I booked online and wanted 1.30 or 2.00m, but the earliest was 2.45pm. When we arrived the place was pretty empty. We could have just turned up. Our party consisted of 4 adults and one child who had just turned 3 years. We were at the Mole Inn to celebrate my daughter’s birthday. We ordered a white wine, 2 orange and lemonades, an apple juice, tonic water, with ice and lemon. No lemon provided and the party who arrived after us were served first even though we had a young child waiting. We ordered 2 belly pork roasts and 2 chicken roasts. Our child wouldn’t eat a full meal so we ordered him a Yorkshire pudding. (£4) All the Yorkshire were dry like cardboard and the potatoes were rather hard. Overall the meals lacked flavour. Some sage and onion stuffing may have given the chicken mole flavour. didn’t appear As we hadn’t been given enough gravy, we ordered more. Two quite small jugs arrived. (£2 each) even though they didn’t give us enough in the first place. I made a coffee and walnut birthday cake. It was on a cake board with candles and matches. They wanted £15 for what they call cakeage!!! This is to prepare the cake!!!! 🤨 We were all shocked and took the cake home. We ordered desserts. Mine was a ginger sponge with sauce. My son-in-law ordered a chocolate fondant and had the choice of crème anglaise and ice cream. I asked if I could have crème anglaise with my ginger pudding. I was told no, as they were all measured out, I then asked for cream, I was told No, the pudding comes only with ice cream and it goes very well with the sponge. 😏 The place lacked any kind of ambience. The bill was just under £177, that included a service charge that was around £17. We won’t be going back there. We think they’ve got carried away in thinking they are high end when really they are pretty big standard. ice cream.

Based on good reviews we took the family for Sunday lunch. Couldn’t have been more disappointed. Service was totally non-existent. We had to prompt for our order to be taken and ended up leaving almost 2 hours later after just 1 course - nobody came to take our dessert orders, despite asking for menus. The food certainly wasn’t worth waiting for. It seemed like all the veg had been pre-plated and the meat added later. Barely warm, portions not overly generous, and was not helped by having to wait another 10 minutes for horseradish and mint sauce to arrive (that were virtually thrown on the table without a word from the server) Certainly did not merit more than 1-star

Service was appallingly slow (to the point that we felt simply ignored the entire time and were never checked on) and food well below average. A shame as we had eaten here previously (albeit a while ago) and enjoyed it. We visited for a special occasion and planned a big meal, but were only able to have one course and one drink each after being totally ignored by staff the entire time we were there. We would have ordered more drinks and dessert but gave up on expecting any attention and left instead. The only positive point was the speed at which the food arrived after ordering - suspiciously fast and clearly pre-plated Sunday lunches resulting in lukewarm, dry food. I expected much more from the prices and based on previous experience.

This was a birthday treat for my 92 year mother-in -law . We'd heard of the reputation of the Mole for some time, but decided that today October 22nd was the right event to sample the fine fare! We started with a shared "nibble" of salt and pepper squid, one of my favourites, it was delicious with a roast garlic mayo dip. We then had a different main each - I had the sirloin steak , my wife had a pork belly dish and birthday girl had an Irish lamb stew - all the dishes were well presented and out-of-this-world!! We were quite full from the mains, but decided to just look at the dessert menu, we then had a chocolate fondant (shared with my other half) and b/d girl had sumac roasted plumbs! The desserts were amazing! What a wonderful treat, and to top it all b/d girl had a candle lit on top of her dessert! Well done to all at The Mole especially Elenita, we'll be back!!

