Really lovely meal all 4 of us had a different meal with a pudding and we enjoyed it all. Will definitely return

Unfortunately for the first time in 10 years we’ve been let down. Obviously can’t cope when it’s busy on a Sunday. 1 hour between starter and main. Sliced the beef across the grain so it was shoe leather and only a thimble of gravy, should really offer a gravy boat to self serve. I wonder what’s changed.

Me and my mum come here for a spot of lunch, the food was amazing and the service was brilliant, thanks Tom! I will highly recommend and defiantly revisit

Had a lovely experience at the Green Man. Service was quick and friendly, and our server, Sam, was really helpful. The Buy 1 get 1 free mains was a great bonus!!

Ok venue and staff. Good prices BUT my wife had the Mushroom Pie and when she opened the pie there was absolutely nothing inside but some runny tasteless sauce. They changed the pie but the 2nd one wasn't any better. I had the Lamb Cottage Pie but what I got was a cold small leg of lamb in a dish with some mash potato and a veg gravy and some undercooked cabbage. It was hardly a traditional cottage pie which I had expected. Again we asked that my coarse was changed. The new dish was a bit hotter but tasteless. Another table of ladies near us also had cause to complain about their food. Come on chef, let's do it right please. The carpet in the hallway and stairs leading to the toilets was old, completely worn out, disgusting and filthy, yuk. The gents toilet were also disgusting. Attention to detail very lacking here in this establishment.

Came with my husband and friends! Not sure about the attitude of the man who served us.. there was no apology for forgetting the dessert menu but he was on his own at first so maybe if he had help it would have helped him

Took my Mum here for a birthday meal, our hosts were kind, friendly and very hospitable. The food was top notch, we both chose the sirloin steak, which was cooked the way requested. If the weather was better, I would have loved to enjoy the food in the beer garden to the back.

Good location with lovely views over the countryside from the conservatory. Friendly and efficient service. Not cheap, though. Main courses were £15 to 25, starters £6 to 8, and desserts £6 to 10. Our bill was £45 each, including one bottle of modest wine and coffee to finish.

The staff that were on duty tried their best but very understaffed hence why the food and service were slow. The Beef came out eventually but cold and full of fat , thought the potatoes would fill me up but they must have been microwaved too long as the knife couldn’t cut through them. You could hear someone biting into the leeks in Hitchin, especially as the blunt knives couldn’t cut through them. Only reason it’s 2 stars because of the poor staff. Don’t know what the fuss is about with this place that’s 3 x in a row it’s been below average

Lovely breakfast in the Green Man this morning. We had the stacked pancakes and full breakfast, very tasty, would recommend. Lovely view from the conservatory.

Lovely setting with a large conservatory overlooking the valley to the north. Beautiful view while you dine. Also, an outdoor beer garden with its own bar so you don't have to keep going in and out to the main bars.

We had an excellent lunch on Monday. The food was good and service excellent. There was no rush and it was a lovely leisurely lunch with my Daughter. Sam and her staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. Could not ask for more. See you all again soon.

My immediate go-to place when I'm in the mood for brilliant food, or in this case emergency kitchen due to losing power at home following the massive storm and flooding in and around my cottage. If you fancy proper country fare, you can have venison, wild boar plus other game, but also has a broad veggie/vegan selection too. The view of the Chilterns is fab too ps being a solo diner isn't a problem; you don't stick out at all

We had brunch here yesterday morning, the bacon and sausage sandwiches were awesome, proper doorstep bread! The pub is lovely and the view from the conservatory is lovely, looking across the countryside. There's a good selection of tea and coffee, including decaf. The staff are friendly and helpful and the pub is easily accessible, with clean accessible toilets and plenty of parking. We'll definitely be back, the menu looked amazing and there's a good selection of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks available, all good!

