The rooms are a bit small and the layout is a bit crooked, and it can be a bit difficult to reach the rooms inside the hotel, there is a slight labyrinth atmosphere. Of course, since it is a historical building, it has structural difficulties. But the location is almost right in the middle of the city, so it's great. You will also be very comfortable if you choose the package that includes breakfast.

**TL; DR** ✅ Excellent central location ✅ Friendly staff ✅ Good breakfast options ✅ Reliable Wi-Fi throughout the property ⚠️ Not accessible for individuals with mobility issues due to steep stairs and uneven floors ⚠️ Outdated decor in need of updating ⚠️ Shared bathroom is unheated and small ❌ Some areas of the room had a thick layer of dust ❌ Entry requires buzzing each time you want to enter the building **Full Review** The Mitre Hotel is a charming establishment located within a historic building in the shadow of the cathedral in the city centre of Manchester. Access to the hotel is via a back entrance, which requires pressing a buzzer to enter. The reception is located on the first floor, where a second buzzer is needed for access. These buzzers are required each time you enter the building; a fob system would be a better solution. Check-in was straightforward. The primary guest was required to fill out a short form and provide ID along with a payment card—standard procedures for hotels. Our room was on the third floor, accessible via steep, narrow staircases. The hotel has no lift, making it inaccessible for anyone with mobility issues. While the hotel was decorated to a reasonably modern standard, the building's age was evident, with uneven and sloped floors, creaking staircases, and cracking plaster on the walls and ceilings. Rooms at The Mitre Hotel use a traditional key system. Our standard triple room was moderately sized and featured three single beds, a wall-mounted smart TV, a sink, a fan, an iron, and tea-making facilities. However, we did notice a thick layer of dust around the window. Soundproofing is minimal, and you hear people walking around from the rooms, but this should be expected with such an old building. The hotel’s free Wi-Fi provided good internet coverage and a reliable connection throughout the premises, giving average speeds—enough to stream YouTube at 1080p. However, access requires providing personal information, including DOB. The shared bathrooms, while compact and unheated, were well-stocked with toilet paper, hand wash, and air freshening spray. However, cleaning chemicals—such as bleach and floor cleaner—were left unsecured. Both third-floor bathrooms had power showers, but their performance varied—one was very hot and needed to be turned down, while the other was set to "Full" but still a little chilly. Breakfast can be purchased in advance or on the day at the hotel reception, where you will collect your voucher each morning. The service takes place in the bar area, and you can order from the menu with full table service. There are various options available, including vegan and vegetarian choices. Complimentary tea and coffee were provided; however, water was the only cold beverage available. Other drinks can be ordered at an additional charge. Our experiences with breakfast on the two days varied. On Friday, we arrived pretty late (around 10:30), and the service was not ideal, as the staff seemed more focused on transitioning the bar setup from breakfast to daytime service. We were informed that we could order anything from the breakfast menu, so we chose two Large Full English breakfasts and two glasses of juice. Although the food arrived after a reasonable wait, the drinks never came. On Saturday, we decided to go down earlier (around 09:30), and the service was much more organised. However, we were told that only the standard Full English was included in our voucher, and the large portion would incur an additional charge. Once again, the food took a bit of time to arrive, but it was evident that everything was made fresh to order, which is a positive aspect. This time, the drinks were also delivered. As for the food itself, I have no complaints; on both days, it was cooked to perfection and tasted exquisite. Overall, The Mitre Hotel provides good value for money (£87/night and £10.50 per breakfast), and I would consider staying here again.

There are 4 pubs here. This one is the most expensive. Twice the price of the Oyster Bar. I ordered a Black Heart and they tried to get me to buy a Guinness. Oh dear! Not impressed and can’t understand why they’re so expensive.

We arrived to the hotel and went to eat, they had -30% offer off all food, didn't happen. The rooms have timed heating so it's pretty chilly if the weather is cold. On breakfast you have 2 options which are traditional english breakfast or vegan version, the meal is pretty nice, but it took 40mins to get it on the first morning. There's like zero soundproofing in the building, so you will hear all the noise from the streets or the hallway. Also the hallway smells like mold or chloride, depends on the day. Anyway points for the location and price, could be worse.

Very good location straight out of the hotel and into Arndale Sentret and metro stop Exchange Square... The hotel room itself seemed a bit shabby with wall to wall carpeting on one floor that you had to search to find a place that wasn't awkward... The shower was shabby and with such a power shower where you have to stand throwing water on yourself to get pressure....It was also such that you had to book a time for breakfast...Stayed there for 1 week and booked 1030 every day (but was asked when I wanted to eat on the day of check-out and answered 0915) and 2 days before check-out when my son and I were going to eat at 1030 I delivered a breakfast note to 2 new faces in the bar and was told that I had booked until 0915 so we couldn't get breakfast that day (Of course match day so didn't have time to discuss had to just get away) The service generally seemed very good, but the one who stood in the bar this day struck me as downright grumpy and rude since they had a bit too much to do...Very high noise level in the evenings between 10-03pm, very loud between rooms and corridors and the bar downstairs. ..Service fell from 4 stars to 2 because of this with the breakfast.

