Nice little cocktail bar. No food, just beers and cocktails. A bit rough and ready. Cocktails are 2 for £9 before 6 pm or 2 for £12 after.

We had seen this rustic place earlier in the day and wanted to return for happy hour.... when we called in to check their opening times the staff were really helpful. We went back and a large group of lads were in there .... did we brave it... we sure did and what a great time was had.... we met the best group of young lads from Derbyshire who were superstars and made our trip perfect. Worth a visit .... great seating feature that we loved.

Just had a great night here. Me and the hubby decided to come to Matlock for a couple of days and nearly passed this bar on the main road. Barman really friendly and helpful, offered to help us get a taxi back to our bed and breakfast. Drinks reasonably priced and a great vibe. Pub as a free juke box so you can play whatever music you like. It was quiet tonight as its midweek but still had a great time. Will be back every night until we leave.

The security here is completely overboard. A friend of mine took his shirt off for a moment as a joke an the bouncer instantly grabbed him and wrestled him in to the middle of the busy A6 road. Do not go to this place. No friendliness at all!!! Go to Monk or 2010 instead and you will enjoy it much much more!!!

This is the second time we have stopped here for lunch. We’ve only had the Tapas so far but the food has been a very good standard and the beers and wines are also excellent. It’s not a large venue, 30 people would pack it out. This means the service is quick, polite and very keen to ensure you have a good visit. Can’t recommend it enough. A perfect venue.

They didn't accept the two of us because we walked in instead of making a booking even though we sat down at a table that has just become free and didn't have the Reserved tab on it . Bad customer service and no explanation, it didn't make sense.

Me and my friend had halloumi and mushroom stack yesterday, both suffered with really bad food poisoning later that evening...

Sounds great, so what a shame that no one answers the phone - would have loved to have booked. Not even an answer phone or website.

Had a brill night last night with a small party of girlfriends. Selection of tapas were AMAZING as was everything else. Can’t wait to go back with my other half. Normally I can find a few ‘areas of improvement’ with some places ….but not here 😃 Thank you guys x

Nicely decorated restaurant/bar, however the food is over priced for what you get. Tiny portions and other than the calamari everything else we tried was mediocre at best. Cocktails were nice but most definitely wouldn’t recommend the food. Unfortunately won’t be going back.

I love the hammocks you can sit on, the decor of the place is also very nice. Friendly staff also, fantastic atmosphere.

Had a really enjoyable evening at Rubigo, the cocktails were delicious. We had to wait for our food as it was very busy and they were short staffed but the lovely girl behind the bar, who was serving everyone on her own, was apologetic and gave us some bread and oil/balsamic dip while we waited, she was really looking after her customers and was working at quite a pace, if only the service was this good everywhere else!

7 of us had to pile in unexpectedly, as the restaurant we had actually booked had a power cut. So all credit to the lovely young lady that took care of us, we had a great time with great food and cocktails, thank you!

Went again to eat and the food was incredible. It’s hands down the best I’ve eaten in Matlock. Pork belly skewers were fantastic, and the salt and pepper squid incredible, honestly. Went as a party of 12, and every single one of us was impressed with the food. Staff were are excellent, really friendly and chatty, and they did a great job of looking after us. Updated June 2021 Menu has reasonably changed, and I personally find the new menu limited and disappointing (I was really looking forward to belly pork and cheese lollipops again, both now gone). Decors also changed a bit. It still looks cool, very punk / tattoo, but I did prefer the decor before.

Visited for lunch and was very upset by the service we received. The food was lovely however the member of staff that served us was not friendly, forgot our drinks and walked round the whole time with a headphone in his ear! Really let the place down!

Never left a bad review in my entire life but feel like people deserve to know what kind of place this is. The ONLY saving grace of this establishment is Meg and she's the newest staff member out of them all. Guys, take it from me...respect your customers when they are coming in a group of 5 for both food and drinks spending a decent amount. Don't prioritise other customers who just want a p*** up by making it clear you want us to "hurry up and get the f**k out" as the bar woman so clearly stated when standing outside having a fag. It ain't cool. Unfortunately this is only a fraction of the negative experiences we had, do not have high expectations when going here.

We went to Rubigo just for drinks, two cocktails for £8.50 - how can you not? The bartender Megan was lovely, working the bar and running food on her own but still served us our drinks very promptly! A lovely place and a good selection of tapas dishes too! Would definitely recommend if you’re visiting and fancy something a little different.

Absolutely fantastic. Nicky the Manager is new to the bar and doing an amazing job! Very friendly, listens to the customers. The service is excellent and Jake works very well with her too! Both looked after us and made us feel very welcome. Food and cocktails are gorgeous. Thoroughly recommend and will definitely visit again. Thank you 🥰

First of all, the service is absolutely shocking. We were sat waiting for an hour before anyone came over to take our food order, and when it did arrive it was cold. I echo other people’s complaints in that there is a very strange odour throughout the place, almost like there is open drainage nearby. I will not be recommending this place to anyone.

