Kro Bar in Manchester

Good breakfast, lovely staff. I like this place.

Starters and mains arrived together about 10-15 minutes after we had ordered which makes me wonder how fresh their burgers are?! The burger patty was tiny and placed on a bun that was evidently chosen to make the burger look bigger. It was huge, dense and stale. Loaded fries we ordered cost us £6 and they were one chip deep in a small bowl, bacon bits were SO burned it tasted like eating salty coal (and I love crispy bacon). The upstairs doesn't have a stitch of soft furnishings, so expect to sit on old church pues without a cushion, and once there's more than 3 or 4 people in the room, the echo is deafening. As someone with a sensory disorder, it was like cleaning my ears out with a kitchen knife. In fairness, the staff were lovely, and seemed to love what they were doing... By far the only redeeming factor about this place.

Small but nice selection of rums. Enjoyed a few before a gig over the road. Will be back.

Guy was abit rude at the start like I was talking to loud an to fast I suffer with mental health an had anxiety so not a welcoming Start , absolutely shocked at the price ordered a full English worse one I've ever tried mushrooms tasted like dirty water the whole plate was just shocking in general especially for the price the egg was really overcooked on my mother's breakfast an the mini fry an normal breakfast look exactly the same size so could of saved money but didn't bother to tell me this !!bad experience please get a better chef in your kitchen no wonder you didn't come over to our table an ask how our food was because you already no!! I should of asked for a refund but mentally couldn't cope with that so thanks for screwing me over !!!!! Discusting !!!!

It's an absolute joke. No wonder one has to pay upfront. To be specific, it was a "joke of a sandwich". Can you believe I paid £10+ for this? This kitchen must be run by someone who believes that everyone can have their own kitchen. Clearly not. I still can't get over the fact that I paid so much for a piece of Tesco's(?) gluten free bread, chicken and some salad. I'm just speechless. Other people that I went with received undercooked jacket potatoes...It's just funny that they also serve 'danish' meals. No one from my party of 10+ ordered their danish food.

Great food and drinks choice, excellent quality

Came here for a quick lunch with the family and was left underwhelmed to say the least. Big extensive menu with a lot of items, breakfast menu served till late, brunch menu and a lot more with some vegan/vegetarian options to choose from. The place itself has got quite a nice vibe. Ordered few different items at the bar and paid in advance. When the food arrived, I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the half rack of ribs. Problem was when I started eating them… they were really tough and didn’t smell the greatest. I feel as if they were not really made fresh (on the day). They smelled and looked (very grey meat) quite old, maybe a day or two spent in the fridge. I managed to eat like 2 small ones in total and couldn’t eat the remaining. The facon on my partner’s breakfast was very thin and very overcooked. He enjoyed the other items. On the vegetarian mezze the hummus was quite alright, don’t think it’s home made tho. The pitta on the other end was not good either. Some Slices were thick and chewy, some others looked more like a tortilla wrap. I get it that it’s off season as many students are gone home, though I feel the food was really sub par. Throughout the lunch, we were never asked how the food was, as in, no one came to check on us to see if we needed anything after they have brought the food and therefore I could not really give a feedback on my meal nor get it rectified. Given that the food needs to be paid in advance, we have not seen anyone from the staff after the food was given to the table. Probably best for their selection of drinks rather than food.

Absolutely disgusted with this place. What's the point of having a disabled toilet for disabled people if staff members use the toilet. We were going to have some food here but not after we saw a staff member coming out, and totally ignoring us afterwards. Do not go here its horrible.

Affordable spot for drinks and food for students. They have plenty of seats, both inside and outdoors. Lots of Danish food to choose from with knowledgeable bartenders. Food needed seasoning but dessert was perfect.

Great food ar reasonable prices in very atmospheric building

Located in the heart of Manchester on the Oxford Road, Krobar offers Danish cuisine and great ambience. The menu has most popular pub dishes, in addition to the Danish specials. The service was very good and staff friendly. The food was good but looking at food that my mates ordered, I should have ordered something else. Overall, it was a lovely evening out...