The hotel is located in a 200-year-old building located next to Manchester Cathedral, an excellent location for reaching the city's main attractions on foot in a short time. However, the structure requires major renovation and maintenance. Our room was spacious, fairly clean and with very basic furniture. The bathroom needs to be renovated: the tub had several cracked tiles and the sink didn't drain the water properly (we reported this several times to the staff). In my opinion there were absolutely no heating problems, but as it is centralized and set to fixed times, if necessary the staff provides electric heaters and extra blankets on request. The staff is very kind. Breakfast is taken at the pub of the same name under the hotel. The choice is between classic or vegetarian English Breakfast, tea and instant coffee are included in the breakfast included formula, but if you want an espresso/cappuccino you have to pay separately. I would recommend this hotel only for the strategic location and the low price

The wet and cold room on the top of the building, just under the roof. Walls are mouldy, in the room just the sink. Toilet and bathroom is outside, you have to go via the common hallway. The window on the rubbish side, scaffolding is close all the view. Breakfast is not included, you have to pay extra price. 10:30 you have to leave. No parking, or even ability to park next to the hotel. Window is from the 19 century, works horrible. Just bells from the cathedral are perfect.

Due to its architectural style, it is more reminiscent of a tunnel system with small cabins, which is also part of the hotel's charm. Unfortunately the carpet is old, the room smells smelly and the house is quite audible, but given the low prices you can't complain. The location is perfect and the breakfast is also delicious.

My son (12) and I came on boxing day. Was told the kitchen closed at eight. The manager on duty informed me that last order was at 7:45. As a chef of a hotel the customer orders untill close. That's a £30 that the hotel didn't get. As we were watching the match after 8 we were informed that there was to be no minors in the bar after 8. Which again is for licensing reasons apparently. Even though there were 2 people in what I can assume to be the residents bar. I also witnessed the manager smoking in plain site of the establishment. Such an Aire of indifference and nonchalance with the staff. The room itself has floors as level as a kid drawing a line on a piece of paper. You'd almost get seasickness walking around the bed. So in summation; don't expect anything fancy or for them to be accommodating in any way.

The Mitre hotel is an old but quite pleasant looking hotel from the outside. Inside up towards the rooms have wonky and never steps but ok for people who don't have hip or back issues like myself. Was upgraded to a room with a bath with which I was grateful for as was much needed with 4 days walking around Manchester and Liverpool. The buffet brekkie was lovely but need to get down early as we came down at 9.30am on Thursday and there was only 2 pieces of bacon left and very little of anything else. Staff were all lovely and welcoming and was on hand for anything we needed. We were in a room with the cathedral view and was amazing to hear the bells on one evening. House keeping needs to pay more attention to detail as still some hairs left in the bath, rubbish under the beds and towels unclean but overall had a good stay here

The good: a nice large room that was reasonably clean. And, yes, very centrally located… albeit also noisy for the same reason. The bad: to get hot water in the shower required turning on and running water in the sink until warm (about 5m) and only then running the shower. Staff ranging from amazingly helpful…. like showing you how to encourage hot water to your room….to one fellow who seemed totally disinterested to hearing the answers to his own questions. And lastly, i never did quite get to the bottom of why this pub lost its licence to serve alcohol but couldn’t get it back without some serious cleaning….. !!?

The hotel was super noisy. It's a city centre hotel which overlooks bars with outdoor seating. What was not expected however was a busker playing music from an ipad, linked up to a small PA system. He was "dj-ing" from 2pm to 9pm and apparently is there illegally every Friday and Saturday and has been doing this more than a year. We ended up phoning noise control. The hotel staff were very polite about my complaints. I couldn't believe that the hotel were putting up with this noise issue and letting out rooms to families knowing that they'd not be able to sleep until the busker stopped. Other than the noise, the hotel was very scruffy and basic. There were only slatted blinds in the room so this didn't keep the light out. TV only worked intermittently due to poor digital reception.

