Find was OK, good service and nice pub

Having visited several times our latest visit as a family was very disappointing. Food was below par smaller portions, one very over cooked fish and an eton mess sundae with mainly vanilla ice cream with miserly amounts of chopped strawberries and meringue pieces and no added wafers as usual. Staff were however very nice and professional and I emailed the manager with both the above feedback but also to compliment staff however very disappointed with lack of response to date!

Nice charming pub. Great food. Nice toilets. Good service. Wasn’t too busy daytime on a Tuesday as we wanted a quieter time.

Went for dinner yesterday food was not good the new special salad was terrible great big chunks of onion,tomatoes and cucumber with grated salad it was awful had the chicken kebab as a main one kebab chicken was dry and for the price one small kebab not worth the money

A very nice family friendly and orientated pub and restaurant with plenty of seating indoor and outdoor next to a small stream. A good place for a bit to eat and a pint.

Have visited here a few times and food and service have always been excellent. Food is reasonably priced. Plenty of car parking spaces aswell which makes parking easy. Would definitely recommend for a family meal.

Had a lovely meal out with my husband. Food was very good and excellent friendly staff, look forward to returning soon.

Good but expensive for what it is

Booked as a party of 11. The table allocated was set for 9. In fairness this was rectified ok. Ordered a plate of fish and chips very disappointing. The portion of fish was very small, the batter was very hard and had trouble cutting it. There wasn't a lot of fish inside. They seemed to run out of food and the service was slow.

Service was quick and friendly, the food was tasty with a good range of British pub food options. We sat near a log burner which was lovely and warm although the background music was a bit too loud to easily have a conversation at the table. The place has plenty of parking and a large outdoor area which I'm sure would be great in the summer.

I found myself with no one home and really wanted roast beef and Yorkshire pudding so I decided to take myself out for lunch. I booked a 12.30 table online, but it didn't register the booking so had to rebook for 12 and dash. I wish I hadn't. Arrived literally 3 minutes early, went inside and was made to wait outside......not massively welcoming! I ended up ordering the 3 meat roast. The meat was nice, not like shoe leather or flavourless as I have experienced at other places. But this was let down by Yorkshire's that in texture resembled prawn Crackers, that tasted of nothing other than stale. When when I sent them back I was told that they're all like it so they didnt bother sending replacements and would take them off the bill. The roast potatoes were OK, but being sprinkled with lots of what I think was black pepper spoiled them for me....other than seasoning when cooking please allow people to season their own food and don't get all chefy with black pepper. The carrots were lovely, sadly I only had 4 slices along with a few peas and a huge pile of raw cabbage. No one likes soggy vegetables, but raw is no better. The rhubarb and apple crumble would have been lovely had there been a reasonable amount of fruit. The crumble was lovely not in the least soggy and what little fruit there was tasted very nice, not over sweetened. But there really was barely any of it under the crumble! The chair was very uncomfortable and as is often the case when you go out alone, the table felt squeezed into an awkward spot. The coffee was lovely and my waitress was fabulous. Very smiley and attentive without constantly interrupting. So in conclusion, not awful, but not great. It wouldn't take much to really improve it though.

Went on a Wednesday night which is a quiz night and had a really good time.

First visit here. The food and staff were amazing. I ordered the veggie roast which came out without the main component. I recieved 3 separate apologies from the waitresses, we were then told that my meal was free due to the error. They also were very accommodating regarding my milk intolerance and made me a dairy free sundae. We will certainly be returning.

Really good food, attentive service and cosy atmosphere. Great pub.

This place u should try,we've been a few times now & never disappoints

Had our Christmas get together at the Millstream on a busy Saturday evening. The staff were lovely and very attentive. My tart starters was nice, my turkey main course was a tad disappointing. 3 tiny sprouts, one tiny parsnip (I love my veg) was a bit of a joke. The meat itself was OK as were the potatoes. My cheesecake dessert was also ok. All in all a mixed bag, I've eaten here a few times and never had reason to be disappointed. I put it down to being very very busy. Saying that, I would definitely return and give them another go.

