Taken over by new owners about 2 years ago. Good business plan. Excellent beer and decent burger and chicken wing style menu. It's a sports bar so expect a bit of noise when the games on. Dog and people friendly. Nice sun trap of a beer garden. Best proper pub in royston

Great layout, been here on 2 occasions now and been warmly welcomed both times. Food is amazing in both value and quality. Lots to choose from and a good amount of customizability. To the 2 servers that worked lunchtime on the 9th Feb Thank you for your hospitality!

It was a nice pub but a sports bar really lol decor is lovely at tv’s at every booth but not great for a first date lol but if to watch the footie great! Service was good too!

Ok, bit of a hard one to review. We popped in here around lunchtime on a Sunday and the place was empty as it had just opened. Looked nice and had some craft (albeit Heineken owned big beer "craft") on tap. However about half an hour later it was full of footy lads. We seem to have accidentally gone to the lads pub, which isn't really our thing. So we left pretty soon. Not sure if the crowd is different at other times, so ymmv. We only planned on having a half anyway so not a big deal. Good stuff - very clean, well presented in general. Bad stuff - too many lads for me and a bit sport focussed. Only craft is Heineken owned. Other - theres a pool table, if you can get close to it.

Fantastic food and ale selection. A lovely charming pub that doesn't try to be something it's not, the food is fantastic and at a good price, with various offers throughout the week. Branded a "sports bar" it caters for all whilst being clean and welcoming.

Great IPA.. burgers are extraordinary... Great for a beer...

I came in tonight for the NFL, always a pain for scheduling in pubs. The bartender was knowledgeable, friendly, and made me feel welcome. Service was a 10, atmosphere was a 10 (for a Sunday) and its undoubtedly the best place to watch sports in Royston

What a terrible place and the people running it have no clue or idea what they are doing. Ordered 3 rare steaks and received 3 well done steaks politely talked to waitress she agreed and offered to replace them took them away then the big boss man came out told us they are perfect and rare when I pointed out that there is no red nor bloody juice coming out he said we didn’t know what we were talking about and he would not redo them and just get out. STAY AWAY

RUDE....Is how I would describe them they can NOT take criticism at all. We ordered our food all was good but when our food arrived it was bad not at all good. We had raw rock hard roast potatoes carrots that smelt & tasted musty, dog hair in the food & steak that was really well done (was meant to rare) inedible. So obviously we complained straight away & there answer was “get out” they kicked us out for complaining about the food DISGUSTING absolutely DISGRACEFUL. Shouldn’t be allowed to trade. DEFINITELY WONT BE GOING BACK AND WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.

Nice atmosphere and set up with the decor of a sports bar. but none alcoholic drinks are way too expensive for what you get, approaching the prices of the cheaper pints of alcohol.

I walked down to the pub at 4 and spoke to one of the people who work at the pub and questioned about buying a ticket for the event. The guy said to come back at 5 as they will be selling them on the door for £7 each, so I decided to go and get some cash out and wait. After the hour wait I walked in with my cash in hand to get shoved out of the door by the doorman who obviously thinks he is of hire power than everyone else, and I asked him if I could purchase 2 tickets and he said they don’t have any so go away (knowing full well that they had some) I will make sure me and my mates won’t go here anymore due to the rude doorman and the lack of management.

Very disappointed food was awful,no atmosphere, really it's a young lads sports bar,not much else to say!

We had a very pleasant pub meal at reasonable prices. My husband had the rack of ribs in BBQ sauce served with chips and onion rings, all perfectly cooked and crispy, and I loved my Beer Battered Cod Goujons with mashed potato and salad, but there was a choice of chips or new potatoes too. Real ale also exellent and friendly bar atmosphere.

I definitely think this place is improving, new refurbishments are going a long way. Staff were all nice. No toilet roll in the loos all evening (womens or mens) Still bit of a way to go before it's great though.

Nice pub to go watch the football. At the start the one member of staff at the bar seemed to be a bit swamped but service improved when someone else jumped in to help them. Alright prices and a pretty good atmosphere.

In spite of sticky tables and a little coldwhat came out of the kitchen was spectacular miles superior to the postie the food was delicious the chicken wings amazing what a cook sometimes looks can be deceiving but what came out the kitchen was totally surprising a great place to eat

OK for sports on TV... but beer is expensive

Me and a couple of friends visited on Friday the 28th and overall it was lovely.Lovely food and drinks as well as friendly bar staff, however someone who I assume was the landlord or the manager came in and started shouting at the staff extremely loudly, it was very unprofessional and you could hear it through the whole pub, it completely ruined our night and made us all feel really uncomfortable. Also one of the men outside we spoke to in the smoking area informed me that the men’s toilets were broken and were flooding with urine and that was what we smelled walking by. This man's shoes got a bit dirty which obviously isn’t ideal, so unfortunately we probably won’t be visiting again.

