Great service, nice little beer garden, great food. Only let down was some of the meals were lukewarm at best. Tasty but definitely not hot. Sweet potato fries were the best I’ve had anywhere! Crispy and bbq dusted.

This is a cracking pub, period. I’m sitting in here now and it’s banged out. Can barely get a table to sit and have a drink or eat. As the description says, it has bags of charm since it’s a really old building. It’s what those architectural boffs like to call quirky. The highlights for me are that the mens toilets are spotless and smell good too. And that’s been consistent every time I’ve been in here. Secondly. The staff are lovely. Service with a real smile not a fake one. They’re just a nice happy bunch. I do believe they are all female bar staff. It may have something to do with the gaffer is a lady. I dunno. And it really doesn’t matter. Fact is. They’re nice staff. Prices are what you would expect. Food was pretty good but I only ate in here at lunch time a couple of times. I dunno if they have an evening menu or not. Either way, it’s a great atmosphere and a good place to enjoy ur evening in part or full.

Me and my friends went out for a bite to eat, as not seen each other in months, so we decided to try out the Cooper's arms nice little pub in beautiful Hitchin, well soon as we arrived asked for a table and was ignored by the female manager, to.then be sit by a kind waitress, prefers our food which was late and cold, complained to manager and nothing was resolved, so left there and then, clear to say won't be back and the manager there should learn how to deal and talk with people, absolute shocking experience makes me wonder how she was appointed in the first place. Won't be back again. Unless she has left.

I had a spot of lunch in the Coopers on the very day I moved to Hitchin more than 40 years ago, and about two decades later took my 'legal' 18-year-old first born there for his first official pint on the grounds that it was the only place in the town centre where he wasn't already a known face, but apart from those two landmarks I'm hardly been a regular even though it's within walking distance. But it seemed a good choice for a spot of lunch in a place which had lots of room and would be unlikely to be crowded, which are things to bear in mind in these troubled times. Glad to see the popular Tuesday night quiz sessions are back, but we were there for food and it was a successful sortie - friendly service, solid pub grub and well-observed post-lockdown protocols, It still won't be my first choice pub in the town but we came away well-fed and well-satisfied.

We love The Coopers Arms but unfortunately on this occasion the service was dire. We waited at least half an hour for the starters and then over an hour for he mains. The vegetables were served a long while before the mains and were, therefore cold and inedible. The problem seemed to be staffing with only two waiters who were also trying to serve at the bar at the same time. A family do spoiled I’m sorry to say.

I like the Coopers Arms. Nice beer, nice quiet atmosphere. But I was quite annoyed today when they refused to take a Scottish £5 note. Last time I checked, the UK including Scotland still shared a single currency. I wouldn't have minded so much if the staff had not been so unsympathetic and indifferent when I pointed out that Scottish notes are legal tender.. Anyway, still a nice pub, but this has slightly soured it for me.

It was by sheer chance, ( and a cock-up at Hitchin Priory ) that we found this venue. A family group of 20 had arranged to meet up at Hitchin Priory to celebrate a Golden Wedding anniversary and a 40th Wedding Anniversary with family coming from all over the world !!!! On our arrival there, we were told we would not be able to eat there as had previously been arranged. So in an emergency, we were fortunate to find, just 150 yards up the road, the wonderful Coopers Arms.We were all delightfully welcomed and had a thoroughly enjoyable family reunion, experiencing good food and a very friendly atmosphere. Historically, this is a significant building, with part of it being part of an old Monastery, built around 1400, and the rest of considerable age. Credit to the management for enabling us to enjoy the occasion so much. Thank you.

One of many historic pubs in Hitchin, this one is located on a street that has maintained it's historic look & feel. The pub itself has a central bar serving two rooms with seating for food in both bars. There is live sports tv. The food is ok, nothing special but quite cheap for Hitchin. Ok selection of beers, again nothing special but the pub is busy and has a very nice "old worlde" look & feel and is comfortable, service can be very slow as only one bar attendant serving the week before xmas.. Overall and nice place to stop for a drink and watch live sports.