Food is really nice. There is quite a few students so can be a bit busy at times. The lights are dim in the first room but the hanging lights in the second room are a tad bright not too bad though. The music isn’t too loud, decent portion sizes would recommend, we got 2 for 1 burgers on Tuesday, ‘fat chips’ , mac n cheese & two cokes and payed £31.30 so on the pricey side.

Fun and lively. A popular stop for students apparently. Had a baked potato with chilli: a hearty meal with just the right heat.

Absolutely disgusting the food was stale and cold the cakes are frozen not home made as they tell you the staff are rude and obnoxious the place stinks of the upstairs toilets would deffo be walking past this place in future

Don't get the caesar salad - mine had a LIVE moving slug in it ! The male manager on was so rude about it as well (13/05/24 - around 12:30pm) - no sorry or anything was very grumpy like he was the one who had been given a sluggy salad !! Only gave me a partial refund until I asked again ! Don't recommend xxx

Lovely building and atmosphere, you can tell it’s popular with students too. Only popped in for a pint but the food looked good and decent prices too. Open for breakfast as well. Sunday Roast £10 for 1, or 2 for £15 - bargain!

Have just spent a week in Manchester for a course & called in afterwards for a social. Mix of students, general public & what I think were fairly rat arsed but friendly older academics. Staff were really helpful & friendly, had a pint of the Manc lager which was good, & beef chilli fries

The slow cook rib here is tender by far I have eaten in ManC! I normally don’t like ribs as it’s mainly dry or hard, but this place’s is good! The meatballs are juicy too! We also order banger kids meal but the sausage is not to our liking. Overall it’s a good lunch! There’s also daily deals to look out for.

Been here quite a few times now, always before a gig. Good beer and food, but could do with a wider selection of food. That being said, it will still frequent Kro-Bar.

Garlic ciabatta with cheese - cold and undercooked. Came here on way to a gig a few weeks ago and the bar man got our drinks wrong but these things happen. Thought we’d give it another go as we had another gig last night . Ordered a few drinks and a garlic ciabatta with cheese, the drinks were fine but the garlic ciabatta was cold and undercooked. It was as if the ciabatta was taken out of the fridge, a bit of butter spread on it, topped with cheese and flashed under the grill for the cheese to melt literally for a few moments! When we mentioned it to the waitress she laughed and said “ok, I’ll let them know “ - not sure how you can mess up a garlic ciabatta but then we did see the Chef outside in his uniform having a smoke!

Had a full English and it was excellent. Decent portion size. The breakfast deal is great value and the lunches are really tasty

Can be quite busy at times, but is a great place to grab a cheap bite. Went on a 2for1 burger day, which was nice, but didn’t include fries? Seems quite expensive if not with fries.

Nice bar, large space. Just opposite the Accadamy where we went to watch a band. Prices OK, and they topped the Guinness up after I asked them to as the head on it was an Inch thick. Nice enough though.

Only popped in briefly to meet up with friends before a gig. But good range of drinks, readoble prices. Plenty of seating inside and out the back. Outside seating is covered but not all heated. When we have more time would have a longer visit and have food. As from seeing what others had looked good.

Chose of food is excellent 5 of us all had something different and all of us were very pleased

Definitely our go to spot when we go to the academy. The dirty burger has to be one of the best burgers I have ever had. Great choice of beers and the service is excellent. Went for breakfast the next morning. The eggs Benedict is definitely recommended.

Only had drinks there, great night out, bar staff were amazing and very helpful and quick to keep the bar moving. Highly recommended.

Kro Bar is a fun great pub on three levels, with good food, affordable pricing (and students/staff discounts for universities!). I love it.

Ordered two pints of cider. Sat outside and people watched. Nice building and great to be outside having a nice day on a sunny day. Wasn't that busy in the day time. I would visit again if in the area. Loads of drinks on offer.

Still as amazing as it was 20 years on when I was a student there. Looking forward to the next time 😊👍

This place was a delightful find during my time at the hospital. Tired of the usual unhealthy fast food options, I stumbled upon this gem offering breakfast until 3 pm. I decided to try the hummus and avocado bagel, and it exceeded all my expectations. The flavors were spot on, and the freshness of the ingredients was evident with every bite. To complement the meal, I ordered a delicious cup of coffee that further elevated the experience. I enjoyed it so much that I've already made plans to return tomorrow for breakfast. I just love it.

