The Mill in South Ribble

From the moment you walk in until the moment you leave, the staff are friendly, polite and attentive. The food is great - for breakfast we had breakfast buns and coffee - the food was piping hot, the coffees too and very tasty. There is a very pleasant atmosphere inside and the whole place is spotlessly clean. Can't complain at just under £20 for two large breakfast barmcakes and two coffees. We will return soon.

We visited as a family of five lads on way up north …. We all had the full English breakfast, all the ingredients were well cooked and warm , would definitely revisit

We went for the themed Seafood Evening. The theme changes each month. I let The Mill know that one in the party is tea total and they e mailed me a menu highlighting which dishes contained alcohol and which ones they could adapt accordingly. When we sat at our table a special menu for the person concerned had been printed off for them. Our food was delicious and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. Breakfast was very hot, quality ingredients and delicious. The service was impeccable; served with and staff very friendly.

We visit this establishment a number of times a year, and we've never had anything to complain about. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and the food is first class too.

Lovely restaurant for a nice lunch but so very busy on a Friday it’s recommended that you book in advance Extensive menu and we both enjoyed the Lancashire hot pot that was served with red cabbage and hunk of bread and butter.

Poor breakfast. Been here a lot hoping the breakfast would be better but unfortunately only seems to be worse. Not hot enough, sausage and bacon stuck together and undercooked, toast not toasted enough Just seems to want to get it on the plate as quick as possible and get it out. I won’t be back for a while which is very sad because it’s a lovely place and a good cause.

Absolutely fantastic breakfast and service. We would highly recommend paying a visit and will certainly be back again. Good to see there is an outdoor area where you can sit with the dogs 🐶

We arrived early for our 12.30pm table but were seated straight away with menus. Orders for food and drinks taken and arrived within 15 mins. Food quite tasty and no complaints. Husband had the special spiced fish cake balls with curried yogurt dip and I had hot roast beef sandwich with mustard mayo and onion chutney. The cafe was very very busy for a Wednesday lunch, good job we booked!

I have been several times to The Mill at St Catherine’s and yesterday was a treat paid for by one of my two daughters who were with me. They wouldn’t allow me to complain or I would have done so yesterday. I had roast potatoes unable to cut and unable to chew, roast beef which was tough and again almost impossible to cut and unable to chew. The veg was edible but everything was barely warm. The whole meal was of a very low standard and very disappointing. Service was slow but the waitress pleasant.

Found this little gem today whilst out and about. What a find! Fabulous cafe with a wide range menu and reasonably priced. Lovely staff and a gorgeous setting. Next to a great little charity shop too - what could be better, lunch and grab a bargain! A return is on the cards - soon!

Visited The Mill @ St Catherines Hospice again today. Great choice of food, attentive staff & a lovely friendly environment. Fab place for a catch up with friends. Afternoon Teas are delicious too (although we had breakfast today)

Visited with friends for Thursday brunch. The breakfast was delicious and all reasonably priced. Staff were ever so friendly and always checked in on us to ensure we had a drink and satisfied. Will most certainly visit again :-)

We were lucky enough to be invited to a Golden Wedding celebration at The Mill We had a 3 course meal each course excellent lovely staff and a great atmosphere whilst knowing that The Mill is part of St Catherine’s Hospice and all the profits go towards the running costs Keep up the good work

Had a good lunch out with a friend, her order was wrong but staff were apologetic. Good service by mainly volunteers, good choice of food and quality ingredients. But… the venue is advertising a specialist French Night for tomorrow and the menu includes Foie Gras - as this can’t even be made in the UK because of the severe cruelty involved in making it I was shocked and horrified to see it on the menu. The main purpose of the business as a whole is to alleviate suffering so how is putting something the is produced by awful suffering allowed on the menu - there is a complete disconnect between the business ethos and the menu and this needs rectifying.

My first time at Mill, they apologised for the wait for food, which we didn't really notice. However we were offered free cakes to take home. The meals were fantastic, it's was a lovely place to have lunch and the staff were wonderful. I will return

Our party of 20 ate with you for Christmas lunch on 13.12.2022. Service was attentive, professional and extremely kind as several of our party had additional needs. The staff went above and beyond to meet the needs of our party and they are truly deserving of praise. The food was super on what was a very very busy service day. Thank you so so much.

