We only popped in for a drink, but a very friendly pub.

The staff were very kind and our time there was good.

Always a great atmosphere in here, nice country pub for drinks or for food.

I recently visited this pub for the first time, looking to have a roast dinner. When I arrived, I was not greeted politely or served nicely, instead a male member of staff was very rude to me. I was informed that I was too late to have a roast dinner. I was not offered me a different menu to choose from and then when other customers were eating pizza at the bar, I was turned away despite their being many seats available.

Great food and atmosphere, I was in a large group and we had ab amazing meal. We had 3 courses and a selection of wines. Pre booked as a group.

Went for a pub-run tonight (10km run then beers) Got back to the pub, pints amazing, service great and very good vibe. Hot chips exceptional tonight.

The pizzas here are to die for. I highly recommend the sweet and creamy pizza. Staff are fantastic, and the atmosphere is amazing. Definitely worth a visit.

Lovely pub, not too busy. Food was great and portions are huge, kindly given box's to take away the extra.

Out of all the times I have been it’s been lovely and nice but not that welcoming.

They highlight how they have a wide range of gin, however when we visited, the ale selection was poor, just old speckled hen and greene King ipa. A bit disappointed.

Following my visit on 22/1/22, I was left very very disappointed. Cauliflower curry was cold when I cut into it. Asked for the steak to be cooked well done, but was bloody when it arrived. Staying away from this place.

Great village pub, on my last visit the fire was going ...lovely atmosphere, dog friendly and good food !!!

Nice friendly pub,good Gin selection

We had a work team lunch today, amazing food and really good value for money. The staff were polite, efficient and very accommodating. This was my first time out for lunch since March 20 and I felt very comfortable. Will definitely be back.

We had a fabulous afternoon with delicious roast dinners with all the trimmings, cask ale, great wines; absolutely fabulous in the beautiful countryside garden with loads of outside tables. Thank you very much Ingrida, Nigel and all the lovely staff. We’ll be booking again soon. Andrew.

Really nice pub meal in a charming country location. Attractive garden with a large seating area in the lovely village of Gosmore. Traditional menu with plenty of options at a good price. Cosy indoors with a fireplace. Did takeaway during lockdown which was much appreciated. We will be back!

I visited this pub/restaurant with my wife recently. Friendly, good service, very competitively priced and our take away fish and chips meals were fantastic.

Very well looked after from the time I got there , wonderful polite staff and didn't have to wait long for my Sunday lunch

Scrumptious starter of goats cheese, endive, roast beetroot with apple slices, followed by a sirloin steak cooked beautifully - medium rare. Served with noodles and Japanese dips. Part of a meal for two for Valentines Day. My husband chose the Vegan option and it too was delicious. Plus a bottle of wine, amazing deal. Thank you

We had Christmas dinner and really enjoyed the hospitality. Good fun with the other guests with a large fantastic big dinner with plenty of time in a relaxed atmosphere. A wonderful experience.

Ok pub, those pictures highly exaggerated

Just had an amazing meal here. 18 of us for a works Christmas meal. Greeted on arrival with a glass of fizz. Followed by 3 courses then mince pies and coffee. Great value for money. Fantastically cooked, the beef was perfect! Not one complaint, everyone loved it. Attentive service, Nigel and his team couldn’t do enough for us. Will definitely go back. Thank you. Lovely curry on a Wednesday and a delicious sticky toffee pudding to follow. Very reasonable and the staff were excellent

Not the best place - food was average & menu very small - felt out of place if you weren't local - won't be going back - not great cooks

good food, fab atmosphere, super service. Front bar with a cosy log fire is favourite. back bar good for the footy or rugby with a wide, curved screen tv. A great array of gins.

My friend and I fell into the pub yesterday at 12.00 desperate for a loo and coffee after walking around St Ippolyts and Gosmore where we grew up. The lady who served us was friendly, welcoming, and the coffee was excellent, as was the lovely variety of sandwiches we, and husbands, picked-and-mixed! The sausage sarnies particularly deserve a mention. We'll certainly return when we meet up again in the spring.

Have visited before, mainly on a Sunday for the lovely roast dinner. Came at lunch time today , had a fantastic and very filling steak meal. Very friendly staff , would highly recommend!

