We recently stayed locally for two nights and ate at the Miner’s Arms both nights. Nic was so friendly and helpful. The food was delicious on the first night but on bonfire night, we ordered the greedy Greek platter on Nic’s recommendation and it was excellent! Delicious food, really dog friendly and very welcoming. We’ll be back!

Visited for lunch after s business meeting. Good car park. Had a warm welcome from all the staff. Taken to an appropriately large table ( 7 persons). Good menu with very reasonable pricing. Plenty of options. Nice pint of Landlords Ale. Excellent friendly service. The food when it came ... wow! Such large portions and excellent quality. Given boxes for our un eaten pizza slices ... just too big a pizza. Overall we had a lovely meal and were very impressed with this establishment. Highly recommend.

First night 27th September was brilliant , couldn’t fault it at all. We had a great time. Unfortunately, the following night the service was not good which meant we didn’t leave a tip for that night. The guy from Wales , who we assume was the manager, was absent the second night so not sure if this was the reason for the difference.

Some old favourites on the menu, along with some interesting and varied dishes. Very popular on the Friday and Saturday we visited, recommend booking a table in advance, walk-ins are accepted providing space is available, it was quieter on a Tuesday night. The service was friendly and efficient throughout our 3 visits whilst on holiday in the Peak District. The food was excellent, and the pizzas were huge. The pie was very tasty, good pastry and packed full of filling. The garden area is lovely when the weather is kind.

Wow! What a culinary gem! Cycling around Carsington Water, followed detour via Hopton Hall into Carsington and stopped for lunch each day. Amazing!! No wonder reviews are so good. Cheesy salt n pepper chips are best ever tasted!!! Birra Moretti well presented too. A short diversion off the trail but well worth it.

So, me and a friend went for a drive out, came across this pub, decided to go in for a pint and some food, we sat on a table that didn't have a reserve notice on there, to be told that we have to go outside because the table was reserved, we went outside and was greeted with a thunderstorm and hail. Half an hour later, went to the toilet and the table was still empty. I have never felt like I wasn't welcome in a place more than this, and to top it off the pint glasses were disgusting, bits and bobs floating around in the drinks.... Awful experience

We visited on a busy Easter Monday for a late lunch. Having been recommended by friends, I booked in advance and was glad to have done so. We were attended to quickly and our food arrived in a reasonable time . It was cooked to order so don’t expect 10 minutes. Probably more like 20 or 25 but it was hot, plentiful and most importantly delicious. We will be visiting again!

Having visited Carsington Water my wife and I decided to get some lunch out. Having seen good reviews online I suggested The Miners Arms, and we're very pleased we did. We received an efficient but warm welcome and were allowed to choose a table. 30 minutes later I don't think there'd have been much choice. The menu was varied and we chose the burger with peppercorn sauce which came with not only a good, thick, tasty burger patty but slices of rump steak, served with skin-on fries. It was a good meal, leaving us with no room for dessert. There's free WiFi, handy for us as there was no mobile signal on our phones. My only criticism was not being asked how the rump steak slices should be cooked as they were quite rare, too rare for my wife's liking (so I had to eat hers, what a shame).

Came for a birthday meal; had read the food served was home cooked food, but that does not do it justice. Well presented, good food with a ‘fusion’ twist (eg Indian inspired battered fish with Bombay potatoes and lamb with red pepper and feta sauce). Absolutely brilliant, been a long time since we had such a good meal and although not cheap it is by no means expensive and therefore equates to good value for money. Will definitely come again and would highly recommend.

We ate here for the first time tonight and what a fantastic pub this is. We've tried a few times on the off chance but couldn't get in, and now we know why. Food was excellent, but I must say the staff are a credit. We sat at our table and a few minutes later the bar maid came and asked us what we wanted to drink, we then had our drinks in a couple of minutes. The lad who took our order and served us was so pleasent and polite. We've been searching for a pub with a country feel and I think we've found it. Staff and food..... amazing