Very disappointed with our visit to Millstream this evening. Myself & my fiancé went to the Millstream 3 years ago for our first date and had a lovely meal. However this was not the case tonight. Firstly as we arrived our table wasn’t ready (which was fine as we were early) but it took ages to be served a drink at the bar despite being the only customers at the bar. For starters, my pate came out frozen solid & had to be sent back, the salt & pepper chicken was just fried chicken with no taste, no ‘salt & pepper’ aspect to it what’s so ever. We both had ‘beef brisket’ for mains, for £17 per person it was awful quality, shop bought slices of beef with frozen veg and gravy that tasted like it was made from granules despite being described on the menu as ‘red wine jus’. Terrible food for the amount of money, menu sounds 100% more appetising than what you’re actually served. Would advise spending your money elsewhere.

The staff were amazingly friendly and on a personal note went above and beyond when the sole of my boot came apart and offering their help to fix it. Thank you Millstream 😊

I go back here every 3 months, forgetting how terrible it was. Service is a joke. Food is disgusting. Every single time. Worst place to eat in the area. Really disgusting.

Went for food and the quiz. Food was good although the grill was broken (was informed beforehand , so acceptable) Quizz was an absolute shambles. The mike not working properly, the guy couldn’t pronounce the words in some of the questions, and people were using the internet.

We booked here due to its seeming popularity but were disappointed and underwhelmed. The main part of the dishes were ok and nothing more, but the sides and accompaniments weren't up to scratch.

Nice enough pub with decent atmosphere. Probably quite a good family pub, plenty of car parking spaces but not a single bike rack, and only 1 vegan beer, nothing on tap. Updated October 2023: More vegan beers and food good and service very good

Nice atmosphere and good service.

Had our lunch here whilst waiting for our son to finish his college audition at the nearby performing arts college. The atmosphere was relaxed and chilled, the waiting staff welcoming and friendly , the food absolutely delicious and the drinks on point. Definitely worth having a meal when you happen to be in Hitchin.

Love the Sunday roast here - good value for money. But pleaasssee add stuffing as an optional side dish, it's one of the best bits of a roast, regardless of what meat you choose!

Not a great experience - but disappointing. They did their best to accommodate us when running late. Food wasn't hot. Roast potatoes were a bit to crispy and hard to cut and the roast pork was dry. Beef was good. Desserts were fine. No bad gluten free menu. Service was a bit slow. Eaten there before with no issues but a few years ago.

Great restaurant! The food is amazing and generous too. Really nice atmosphere, and the staff are really friendly too.

I have just had a meal with friends and thoroughly enjoyed the food. I had the beer battered fish and chips and chose the caramel dessert on the 'specials' menu. Both were really tasty and good size portions. I don't usually take the time to review but was so impressed with Thea that served us. Nothing was too much for her to make our evening special. She is a delight. Thank you and we will be back

Pub grub, good beer, pretty location.

An anniversary meal where the staff were slow to serve and we were left with our finish plates for over 30 minutes and not offered any puddings. Ended up getting our own dessert menus and even though ready to order not one member of the 5 staff standing around came to take our order. Very poor service which is a shame as the food was lovely

As always the food was excellent although our visit today was marred by the attitude of the waitress. Having seen a couple of groups who came in and ordered after us and got served while we were waiting I politely enquired where our food was. The waitress went to find out. Came back with our lunch and said we had only been waiting 14 minutes (very precise !!) by my watch more like 24 minutes … and sarcastically said ‘food has to be cooked.’ A minor gripe but there is no need to be sarcastic even if it was said with a smile !!!!!!

Lovely staff, basic but OK food. Easy parking.

Enjoy a nice drink on the terrace in the evening. A pub with a nice atmosphere. If I had been given a tray or help carrying the glasses and the choice of snacks for drinks had been greater, it would have been five stars.

