The Mile Castle in Newcastle upon Tyne

We have just left the Mile Castle Hotel ..it was such a lovely place ..comfortable rooms fab bathroom and wonderful helpful reception ..we were sad to leave..definitely 100% recommend..loved the carpet .in the public areas 😀..however we wernt that impressed with the pub ..its dark and needs more lighting the air con was ott and we were frozen the breakfast choices were limited and not very hot when it arrived...this I's our 232 weatherspoons on our weatherspoons journey and were disappointed given the amount spent on it .

Ordered Black pudding and for half an hour no sign of it not until i asked at the bar about it they brought it out and it was stone cold and like a solid brick, i dont understand how it took over half an hour for a single slice of black pudding to be brought to the table yet this is disappointing.

First time been in for ages vastly improved

Sprained my ankle 3 days ago. One of your security members grabbed me and told me to leave “because I was struggling to stand” implying I was drunk. I showed him my drink which was a 0% lager (I don’t drink alcohol) He tried to grab my hoody to drag me out. Luckily my friends started to record him and he left. I didn’t catch his name but he was an African gentleman. We won’t be back.

Stayed here for the first time and have to say was pleasantly surprised how nice it was. Very good location close to train station and walking distance to everything else. Room was very clean and bed comfortable even get free water and hot chocolate in room plus free tea and coffee in the pub next door( just need to show your key card). Staff very helpful Would definitely stay there again.

Never experienced a place as busy or as noisy as in here

Great spoons, always busy but still manage to get the drinks and food out .. yes the food is standard spoons food but it’s great value and the price of the drinks are unbeatable

A fairly typical city centre Spoons. Paulicarus noted a lot of the beer festival ales were on, with a 50p CAMRA discount. The bar has a mirror image upstairs and thus a lot larger than first impressions. Getting ready for Newcastle v Scousers on Sunday with black n white balloons. Good beer selection and usual food offerings. A Spoons Hotel as well.

Quick service. Always busy, tables are a little closer together but atmosphere is good

First time customer to this 'Spoons' and I feel Tim Martin (Big boss) has no worries here, arrived approx 13.00 (had about 1 1/2 hours before train), service was fast and efficient, I had 3 pints of abbot which was good, taste consistent, my wife 3 pints of lime and soda each time asked no ice, came with no ice once. Pub really clean, staff going round cleaning tables regularly. The toilets, well these are probably the best, smartest, 'Spoons' toilets - both my wife and I were impressed with those; spotlessly clean, great design / decor. Next time in Newcastle near to the station will definitely return 🍻👏🏻👏🏻

Great new Hotel by Whetherspoons we where is the basement and even though you didn't have real windows to look out the room was fabulous.

Deben ser las peores cucharas que he visitado. Las mesas estaban sucias cuando llegamos. Solo había un miembro del personal que servía detrás de la barra por lo que el servicio era muy lento. La comida en sí era terrible, yo tenía pollo que era tan seco como un hueso y mi amigo filete que también estaba seco. Nos gusta ir a las cucharas ya que normalmente sabes lo que estás recibiendo, esto no cumplió con su estándar normal en absoluto. Los baños estaban limpios pero muy malolientes. No volveré a comer aquí.

We wanted to get some hot chocolate. As you are all aware you have to get it by yourself. And as always the machine was broken. We waited for about 7 min. After someone fixed it we wanted to get a refill but the machine was broken again. We waited again but they shouted at us and said that we can’t get any refills anymore. The staff was really rude and I don’t recommend coming here.

Ordered a hot chocolate cup but the machine went out of order, no compensation was given. The service is really bad. Staff not very mindful and inconsiderate.

Typical Wetherspoons, did not notice much difference after long closure.

A great place to eat or drink or both. Lots of tables on each floor windows over looking the city. Handy to central train station and city centre. Great on a Friday night .

Prices are reasonable. Music was so loud. Food is great. We had a margarita and a cheesy fries which were delicious. Had difficulties finding chairs and a spot to settle down. It was that much crowded and busy.