Highly recommend. Great food. Lovely helpful staff and lovely pub too. Roaring fire in there & good beer too! We came here a couple of years ago in the summer when we stayed in the area & it was lovely then too- tables outside with parasols, and a hog roast evening. Met up with friends- we travelled from Leicester & they travelled from nr Manchester. Due to traffic& roadworks we were later than our table. The staff were fantastic in accommodating us & finding a small table so that we could stay on later (we were booked 12 noon & another party had booked at 2.15pm). Great Sunday lunch menu. ** Please bring some cash if you visit as tips are cash only and they really deserve a tip!**

Called in for lunch, well laid out table with welcome open fire, great setting and nicely varied menu with plenty of pub food options. Very nice gammon but surprisingly came only with pineapple as the kitchen didn’t have any eggs, (weren’t told that on ordering) No Brown sauce available either. Excellent chips, Walnut, goats cheese and Beetroot salad was nice, White wine arrived not even slightly chilled , bar didn’t have lemon to go with water or a GnT ,restaurant not busy but felt staff were a little disinterested, had to get up from the table several times to get condiments etc, Simple essentials missing, Shame as with little effort felt it had the potential to give a so much better experience.

Enjoyed an evening of traditional Country pub fare with a European twist. The men in the party enjoyed hearty bangers and mash or a 12oz burger all served how you would expect whilst the ladies chose a selection of tapas dishes from a very varied menu.Puddings followed, enjoyable if a little expensive at £7, and whilst pizzas were off the menu this particular evening, it really didn't spoil our selection.

Disappointed with restaurant despite good reviews. No pizzas available which is a third of the menu. We unfortunately experienced being served fish when vegetarian food was requested. The restaurant did remove the meals from the bill but it did put us off. Service was very slow and the attitude of some of the staff was quite upsetting. However the other meat eaters of the family enjoyed their meals!

Firstly, you should not visit here if you want fast food...If you want great food, freshly cooked and lots of it then yes, you should definitely pay them a visit. Our party of 4 included a couple of vegetarians. The 2 meat eaters were very happy with the huge burgers we were served but the hightlights were the 'small dishes' the vegetarians ordered. Thinking along the tapas line they ordered 6 dishes in total. That was there big mistake as small doesn't necessarily mean small portions!!The homemade falafel was amazing, the roasted honey glazed golden beetroot with pomegranate, wow...Everything was just simply stunning.

What used to be a moody village pub has been transformed so well by the Remarkable Hare guys and is definitely the best place for food within the Wirksworth area. The menu is varied, great food, healthy portions done right, dirty dogs are lush and the pizzas epic, my partner loves the salads on our last couple of visits. The garden area has been nicely done and lovely place to sit out on a sunny day with blankets, water and treats on tap for the mutts.Internally it looks great whilst keeping the character of an old building, staff have been great each time and a good selection of different ales and gins.Busy at weekends so book but chilled out on weekdays. Plenty of street parking even when busy. Thought I’d review as pretty local and highlight a job well done. If they take over the Rising Sun nearby I’d be happy!

A place that is apparently good when things run smoothly but extremely rude and abrasive to customers when NOT. Just be sure you don’t complain, even if you are served drinks and then told that TODAY THERE IS NO LUNCH. No signs up to tell you, waiters aren’t informed, the managers just decide and when the customers complain (we were one of several), we were made to feel it was our fault. No apologies and no clear reason.Looking at previous reviews, it seems a pattern of behaviour -so busy making excuses that they forget to apologise. Managers would do well to follow the examples set by their staff who were lovely.

Beautiful location, right in the heart of tiny Carsington village. The weather was good to us and we were able to sit outside. There is an extensive outdoor area. The menu isn't vast, but it's good! If you're lucky, the pizza oven will be open so that freshly baked pizzas can be ordered. Otherwise, the "tapas" style menu offers the chance to have a mixture of dishes - but don't be fooled, they're not small portions! All the staff we encountered were extremely friendly. For some in our party, this was their 2nd visit in a few days (they'd enjoyed the 1st one so much). For children, the village play area is literally next door.

Booked a table in advance & was really looking forward to a very delicious Sunday Roast as we'd previously enjoyed. Came away very disappointed, dirty glass (cheerfully replaced), cabbage had been drained of life, roast potatoes overcooked and old oil flavoured, (previously frozen?), chicken undercooked. We mentioned chicken to lovely waitress & her superior came & explained it was not the meat with blood on just the red in the bones & sinews and that she wouldn't ever serve food to make us poorly. No apology just a harsh explanation. We've been cooking chicken for many years but hey ho what do we know?!!! Not rushing back sadly as love this place & setting is beautiful...but not a good day in the kitchen!