We came here with friends for an evening meal. Food was fantastic and the service was excellent. We would definitely recommend and can't wait to return

Just had a prawn cocktail and hubby had a chicken and stuffing sandwich. What made it so disappointing was the bread. My prawn cocktail came with white bread which was dry and crusty on one side as if it had been left out for a couple of hours. (I like bread to be really fresh) so I took it back and asked for a replacement, the replacement was only a slight improvement. I didn’t eat it all. I think it has only been out an hour, rather than the requisite 2. Prawn cocktail was definitely lacking in sauce. I didn’t complain as it looked lovely, but lacked taste. Hubby’s sandwich came out about 10 mins later - the chicken was lovely by the way. Now we’re on our way home he’s just told me he thinks he got the bread I sent back! He said it felt like it was half toasted. I wish he’d have said as I would have complained! Too late now though.

A family party of 8. Table service very good and friendly. Food was excellent. Comfortable seats and suitable table in alcove. Pleasant decor and grounds poetry next to the millstream fire a peaceful walk. Lots of seats outside. Great place only a short distance from centre of Hitchin and Train station

We went for a quick bite to eat on Saturday night. We hadn't made a booking but they fitted us in. We sat at a nice table and the atmosphere was lovely. Our waitress, Erin was amazing. She was very professional and friendly and looked after our every need. She is definitely an asset to this pub. The food came out quickly and was hot and tasted very nice. Would definitely recommend this place.

Really surprised by the good reviews! Didn't enjoy the rotisserie chicken, the skin wasn't crispy. The chips were cold. Was served by a very rude lady manager who had an attitude problem. The younger staff were very polite and helpful. This was the 2nd time visiting. The first visit was a roast dinner where they'd run out of all veg except peas so all of the roasts turned up with just peas. Won't make the same mistake and visit Millstream again for food!

Very nice atmosphere, good starters and nice main, had the steak and chicken, requested a jacket potato but received chips instead, however they were fairly quick on resolving this, overall very pleasant dining experience and good range of food

Stopped for a quick bite because it looked nice from the road. Got a selection of starters to fill a gap and it did the trick :)

Just the fact that my meal was swimming in gravy. When you have white sauce pie, I dont want it covered in Gravy espeicially when I don't really like gravy. I would have expected a small jug so you can add yourself. Sadly spoiled my main course. The other food was great.

Discovered this place a few months ago now, impressed on our first visit and said I would be back, so our second time here, and just like the first time, excellent in every way, service, food and overall ho well we was looked after. Will be coming back that's for sure.

I have been here Several times a year for family meals and find the food and services value outstanding for the price that is charged, always pre book not to be disappointed. Food is cooked fresh to ordered but has always left us happy. And the deserts are a must to try!

Food portions were small for this style of restaurant for the price. Staff were OK but made me feel like we were intruding. Chicken wings were nice tho!

Booked a table for nine to celebrate my 60th birthday. Everything went very well the service was superb, food was served quickly with no mistakes and was of excellent quality and value for money. Would highly recommend the Millstream.

Nice pub with cool outdoor tables and seats. Ample parking right near the path to the park. Easy to order from the app.

Standard gastro pub food. If you want the usual pub grub, I'd recommend going here. Price is generally what you'd expect, too. Service is very good.

Good food with a nice beer garden. Standard pub food at reasonable prices, we didn’t go inside but the outside seating is very pleasant.

Not great - missing food from our order, meals coming out 15 minutes after others, incorrect/out of date menus causing confusion, incorrect charges on the bill. Probably not helped by having 4 different waiters/waitresses during our visit.

Food is general midrange pub stuff - I've visited a few times and it has never been bad nor amazing. Prices and service are just ok. I really like the building and atmosphere here and the location is convenient, too.

A really nice well priced, perfectly furnished restaurant/pub in an 'out of the way' location. I visit here regularly and the quality of service, food and drink makes it my favourite go to local for booking birthday meals and for weekend drinks

My Mums 85th birthday on Wednesday 17th of May so 15 of us celebrated on the Thursday evening. All enjoyed the food and experience. The only thing that came up was the Signature Salad was bland and the red cabbage was overpowered by vinegar.