Nipped in with my other half on the hop for a breakfast, didn’t research or plan ahead. It was busy, but they found us room immediately even though most had booked. Tye attention from the staff was first class, all absolutely lovely people and couldn’t do enough for us. Coffee, I know, it’s a small thing, but great quality, and a great start. My partner asked if the bacon on his breakfast was pink or we’ll done, she ask him how he liked it, he said “as long as it’s not really pink I’ll be happy”, not knowing she put this in as a request. The food was stunning… I don’t eat bacon generally, but even that was so nice I couldn’t say no (much to my partners dismay… he usually gets it) We learned from the screens around the restaurant that they do all sorts of events, meals, nights, quiz night… so we will be back, not just for breakfast. It was a very very nice experience all round. Well done team

Had lunch today. It was busy. The service throughout the meal was friendly quick and courteous. The food was delicious and sensibly priced. All profits to the Hospice. Nice gift shop on site. Very enjoyable experience. The desserts are a real treat.

I have just been for Afternoon Tea at the recently reopened and newly refurbished The Mill at St. Catherine's. Staff invited us to sanitise our hands before showing us to our table and then explaining their COVID guidelines. Staff wore face masks and were friendly, efficient and welcoming as ever. Food was brought to our table promptly and was fresh and delicious. The price per head at £15 has not increased since pre lockdown and as all profits go towards supporting the work of the Hospice, we all agreed that this was a reasonable cost for such a pleasant experience! Thank you Nicola and team!

Sunday lunch x 4 people at The Mill. The Mill was super busy and I am so glad that we booked a table. The food was beaut as was the service. Not the cheapest but the cafe supports the on site hospice with all profits going into the hospice service and ditto all the tips given to the staff.Wonderful home cooked food and clearly very popular with local people.Well worth a visit and the standard of service is fantastic :)

We call in here when we are in the area with family. The Mill has plenty of parking and good disabled access. The staff are lovely, helpful and welcoming every time we visit. The food is always good although it's always very busy especially at weekends and in summer as the outside terrace is a great sunny spot. We particularly enjoyed the speciality evenings they have every month. Pleased to see there is going to be an extension to the cafe and wish them every success in the future as it's for such a good cause.

We have enjoyed a few meals here this year, both breakfasts & lunches. Really nice food, presented nicely & the staff are all very pleasant & helpful. The menu has a great choice from hot & cold foods & there is always a specials menu which is nice for a change. Booking recommended as it’s always busy!

Booked a week in advance only to find the entrance road closed off due to a Christmas event. No access, no parking, no disabled access. The fact they had the booking for a week yet still didn’t think it was appropriate to contact confirmed reservations to inform them of the lack of access just proves that these cowboys don’t actually know what they’re doing. Completely ruined a birthday breakfast. The staff talk to you like it’s your fault. Wouldn’t recommend and definitely would not be returning regardless of the good cause they support.

I called at the Mill to get a sandwich to take to work after visiting at St Catherine's. I did think the price would be less bearing in mind I wasn't eating in - but no, £7.50 for a take away chicken sandwich. It was delicious but very pricey.

We had a wonderful evening. The seafood menu was what tempted us to book and we weren’t disappointed. The food exceeded our expectations, it was all beautifully presented and tasted sublime. The staff were friendly and professional , but a special mention goes to the Food Manager who made our night, he didn’t rush us and went that extra mile to ensure we were happy. The atmosphere in the restaurant was relaxed and just perfect. We have already been recommending to our family and friends and will definitely be booking again.

First time at The Mill and it was a seafood themed night. The service from the mostly first time voulenteers was spot on and they did a great job. The food was spectacular, perfectly cooked fishes dishes all round with wonderful ingredients. Will certainly be visiting The Mill again very soon.

We called in as we were walking past. It was a beautiful day so we sat outside. We only wanted a couple of cappuccinos so I went inside to order, I then saw the cakes which looked heavenly. I chose a couple of sticky toffee caramel slices which looked excellent.

Just called on the way past. Excellent full English breakfast. Service extremely quick and friendly. Quite busy on a Sunday morning and the managed to squeeze us in but I recommend booking for certainty. Overall excellent and will definitely be back

This place just feels like a place that you want to spend time. Whether you are a young professional doing work- like me or a retired group of friends having afternoon tea, you feel welcomed and looked after.

Would not recommend it is over priced and not what is advertised on the menu. Since when was a ploughman's predominantly meat? not in any ploughman's i have ever eaten in the last sixty years. The charge for this pretence is exorbitant to say the least £10.95 and for one containing miniscule cheese £9.95 buy this at a pub would cost in the region of £5.50 to £6.00 so not exactly value for money so if you don't want ripping off then don't eat the mill find a pub nearby.