Nos dirigimos al castillo de la Milla para desayunar. Habíamos estado en la fila de la quilla a principios de semana y el castillo de la milla es como comer en un restaurante de 5 * en comparación con ese lugar. Aun así, es un 'Cucharas y sirviendo regulación positiva 'Cucharas larva. Sin emociones, bocado barato con un café en un entorno bastante cómodo. El castillo de la Milla no es diferente. Dire service in the bar. 20 minute waits to get served at the bar, 25 when ordering through the app. Staff either need to be trained better, or they simply need to be faster.

Pasé a tomar cervezas aquí un jueves por la noche muy ocupado. Gran ambiente todo el mundo realmente se divirtió. Super pub con mucho espacio, equipo amable y buena ubicación.

Huge pub, three floors, loads of tables. Could sometimes do with a few more bar staff. Beer is cheap. Food is ok and comes to your table pretty quickly.

He estado un par de veces últimamente pero no realmente inspirado por este lugar - corto cambió primero - vez, segunda vez algún ignorante tonto barbudo en un anorak amarillo, vapeando en el paso delantero, tosió directamente en mi cara. Salud amigo por el dolor de garganta resultante. La cerveza está bien, pero tiene el ambiente de una sala de espera en una estación de autobuses.

I had a lovely breakfast and a few coffees, great location just around the corner from Newcastle Central station.

Después de hablar de una renovación de varios millones de libras, entré y pensé “wow!!!”. Ese “wow” fue un shock que no parecía diferente pero que logró ser un imán para los no lavados. Creo que ahora tienen algunas habitaciones, así que espero que ahí haya ido su dinero. Precio de Wetherspoons bueno habitual pero no volver.

Wetherspoon offers surprisingly delicious food and drink for its price point. The chicken and pasta dishes are flavorful and satisfying, while the mango and beer selections are refreshing and well-chosen.

Esperábamos más después de un cierre tan largo para la modernización. La comida estaba bien, tanto como antes (excepto que mi crumble de manzana tenía poca vida cualquier crumble era una papilla de manzana) pero el problema principal era que está tan apretado. Han apretado en tantas mesas como han podido, tan cerca que se ha dado poca privacidad a pesar del ruido, y cuando la gente ha pasado, han tirado cosas de la mesa con bolsas o incluso vagos. Acabo de rescatar nuestra botella de vino. No fue una experiencia cómoda o relajante.

Sure is a spoons alright. Kinda boring tho. Most are of interesting designs, this one is a cube with 3 floors. Not tastefully done at all. Cheap prices thanks to be being a mega spoons tho. Haven't stayed in the hotel, I presume it's fine. Right opposite central station though, so really handy for a few pints

Didn't stay here, popped in for some food. Apart from my sausage and toast being just warm - which I was told by a local, this is the normal heat of food here - it was nice. Service was good. Staff were friendly.

Great spoons with all the usual you would expect from them, the new festive menu is very nice and would recommend the festive pizza! Good service and good atmosphere for a decent price

id avoid this one again, right next too a train station so all 3 floors were packed with people all with suitcases waiting for the trains, literally every floor was packed only found a table when someone moved, then a 40 minute wait for food, and they got the drinks order wrong

Hotel opens later this month (November 2024). Pub was fairly busy but the service was friendly and prompt. Location is great if you are arriving by train and then you have good access to the city.

i have elhers danlos syndrome and postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, when i was outside in the smoking area i saw a plastic chair and sat on it right by they were stacked but the bouncers came over and took it away from me even tho i explained my disability and explained i really needed an outdoor seating (this was way before the outdoor seating needed to be put away 9pm?) but all 4 bouncers weren’t happy with my disability then did not let me back in even though they saw me leave with my mates and let my mates by in and saw my valid driving license, they eventually let me back in but im disappointed in the lack of disability help and the fact they singled me out when trying to re enter.

Zombie bar staff need to focus on serving customers, I guess you can’t get the staff these days

A very typical Wetherspoons pub with all the usual cheap beers and ales. The food was normal Wetherspoons fare which was fine for the drinking session. The pub building was huge and spread over 3 floors with a very good service. Handily near the train station.

