordering your food is that you have to go to what can only be described as a cashier sat at a kiosk!! If you pay by credit card (which I didn't) they take the card off you and keep it. Now I know there are some untrustworthy people about but I wouldn't trust leaving my card with strangers!!! That aside, my experience was average. Would I go back again? Probably yes but only for a drink not for a meal.