Spectacular location, in the most beautiful corner of the city, next to Shambles square and in front of the cathedral. I had a single room with breakfast included for two nights, for a total price of 152 pounds (about €178). The building is old, and the room had carpet in fair condition and a floor that creaked constantly. My room overlooked the pubs in the square, and as Saturday and Sunday nights passed, the noise was considerable, although fortunately it ended soon. Otherwise, spacious room, with TV, heating, ironing equipment, kettle, complimentary coffee and tea, bedside table and a chair. The bed was very comfortable. It did not have a closet, but rather a metal structure with hangers for clothes. There were no dispensers in the bathroom, only a bar of soap, and a shower with little pressure. As is usual in this type of building, there was no elevator and the stairs were very narrow with very high steps. Very friendly receptionists; As a curiosity, and even though I had paid for the room in advance, they forced me to present a credit card and charged me one pound, which they later returned to me. The breakfast was not bad; coffee, bottled juice, toast, and all the components of the typical English breakfast: beans, bacon, sausages, scrambled eggs, hashbrown, mushrooms, etc. etc In summary, and despite the negative points already mentioned, it is not a bad option; In relation to quality-price it is almost impossible to find something better.

I visited this bar & restaurant yesterday and it was a pleasant experience. The bar was very busy but there was no waiting around to be served, they have a good staff to customer ratio. I sat down and browsed the menu. Unfortunately my table was wobbling and leaned to one side but there were no other tables free, so I managed to balance it out with my bag! I had the Spinach & Chickpea curry which was delicious. It was fragrant & flavoursome. I ordered it with a side of chunky chips which were some of the best chips I have had. The service was generally ok but there are areas for improvement, for example I was handed my meal without a word said but please and thank yous were said at the bar. The hotel is located to the rear of the bar, which is handy if you want to enjoy the cocktails and have somewhere to 'crash'. I would definitrly reccomend Mitre for drinks and meals.

Was looking all around Manchester for a proper 'greasy spoon' as it were or just an old school British cafe that does a decent fry-up. A gentleman selling joke books outside in the shopping area said 'The Mitre' does a great breakfast and he wasn't wrong! The food was delicious and the wait wasn't even long. Just what I needed after the previous night of a few drinks. I'd like to give a special shoutout to the lovely staff members Keaton and Ellie (forgive me if I've spelt them wrong) they were both very welcoming and couldn't be more courteous (especially as me and my mate weren't even guests staying in one of the rooms) I noticed they had some rude customers and they handled themselves like professionals the entire time.

The bar area also offers 20% discount for hotel guests which I thought was brilliant, but unfortunately didn't get the chance to use as I was on a course nearby the next morning. Recently stayed at The Mitre Hotel with one other friend. The room was a bargain price and the hotel is in a great location with plenty of parking nearby without having to drive into the centre of the city. We were actually given a free...

This venue used to be quite elegant but is in need of a refurb, the decor has become shabby but not chic, it has badly fallen behind all the neighbouring bars. Sadly it felt dirty and outdated

My partner and I stayed one night in the hotel, I assume the room given to us does not represent every room but our stay was less than satisfactory. The room was tiny, with a big bed which made it difficult to walk around. The...

We visited the mitre on the 27th July, the location is perfect for a quiet drink and the staff are really nice and helpful. Callum in particular gave us quick service as well as making effort to speak to us and make us feel welcome.

We popped in to get out of the rain and were really surprised how good the Mitre is. The menu has a good range and they have three top quality European beers on draft

While walking around Manchester we happened upon this lovely bar. It was quiet when we arrived and there were loads of tables available inside and outside. We ordered our food (you order at the bar and give your table number). The girl who took the...

While wandering around the streets of Manchester we saw the sign outside this establishment advertising "Coffee, Tea and Cake". Went into the bar at 11.30am and asked a decaf coffee, a tea and some cake to eat outside on the tables provided. Instead of cake...

No chance of getting to sleep as the empty bar under the rooms keeps the music blasting out at so far 23:30. The night manager was good and tried to help but he has no control over the bat music who have been told to...

We called in for a quick drink on our way back to Piccadilly station, and were greeted by a very efficient bar person called Beth. The drinks were produced very quickly and as we sat at the bar, I could see her in action, and...

10 of us left The Oyster Bar, (see review) and were met in The Mitre by very smiley and genuinely friendly staff in a lovely, freshly redecorated, well laid out bar and restaurant. Drinks were good, food excellent. I had the 15 quid seafood platter...

Called in on Monday for a drink and lunch. Very friendly staff, good quality beer. However, despite other reviews the food was over cooked and was left. Poor impression will use the Crown and Anchor (next door) in the future.

Stayed 1 night for Westlife concert. The staff was welcoming and friendly, food was perfect from the bar downstairs and room was perfect. Tried to book a second night but was fully booked. Highly recommended quaint little hotel. Planning a second stay

After a couple of shopping errands, and for the very first time I called into the bar for a quick pint. The premises was full, however bar service was very quick and the staff were both pleasant and helpful. I would recommend this bar and will certainly re-visit.

Nice pub just across from St. Peters Square in Manchester with the usual distinctive Wetherspoons design. Good beer and menu selection as usual. Had our breakfast here and one of the courses was completely screwed up by the kitchen staff, but the girl serving us sorted it out straight away and the manager gave us a full refund on that course, which was excellent customer service. I'd definitely visit again if in the area.