Spent the afternoon here whilst staying in Newcastle. Enjoyed several drinks and a nice fish and chips.

Just went for food before train, nothing interesting tbh.. handy location to train station and lower cost than Scottish spoons 😡

Situated at the corner of Grainger Street and Westgate Road like many of Wetherspoons buildings, it is a conversion of a fine Romano-Grecian style building of impressive stature. If travelling by Metro get out at Westgate Road exit. The Mile Castle is opposite to the historic St John's church and within walking distance of many places of historic interest including St. Nicholas Cathedral where the famous John Knox once preached & Haidrian's Wall (which may be restored once us Scots get Independence!). There are three levels to the Mile Castle building and the stairway can be awkward for those of us with mobility problems as the lift facility is to the rear of each floor. I am not sure if there is a way in to the right side of the building further up Grainger Street. The place provided the usual food and drink throughout the day and it can be very lively at weekends. Wouldn't recommend wheelchair travellers to the place at weekends or evenings whenever there is a game on in Toon. The place appears to be well run with adequate staff and good security but I have known the odd cold meal being delivered so don't be afraid to request a warm meal if yours is nor warm enough - staff may givE the odd grunt under their breath but will willingly resolve your difficulty. On parking you will have the normal problems of city centre parking so better get studying your city Google maps before setting off. As for wheelchair users would advise same with the added warning that this particular part of the Toon can be very frantic at certain times of the day so bear that in mind. A further warning for those using the third floor, be prepared to be interrupted after 1900 hrs on any night if the place has a band or some event on. It is a good venue to meet friends and has enough cosy places to have private conversations so enjoy your visit.

Much quieter than the neighboring pubs on match days

Went to grab some food and drinks before attending a concert in the area. Staff were really friendly and helpful until one with a badge that said 'Team Leader' came over to deliver some drinks and demanded to one of our party "move your phone", no please or thank you or even eye contact. The need for the phone to be moved was due to the fact that none of the dinner dishes or glasses had been cleared so the table was quite full, although there was still plenty space. When one of our party, who works in the service industry, tried to help out with drinks he was yelled at "don't touch it". At no point did the team leader make eye contact or show any type of customer service and seemed unable be anything other than aggressive, which seems like a poor example to be setting for other staff members. A poor end to an otherwise as expected visit to a Weatherspoons. Can honestly say I have never encountered rude or disrespectful staff at the other venues I've visited

When a member of our party, who works in the service industry, tried to assist with the drinks, they were sharply told, “don’t touch it.” The Team Leader never made eye contact or demonstrated any semblance of customer service, coming across as aggressive and setting a poor example for the rest of the staff. It was an unfortunate end to an otherwise decent visit to Wetherspoons. I’ve never encountered such rude or disrespectful staff at other locations.

The costumer service was nightmare. Impolite security, they ruined our family night, we were on top floor next to the dj’s stage, he came to us and had bad behaviours with family and said don’t pass from here I had an argument with him that we just standing here with family then he talked to security and they kicked us out why????

We love it here more so since it's been renovated the staff and always friendly the food is great. On a Friday and Saturday night there's bad DJ on and it bouncing the atmosphere is amazing so I'd definitely recommend people to come here

It's a Spoons, you get what you pay for

One of my favourite pubs in Newcastle, which says a lot! Why? Good city centre location opposite St Johns historic church. About five minutes from Newcastle train station. The Mile Castle is an impressive building with its history explained by information given on walls. There are three bars on three levels that all have a different atmosphere. Food is standard Wetherspoon fare so good value for money. Music on the third floor bar on Friday and Saturday. The bar staff are always willing and helpful.

Good prices and is located very short walk from the train station. Good to kill a few hours.

Nipped in here before a hospital visit, clean and inviting pub, fast service, great food.

Excellent place to meet up, busy but not rowdy, bar staff were spot on and last and definitely most important prices were unbelievably low which is good for everyone, cheers guys 👊