Very bad experience at The Mole Inn today. We have met relatives there before as the pub lies between our two homes, travelling a significant distance for what should have been a lovely family meal. Sadly it was spoilt by downright rude and aggressive behaviour from two of the waiting staff. There seems to be a culture of aggressive table reclamation in place from diners who have yet to finish their meal. The restaurant was part empty and we were approached prior to finishing our meal off when about to order final drinks. We were told very firmly we must vacate the table. This was well before the time slot as advertised was up and after a relatively short meal. Following instructions we paid up after a rather hasty and aggressive payment demand was made. We left the table as directed but asked a more senior staff member if there was anywhere we could sit for the drinks. She then consulted the computer and said that the junior staff member was new and was wrong to have told us to leave as the table wasn’t needed for about 40 minutes, we could go back for that time. We did so and ordered teas and coffees. They arrived about 20 minutes later. A few minutes after they arrived and before we could drink them the more senior staff member came over and said that subsequent diners had arrived early. Therefore we had to vacate the table again. We scalded our throats and paid up and left as instructed a second time over. What an appalling customer service attitude this place has. Clearly some diners overstay their welcome but this should never be allowed to result in a culture of customer bashing for all regardless of merit. They seemed more focussed on throwing people out than bothering to either check their own computer or stick to reservation times for arriving customers today. Horrible experience and we are four customers who will never return as a result.

We visited the Mole for our wedding anniversary, the starter (flat bread and hummus) was passable but not great. My main course was (lamb shoulder) was delivered tepid and the veg was cold, I mentioned this to the staff and this was sent back to the kitchen. It was then thrown in the microwave for a minute and brought back out. Resulting in a portion of rubbery lamb. My wife’s risotto was also not good at all

Sunday lunch was very disappointing, irrespective of [high] price. The two roast potatoes were hard, and there was something strange about the meat (he had beef, I had lamb) - it was as though it had been sliced before cooking and then grilled somehow; also my lamb tasted like it had been reheated. Very poor.

The majority of the meal consisted of shredded cabbage and Yorkshire pudding. the mash was no more than 1 teaspoon! We left very disappointed. We reserved a table to celebrate our anniversary at the mole Ona Monday evening & were surprised at how busy it was. As a consequence to this we had to wait over 10 -15 mins before we were offered drinks. We had olives & bread (very dry!) which we didn’t get charged for because of the wait. Both of us had lamb chops from the specials. Th meal portions were small which was a shame because flavours were delicious. The exception being that the lamb chop (only had one on our plate!) was tough. It was over priced at £28. My chocolate brûlée was ok. My husband commented that rhubarb crumble was the best part of his meal. But very pricey desserts. Service charge was added to the bill so we felt obliged to pay it.

As with other reviewers, my only complaint is value for money. For example, £30 for a 6oz steak is a lot to pay when five slithers of meat are placed in front of you. It’s a pity, because they get everything else right here.

We were given a voucher for a Christmas present from our children which we used this evening. We have just had a really enjoyable experience. The two gentlemen serving us were extremely efficient and friendly. We had three courses which we don’t normally do but everything we ordered was really enjoyable. I am vegetarian but my husband eats everything. He had crab and lobster cakes to start, steak for main and rhubarb crumble for dessert. I had a starter from the special board which was asparagus with new potato’s, salad and a very tasty dressing. I then had to decide between the sweet potato bean burger or the roasted cauliflower and I went for the burger, then finished with a dessert from the specials which was chocolate fondant with salted caramel ice cream. We loved it all. We used to go to the Mole a lot but this is the first time we have been back for ages, we certainly will be returning again very soon.

We ordered seafood starters, which came quickly, were good sized & delicious. Then we chose the special chicken pie, steak, and the vegetarian option, with freshly cooked broccoli. All were well cooked and nicely presented. The wine was excellent too. The serve throughout was attentive, efficient and friendly. The dining area was busy, yet our evening was faultless and other diners seemed happy too. Not great for vegetarian / vegan customers. The Sunday lunch option was Roasted Cauliflower. Sadly it was not even seasoned, and was literally just a piece of cauliflower alongside a sparse plate of veg and a Yorkshire pudding. Veggie gravy was nice. Not worth £18 and I left feeling hungry. It’s a shame as plant based foods can be fantastic, but this was unimaginative and bland. Service was slow and the waiting staff weren’t great at dealing with the volume of customers. Would have given the food 5 stars were it not for the prices. Very expensive for a pub but delicious nonetheless. Partner had fish and chips, absolutely perfectly cooked fish with crispy batter and soft, flaky cod inside. Because the fish was placed on the chips (although they were more like wedges) they were a bit moist and not crispy. I had lamb stew with polenta from the specials board and it was one of the most delicious meals I've had! However, for £21 it was a very small portion and I could have eaten more. Appreciate lamb is expensive but more polenta please. Both had sticky toffee pudding for dessert. Meant to be with salted caramel ice cream but no issue with swapping for vanilla. Extensive wine list but, again, the prices! Nearly £10 for a large glass of the cheaper end of the menu for a bottle that probably cost the same amount. Overall, delicious food, amazing and friendly service but not it will cost you.