Booked giving 4 weeks notice and they cancelled giving 4 hours notice! Reason given is that they were cancelling reservations due to new restrictions. These modifications of premises due to restrictions should have been in place already so appears they are stating that they weren’t complying with current regulations in the first place! At best a shocking and disgraceful display of management at worst a blatant disregard for government regulations

Everything very good, great price quality. Portions for two are small. All very good, great value for money. Servings for two are small.

Came in for a couple of drinks, despite us not being booked on a Saturday night, they made space for us. Drinks are fairly reasonably priced, the atmosphere of the place is lovely.

If I could give zero stars I would. My partner and I went in for lunch today. As we walked in and waited for a table (there was only one other table occupied), the waitress shouted across the restaurant “you need to sign” and pointed at a form behind us. No hello, no smile, no “hi guys, would you mind signing the form behind you and I’ll get you a table”. She seemed extremely annoyed that we had walked in. We turned round and left. We went to the bar and grill next door and we were welcomed warmly, greeted and asked to sign a form and sanitise our hands. No problem at all. I have never been treated so disgustingly By staff within a minute of entering an establishment. I would never go back and would warn anyone else from going too.

Tried booking this online, which when I rang for confirmation was told online booking system had not worked for sometime. Also stop serving food at 6pm,when we required an evening meal.

came in today as it opened for lunch....expecting to wait as the kitchen had only just opened which is fine. Unfortunately the waiter service and food was awful. From entering we were not greeted or made to feel welcome. I asked the bored looking waiter for advice on how many portions he would recommmend for me my partner and child to which he replied 'up to you'. After taking our order he proceeded to use the phone at a table swearing which was unprofessional. When the food arrived the ribs were stone cold..the chicken skewers looked like theyd come out of a farmfoods bag, and the meatballs where completely flavourless in a dish with plain tinned tomatoes. We paid and left without even a thankyou or goodbye. By far the worst restaurant i have ever been to..disgusting.

Booked a table for 9pm . When we arrived was told that a table wouldn't be free till 10pm . Obviously cant comment on much else as we were ushered off the premises. After reading the reviews on the place we are glad we couldn't get in, as it sounds like the place is being run poorly and is very average . So probably best to give this place a miss and spend your time/money elsewhere .

We visited here a couple of weeks ago for a friends birthday and we were really let down by the food and the service. We were completely ignored despite the place being near enough empty. No atmosphere and a strange smell which was unpleasant for us to sit through. We weren’t overly surprised when one of the group became ill the day after, the food was less than average. Maybe they need to check their food hygiene. Wouldn’t recommend.

We called in for drinks on their last night of opening before the dreaded lockdown!The place is nice and quirky, and well spaced out.As we only had drinks I can’t comment on the tapas, however the drinks were well presented, and the staff were very helpful and polite.

Me and my partner visited. The food was good. Slightly over priced. The cocktails were really nice. Service was slack. The owner and waitress didn’t seemed bothered about paying customers. They were to interested in friends stood around the bar area. It was freezing cold. I didn’t take my coat off the whole time. It was a week day so maybe that was the problem..?

Visited on the 21st for my sisters and mums birthday. The food is up where with the best tapas I’ve had it was just so let down by the service. Pre ordered an bottle of fizz for the table, wasnt there when we arrived and hadn’t to pour it are selves. Ordered all the drinks at the bar as we wasn’t asked at the table, the place was dead and all the staff were just chilling out at the bar. Massive thing was we was over charged by 37 quid, after some discussion it was taken off but was made more of a joke. Would return because of the food and now I know to expect poor service.

Visited as part of a table of 12 for a friend's birthday. We were asked to sit down so we did. There was only 3 menus on the table. Nobody came over to see if we needed any wine or further drinks. Eventually the waitress came over and rudely shouted down the table asking if we were ready to order. Upon pointing out we only had 3 menus between 12 she said there was no more menus. We eventually all got to view the menu and make an order. Food came fine however we were missing 3 dishes that came out half hour later which wasn't a massive issue as we had plenty of food. A member of our party went to the bar to order 2 bottles of white wine which both came warm with a ice bucket... That contained no ice. One of our party went to ask about this and came back with a couple of glasses of ice. Considering both bottles came to £40 it should be served at the appropriate temperature.Nobody asked how our food was at any point. As plates were cleared up and I can't recall being asked if any more drinks were needed or desert. At this point the place seemed to turn into a bar with awful loud drum and bass playing which is not really what you would choose when you think tapas. There is no excuse for the place being busy as the first time I went the place was empty and service just as shocking. Fortunately the food is nice and company was great so it was not a bad night but the owner seriously needs to train their team on the basics of customer service. The place does have potential.