This is a lively bar and can be quite noisy as it is situated in an old house with wooden floor boards and high ceilings. It is also a popular student haunt and can be packed at key times, such as Open Days and Graduations. If you don't like noise or can suffer from sensory overload, you may wish to wish to pick a quiet time. The process is to find a table, then order from the bar. The menu is varied, the food is excellent, and service is good, even when busy.

Arrived here thanks to TripAdvisor and it was a good decision. Huge pub with loads of tables outside as well as in. Fantastic range of drinks and an eclectic menu to boot. Focused on the Danish dishes and glad I did as it provided a pretty new and tasty experience. Recommended.

We had the Sunday roast. It was super cheap and healthy.

Always a great experience, been here many times and it never disappoints! The staff are lovely and bring your food quickly. They have a great variety of ales and lagers that they regularly rotate. The 2 for 1 offers on food is fantastic value too.

The burgers were delicious. The vegan Thai tofu stir fried noodles were also very delicious, which is remarkable considering that this place does not specialise in Asian cuisine. It’s very close to the university so it’s often frequented by students, which might explain why the prices are quite cheap. If you’re coming by car, find a parking spot in advance. There’s some free roadside parking on Cecil Street, which is about a 7 minute walk away.

A bit of a biased review but recently had been lacking some self esteem and had treated myself to a new pink sparkly top. A waitress went out of her way to compliment me and it made me feel so good inside I was blushing! You made my day ☺️ Great drinks and beer garden also 🍻

Good food menu - have eaten here many times and both the food and service is reliably good. Good selection of drinks too, a good beer/ale range on draught and in cana/bottles. Can get really busy during term time. There's an outside seating area at the front and an even bigger one at the back

Firstly when I emailed to book I received a reply informing me that the chef would come in early on Sunday to accommodate our booking - absolutely stellar service. I didn’t catch his name, but our server was great and kept us well looked after. Breakfast was beautiful and poached eggs cooked perfectly, which can be really hit or miss elsewhere so will definitely be back!

Overall a great place. Charming decor, and spacious. Staff where nice and helpful. Good selection of beers available; not as many Danish or Scandinavian as you might think.

The customer is always right? The customer is always WRONG at Kro Bar. I was a regular customer and liked to bring my friends and colleagues to Kro Bar as I am based at the university and the hospital nearby. I went to meet my friends on spur of the moment as they were at Kro bar. I had already bought lunch and they told me I should join for a few minutes. I joined them outside and was immediately berated by MARTIN. Whilst I accept that they didn't want me to eat (despite there being lots of space, I was joining my paying friends, i was going to buy a drink, I am a regular) I was not impressed with MARTIN. MARTIN was rude and decided to engage in an argument. I felt threatened by him. I asked him to desist and he would not. It annoys me no end when institutions or companies cannot treat loyal customers right. Let alone, staff threatening customers.

Great service, food, and surroundings.

We went there on a lovely sunny bank holiday. It's based in Oxford Road, just opposite University of Manchester, in a lovely partly-pedestrianised road which was so quiet and sunny but still lively as there were many people up and down. The terrace is just by the street so it is lovely to stay there on a sunny day.The drinks menu is lovely; plenty of international beers on tap. I chose Berliner Pilsner and I really enjoyed it. About the food...I didn't go for any of the danish specialities, decided to go for a club sandwich, and I was fairly disappointed, The bread was dead cold (not toasted at all), just the meat and the filling was a bit messy. On top of that, the dish looked a bit empty as on the side there were just a few rocket leaves (fries are meant to be ordered as a side, +3 pounds) The club sandwich itself was 7 pounds, so to be fair I wonder if it takes that much to serve the club sandwich alongside the fries as standard. My partner ordered a croque monsieur which was nice. On the other hand, I had a look at other table's food orders and the burgers looked nice, but still is a bit weird to see burgers not being served alongside fries? I can understand the need of bringing prices down in order to undercut competitors, but maybe a balance can be struck between prices and food menu quality?To sum it up, it's a nice place to stay and enjoy a good pint. My food choice slightly disappointed me, but maybe if you're a student it's quite worthy to give it a go? Maybe I'll give it another try but won't be rushing honestly.