Came here for my partners birthday, he’d been wanting to visit for a while now. The whole group was disappointed. Service was poor, had to wait a long time between mains, getting desert menus and getting desert. Desert which was the sticky toffee and crumble was tepid. The crumble wasn’t a crumble with a buttery crumbly top. It was a seeded granola. This was not noted in the menu. The apple and pear contents was pink. This was apparently from the poaching liquor. We however had berries in it which again wasn’t mentioned on the menu. Even to catch someone’s attention to say something took a long time. Getting the bill took a long time, we had to stand at the bar in the end to get someone’s attention. And after all that we got the bill and they had already put on service charge. I’m sorry, I know there is a shortage of staff within the trade but if you automatically put a service charge on the bill then I think that attention should be made. Came here for dinner with a friend who had previously been and said how good the food was. He was wrong, the food here isn’t just good, it’s outstanding. A small and somewhat simple menu led to me ordering the pan cooked chicken breast. Chicken is something that people claim is easy to cook yet regularly ruin it. This chicken was piping hot throughout, succulent and moist with a delicate crisp to the outer skin. The mash was perfectly smooth and well seasoned. The veg was flavoursome and cooked on point. Not soggy and overcooked but not lukewarm and raw. The portion looked a little small when first put in front of me, but upon taking my final bite, the richness to portion size ratio was spot on as I was nicely full without being stuffed. This did inevitably lead me to wanting something sweet to finish off with. Enter the sticky toffee pudding (with custard for me, being a bit of a traditionalist). The portion size was definitely on the large side. It looked like a good solid spongy pudding as you would expect. Cutting into the sponge with my spoon, felt like cutting into a sponge as you would expect. Putting said sponge into my mouth took my tastebuds to a new level. The sponge melted away like sugar melting in a pan. The texture, the flavour, the perfect sweetness, everything about this pudding was incredible. In my 35 years of being a massive foodie who has been fortunate enough to eat quality food at highly rated restaurants across the world, this dessert stands firm as the absolute best I have ever had anywhere. It’s worth noting this is not just pub grub, so don’t expect to pay pub grub prices. From my perspective its not overly expensive (everyones perspective is different of course) and the prices reflect the quality and standard of food so don’t let that put you off. I will certainly be back and for anyone reading this review who might be considering a visit, stop thinking and just do. You wont be disappointed!

Really disappointing Sunday dinner for the price and good reviews! We arrived on time for our booking, but were told our table wasn’t ready yet, it ended up being 20 mins after our booking time when we sat down! We got some bread and butter, which was good, but we were disappointed to be told bluntly that lamb roasts had run out, and so had cauliflower cheese. We were lucky to have the last two beef roasts (table next to us were told beef was out too!) Our mains then arrived, before we had finished our bread - it felt pretty rushed. The beef was great. Tasted fab and cooked really well. For £21 I’d expect a large enough portion to not need sides, but the main came with 2 (!) roast potatoes and about a table spoon of mashed roast veg, Yorkshire pudding and some sautéed leek. We ordered extra potatoes to fill us up, but these were pretty tough. Just a bit underwhelming. We were offered a dessert menu, and told the crumble was out. Then ignored until we managed to ask for the bill. Not sure if we just came too late (3ish) but really disappointing that some key items weren’t available and the service seemed very disjointed and rushed! Felt like we were an inconvenience the whole time (despite being quiet and polite!) Understand it’s busy and the waiters were trying their best but seemed poorly managed.