Puedes pedir tu comida y bebidas en el bar. Dos de nosotros tuvimos la carne asada, los otros dos pollos y patatas fritas salchichas pequeñas persona y guisantes. We had a lovely evening meal in this typical market town pub in the oldest street in Hitchin, After a very warm welcome from the landlord and landlady, we ordered our drinks and meal. The choice on the menu was extremely good even for our challenging party - one vegetarian, one eats only poultry plus two normal. All dietary tastes were not only catered for, but had choice. The food was what we agreed could be best described as "very good pub food - honest, substantial quantities and very good value". The pub itself is a very interesting building - clearly genuinely old with many interesting nooks and crannies. The hosts are a charming couple - warm and solicitous - nothing was too much trouble. Our two colleagues had fish and chips which they said was also very good and we all had clean plates by the end. It's not Michelin star stuff but for £7 a head it was very good quality and so filling I didn't have dinner in the evening. Check out the really old features in the bars like the wonderful old fireplace and surround. The hints are still there of a much earlier ancient building.. Possibly a Guildhall of the Tylers. Fairly decent ales .. McMullens so it depends on your personal preference I guess unless you go for the standard lagers, ciders, wines etc.Good pub grub food with decent sized portions. Parking out back for those driving, and also an area to relax outside over a pint. I like it to meet friends for a chat and being just a couple of minutes from the busy town centre it's really handy when in town shopping for a break.

A traditional looking pub slightly away from the main pub/restaurant hot spots, it’s in a road that seems to be largely residential, but is nonetheless only a couple of minutes’ walk from the walk from the town centre. It consists of two bars of a similar size, running either side of a central bar counter. The right hand bar is probably the cosier of the two, and this had plenty of black beams on the ceiling, a carpeted floor and a large walk-in fire-place to one side, although all it contains these days is a small wood burning stove and a couple of small benches, which must be a cosy spot in the colder weather. Old timber supports suggest that this may be quite an old building, and there is also some exposed brick partitioning, although possibly these don’t look quite so original. There was a fruit machine in the corner and a small TV above it was showing the football, although the volume was off so this was not too intrusive. Stripy furniture should as you might get in a Premier Inn completed the décor.Food wise, the menu offered an extensive selection of “pub grub” dishes, with options such as lasagne, fish & chips, scampi and chips, pie of the day, sausage & mash, pie of the day, etc., and these were mostly priced around the £7 mark. My Chicken Tikka Masala was a generous portion and came with small pots of mango chutney as well as an onion salad to accompany the poppadom which is unusual in a pub. Taste wise, it was ok, certainly nothing special, and judging on the speed with which it arrived, clearly straight out of a packet. Sometimes it would be nice if they just pretended to make an effort in cooking it rather than delivering it to your table before you’ve even supped the head off your pint. Beers on tap were all from the McMullen’s stable with their Country Bitter, IPA, AK and another whose name escapes me. Ciders were Strongbow and Aspall’s Suffolk. Overall this certainly isn’t a bad pub, but somehow it just didn’t quite hit the spot for me, although it’s difficult to pin down exactly why.

This pub is pretty central in the lovely town of Hitchin, having said this it's a bit off the beaten track but well worth seeking out.The food is really, really good, it doesn't have the formulaic feel which has become the norm in most pubs; when I asked I was told that virtually all the food is cooked from scratch on the premises, which will be why it's not only good but has some really well cooked classics. Unusually for a pub you can confidently order the steak, mine was cooked to perfection, medium rare, and very tender! The staff is good, I was served by a great young guy, just the right mix of friendliness and courtesy - a rare mix in this day and age and a credit to the place! The only strange thing I found was that the car park was packed but very few people in the pub, I'm sure this must put lots of people off coming in as it looks as though the pub will be heaving...very strange. Maybe locals use it as free parking for shopping - not sure, either way with less cars parked up I'm sure the pub would be a lot busier...but then again perhaps it's better this way! ;))