We visited this place on the 15th February there was four people in our group, another couple entered at the same time as us, we asked if they were still serving food and we were informed that they were we got a table and waited to place our order, it was noticed that the other couple that came in at the same time had drinks and their food order had been taken within about 3 minutes of entering, after twenty minutes of waiting my wife went and asked if we could order, the waitress came and took our drinks order but didnt bother to asked for our food order, a family came in at this time and sat at a table , after another fifteen minutes our drinks finally arrived ( rather a long wait when we only ordered 2 glasses of wine a glass of lemonade and a simple cocktail ) at this point the family that had come in got up and left nobody had even bothered to aknowledge they were there, the man that bought our drinks said somebody would come soon to take food order, needless to say we didnt bother to order food, during this time there was only four other people in the premises the couple that came in the same time as us and two males that were having a cup of coffee, they lost food orders from seven people ( the four of us and the family of three that came in )all in all a very poor experience from staff who were just not interested.

Lovely food and one of the best quality tapas around at a reasonable price. Big thank you to Sky who went above and beyond to make a birthday lunch extra special. Thank you it was amazing.

Went here today with my partner for a tapas lunch. We ordered a variety of dishes from a comprehensive menu and a bottle of wine. We received beautifully cooked tapas covering fish, olives, vegetable, cheese, potato and rice dishes. Accompanying sauces were well matched and quantities were good. Luke and Sky made us feel comfortable and welcome. We will definitely back to try some of the remaining dishes. That could well mean a few visits in total! Best lunch I've had in a long time! Awesome food, big-city quality tapas in a small town (and very decent cocktails too). Great for meat eaters and veggy/vegans. They have a free jukebox and the decor is modern and quite individual. Lovely staff who can't do enough to help and window seats overlooking the main street, for people watching. All good here, pretty much the best you can find in Matlock!

We had an excellent meal on Christmas Eve. The food and wine was fab, and the staff and the atmosphere made the evening special.

Had a table for 2 and ordered a selection of tapas and a beer and glass of wine. Nice staff and owner was friendly and welcoming. Food was good - great arancini, lovely breads, chicken wings were ok and the wine and beer were great. Let down by being VERY loud and a load of drunk people which kind of ruined it, along with the loud dance music at 8.30PM. Close to Christmas so fair play if people want to have a bit of a party but will try a weekday next time!

We went to Rubigo on Saturday after visiting the market,The place was extremely busy,people waiting for tables.The man at the bar explained there was going to be a long wait on the food,also that staff rang in sick.we didn't mind as we were in no rush,we were served our drinks and shown a table.The decoration and service was brilliant and was kept informed when are food would be ready, we could see how busy they were and they did a fantastic effort keeping us happy. When are food arrived it looked delicious and also given a free dish as we had to wait. It was worth the wait we all enjoyed are visit and if we visited again we will be coming for lunch at Rubigo. We visited Matlock to look around the Christmas markets and get something to eat. We found Rubigo and was impressed by the menu and decor of the restaurant. The restaurant is extremely small and was busy. However we ordered our food around 2.45ish. There was only one waitress serving and there was a queue to order food and get drinks. About 10 minutes after ordering our cocktails arrived. We had no update on our food and how long it would be for the entire time we were there. At 4.10 we had still received no food and had seen two other tables to that arrived after us get served. I asked the waitress if she could check where our food was as we had been waiting over an hour and seen other table get served. The waitress apologised and told us the food would be five minutes. At 4.30 we still hadn’t received our food!!! We wasn’t a big party (3 of us). After seeing another table leave due to a long wait. We decide to pay for our drinks and leave. There was a very half hearted apology and no offer of a complimentary drink. As we were leaving our food did arrive at the table as one member of the party was still getting ready to leave. She noticed the food that was brought wasn’t even the correct order. We left £12 out of pocket. Almost 2 hours wasted. No food. Other tables complained as we left the restaurant. Having read some of your previous reviews I don’t understand how you are still in business as it seems the same thing has happened before. We will not be returning as we are not for the area and I would recommend anybody who actually wants to eat, find somewhere else.

We were visiting Matlock for the Christmas market and were delighted to find a tapas restaurant. Looked great, not too busy and the food smelt amazing, but unfortunately that's where the positive experience ended...

Third visit here this year. Each visit has been highly enjoyable and the quality of the food has been exceptional. Special mention for the unusually thick but very tasty balsamic vinegar

Came here for lunch on a Saturday, it wasn't too busy inside so had the pick of tables. Despite being short staffed, the service was great, very friendly and attentive.

Had a lunchtime meal and a drink here, the food was amazing, we had paella and squid and it was really affordable, the atmosphere was perfect and the staff were friendly.