Had a very enjoyable Sunday lunch here a few months ago with my wife and mother in law and despite booking short notice my wife and I managed to be accommodated again , albeit with a Noon dining time. We were told upon sitting down the table would need to be vacated by 1.30pm, which we understood. Although we had to ask to order drinks and then food as we were aware of the short timeframe. We needn’t had worried as the halloumi nibbles, which was the highlight of the meal came in double quick time , followed by the mains, simply placed on the table, before we even had chance to finish the halloumi. Again we had to ask twice for English mustard to accompany the dinner , which was very average at best, Ok, but fatty beef, watery gravy and bland , unseasoned vegetables, 2 overcooked roast potatoes and a sad looking Yorkshire pudding. I’d have been happy to make the point that the meal wasn’t as expected but at no time did any member of staff come to ask how the meal was. I must add at this time the tables around us that all had appetisers , were getting a little break before mains. Including next doors table who when we left at 1.20pm were still in the middle of mains, despite like us being told to vacate by 1.30pm. All in all very poor for £90 with 1 shared starter 2 roasts with a couple of extra sides , 1 shared ice cream, glass of wine and a beer. I did make a point to remove the 10% service charge tagged on as other than actually having food and drink brought to the table , which I think is the idea of a restaurant , we had none. I’ll stick to The Lamb in Little Milton in future.

Since last April, when I wrote a glowing review regarding the food at this establisment, things seem to have changed dramatically and certainly not for the best. Obviously the chef is not the same and the food is now, at best, average: much less choice, no originality at all in the menu, unrefined flavours and very small portions. I went with the 2 same friends as last April and the 3 of us agreed. The belly of pork we chose was a small slice with a little bit of broad beans underneath and nothing else. As I was still hungry after that, I asked for some bread and what I was given were 6 extremely thin slices from a tiny baguette arranged in a circle on a plate! Then the 2 portions of cheese that I asked for (as both portions of pork and of bread had obviously failed to satiate me) were also ridiculously small, barely big enough for 2 mouthfulls each but for £4.50 a portion. The same applied for the desserts that both my friends had: one scoop of ice cream each, for £9.00, the same as my two tiny bits of cheese. Really this is not acceptable and we certainly will not be back. I fear for the reputation of that restaurant which used to be one of the best around Oxford. Not any longer!

It's been a few years since my last visit but I had received good comments from various friends in the meantime. Jonny Parke had been the Head Chef (now of the Black Lane Tavern, Woodstock) and the food had excellent, imaginative and worth travelling some distance. Upon my arrival, I was warmly greeted and was immediately asked if I wished to sit at my table. Being some 25 minutes early than the agreed time with my son (55 minutes early for the booking time), I really didn't wish to sit at a table waiting when there was a fire and a comfortable seat. Unfortunately the small sofa which was taken up by the pub dog, and chair are the only areas of seating except for stools at the bar. Regrettably, as the sofa and chair were by the front door, an icy blast whipped through every time the door opened. My son arrived and once more we were asked if we wanted to go to our table (still 25 minutes before we were due). When I explained this, the waitress was extremely clipped and quite rude and decided to argue about the time of my reservation! The meal was a huge disappointment. The 2 members of staff were rushed off their feet and so, other than having plates thrown in front of us, there was no service, no pleasantries, no care or interest. The menu was limited and the food was bland and uninteresting. I get hugely frustrated by establishments similar to the Mole that insist on serving fish and chips and burgers for dinner - maybe this is their forte. I don't go out to dinner to eat this style of unimaginative cooking! The 2 staff were so busy and inattentive that, in the end, I had to get up and stop one of them to ask for the bill. When the surly waitress reappeared, I was proffered the credit card machine with no dialogue on interest in our culinary experience. Would I return: no. Would I recommend: definitely not. What a shame.

Nice quaint little pub restaurant with a warm welcome and delicious food. We came here for our anniversary lunch and enjoyed the specials (seabass) Generous portion size. Only problem was the waitress forgot my dessert which arrived after my wife had finished her. But without me asking, they kindly removed it from the bill.

