Lots of real ales but all cloudy don't clean the lines please don't put you mobile phone on to watch anything manager. dosnt like it but no signs up saying its a quite pub made feel very unwelcome won't ever visit again

Food was pretty good and staff were nice enough but where I draw issue is the false advertising. I came here expecting a lovely half moon as it says in the name, but was absolutely flabbergasted when I say a FULL MOON!!! I think it’s fair to say I was not impressed, do better half moon pub

My happy place and favourite pub in Hitchin. A proper pub with a fantastic selection of well kept cask ales. They also have a nice range of keg / craft beer and a good variety of wines and spirits, so something for everyone! The back garden is a great place for a pint in summer as it is a real sun trap. I wish I could visit more regularly!

This has become my regular pub while I'm working in hitchin. Friendly staff, nice beer. A traditional British pub. Oh and the Scotch Eggs are awesome 👌

I was deliriously happy to find not just Verdant but also Polly's on tap at the Half Moon after a long hike with my partner on Thursday afternoon. Apart from the craft beer shop I despaired of ever getting a decent pint of anything anywhere else in Hitchin. Brilliant, really made my day. 👌🍻

Popped in on the off chance on way from Luton. Lovely proper pub with a nice range of beers and price. The garden out back looked pretty good too

Great selection of beers and a great atmosphere. All the people here are friendly too. The outside area is lovely for a drink in the summer. And the snack selection is great.

Lots of people suggested I try the pork pies from the local butcher Allinghams that the pubs sells. The pie I had was fridge cold, stale pastry, dry filling and no jelly. Dreadful. I am aware that a pork pie is a traditional cold pie but should be served at room temperature rather than straight from the fridge. The real problem was the pie was not fresh! Just such a shame you guys are not checking food as it goes out. Saying that the beer was well looked after and the staff were great, lovely local atmosphere too.

Great pub-best for ales in Hitchin by a mile. The only flaw I wish they would fix is the very strong nasty smell: I am sure a steam carpet cleaner would make a huge difference. Then we have ourselves a perfect 5 star establishment.

Impressive range of real ales, (and plenty of other beers if that's not your bag). Lots of friendly punters, a large and well used outside space / beer garden. Good, swift service from friendly staff. Clean toilets. Decent! I'll be back!

This is easily the best pub in Hitchin. The previous review by Sarah M is just nonsense. She clearly doesn't know what a good pub is.

Always a broad choice of ales from various breweries, Oakham and Tring being regularly on. Main pub of choice when visiting Hitchin.

I've been to the Half Moon half a dozen times when visiting Hitchin and loved it every time. The bar staff are friendly and Freddie the owner is very helpful and chatty ☺️ There are always at least 4 guest beers if not more, and they are always great condition. We popped in on a Sunday lunch time. A few years back it would have been heaving. We were the only ones there! Sign of the times maybe.

Lovely real ale pub with a great atmosphere. Staff are always knowledgeable about the ales.

The welcome was excellent as was the choice of beers including a stout (in summer!). We sat outside and enjoyed the evening sunshine with lots of other well behaved customers.

I last reviewed this pub 5 years ago but have visited many times since, this time for yet another beer festival. Great choice of cask ales again, if not as many as the first time I reviewed, but nonetheless something for everyone, including some gin slushes and keg beers. Entertainment throughout the afternoon was first class and continued well into the evening after we left. The garden was packed and the food from a visiting burger van was top notch. I have also visited outside of the beer festival and the pub still has a wide choice of ales. I have no hesitation in recommending this wonderful pub.

We loved there. When hitched visit, we have been there. We were very lucky because live music was there. We danced, listed music. Kids were very happy. Good atmosphere.

Great outdoor seating areas... Good crowd... The cider I had was superb, and apparently so was the real ale.

This pub has been one of, if not the best place to sample a good variety of real ales in top condition in the county for a number of years. It's what many would consider a proper, traditional pub. No themes, no screens, no slot machines or video games just great beer and a simple food choice if you're hungry. This is no gastropub, but what you get is wholesome and tasty.

Unlike many real ale pubs which often have the reputation of being spit and sawdust places inhabited by bearded men, The Half Moon is a smart and comfortably furnished pub just a short walk from the town centre in Hitchin. With around 6 ales regularly on handpump, along with real cider, the staff are friendly and the place appears pretty busy. We entered early on a Friday evening and had to wait for a seat for around 30 minutes. The beer is excellent and the staff friendly and knowledgable. I gather they did food pre-COVID, but this doesn't appear to have restarted, but may do soon. This is a great little pub and I would recommend it to anyone for a night out.

If you're into real ales or ciders, this place is for you. The beer is superbly kept, and a good turnover ensures different beers pretty much every day. It's like going into a mini beer festival any day of the week! I simply cannot fault this pub. Keep it up!!

Definitely a hidden gem, located away from the main town however the garden space is really nice, great for summer.

Good old fashioned pub, great atmosphere, great staff and great position

My grandad Pateman used this pub practically every day with his mates there is an old photo on the wall depicting a coach outing my grandfather grandmother and aunt Emma are their. Although pub has been updated it has still got a nice townly feel to it. Also has good selection of draught beers and a nice glass of red wine?? Hic! hic!.

Excellent! We sat in the garden from 12 until 7pm and had a lovely day. There was a queue for tables after about 4pm on a Friday - they don't book tables. Nice real ale and excellent table service. Thanks!

I have always had a good time at The Half Moon! Even during Covid they have been really careful to ensure that customers and staff are as safe as possible.