I really feel for this pub! This pub is one of our locals and a place we’ve always greatly enjoyed. Unfortunately, not on this occasion. The service has been poor for a few weeks now, but we understand that some things cannot be helped. We have always been respectful and patient with the staff. It’s been a hard year. However on this occasion unfortunately the service was totally unacceptable. After waiting patiently for our food. 4 of the 6 plates came out with the wrong meats on. This was relatively quickly resolved. However, what came out next none of us could eat not enjoy. The beef was the rarest we had seen. So we personally left the beef aside. But the chicken. I’m unsure as to how this could be classed as safe to consume, let alone allowed out the kitchen! Unacceptable! So that’s 6 meals wasted and we all walked away disheartened. For a pub that we love and have been coming to ever since it reopened this really is such a shame! I really hope this feedback comes back constructive, as we would really like the pub to sort it’s issues out and be a great pub again! Well done to the young lad who did serve us and who did his best. It was a chef error and totally out of his control. For now, we won’t be back anytime soon. But we hope to be back in the future, when the issues have been sorted.

What a shame our once lovely local village pub has rapidly gone downhill. On 3 occasions we have popped in for a drink, each time it is a mission to get a servers attention to order drinks! Not just ourselves but everyone else seated outside has to go through the same charade of arm waving when a member of staff is spotted. We have waited upto 30 minutes just to order and then the drinks take a disproportionate amount of time to appear. The staff are lovely but young and without direction - where are the managers/ owners? We know you are finding it difficult to employ sufficient staff resulting in one evening us witnessing around a dozen potential groups being turned away as the pub was closing at 6.30pm on a beautiful summers evening. The dreadful service was not down to a lack of staff in those shifts we visited, they were all inside just oblivious to the thirsty customers sitting in your garden. It won’t be long before there won’t be any customers coming to the Miners and don’t deserve any.

Fabulous pub, great atmosphere. The garden set up for distancing is exceptional. My issue lies with the Sunday menu. The recent previous owners did a roast on a plate in three sizes with the large one being phenomenal. Now you can have a platter (on a plank of wood) for two at £30 which if you are healthy adults is fine but the problem comes if you are a child or an OAP. So, with no child option (or OAP) we were offered meals in a Yorkshire pudding, which is fine if you are a Yorkie fan. We decided to have 3 platters between 6 adults and one child and our 2 OAPs going for 3 extra sides and we would give them some of our meat. At £4 a side we expected 3 plates but received a single bowl with 3 small portions in it. (including 2 roast potatoes!) £12!I said the the server, who was absolutely lovely, that there really should be a revision of the menu but if she passed it on or not we don't know.My wife and I ate there a few weeks ago and the food was excellent and the quality of the food is without question even though it had taken over an hour to get our food.

Also on the platter were six large roast potatoes, root evegetables and two large yorkshire puddings, Gravy came in two jugs. The food was wonderful, cooked to perfection. The staff are young and were rushed off their feet, but polite and helpful. The area outside is probably twice the size of the restaurant inside and is used on sunny days, so the staff are busy going backwards and forwards. We had what I would call a leisurely Sunday meal, which suited us perfectly, but if you are in a hurry to eat and get out (but why would you), might not be for you. We would definately go back. We soon got hurried to our seats and were left to our own resources for at least 15 mins as the waiters daudled about. When they eventually acknowledged us we got passed two menus and told their was a limited menu of just pizza. Not realising we were in a pizza parlour someone asked why we wasn’t warned before hand to which the manager says he doesn’t know and it wasn’t his fault. As we got kicked out I wondered the whole way home as to how the food of a restaurant is not the managers responsibility. Never again-0/10

Menu was awful, when we got there there was very little food available. Asked to speak to the manager and he was extremely rude, definitely wouldn’t recommend. The staff weren’t wearing masks either and the manger actually told us to get out and not bother staying for our drinks, terrible customer service never going again and wouldn’t recommend anyone else too.

