The Mitre Boutique Pub in Manchester

This place has a lot of history given it is right besides the 500 year old Wellington bar and Sinclairs that’s famous for waitress Molly who throws cold water if you stay behind too long at the bar. They have good refreshing beer and plenty of screens inside to catch a game if you’re interested, Service was friendly for a place that is so busy and central.

called in a glass of wine (£9.50 welcome to Manchester). Bar maid asked if I wanted ice in it? Said no and asked if the wine was cold, she said yes. wasn't it was room temp so I asked for some ice (easy life) but ice in wine WTF??? There is only one job whith white wine put it in the fridge. Walked upstairs and was told I couldn't sit there as it was for dinning despite 6 plus free tables. Overall warm wine and a Luke warm welcome.

The Mitre Bar and Restaurant is part of a hotel. Right beside the Cathedral so in a great location. Nice selection of beers and good service.

As a family we love the Mitre and make sure we visit every time we are in Manchester. I went yesterday with my two boys for some lunch, I ordered two sandwiches and a bowl of chips, after waiting quite a while I mentioned at the bar we still hadn’t received our food, ten minutes later it still hadn’t arrived and no staff member had been to see us to apologise or explain so I went to the bar again and asked for a refund and mentioned that it must have been over an hour since we ordered. Our food arrived as I was at the bar so as we were so hungry we sat down and ate only to have a member of staff come over with the till receipt and tell me “that you ordered your food at 14.02pm and it is now 14.55pm “to which I said do you not think that is a long time for two sandwiches and a bowl of chips???, apparently the pub was really busy and that’s how long it takes !!!!, the pub wasn’t busy at all and I would hate to order food there when the pub WAS busy !, brilliant customer service to confront a customer with the till receipt to prove it wasn’t over an hour we had to wait it was 53mins instead and then we were offered a free drink which I declined, very passive aggressive.

A couple of us called in here early on a Thursday afternoon and had a really nice time. In this historic part of the city, there is a nice outside seating area which we started at. Unfortunately, the rains came and we had to go inside, but the interior of the pub is also very nice indeed. The service was great. There is an excellent selection of beers and we were struggling to choose so the barman voluntarily gave us a couple of tests which was much appreciated. Not a part of Manchester we come too often, but maybe another visit is on the cards as we really enjoyed being in among such history.

Great place for a drink after or even before an event ( my case shopping) . The drinks are Manchester prices like every were else. The only issue i have is the staff never smile or seem happy.

This is a nice bar, although nearly £12 for a beer and glass of wine does seem a bit steep! On the plus side, lots of seating and has a friendly atmosphere, so well worth a visit.

Excelente ubicación cerca de la estación de tren de Victoria, Metrolink paradas y rodeado de tiendas, bares y casas de comidas, además de tener su propio bar y restaurante. La habitación daba a la catedral, que fue una gran vista. La habitación estaba bien. Amplio, pero básico. La alfombra estaba un poco cansado, mugrienta. También tuve que usar tapones para los oídos como las paredes muy finas. TV y hervidor de agua. El baño era de un tamaño decente pero poco desgastado. Estuve con mi novia y otra pareja después de encontrar un bono de groupon. Fotos parecía realmente bueno. La zona del bar donde entra es genial, mucha gente y un ambiente muy moderno, creando un ambiente agradable. Sin embargo, al entrar en el pub, que era como un viaje de 20 años atrás en una máquina del tiempo. Esto no es para decir que tenía un antiguo y rústico, más como un no ha sido redecorado o cambiado en 20 años el ambiente. Se sentía como un edificio completamente diferente a la animada zona de bar. El personal era bastante amable y atento, no tengo ninguna queja con ellos. La comida llegó bastante rápido y era decente, nada sorprendente. Las porciones eran de un buen tamaño. Selección de bebidas era muy limitado y caro, pero era suficiente para mantenernos felices. Realmente creo si invirtieran el tiempo en actualizar el área actual de comer para igualar el resto del lugar, sería un pequeño restaurante en una excelente ubicación. Sin embargo, dado el promedio de comida y bebidas caras, no lo volver aquí para una comida como lo es ahora. Parece un lugar estupendo para bebidas antes de salir por la noche o gig!

Mi compañero", dijo bien. . .La comida llegó, mi hamburguesa era comestible, aunque era hecha y seca, en una pelea en seco, con un montón de patatas fritas.Hamburguesa con queso de cabra de mi compañero era "diferente". Básicamente una losa de queso de cabra disfrazada de hamburguesa?Mi otra porción de corte "mates dos veces frito patatas fritas" era exactamente el mismo que el 'patatas fritas que habíamos recibido? Le pedí al camarero tenía estas patatas cortadas a mano" frito doble" sale de la misma bolsa congelador económico como nuestro propio? Estuvo de acuerdo y se reembolsa por las patatas fritas.En general, el pub está bien para tomar una copa, no me molestaría con la comida, la nuestra era caro y bastante pobre. .