I went to the mill on Monday morning 11ish. Two or three tables occupied. Was told maybe could fit us in. We ordered two coffees and two breakfast. They came wish I had photo evidence. Poor quality poor presentation and poorly cooked .greasy . The toast was plonked on top of the food. No one asked how our meal was which speaks volumes to me. This is a second disappointed visit. Won’t be a third. Very expensive too.

This restaurant is next to and supports a Hospice. We had lunch which was lovely . There was also an extensive Breakfast Menu and beautiful home made cakes. The staff were very polite and service really good. Larger groups can be accommodated. It is accessible for the less able . There are some nice walks in the Hospice Grounds.

If you want the best full English breakfast in Preston or dare I say Lancashire, do not hesitate to go here. Booking essential at the weekend but if you haven't tried this place, do, you wont be disappointed.

I have been to the Mill several times and it just has a really nice atmosphere. The breakfast is a good size and lots of local produce. Also don’t forget to book and the cakes are beautiful.

Recently booked their upstairs 'James de Lostock' room for our sons 6th Birthday party and it was fantastic!

The food is second to none, steak ciabatta was wonderful, the sandwiches and soup was wonderful the staff are very attentive especially John who looked after us and was very professional in his work thank you for a very good birthday treat

The Service and Food are both first class. Visited on Friday 18th January for lunch and as soon as we walked in the staff were so friendly and attentive. We were seated quickly and our food were served as fast. We will be recommending it to all our friends and family. Excellent!!

Took an hour from arriving to food being brought out. Hot pot stone cold though the dish it was in was red hot,coffee cold. Cake stale butter for bread rancid.Service terrible. 3rd time we have tried this place to give it a fair trial,never again.

Called I here for something to eat and a drink. We got there at 11.30 am and were told breakfast had finished and lunch didn’t start till 12 so we could not have anything to eat till then. Obviously don’t do a smooth change over like most restaurants or cafes we’ve visited. Obviously we weren’t going to hang about for 30 mins. Very strange

First visit today and wow it was fabulous. Only a light lunch but was delicious and the place is so clean, warm, bright and welcoming. The staff are fantastic too and have you seen the cakes...well next time they are a must. Will definitely be back in the New Year regularly.

Booked for a friend's birthday treat. The café was packed when we arrived and the only table free was the one we had reserved. After a few minutes we were asked whether we would like our drinks (tea) with our food. Wanting it now, the waitress said it would be brought. A short while later our food arrived: a cake stand containing sandwiches comprising two slices each of crustless bread each with less than generous filings, an espresso cup of unidentifiable soup, a cracker with pate and three small cakes. It was £30!!! The tea eventually arrived some time later. Yes the food was lovely but poor value for money. The place was heaving and clearly understaffed although the staff were clearly working really hard. We tried to get more drinks when we had finished but a lack of staff meant that we couldn't find anyone to ask. We paid and left. The cakes in the fridge looked delicious so perhaps we will drop in at a less busy time to sample them and coffee.

Food is always excellent and varied, the cakes are to die for too. The staff are efficient and friendly and the bonus is the fact that all profits go to the wonderful St Catherine’s Hospice.

Had heard about The Mill from a neighbour and happened to be passing so thought we would see what the place was like. It is set in the grounds of St Catherine's Hospice with good parking and nice setting. The place is clean and homely. We had coffee and cake, the coffee is good and the cakes excellent. They have a varied if small food menu and a good selection of cakes. All thel profits go to the hospice so worth going to support a worthy cause. People nearby were having an afternoon tea and it looked delicious. The only issue is that some of the tables overlook the kitchen and food storage areas, this may or may not be a problem. Will definitely make a journey back.

We have been eating at The Mill regularly since it opened. The food is excellent and the cakes are scrumptious.....The Mill just seems to have lost it's way with regard customer service as it has become more commercialised . The ethos of The Mill when it opened was a warm welcoming safe comforting place for locals, hospice visitors, those wanting just a little bit of company and visitors from further afield. We haven't visited since May as my husband has been very poorly and what a difference the last 6 months has made, the ethos seems to have left the building. Such a shame as the food is super good.

I can’t praise the Mill highly enough for the category of eatery this belongs to. However, make no mistake that it is special due to supporting St Catherine’s Hospice.
