Old White Horse in North Hertfordshire

Having been to different pubs in different places for many years, this might be my favourite pub ever. Absolutely packed at 5pm on a Sunday afternoon. Everyone smiling. Great staff and great food. I couldn't be happier.

Lovely place to meet up with friends, very reasonable prices on food and drink, friendlt staff and relaxing environment.

Booked to have Sunday roast. When we got there a member of staff pointed to a table and said we could sit there. No-one came to take our order so after a while we ordered drinks via QR code, the drinks were not delivered to our table, we saw the drinks sitting at the bar for a long while before we decided to go get them ourselves. Still, no-one had come to take our food order - Sunday roast cannot be ordered via QR code - so we managed to get the attention of a staff member who told us to order at the bar, only to be told there was no Sunday roast! Cannot judge the food as didn't get any, but the service and the atmosphere was let down by immature staff. And we will not be visiting again.

Smell of somebody smoking drugs in the beer garden was not good.

The food here is honestly something different the pizza I had “the hombre” was amazing suggest by are bar tender and server Josh loved it first time in I’ll definitely be back for the great food and fantastic service

Lovely pub, great place to enjoy a brief drink!

We often come here for 2-4-1 pizza Mondays as a group. The team are always happy to accommodate a large table and the quality of the food or service goes un-impacted. Really good vegan options and an affordable spot to grab a pizza and catch up with friends. Friendly and helpful team, especially Josh who is always super accommodating and great customer service!

Great little bar in Baldock! Son and his fiancé took us there for supper, which was great, especially the pizza which we watched being cooked! Service awesome, staff managed to squeeze us in between reservations during a busy time, great way to look after your customers! Will certainly be back on our next visit! Aloha pizza, with pineapple spot on!

Lovely friendly staff nothing is a problem. Monday night is buy one get one free on pizzas and they are delicious!!

We had a great evening yesterday at balstock. Staff were fantastic given the craziness they had to contend with. Thank you to all the staff working but big thank you to Alice who served us with a huge smile and was super welcoming.

Me and my partner just visited for Balstock festival. The staff put up with so much chaos and still managed to keep a smile whilst serving endless amounts of tipsy customers. Great service and great patience! I hope they are treated well and I would 100% recommend to anyone passing by Baldock.

What a great surprise, always looking for somewhere new and the old White Horse did not disappoint. Super friendly staff, the food was really good with a great choice of drinks. Highly recommended, had a chilled out evening in a pub that was both comfortable and inviting, we will be back!

Practical garden, good beer, not rammed and dog friendly...1st visit of many.

Dropped in on a warm afternoon half way home for a break and a pint. Busy pub particularly in the garden, plenty of groups of happy people. Only drawback is the £60 minimum cost of failing to register my car as parked in the car park. I can recall no sign of any notice inside and no member of staff mentioned it.

Ad hoc visit while travelling through the area. Kinda a steakhouse vibe, though pizzas is the thing. Mac n cheese with beef brisket really good, the 3 for £15 starter is excellent value. Staff very friendly, service quick and portions good. Good value for money and recommended 👍

Really the best pub in Baldock. It’s my local and if it weren’t I’d still travel for it. The plant-based options (and there’s more than 1 or 2!) are great and the staff are friendly, welcoming, and treat everyone with curtesy and like you’re an old friend. I can’t recommend it enough. Also good value for money.