We didn't book we just walked in on a Tuesday lunchtime for a family lunch. It was quite busy which we didn't expect but that wasn't a problem and we got a table in the conservatory area. Lovely atmosphere, relaxed, and tables are spaced so you can relax and chat without feeling you are too close to other diners. Great selection of food for every taste on the main menu and the specials, and we were asked straight away if we had any allergies etc. Service was efficient and there was no pressure to finish quickly so we could take our time. Drinks were served first and our order taken. We had plenty of time to chat and enjoy the sunshine coming in through the overhead windows with lovely views over the countryside out the back. Food was freshly cooked and good value. We enjoyed a couple of starters to share and can recommend the Scotch Egg with the runny yolk! Pork belly bites were also very good. We all had something different for our main course and finished with desert, everything was lovely. This is certainly somewhere we'll come back to as the food, friendly and efficient staff and lovely atmosphere made for a relaxed and happy lunch at a bit of a difficult time for our family. Thanks!

Cottage pie croquettes are a must! Cheese toastie was enormous, pork belly delicious. We will be back.

Lovely location and fantastic staff. We were chatting with a shorter lady who took our order and was very helpful regarding the specials board which was showing a selection of game dishes due to come up on the following days. Although these were not available yet she advised when they would be and all about them and we will certainly be coming back to give them a try. In fact, this lady was very welcoming and quite made our visit, she found us a space despite it being very busy that night and ensured our order was okay and we got the right menus - I am gf - without having to ask. She was so helpful and informative the fact that jacket potatoes had sold out and the game options were not available were smoothed over and instead of being disappointed we just felt well catered for and appreciated. Well done.

I really love this pub. Chilled, unpretentious and beautiful views. Went for lunch with some friends. Food was really tasty as always but what made our day was the fantastic service from Layla. She was a star and took such great care of us. She was off out for her Birthday that evening - hope you had a lovely time Layla.

we were looked after very well nothing was to much trouble. we asked if there was any chance of some cheese and biscuits as this was not on the menu John went away and we had a lovely cheese board to finish our meal.

Apart from the menu had changed but not the menu cards, the food was lovely. The waitress was so apologetic and accommodating when we ordered something that was no longer in the menu

The service was very good, the atmosphere was relaxing, clean and modern. The view out of the conservatory and from the garden was amazing. The food didn't disappoint either. Highly recommended. I thoroughly enjoyed the garden patch medley...I will have the garden plot medley next time I visit.

30 mins drive for us and normally very nice, but today really poor for our family meal. Food wasn’t up to scratch and service really poor and slow. Sunday roast over cooked, fish was mostly batter over cooked, and x2 chicken dishes over cooked and very dried out/hard..: Excuse was under staffed 🫣🫣

I love coming to the green man for food, it is always great and Ella was a lovely server!

Such a lovely location for lunch or dinner. They had a good gluten free choice. The sunday roast was more than enough for one! The mini dessert and hot drink is perfect if your eyes are bigger than your belly.

Had a really lovely breakfast and would highly recommend as very good price and great service and food. If going for a main meal my partner and I always highly recommend the burger and lasagna.

I understand you get busy on a sunny Sunday, but you could just explain to your guests that when they come in. We walked in, not all tables were full, found a table sat down, went to the bar to ask for a menu and literally was barked at by staff behind bar. He shouted at me have you booked and when I said no, he shouted back we are not serving food, we’re too busy and didn’t even ask if I wanted to order a drink. Used to love this pub, but you need to train your staff, because this is not the way to treat people!!!

My family and I came here for a Saturday evening meal, The food was good and the service was good. Staff are friendly and helpful. The pub has lots of character and the garden has wonderful views over the downs. I would definitely return.

We gathered here for a good friend's 30th, which was prearranged with the venue. It was apparent straight away that we weren't welcome. The customer service was appalling, where told that we couldn't order food with the excuse they had guest coming in who hadn't booked, not really the truth as we were told you can't book a table out side dinning. It was basically tough luck. A bit of common curiosity would go a miss, been abrupt & talking to us like S#£% doesn't put you in a good light. We did eventually get to eat, but once again, we could order as a group. The group been around 10 to 15 people. As we stayed all day, we had an evening meal with the same rude service.. one good thing I could say is the food was very good. I won't be here again.

July152024 calmer today but maybe lots of people outside. Syaff great. Food and beer still good. Will keep on going. Amazing place with great bar and a significant conservatory. Bar is half timbered and with a real fire. Focuses on food and the choice is good. Not the cheapest but not expensive and the view is worth a fortune. staff great but a little under resourced. All in all a great place ill be going back to.