Llamado para un almuerzo rápido. Pedí una botella de Sauvignon Blanc, sólo tenían un barato Chardonnay, buen comienzo. El vino no estaba frío. Sandwiches ordenados que tardaban años en llegar, parecía estar bien presentado, sándwiches estaban bien pero las patatas fritas eran pasada y realmente poco hecha, pobre de verdad.

Decided to pop by when we knew they had pieminster pies. Ordered half a pint of Heineken and a Deer Stalker pie with gravy and it was so good. Nice typical British pub for a good snack and a drink. 10 pounds for all.

Booked a meal for 4 Saturday at 7.00 the pub had no john smiths beer great start. The menu was a lot less than advertised we had 3 choices We had to wait one hour then asked for our meal when it came one was cold and sids cafe could have done better for the rest.The sweet again we had a choice of 2.We complained numerous times to the manager reply was I'm sorry.This was booked through groupon just got the bog standard reply of them.Warning to other people we were not the only ones complaining

Unfortunately there were a few issues with our visit which was disappointing as I was really looking forward to the meal given I'd chosen to listen to all the positive reviews on trip advisor and not any of the poor ones!When my husband and I arrived they didnt have our booking noted down despite me having booked online through the Groupon booking and thankfully i had printed the booking confirmation and luckily they sat us down anyway. Having read the reviews online and pursued the menu beforehand online on the website I was all set to order the scampi starter which came highly recommended on this site and the cheese and onion pie. However on being given the menu it was a shortened version of he fill menu and only had two starters available, both spicy options so perhaps it would be worth having a non spicy option but my husband and I chose to order nachos but requested these without the jalepeno peppers and spicy salsa. This was noted by the waitress. The drink came almost immediately which was the one good part of our visit. When the food came out - 35 minutes later they brought both the starters (which they had got both wrong as both had jalapeños and spicy salsa but as we'd been waiting so long we started to eat. I let the waitress know in case we'd got somebody else's starters and she apologised.Also when our started arrived they brought our main meals too and asked if this was ok to which I replied no as I wanted my main after my starter.The mains were taken back whilst we had our starters thinking that we would get fresh mains served. We was very wrong. The mains turned up another 35 minutes after the starters had been cleared away and it was the original mains they tried to deliver with the starters kept warm. Fish and chips were nice but around ten chips and a small fish and a small Ramikin of mushy peas and one of tartar sauce. Was sufficient as I'd had a starter otherwise I might have been disappointed.My husband ordered a burger for my main and it was that small he had to go looking for it. If he hadn't ordered bacon and cheese to go with it he'd have been bitterly disappointed.By that point we had had enough so quickly ate the warmed up mains and left. Overall it took around an hour and a quarter for our visit of a starter and main each.The staff were very pleasant but there were at least three waiting staff and one kitchen manager so it didn't explain why we had so many issues.Suppose you get what you pay for and unfortunately it didn't really pay off this time. A great location for the arena and thankfully we had left plenty of time before our show.Hopefully it was just an off night and others have a better experience. I believe if you don't know the issues you can't resolve them so good luck with that. Not sure if we'd visit again now unless there was a definite improvement assured.

Visited The Mitre on Friday with two friends... We were starving so decided to check out their menu. I was surprised to see Pie minister in this place as I have visited this place a few times. We all decided to order a moo mother ship... SOOO AMAZING. The pies are absolutely out of this world. The waiter guy with a tattoo on his hand gave the best customer service we have received and I remember him from the last time we came in about a year ago cant remember his name. He talked us through the menu and suggested that as we were starving to go for the mothership which has mash peas gravy cheese and shallots on AMAZING!!!!. We also spoke to a guy called Dom he was funny and made us all laugh and enjoy our time in the Mitre. I must say you have to go in and try these pies you will not be let down. Also we shared a bottle of rose I think it was called wicked lady which was one of the best roses I have ever had.

Father and son trip to Etihad for late kick off meant we wanted to see second half of Liverpool v Swansea on TV and grab a bite. Very busy pub and we found seats by TV at the back with good view of great game. Wanting an Etihad burger meant we both went for the baked potato with tuna and our snack turned out to be more like a meal. Piping hot potato meant a slow eat which was just as well with goals going in so regularly. The constant flow of people going to their upstairs room suggesting the Mitre also does a great hotel trade as well as food trade. Good, honest food at budget prices at convenient location was the perfect base for our pre-match snack. Very friendly people and enthusiastic staff too. Nice place.