Wednesday evening 25th July. Walked in to find no one at the bar for almost 5 mins. Had to ask a youngish guy where bar staff were. He wasn't sure. Magiccaly he appeared few minutes later to which he served all his "friends" from pool table before me who had been waiting. Would of given 0 if possible.

It was fine. Prosecco was warm. Service was slow but it was busy so understandable. Athmosphere was good

Excellent second visit, the pub has a great atmosphere, various sports on the tv, plenty of alcoholic choices at the bar with great staff and service, vibrant place full of life. Still didn't have time for the food which looks good.

Maybe I rolled in at a bad time. It was quite busy and noisy and my pint wasn't great. I've been in a lot worse places but it wouldn't be my first choice in Royston.

Visited on NYE and the pub had a great atmosphere, American Basketball on the TV, plenty of choices at the bar with great staff and service, vibrant place full of life, well worth a visit in the future to try the food.

Ok range of drinks. Facilities ok, but not great. Website says there is music on every Thursday, this is no longer the case (should be updated). Or a pub quiz on Wednesday night's either....

Pleasant place to visit with plenty of outside seating. Some good quality sharing nibbles on the menu, such as peppered squid, halloomi chips, prawns; all well presented and cooked. Small car park but plenty of other parking around.

Well turned out pub offering wide selection of beers and live music events. Good atmosphere and mix of people with music piped just loud enough to hear without you having to raise your voice to be heard. Chips are delicious.

One of the best hobgoblin gold pints I've had on draught. Decent selection of beer. Caters to various audiences, with sports and quiet corners.

This pub looks old fashioned on the outside but the interior has been given something of modern makeover It is a perfectly good pub, has interesting hi n, serves meals which we didn't try and a very decent outdoor seating area

Visited here on Wednesday 16th August for lunch. We had hunted around Letchworth/Baldock for ages before my daughter looked on trip advisor and discovered this little gem.

Llamamos para el sábado el almuerzo, el hombre del bar era agradable. Buenas cervezas y sidras. Teníamos comida típica de bar que estaba bien. Aparentemente el pub no sirve mucha comida (almuerzo de domingo en particular) en los meses de verano y así no había los budines. Me decepcionó que prefieren los lugares más grandes para apoyar en la parte baja de la colina, en lugar de estos pubs tradicionales.

Best burgers I've had ever. I've tried them all and nowhere else comes close.

The meals we had were excellent,very good and speedy service.The food was hot and tasty.My wife said that the vegetarian choice was amazing not just the usual pasta.A bit of the beaten track but that's what makes it great.

Best burgers in the area and they're half price on a Monday and a Tuesday :) staff are friendly and they have a nice beer garden for when we have decent weather.

We had burgers which were very good, however the place needs to be cleaned up and the service wasn't that friendly (contrary to what I'd expected from other reviews)

We come here for lunch on Sunday for the Sunday roasts after hearing about them from friends and we was not disappointed the pub was quite busy with the football but we was very relaxed sat in the restaurant side of the pub the beef roast's was very nice very big portion for the price and comes with a lovey homemade Yorkshire pudding. Highly recommend for family's very polite staff and cheep food!!

My friends and I ate here on good Friday. Most of the staff were friendly and accommodating and the smokey burger was lovely. Sadly the whole experience was let down by the Caesar salad. It was simply iceberg lettuce and chicken strips that was it and for £11 I think it's a little poor. We did complain when the food came out, we went to the bar with the so called salad and were told by who I believe was the chef that " that's how they come here" I really did think that generally they do come with croutons, Parmesan, romaine lettuce and anchovies but perhaps I wrong. When we came to pay at the end of our meal the man behind the bar did take it seriously and immediately took the salads off our bill and apologised. So all in all its a nice little place to eat but just check what you think you are ordering so as not to be disappointed. I have put some photos on for you to make up your own mind about the salad.

Good home cooked food , have been three times now and never been disappointed . This is a typical Sunday lunch pub but also fine dining if required .The sweets are very good , you must try the apple pie .

Great food and really cheap for the standard of the food we come here for the half price burgers and pizzas my wife had the veggie burger and I had the smokey burger the smokey was cooked perfectly and come with home made chips and onion rings the pub was really busy but the food come out in good time and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit will be back soon!!