Passed this on our way to Letchworth and it looked very busy so we decided to pop in on our way back. A really nice place and still busy, enjoyed a meal and a drink. Staff were very friendly and the service was good. Definitely going back again.

I went there yesterday with my family and it was the worst service ever. All they were interested is in taking the order and stood over our heads , and when we said can you give us 2 mins so that we can look at the menu properly she got very moody and pushy. The fish was very oily and the chicken was just tasteless The food was brought and we had to ask for cutlery and condiments! And finally presented with a wrong bill which if I had not checked was 3 times the bill . An overall terrible experience and Definitely won’t be going there in a hurry

Lovely roast chicken 🍗 Sunday lunch. Huge portion of beautifully cooked chicken. My friend loved his lunch too, we were both full to the brim. My ice cream was delicious 😋

We have always loved the Millstream for many years it would be our local "guaranteed a decent meal" place to go. However have to say the food has gone downhill - whether it's due to prices rising and wanting to keep the menu reasonable, perhaps, but the some of the portions were tiny and it seemed chicken either very overdone or questionably under. Notably the boneless chicken pieces meal was particularly sorrowful. The staff were great as always though, friendly, helpful and attentive. Unfortunately will not be back any time soon.

Uncomfortable and broken chair, problems with card payment as wouldn't accept either of my HSBC cards that work with no problems before and after on the same day.

Beer was flat but staff are friendly

They offered a gluten-free menu and the food was okay. However, they kept having technical difficulties and we have to give our order 3 times. When the food first came they gave us the wrong tables food. But luckily we were a big party and not in a rush to leave

We come here most Sundays and are always well looked after, a group of ladies come from church, and we are well known by most of the staff most of us have roast dinner, the beef is always beautiful, the veg are sometimes not cooked enough, and they never quite get the roast potatoes right. These are only small things so should be easy to put right. We love coming here.

Food was nice but food took ages to come , they did knock some money off the bill though .

The food was good. However the service was terrible, the manager had a whinge that we didn't tell them on the online booking that my father has a walker for his mobility despite there being no box on the online form for accessibility. Then before we had sat down the server was asking us if we wanted any drinks, we had not had any chance to look at the drinks menu.

We went for lunch. Food is what you expect for the price but very nice. Staff very friendly and the surroundings are very nice, clean and welcoming.

Fantastic staff who were willing to have a chat. What made the day even better was the option to try a new cocktail that had just been created. LOVE this place.

Lovely place and I know it's more a chicken/steak place but I'm vegan and went with a group of meat eaters who wanted to eat there. Unfortunately I ordered the vegan Chick'n steak or whatever it was called as it looked interesting. When it arrived it looked like a big standard quorn fillet which was hard & chewy like it had been over microwaved with the smallest portion of peas and French Fries I've ever seen, no sauce, salad or anything to make it more interesting, all for over a tenner. Needless to say I had to drench it in ketchup & mustard to give it a bit of flavour. If I go out to eat, I expect something better than I would have at home, not worse.

Pretty poor unfortunately. Ribs were cold, rotisserie chicken really dry, hardly any meat in the pie. Chips and salad were nice. Very overpriced for the overall quality though.

I edited my review down a star, let me explain! In summer we love hanging out here in the garden, the food is amazing especially the Sunday roasts and the staff are lovely, really enjoyed the live music in the garden that happened sometimes... But it's winter at the moment and dogs aren't allowed inside. It would be great if we could bring the dog inside, just into one part of the bar to shelter from the cold and rain... we would be there all the time!

A lovely place to bring your family, staff were warm and friendly and made sure we had everything we needed, service was pretty quick too, and the food was delicious! 😁

It was average visit according to me.! If you are good to have chicken and non-veg than it is good for those fellows.!

The staff were very accommodating as our group arrived at different times due to traffic. They also allowed us to get dessert after the kitchen had officially closed - which was very much appreciated!