Had reserved a table online for me and my partner for his 30th. When we arrived, the person serving looked briefly in the reservation book and shook her head at the waitress, who then just asked if we could sit in the window which was just a ledge (not much space for tapas!) as they needed to save the four person table. Not very impressed and left us trying to find another restaurant on a Saturday night. Very disappointing.

Called for drinks only and was very impressed by the bar staff helping me to choose the right beer for me with tasters on offer. The AKB Pilsner was really good. The food that others were having looked spot on but it wasn't the right time for us to eat. We will go back.

Been eager to try here for a while but sadly disappointed. I know that tapas isn’t always the best value for money, but with most dishes being priced at £8-9 you expect a decent, high quality portion. Unfortunately not the case here. Pork belly (£9) was over cooked and tough. Squid and halloumi dishes (both £8) were very ordinary. Be aware that the prices on their Facebook page menu were around £2-3 per dish higher when we went. Real shame because the decor is really nice.

What a great little place! We were staying in Matlock for a couple of nights to explore the area and saw Rubigo on the way in. Went there on a Saturday night and loved it. Food, cocktails, atmosphere, service - all were great. We thought the menu would be mainly Spanish but it wasn’t at all, they just adopted the concept of tapas (great idea btw). All dishes we ordered were absolutely scrumptious. Definitely recommend it and would go back if in the area again.

My boyfriend and I visited the restaurant for the first time bank holiday Sunday. The place has great decor, but it was completely empty. Upon seeing the prices on the menu we could see why. We decided to order (three mains and two sides of fries) thinking maybe the portions are bigger, they weren’t. We ended up paying £38 for three mains, two fries and two drinks. Not great value for money.

As a group of 4 we popped in at 6pm on a Saturday for a couple of hours. We all enjoyed the experience with good food and a good vibe and atmosphere in the room. The music was just the right volume to add to the atmosphere but not too loud. I would definitely recommend to visit with the only negative being the tapas dishes a couple of pounds dearer than comparable restaurants.

We went to this restaurant Saturday evening on a spontaneous trip to Matlock, we had hoped to go to Pollojack next door after looking at the menu but found it was closed, unsure why?

Great food and service. I really enjoyed the Squid and my wife loved the Peppers stuffed with cheese. Party of four and we all enjoyed what we had. Good value I thought but I am used to city prices.

Stopped in Matlock on a Saturday, lovely interior. The food looked nice, breads looked freshly made and tasted lovely. The potato bravas were made using defrosted potatoes so didn’t feel very nice to eat. We were charged £4 for a pint of coke which is very extortionate!

What a gem of a restaurant. Great friendly service. Food was lovely, especially the bread and oil, patatas bravas and fillet steak skewers. Wine was great and all good value. Friendliest staff, great music and a relaxing environment. We’ll definitely be back

Visited for an evening meal. The food was delicious, best meal we have had in a while. Unfortunately it took a long time to take our initial drink order and the staff didn't seem very organised. When we left we were chased down the street by a member of staff who thought we had left without paying, fortunately another staff member came to confirm that we had paid, you need to communicate better guys, it's very embarrassing to be accused of not paying!

Went in Friday evening as per a reccomendation (22nd Feb) looking forward to Tapas but had to leave as couldnt put up with a toddler running all over and shouting. Clearly nothing was bening done to quiten the child, so drank up and left!

We visited last night and the food was delicious. The choice of wines was great and the service was attentive, friendly and really helpful. I would highly recommend a night out here. We will be going back.

Still reasonably new and easily the best bar in town. They do great food and cocktails and have an interesting line up of beers to try. Their food is very popular so if you are visiting at the weekend it is definitely a good idea to book. It is quite a small venue so finding a seat is often a problem at busy times. If that’s the only complaint you can find with a place though you’re on to a winner. They do breakfast as well which I haven’t done yet but it is on my to do list. It is the only place in town where you can sit at a table get your drinks bought over and more often than not get some complimentary bar snacks such as olives too thrown into the bargain. They have also recently started putting live entertainment on st the weekend which I worried could be over powering loud as in some of the other bars in town. I was pleasantly surprised that I could still hear others at the table though which made it rather splendid. Definitely worth a visit if you’re out shopping for antiques or on a big night out.

We run a B&B; in the local area so we always when we have time try to find little gems for our adult only guests to enjoy! Rubigo fits that to a tee, it kind of feels like your on holiday in a spanish bar but the rustic decor adds more charm. Stewert the bar man was really friendly and couldn't do enough for us. Went back again at weekend after a brilliant meal a few months ago. Nice to see the menu is continually being updated with more and more fantastic choices; while still keeping some of my previous favourites. Also added a few more beers to the menu which was good to sample them all. Camden Hells is a new fav of mine. Great place and great food.