Seeking to avoid cooking and to eat somewhere I had nt tried already in town I walked to the Green Man (an arduous journey of 2 minutes). Having drunk there I was familiar with its layout which allows diners to be away from the main bar area and the big screen. The meal, from a choice of three roasts, is generous, tasty and well presented and there is no problem with swapping out parsnips for an extra Yorkshire. The dining area is uncluttered, the staff helpful and the atmosphere convivial. The Green Man may not be the cheapest Sunday lunch in town but is a good one and value for money. Recommended.

We popped in here a few weeks back having previously visited last year with friends, I remember when this pub was freshly refurbished and looked good. However it now looks run down and dirty. The men's toilets in particular had mold on the walls and smelled similar to a public toilet. Pool table had one cue and the place was devoid of soul. Whoever is in charge of this place has clearly dropped the ball. Plus points: Food was good and they had sky sports. Otherwise nothing special

Due to the excellent reviews here we booked The Green Man to meet friends at a half way point. Although slightly put off by the aroma of the previous night's beer, the service and food were outstanding. We had the huge roast dinners- highly recommended! ... Note to parents- there's no baby change.

Came here for a weekend family lunch and had a brilliant time. The food was delicious (I recommend the halloumi chips), efficient staff and the pubs was very dog friendly.

Popped in for a bite to eat with family and friends after hearing from others and was not disappointed when we arrived nice welcome from the bar staff with a great range of drinks!! I had the smokey burger and can say that's the best burger I've ever had!!! Very big but for what you get really cheep!! Great taste and the skin on chips wow amazing!! Will definitely be coming back very soon!Also they do the burgers for half price on Monday and Tuesday's

Always been a favourite of mine in royston. Reasonably priced, great food, fantastic atmosphere and lovely staff. Then last night when I went in to ask if they'd seen my younger brother who I'd not been able to contact when he didn't meet me (luckily was just late because of traffic with a dead battery on his phone) as 3 hours after he'd left home, I was getting seriously worried! No luck so I kept looking round town. A few hours later I received a message on Facebook from Sarah, who I'd spoken to at the green man, asking if I'd found him and if he was alright. Though this may have been a simple act of kindness, her genuine concern really touched me and cannot even be described as customer service, its so far beyond that!

I'm on my own for a week, so I am sampling the local pubs and gastropubs. The Green Man is definitely a pub and the (inside) tables are in a bar, not a restaurant room. This is not unpleasant and made for a relaxed atmosphere. I ordered bread to keep my hunger in check while waiting for the main course. This was of a higher quality than I expected and presented very well. The fish, chips and peas were also very good - batter crisp and not greasy, skin on chips balanced between the crisp outside and soft potato centre. There were less standard options on the menu as well as some tempting looking burgers, and I may well go back to try these.The bar staff were friendly and efficient. With one drink I got out for £15. I've had worse for more in quite a few pubs. Recommended.

We have made many visits to this public house and I would like to contribute my experience there.It is a great place to eat and drink and has outside sitting area also which is good for families.The service is friendly and welcoming always no matter who serves you.Just to pop in for a drink or a meal is well worth the visit.The menu is very good for a light meal or for a full dinner.I have always been pleased with our food.

They still had chicken or beef roast so had the beef as a review said how nice it was. It was scummy. Roast potatoes delicious, cauliflower cheese, roast Carrots and onion and roast parsnips and home made Yorkshire also very good not to mention lots of lovely beef. Service excellent. Well worth a visit.

We've visited the Green Man several times over the last few years. The pub offers great value for money, and a relatively interesting selection of craft beers - bottled and on tap - as well as the standard lagers. The burgers are really tasty and good value. I particularly like the Black & Blue burger. We've been for an acoustic night before where the quality of music was really good and made for an enjoyable atmosphere. Overall, a great local pub.

I had a burger and it was very nice, typical pub grub. My otherhalf had a pizza that was £12 that wasn't value for money. You could get a nice pizza from the freezer in tesco. Overall not bad and we would go back, but maybe just for the burgers

I had a small halloumi salad which was well presented and not actually small! Nice fresh leaves and a variety of components. Friendly service too.

Visited the Green Man with 7 friends on a Monday evening - it was one of the few pubs in the area serving hot food at this time. The staff were very pleasant and the prices reasonable. Best rib-eye steak I've had in ages and the rest of the group were very impressed with the quality of their food too. Chef seemed to cope well with two large groups as we didn't have to wait long for our food to arrive. Good atmosphere - nice blend of a traditional pub and restaurant. If you are in Royston, try this place.