We bought a Sirloin steak meal for 4 from groupon. When we got there the restaurant was closed, so we sat in the bar area. It would have been nice if they had cleaned the table. The wine was the cheapest plonk possible, not very nice. The sirloin steak meal was also awful. The steak was not sirlin but over seasoned flattened frying steak. We all asked for medium rare, but what came was over done and so thin it would have been impossible to have medium rare. The so called hand cut chips were under cooked frozen (think the meat was all so frozen). We should have been warned as there was nobody else eating, the entire time we were there. We did inform the staff who were apologetic but did not offer any refund or discount. I did inform them that if I was paying and not had a voucher I would have refused to pay for the meal due to miss selling (tough meat instead of tender sirloin). We all had hot dogs on the way home due to such a small portion. All in all very dissapointing. Will never be going there again.

Stay over in the hotel and had lunch, i had jacket potato with tuna and mayp, very well presented with side salad and colesalw, good value for money and very tasty.

Recently been to Manchester for shopping trip. Stopped off for food lacally. Walking back to hotel we saw the 3 classic pubs in the square. All looked lovely but very busy we popped in here. Boy music loud . Mybe we just too old now. Anyway staff polite attentive etc.Drink choice good and prices.Small narrow pub outside space.

Whilst on a shopping trip today we had the misfortune to call in here for a beer and to meet up with friends,understandably with the Christmas markets and football fixture the bar was fairly busy as you would expect for this great location. Alas the staff were just not up to the task and were happy to work at one speed that was slow verging on reverse the beer quality for the lagers was fine unfortunately the ales I wanted to try were all off for some reason or other no explanation was offered!Whilst we sat back and watched the world go by we couldn't help but notice the significant amount potential customers entering waiting and the leaving to go into the old Wellington next door or Sinclairs which made us wonder if the staff at the mitre were maybe being paid by the other pubs? We must have in 1hour witnessed 35+customers leave in disgust (the owner must be making too much if he can't feel this).It was a shame today as this bar has bags of potential in a prime spot it was purely let down by its staff and for that the management must take responsibility.

Some quirky touches to the decor but a great friendly pub in the heart of the city, Food and drink are both reasonably priced too

Went as part of a meal and wine deal and good job. If I had paid the listed meal price I would have been very disappointed. Steak was fine but only accompanied by 6 chips. A mushroom and a bit of grilled tomato added little to meal. Our house white wine Australian Chardonnay very enjoyable. Another set of guests whilst there had the house red. They said it was so bad they had bought as an extra to their deal a glass of lemonade to dilute the taste.

I have visited this place on a couple of occasions and found it a nice place to visit. The staff are friendly and helpful and provide a good service. I had the fish and chips on both occasions which I thoroughly enjoyed. A nice place to visit

Lovely meal at a very reasonable price. Service was quick,friendly and efficient.Sit outside with a glass of wine and take a well earned break from shopping.This bar is well worth a visit

Arrived with my son for a non en suite only to find it was out of order so had to share with three different rooms.The bedroom wouldn't have looked out of place in a derelicted house it was awful, wall paper peeling off the walls windows wouldn't open it was boiling.It was unclean and disgusting.It was 17.30 and packed a band loades of people and the noise was horrendous.We left and booked elsewhere.

Ended up here after poor drinks in the Old Wellington next door, called for one and had a few, decent pint and good atmosphere - well worth a try if you are in the area

Great looking pub exterior with plentiful seating for sunny evenings.Upon entering its evident that this is not the traditional ale house that it seems from the outside. Tasteless decor, poor music and drab expensive lager.Better atmosphere, ale and prices can be found a small number of meters away from here.Disappointed.

Only popped into 'The Mitre' didn't get to try the food as it was a football weekend and the bar was busy. However, service was excellent and efficient, the bar appeared clean, well maintained and well stocked. Staff were friendly and helpful. Checked out the toilets - it was a bit of a trek from the end of the bar on the 'Arnedale' side of the pub, but again, the toilets were clean and well maintained.

Went there for evening drinks which are very cheap, bottle of prosecco around £20, pubs in the same are would charge £27. Decided to have some food and it was truly amazing ! for a pub ? no even for some restaurants ! we had chicken burger with bacon and melted cheese ! wow delicious !

Don't normally write reviews on these sort of forums I just write a letter of thanks or complaint. Decided to take advantage of the ling social deal and went a little unsure to the Mitre today with the wife for lunch, Well i need not have been apprehensive from the moment stepping in the place to leaving everything was simply fantastic. Great food and good portions coupled with excellent courteous friendly staff in particular a guy called Harry could not do enough. I would highly recommend anyone on a day out to the to Manchester city centre to call in and give it a go.......you will not be disappointed

We had a few drinks and dinner in here as we were staying in the hotel upstairsI had lamb shank with veggies and mash and my wife had cheese and onion pie with the best chunky chips you will ever have! The lamb shanks was really nice and tender and the mint gravy was aceStaff seemed friendly enough and polite definitely be returning when we're next in Manchester.

Walked in was refused to be serviced as till not opening! Wouldn't open a tab and basically told us to leave! Terrible customer service