Nigel is doing a great job. Good clean house with well kept beers. Need to try the bangers and mash!

A nice pub good food and good staff a proper pub well done

What a lovely upscale pub in a quiet country area, came across this pub on way back from visiting the Herts pub of the year if anything this pub should be the winner as very updated, nice garden area,friendly staff and chatty customers, good selection of beers and food looked amazing, this pub offers a free bangers n mash on Mondays from 6 pm , so will be returning for that as it's very popular, so if you want a nice relaxing pub with great food then pop in to the bird in hand you won't be disappointed !

Went there this lunchtime for drinks; it seemed nice enough; it has a decent beer garden, though it could possibly do with some maintenance. The staff were quick and efficient.

We’ve visited a few times and always had great service of lovely beers and fabulous food whether it’s a hearty burger or freshly prepared tasty sandwiches. Great friendly staff and punters, super selection of wines and spirits in a lovely environment with huge gardens....can’t wait until next time.

Great pub with a very good Landlord! The food is good with a wide selection. Great choice of good wines, gins & beer! The garden is a great size especially if you have children, they can run around & play without disturbing other guests.

Friendly staff and glorious outdoor patio and seating areas in a lovely countryside setting. The pub used to have a cozy traditional interior but it has recently undergone refurbishment and has a minimalist sterile interior. The wood panelling has been painted over and carpets replaced with flooring and harsh lighting installed. The urban style in my opinion does not suit the rural environment but one must move on with the times and appeal to modern taste. however sometimes traditional is best and doesn’t date.

Proper pub with good food, beer and a great selection of gin. Staff are really friendly too.

The pub has been decorated and re furbished very well.!!! However the staff not very welcoming, a lesson in customer service would not hurt. The prawn sandwiches had way to much cocktail sauce in, served with a coleslaw, made it uncomplimentary, salad garnish would have been much better. Not a lot of idea really about food preparation.. This was very messy to eat and the bread very soggy. I did tell them when left, the only response was raised eyes.. Will not go back again. The pub was empty, which speaks volumes..

Lovely friendly welcome from staff on a sunny day ..... perfect to sit outside & enjoy the country village views & fresh air. We very much enjoyed our Sausage & Mash with Peas & Onion Gravy. Generous portions of delicious meaty sausages, creamy mash, tasty gravy. What more could you ask for?

Came to the Bird in Hand at short notice and was able to be seated pretty quickly. The pub was very clean and the tables shone. The food was delicious and cooked to order. A good varied menu including kids menu. The staff were very attentive at all times and nothing was too much trouble. We would definitely recommend this pub.

This is our second visit to the pub & we wasnt disappointed. Orginally came with a Groupon offer but returned for my birthday & broughtthe family. Staff are friendly & very efficent. The food was lovely. We came on a Tuesday evening which had a meal offer, Burger + pint/glass of wine/soft drink for £10. Bargain. Steak burger was so meaty & served with a ciabatta roll. Very tasty meal, huge portions. A big pub garden too for children to explore & plenty of seating for the families. We will return. Thank you Bird in Hand.

The change from the previous ownership is black and white. Now it is nicely decorated, friendly staff, good food and drink, reasonable prices. It is a real hit. We will be back. Enjoyed the DJ on a Sunday afternoon too.

Staff very snobby, not what you need when visiting a country pub on a lovely sunny afternoon.

I reviewed this pub some time ago when under previous ownership and was truly shocking, especially if you dared to bring a child within 100 yards of the bar.

Fantastic food and drinks are on offer at this lovely rural pub. We had the sirloin steaks followed by chocolate pudding and ice cream. Simply beautiful with generously sized portions. The staff were welcoming and attentive throughout. We found the pub through a Groupon voucher and will definitely be back in the future, voucher or not. Thanks to all concerned for a great lunch.

The soul night (last night (27/5) was excellent. The brilliant DJ got everybody dancing. - real party atmosphere. The booze choice is very good with all the best gins, well kept beer and the house white wine is outstanding and very reasonably priced.

Travelled from Hertford for soul night - fantastic music, atmosphere, staff and owners. Can’t wait for our next visit 😊👍🍻

Regulars have absolute priority for service here. If you are not one can expect to be ignored at the bar.