Had the 2-4-1 burger deal tonight. Great food, quick service and fantastic outside space. Will definitely be back!

Got a table straight away despite not booking and now I know why... my friend clearly ordered a sandwich but got bought a salad and the waiter's response was 'that's not what it says on my order' -no, because you wrote the wrong thing down! My food was burnt and although another dish was bought within 10 minutes, no apology was given for either issue.

¡Es un lindo asador pequeño con muy buen servicio! Se puede comer en el interior o en las mesas de la calle. Recomendaría reservar. El pollo es sabor y varias opciones de platos con él. No hay muchos platos vegetarianos pero los pocos que hay son deliciosos. Los entrantes y postres son increíbles, especialmente los nachos de patata con huevas de salmón y el brownie. ¡No como carne y aún así lo pasé de maravilla con excelente comida y servicio amable!

Visited July 2019 - still roughly the same place as when I was an undergrad here 2006-2009,. Recent visit had a good range of beers both local and further afield and decently-priced and a good atmosphere.

Kro Bar es genial. Como estudiante universitario, mis amigos y yo íbamos aquí después de las conferencias para su oferta de café y pasteles (algo alrededor de 3. 45 creo) y a veces almorzábamos aquí y la comida nunca decepcionaba. ¡Una cosa a tener en cuenta es que no hacen café descafeinado! Está en el campus, por lo que puedes usar Eduroam, lo que lo convierte en un buen lugar para estudiar o trabajar, como lo hice hoy. ¡El pastel siempre está delicioso! Puede estar ocupado durante la semana pero es más tranquilo los fines de semana. Un montón de zonas para sentarse. Buena variedad de cervezas, etc. para la noche.

So much great food! And the atmosphere is great, too.

I come back to the Kro Bar every Summer for the food, especially the roast pork. It is excellent. The premises really could do with a deep clean though. Floors and tables are sometimes rather sticky.

Good food at good prices, rather poor ordering system with such a large compound. May take awhile to get notice of bar staff.

Got up sold a free hot dog because it was a Thursday and they were ‘241’ only to be charged twice...Didn’t get offered a receipt after paying contactless so didn’t see until a day or two after that it had happened. Hot dog wasn’t even that good I’ll be going elsewhere before a gig at academy, next time.

This bar is on the main Oxford road around all of the University areas. We visited after a visit to the Manchester Museum last night. Good selection of beers and wines perfect for a late drink!

Visité Kro Bar con un amigo por primera vez antes de ir a un concierto en Manchester Academy 2 y tuve una comida encantadora.No es un lugar grande, pero había muchas mesas libres cuando llegamos alrededor de las 5. 30 pm. El personal fue realmente amable y servicial. La comida era realmente genial, buena variedad de menú. Los precios eran típicos de un restaurante de Manchester. Bouncers claimed we “wanted toilet” when we wanted to come in for a drink. Could not be told otherwise. I wanted drink!

I had delicious brunch at Kro Bar. Staff were lovely and helpful, explaining everything you asked about. The Bof burger is amazing, although we couldn’t figure out how to eat it rather than using the knife and fork because the whole burger was merged in the gravy sauce but it was delicious. Salmon was okay but nothing special. Chicken penne Pasta was good.

Functional pub, has plenty of space and rooms upstairs and outside. A decent range of beers. Excellent vegan food and friendly staff. Interior was cozily designed and bright with nice artwork on the walls.

Nos recomendaron el bar Kro y lo visitamos en familia mientras estábamos en Manchester. El personal era agradable y nos sirvieron rápidamente. La comida llegó en un tiempo razonable pero la calidad no fue fabulosa, ni la presentación de la comida. Además, pensé que los precios eran un poco altos y que si te pones un poco tambaleante, la escalera hacia el área de descanso de arriba podría ser desagradable. El lugar estaba limpio y hay asientos al aire libre si lo prefieres. Supongo que dependen de los estudiantes para una buena parte de su negocio.