We have dined at the Miners Arms in Carsington many times but this was the first time under the new management. Unfortunately we were very disappointed. The tables were dirty and not cleaned before we were offered the table. The food was served cold and the service was appalling. Waiting staff inside were not wearing masks. The menu was awful with most of the items not being available Sorry but we won't be coming again

Visited today with my brother and his partner, amazing, and the staff, even though it’s a busy sunny bank holiday, were professional and relaxed, The food was fabulous, we’ll be visiting again often. The setting is beautiful, the beer garden is one of the best we have visted. Dog friendly as well, couldn’t ask for more....Well done to everyone from chefs to servers and management!

Beautiful day at Carsington Water. Stopped here for lunch. Had seen the positive reviews. They had run out of a fair amount of food and were only doing pizzas and salads. When the waiter arrived he said they had a backlog with pizzas and so it was down to salads. Lots of people around us complaining about the wait. Food was ok, but we had to ask for the cutlery and our drinks order. Food isn’t cheao so all in all rather disappointing. Certainly won’t be rushing back.

Found this delightful country pub while walking with friends a month ago. So our second visit, and this time inside - and what an excellent meal. We hadn’t booked and it was a damp Tuesday lunchtime but we decided on a selection of ‘small plates’ - with the baked Camembert probably the highlight. A lovely atmosphere with lovely staff. Will definitely return to the area - and will probably book next time to ensure we get a another excellent meal.

Been over the weekend with family, they had been the previous week and said it was really good. The food is really good, had a couple of sharing platters outside under the current rules. Well cooked and plenty of it, plates hot as well. Really enjoyed the food. Service was a bit slow which was surprising as they were quite and there were quite a few servers (table service only) under the current rules. When we arrived most people looked to have been served and there were some waiting for takeaway, we were given a table and another server said they'd be over to take a drinks order. They even cleaned the table before we sat down. We sat there and two other families arrived and got served with drinks, one even got food all before we ordered drinks (the server didn't come back). So, food great but service could be better we will be going again and see what happens then, hopefully it was an off day.

Visited yesterday for the first time since recent change of ownership. Great outdoor set up, fantastic new menu with a fab variety of dishes. I had the chargrilled steak sandwich with fries. Cooked to perfection and so tasty. Daughter had the dirty fries with pulled pork, and her partner had steak and ale pie. All really nice. Will be returning regularly to try the other dishes! Great friendly service from the staff and well organised. Highly recommend

Fantastic food! Outdoor seating was well done with patio heaters and fairy lights giving it a great atmosphere. We chose a couple of the tapas bits for a starter and were not disappointed! Then onto the burger! My mouth waters just thinking about it! I cannot recommend this pub enough!

Back out for our first meal after lockdown. We already knew the food was going to be good from having meals from the sister pub The Remarkable Hare in Matlock. We were fortunate with good weather today but the outside setting was perfect, wonderful beer garden and tables under cover if required. Carsington village is a beautiful location and the style and ambience of the pub is well suited. Top class service from the team of staff who were friendly, polite and efficient. The Doggie station is a wonderful touch well stocked with water, bowls, treats and play things and our dog was very happy. We both had the Buffalo burgers from the menu....a beast of a burger, amazing flavours and I had to reticulate my jaw to get my choppers around it. Great value and looking forward to trying a few other meals from the menu. Many Thanks to all involved for a wonderful meal and good luck with your new venture, will be back very soon

We stumbled across The Miners on a day trip to Carsington Water and we were so happy we did!I couldn't praise the waiting staff enough, they were friendly, polite and very attentive. All COVID safe measures were in place and it was a pleasure to enjoy a drink in the sun.Excellent outdoor seating with thoughtful touches such as blankets for when it gets chilly and even a 'dog treat station' where they provided water, treats and toys for your furry friend all brought to your table! We only had time for a drink but would definitely return to try the food.A great experience, thanks all!

We booked a table knowing this place would be very busy. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The food was all fresh and very high quality. This was one of the tastiest meals out we had, had in a long time. The interior is nicely decorated with a cosy feel. It was nice that they had the heating on as the weather wasn’t great that day.The meal was reasonably priced and the Miners Arms are definitely taking all the COVID safety measures seriously which was reassuring. We will definitely visit again when next in the area.