Visited for Father's Day pub lunch. Family all like pizza and/or a Sunday roast so this ticked the boxes for both. Took advantage of 3 for £15 on starters, with Popcorn chick*n (vegan), BBQ chicken wings and cheesy garlic pizza bread. All really good sides, BBQ chicken wings were soo good but pleasantly surprised by vegan popcorn chick*n and the garlic pizza bread was full of flavour but light enough to work well as a starter/side. We had 2 x confit chicken, 1 x kids margherita and 1 x pepperoni pizza. The hand made, stone baked pizzas were lovely and have given us a good (and I'd guess much healthier) alternative to the usual takeaway pizza options. The confit chicken was very generous with tons of veg and a large Yorkshire pudding. Only feedback would be to include a little pot of gravy as there's never enough on the plate! There's a good selection of drinks, service was good and the place has a nice atmosphere. Will be back or get a takeaway another day. Cheers 🍻

This pub consistently supplies us with a great experience. Josh was managing the bar area with his usual efficiency, responding to a sudden influx of walkers, without losing sight of the other people eating and drinking. He had support from Jack who is a great addition to the team, both providing great customer service. Food was great! I had the Thai Massaman curry with chicken as a change from my favourite Lardo Pizza. My husband had the pizza of the month which he said was fabulous. He also sampled last months and again really enjoyed having a different option from the main menu. There have been some other staff joining and the team worked well together. The outside has had a renovation and looks great with its blue and white look. As always will be returning regularly as why travel when we have this within walking distance.

Nice stop on a trip from Northampton back to London, Pizza made in front of you in open kitchen, really happy to come across this place. Good range of beers.

I am writing this review as I have just received a parking fine for parking in the car park! I stopped off here for a pint on my way back from an excursion (the beer was very average) and then continued home. I was utterly confused when I then received a fine from Britannia parking! On further investigation, the reason given for the fine is that I didn't register my car at the bar. I did not see any notices (I can't say that I was looking out for any) and the bar staff certainly did not mention it. I am sure that all locals know about this, but others like myself, do not expect to be looking for parking restriction notices when they park in a pub car park!! If the Old White Horse wishes to enter into a private parking agreement then the least they can do is to make sure that the bar staff mention the situation to every customer who they do not recognise as a regular/local. My not particularly nice pint has proved to be very expensive indeed!

Dirty toilets, slow service was waiting a while on our food. Not convenient with a new born, however when food arrived it was delicious so not an overall bad experience

This is a great place for large groups. Plenty of seating and different configurations for the tables to suit all. Nice selection of 0% beer/ale as well which was great too for the drivers in the group, as well as some Brewpoint options on draught. We went for pizza and were not disappointed - tasty dough, well cooked crust and lovely toppings, all quite different. Kids meal of (goodsized) pizza and drink for £5 was good value. Vegan pizzas were interesting and there was a nice variety; kimchi isn't my thing but I am sure others would love it. I had the mushroom and spinach one and it was great! Nice and cool inside despite being next to the pizza kitchen and it being very hot outside. Our server Josh and kitchen chef (also handily called Josh!) were friendly and welcoming and Josh had control of the tunes, playing some great classics from 60s/70s. Been before, not disappointed and will return very soon I'm sure!

We had heard from friends that the pizza here was amazing so being pizza lovers we had to drop in when we were passing the other week. We were really impressed with the pizza and the pub had a nice atmosphere. We were looking forward to visiting again until we got a £100 parking fine through the door the other day!! I seem to remember seeing a sign that said the car park was for customers only but since that's what we were, I didn't think to investigate further. It wasn't made obvious to us that we had to register our car to park there, none of the staff mentioned it and we didn't see any signs saying thats what we had to do. I have never experienced this in a pub car park so we were very surprised to be stung with a fine when we'd paid money to be there! It's a shame because we had such a nice time but would definitely think twice about coming back again after this!

Popped in for a quiet spot to do some work and was recommended a quieter corner of the pub. Lovely atmosphere with free wifi, I was well looked after, and will be back - hopefully without my laptop to enjoy the pub some more!