Dropped in for lunch without a reservation and were able to be seated (2 of us). It was nicely busy, cosy, well decorated and clean. The lunch menu is small but varied. It would have been helpful to have the allergens marked on the menu as I'm gluten and lactose intolerant. I had the chickpea burger but was disappointed. It came out looking rather lonely with a small cup of fries and nothing else. The burger itself wasn't great. My partner had the beef burger which looked better. He said it was juicy and tasty, but again, only a cup of chips on the side for £19 felt a bit overpriced. The service was good, the staff are friendly and the pub itself is lovely. Maybe we'll try again another time.

I have often called in for lunch on the way back from Oxford, it's always good. On this occasion I arrived at 2:17 and asked if they were still serving lunch. 'Sorry mate, we stopped serving 2 minutes ago'. I shall not return, and at the age of 80m I certainly do not enjoy being addressed by an over confident young man in that manner.

Our first visit to The Mole and sadly - probably our last. Cannot fault the place itself and the service given - it’s the food that was a great disappointment. “Spiced dusted squid” was tasteless with no sign of any spice at all. The “Slow roast pork belly” also lacked flavour and seasoning. The choice of chicory and salad alongside the pork in my opinion, didn’t really go. The dishes were cooked well but both were missing that very important element - good taste.

The food was excellent and the staff could not have been more helpful. They arranged great seating for us, the pub is quite large but different areas are sectioned off well so it feels cosy. The selection of wines and pint drinks was very good. The sorbet was amazing, next level good. The loos were clean and I would go back

The pub is situated in a location that is quite difficult to get you if you do not have a car so this is one of the reasons will be difficult for me to get back to. They managed to accommodate a big group without pre-ordering so this was great. However the food felt quite small for the portions and taste was ok (chickpea burger). The atmosphere was lovely and quite cosy but sadly did not leave enough impression to want me to come back.

The pub is beautiful, nice outside area. Parking available on site. Inside is smaller than expected, we were in a big group where in had to be split in 3 tables. The service was good, they managed to sort the group out and serve food in reasonable time. I don’t know if my expectations were high as I saw the online reviews but the food was average, good presentation but not bad taste.

Very poor pasta. Asked if the crab linguine could be doubled up to a main course, which they did. The bisque was glutinous, sweet and had only a faint taste of crab. The crabmeat itself in the pasta was none too pleasant and the linguine was so overcooked it could have come out of a tin. Are they reheating pasta? Dear oh dear. And it was all so lacking in flavour that I resorted to adding pepper, which marginally improved matters. Can't understand how any chef would have thought that plate of food OK to send out. Pretty mean quantity, too, for the price. My partner's pork belly was cooked well, but underseasoned and the potato likewise, and a pretty small portion. What we enjoyed most was the beer, and the delicious bread and butter. We complained about the pasta, and they were good enough to knock off the price of our beer.

A nice country pub. Staff were friendly. A bit off the beaten track but popular. Food was good with respect to the Mole burger and the seabass, although that could have been a little hotter but we were sat outside. Dessert was not good, we both had brulee, one was OK but the other had not set properly. Additionally, we were not told that they had run out of shortbread. After bringing this the the server's attention we were given a discount.

Really nice warm individual atmosphere. Food was great and just what we needed before a long day the following. We overnight-ed in room 3 which had everything needed. I Managed to run an international meeting at 0600 so wifi was strong. Breakfast next day was really good and ready when we asked for it. We decided on Sunday morning to try the Red Lion for lunch, and booked a table for 1330. We arrived and were met by efficient staff who were expecting us and offered us a choice of table. Drinks were ordered from a knowledgeable waiter and arrived quickly, mine being a very well-kept pint from tge local Amwell Springs brewery. We both chose beef from an extremely well thought-out menu which again arrived after only a short wait. The meat was beautifully cooked and presented on a large plate with very well cooked greens, carrots and a freshly-made Yorkshire puddings. Sides of cauliflower cheese and roast potatoes were excellent, probably the best roasties I've had, and the horseradish was similarly delicious. We both cleared our plates and the side dishes. Utterly gorgeous, go and see for yourself.