I cannot fault The Miners Arms. From the ambience (even during these times), to the quality of the food and service I challenge anyone to be disappointed. The "Bass" and "TT" are lovely. Have a pint of each instead of a starter!

The most amazing mixed grill, too much to eat. Proper pies with chunky chips! Regular table service to make sure you're constantly topped up.But the quality of the fayre is always excellent. Sunday is our normal visiting time for the best roast dinner. Not disappointed on a Saturday night either.

The VERY FIRST time we have eaten out anywhere since February. We were camping nearby and felt the village warranted a look, and having seen the Miners arms A frame on the Carsington Water path we thought we'd try them for lunch. It's a good path from the lake, but maybe rough for pushchairs. The Miner's Arms has a one way system inside and out and there are perspex screens at the bar and the staff wore face visors, and thoroughly cleaned tables and chairs after anyone visited, so my wife and I felt as safe as we could be, especially as the tables in the restaurant were well spaced out.I chose the sirloin steak and my wife had the Beetroot, Feta & Mint Falafel Burger. The service was quick, friendly and efficient. My steak was cooked to my liking and was good, however, the falafel buger was really sloppy and more like pate, although my wife said it tasted very nice, it wasn't really the right consistency at all to be described as a burger.Overall though we were happy with our food and the local bitter was extremely good too. On a final note The Gent's toilets I could only describe as "gleaming" as they were absolutely spotless. We'd be happy to visit and eat at The Miner's Arms again if we're ever in the area again.

Looked a lovely pub. Waited at table outside for 20 minutes the table service waiter walked past us many times. Gf said excuse but could we get served and totally ignored us and went and served a table that had just walked in. No wonder the pub is being sold if this is the service you get. Hope they get rid of this ignorant table staff. Told him thankyou for the lack of service and walked off

The pub with no front! We drove passed it and saw just the pub sign (luckily) on the road. Reverse back and find the narrow entrance to the car park, and you’ll find the front door into the pub, at the back! Quite expensive for what really can only be classed as ordinary pub food, it’s the menu, like so many other pubs, that is memorable for its dire lack of creativity. Sausage and mash is classed as a ‘special’ here (and that’ll be £13.95 too). One thing is for sure though, what they do offer is cooked well and is tasty. What’s more their COVID- sanitising is excellent. Can’t say we’ll rush back (after all we do live down South). But we wouldn’t anyhow when everything on the menu we could eat at home. As with all pubs at the moment we wish them luck at this difficult time.

While on a walk around the reservoir we detoured after seeing their advert. VERY pleased to support the local businesses trying to do the right things and they certainly are. We sat in the garden on well spaced out tables and enjoyed a very tasty roast lunch with a choice of meats. Excellent one way system for ordering or do it on the app, screens along bar show how seriously they are taking things. Worth a visit but currently only open Friday, Saturday and Sunday so don't miss out!THANK YOU to all the staff.

Decided to pop in here for lunch having been for a drive round the area on the lookout for somewhere nice. At first viewing, we thought £10 was a bit steep for sandwiches, but as it turned out, not only were they huge, but it came with chips, onion rings and salad, so in the end we were absolutely stuffed! Very friendly service from all staff and beer advice from a friendly local also. We shall definitely be returning. The only this isn't 5 stars is because the steak on my sandwich should have been medium as per menu, but was perhaps a little over with no hint of pink in the middle. I look forward to hopefully giving 5 next time, as this was more a 4 1/2 anyway!

Charming Cafe it is. The coffee is very good. The photos of table laid with cutlery and napkins and lovely decor enticed us drive out to Monsal Head where we know the views are wonderful to have a light lunch. BUT We sat at a table and although the place was empty ( very rainy outside ) the staff didn’t acknowledge us, say hello even or explain it is counter service only. If you are expecting food, think again. No meals, No sandwiches, No baked potatoes or anything substantial, just a few cakes, savoury pies and sausage rolls Most disappointing. Wasted journey. WILL NOT VISIT AGAIN. Hassop Station nearby saved the day fortunately.

The service was also amazing, especially the two teenage girls that were on shift. Will definitely be returning when we return to Matlock. Thank you!