Very friendly greeting on arrival and throughout our time here. Great selection of beer and reasonably priced. Pizza is fantastic and a special is on offer monthly. Staff are attentive without being over bearing. Highly recommended and will definitely be returning

Been here a number of times and the pizza is always awesome. I went for the shredder and my partner in crime went for the Toni (like an American hot). I’ve had the shredder before and it’s yummy. It’s a good size pizza (not to massive that you can’t finish it) and not overloaded so you feel bloated. It’s just the right amount of food and a good mix of flavours. They have a pizza of the month so you can get some variation on the regular menu. They do other stuff here too. I’ve had the mac and cheese which I would also recommend. Service is quick and efficient. It can get busy though so sensible to reserve a table either in the eating area or in the bar. They had live music on yesterday while we ate and it was great. Good vibes and good music. Will definitely be going again.

Wonderful English pub with good food some lovely beers and good vibes and tunes

We went here for Mother’s Day and all mums were given a complimentary Prosecco. The gentleman taking my order recommended to have the chicken roast and honestly I’ve had many roast but this was the best by far. Great service, great food and great value for money!!

Buzzy pub , with an exciting atmosphere. Great choice of beverages and an enticing menu. We had wings and pizza, both cooked in the pizza oven. The chef took great pride in his work and the results were insanely tasty. Only popped in on a road trip but stayed for a cracking couple of hours. Highly recommended venue for food, drink and a good time.

It's a great pub, lots on and a great selection of beers. Food is awesome - especially the wood fired pizza, but more menu variety would make it a 5. It has a nice atmosphere, but somehow lacks something that makes it comfy! Again if it were a little more comfy, warm and inviting it would be a 5. .......but don't let any of that put you off, it's a great Pub.

Lovely meal... Pizza's were tasty and reasonably priced. The selection of beers was very good, with local breweries and good options for all tastes.

Incredibly frustrated to find that I've had a parking ticket from Old White Horse, Appreciate this isn't a rating on food or service, but to have a cowboy parking company to run your car park is unforgivable. Furthermore after contacting the pub, i was told it was nothing to do with you and I'd have to resolve this. I was a paying member of the pub that night and missed the sign that I had to register my car behind the bar? 99.9% Of pubs do not have that in place so naturally I didn't think twice, no member of staff raised or warned! This dispute is now taking me to court and not letting me appeal. BEWARE.

Great food and fantastic atmosphere. Good large tables. It was interesting watching the cooks prepare the pizzas and terrines in the large brick oven.

This is our favourite pub in baldock. The food, atmosphere and staff are all amazing. Ash does a great quiz every second Sunday which is not to be missed! Even though we never win, I wouldn’t miss it! If you’re thinking of visiting this amazing pub, stop thinking and book a table! You won’t be disappointed 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩

Brilliant atmosphere and cool interior

So we have been regulars for the Sunday roasts through January and managed another one last weekend. The chefs are always trying to make their roasts the best and these don't disappoint. We always have extra roast potatoes too as they are lovely. The gravy is sublime and the meal is well seasoned; so no need to add any salt or pepper! There is usually a choice of beef or chicken; with my favourite being the beef. This is sliced thinly and pink which is perfect for me. My husband will often have the chicken which is always juicy. The rest of the menu remains great and leaves us with difficult decisions to make. The 2 for 1 pizza deal on Mondays is great value so when we can we make the most of that as the quality of the pizzas... and the pots too are consistent. I would urge you if you are thinking of visiting to book ahead as news has got around and we see many people ending up disappointed if the tables are all booked out. I also want to say a thanks to the bar team too as they work really hard and do their best to keep everyone served promptly. I could go on but I am hoping you have the general idea that we love this place and we keep going because it makes for a really pleasant break for me as it means I don't have to cook!!!

My husband and I love this place, the location is perfect for us to walk to and the service and food is amazing! They have really good deals going on, and their pizzas are incredible. They also have plant based options which is so good as my husband is vegetarian (actually I end up eating the plant based as well because they’re just that yummy!) and good choices for beers and ciders. The staff are so sweet and always greet us with a smile and talk to us while we wait for our food. We’ve been here a number of times and always love coming back. I also really like that they switch out the menus and come up with new menu items every so often for a change of scene. Definitely will keep coming back here! :)