Very rude!! Had booked a table via groupon as a gift from sister in Australia. Arrived to be barked at by stressed landlord who promptly stated we didn’t have a table as he cancelled everything via email. No apology He was rude to other people too. Very click village pub and only regulars served. Won’t ever be back. No need for rudeness

No apology and just plain rude to me and my mother in law. He only serves his regulars at bar as very click village pub. I work in customer services and would never speak to people like that when are only comment was that we had booked a table !!!

Looks just like your average local pub but the food is far from average. Scallops are very good, and the steak cheese burger was the best I’ve had in a while. Wait between courses was just right.

Our first meal here and we were blown away with the quality of the food, the size of the portions, the choice of chips or dauphinoise potatoes, great wine selection (not your usual pub choices) but more than anything - the super friendly welcome by the landlady, landlord and locals. We have recommended it to friends and family and will be back soon - particularly as it is within walking distance! Regret not trying this pub before for more than a drink outside.

Such a shame the owner doesn’t like children as the food was lovely and just a walk around the corner.

Me and my girlfriend are currently on a mini tour of pub roast dinners and last Sunday we headed for The Bird In Hand. We’re very glad we did!

I ve been in this place recently and I have to say food is very good and tasty and the beer is good despite the small choice. Super recommended

Had lunch here yesterday, steak and chips, cherry tomatoes on the vine and mushrooms - really lovely tasty well cooked food. There were three of us eating and drinking copious amounts of wine ( house red merlot was great), I have to go back to try the gnocchi which looked lovely. The pub has been done up, the stinky old carpets, poor food and weird stalking landlady have gone. Lovely fresh clean bars with wooden floors . Lovely friendly staff all the way through. Old speckled hen!!!!!!!!!!!!! and loads of choice of gins

Local pub. Trying hard. And improving

Visited last Saturday and must say the food was to die for. Fantastic deco and furnished to a very high standard and more importantly very friendly staff they could not do enough to make my visit a pleasant experience. I look forward to my next visit!! . Thank you!

Hamburguesas, patatas fritas, increíble halloumi gran selección de ginebras, buena cerveza y patatas fritas encantador - además de una máquina de helados que el amor infantil y un par de escalar en el jardín de la cerveza - ¡perfecto!

En el último un pub que ofrece cervezas, vinos y una gran selección de ginebras, junto con un menú fresco y cambiante. Probar las patatas fritas halloumi, seguido por una de las hamburguesas y luego un helado de su nueva Máquina de helados, y sirven...

Nuestro grupo de tres adultos y tres niños tuvimos una cena aquí esta semana. El personal era muy amable y nada era demasiado problema. Menú gin fue una agradable sorpresa! Hemos estado viajando por comer en algunos pubs y nos gustó ver algunas cosas diferentes...

Actualmente sentarme afuera de la aves en la mano disfrutando de una excelente comida, buena relación calidad-precio, el más barato comer alrededor. Agradable, personal atento y recientemente renovado. Continuará para venir aquí!

Este pub podría ser fantástico! Pero yo he estado allí un par de veces para ser mirábanse por la gente que se reuniera ronda un extremo de la barra. El lugar apesta como un antiguo boozer. . . Es una absoluta abominación. Greene king necesita para aplicar la acción.

I was in the pub when the situation described by lecw42 occurred and in the interests of fair play feel compelled to comment. The pub is on a route popular with walkers and cyclists and I can understand frustration when the facilities are used by non patrons. In this instance it was immediately obvious a genuine mistake had been made and the landlord apologised profusely, highly embarrassed. I think it is a little unfair to condemn the entire operation over such an insignificant slip up, when most people would have accepted the genuinely proffered apologies and left with an amusing anecdote rather than try to damage a family's new venture.

Stopped off after an evening stroll with my husband. We'd tried The Bull next door before (lovely) so tried this for a change. Nice evening so I waited on the benches out front while my husband got the drinks. Popped to the loo before the walk home and on my way out and overheard the barman / manager (?): it's rude not to ask if you want to use the loos love. I mean I'd have said yes but it's rude not to askMe: presumably customers can use the loos?Barman: yesMe: I am one. I was having a drink out the front with my husband. I won't be again.
