Gunner Tavern in Newcastle upon Tyne

A very up to date pub which has a bit of quality about it. Has two entry/exits, one from Pink Lane with stairs and the other at Neville Street just around the corner across from the western end of Newcastle Central Station. The Neville St entry is recommended for those with mobility difficulties and wheelchair users.the place is very popular with those with a panchant for craft beers and it is also part of the 'cocktail set'! The decor of the place has style about it but I to me I felt it had the feel of a fancy foyer in a company reception area, holding a party for special visitors! Be that as it may, the ambiance was favourable and the staff very knowledgeable about their business. My own pity was that whilst the bar stock had an impressive array of drinks available, I found it surprising that their choice of whisky was mainly run-of-the-mill bourbon with a lone middling Johnny Walker Black Label representing Scotland - not even a half decent single malt such as an Ardbeg or Bladnoch to comfort me. Felt that a place with class should at least have a decent choice of single malts! Be that as it may, it is a very good place, appears popular and would be nice to have a meal there as the menu looks enticing.

Called on Saturday night. Don’t want to be a bore, but the volume of the Rock music was unbearable. The place was very quiet, especially for a Saturday night. There is no wonder. I have been here many times, never known it this loud. Didn’t stay long went next door to The Town Wall. I know you want to appeal to a wide range of punters, but it certainly didn’t work on Saturday.

Always happy after a stroll through Newcastle, it shortens the waiting time for the bus. Clean toilets and self-service, everything fits.

Wine was cold and well served. Music on Friday night was great. Work on your mixing though. From an ex DJ to another.

I really love the Gunners Tavern, super chill atmosphere, mellow vibes, excellent music, nice selection of beverages and food. In addition we hold our bookclub here once a month, it's a perfect location and the staff are super accommodating, thank you Gunners.

Normally love this bar but on Saturday I was disappointed with the attitude of one of the staff who was extremely unfriendly and dismissive. The young lady basically had no manners and was extremely rude and curt, I would advise some training in actually smiling when serving!

Great experience well worth a visit

Nice wood featured pub. Some beers on tap, some hand pull cask and some others. Kitchen shut currently and had the cheeseboard which had 2 blue cheeses, 1 cheddar, no apples as in menu, crackers were dull. Food looks normally good in photos.

Great craic and service from the fella working on Monday when we popped in for a few post work pints (and maybe a couple of shots!)

I like this pub now it's undergone a face-lift, prices are reasonable and has a decent outdoor area. But, it's not accessible, the toilets are downstairs and unbelievably there is no accessible loo on the ground floor.

Appalling food and service - coming to Newcastle for 10 years and unquestionable the worst food and service we had every had - stoggy food poorly presented - falt and stale beer and complete lack of interest from staff - I could write multiple colums but like is too short- do not visit this place 0/1

Two visits on the same night. And two totally different experiences. First visit was lovely. The barman who served us was very pleasant. The second visit we were ignored by the girls serving. We left without a drink.

Not a good experience! Under staffed and poor food. The poor girl serving had to endure moaning customers about long service times and poor food quality and it wasn’t her fault being left to serve the bar, dish out food, clean tables and make coffees. The quality of the fish and chips were exceptionally bad. Maybe we were unlucky going on a Wednesday lunchtime but not going back for lunch again

Great central location, lovely decor and never too busy. Would recommend the Bloody Mary it was bloody lovely

Great place for a drink before heading to the arena

Dead handy right outside central station. Decent range of drafts including weirdy local brews and Camden. Some decent chairs and tables outside but wobbly so watch your pint. Was quiet when went and seemed a bit lifeless. Got one of those Guinness with a piccy on top

Staying in Newcastle last week had a pint of Guinness here the first time I had a printed message added after it had been poured (very noval) Only down side I was with my 84yr old mate and NO accessible toilets so had to take him down dimly lit stairs 🙁

Lovely place, I usually come here once a week or once every two weeks. Food is quickly made and the service is good. Not that busy during the week, it's a great place for food and drinks too.

Busy City center boozer, leaning to the more affulant people but still fairly priced. Was busy had a good atmosphere didn't wait too long to get a pint staff were friendly. For sure worth popping in .

Good location opposite the train station and we had a couple of drinks with family and friends.

My husband and I shared nachos and had a couple of pints. Met the most amazing staff and the owner too who was very friendly and generous. The bartender, Ben was kind and gave great service to us. You have to try the Palomas. The most delicious tequila drink that I’ve ever had. It’s refreshing goes down way too and before you know it you’re on your fourth. Thank you Russ and Ben for a memorable anniversary, and the best time.

No gluten free opts just chips. Then told my colleague after that the sandwich she wanted that advertised chips would only come with roast potatoes! Bar staff clueless had to go back to chef. Chef had a computer says no attifude. There was a shop opposite they could have got gluten free bread from but didn’t. Went to the toilet and there was a slug climbing up the wall. Girl there was pleasant. But we had to ask for a refund and went next door to the town wall. Who were much more accommodating and friendly.

Picked this pub due to name being same our old Edinburgh pub however very tidy pub great staff and very clean right opposite the train station

A nice pub with good beers, and a nice atmosphere. However Friday night's DJ was not great.

As the title suggests. Clearly £5 @ pint is not enough to provide basic conveniences. Notified the bar staff that there was no toilet roll in either cubicle of the gents. 30 mins later nothing done (literally).

Due to location, this is a good meeting point for people arriving by train. Top end prices for beers.

An overpriced wetherspoons food was edible, but not that great service was adequate and the toilets are on the lower level with no disabled ones on the main level, not a place i would go on a regular basis.

Meal was fantastic, lovely atmosphere.

Stopped in for one drink on the way back to the hotel at the end of the evening.

Great friendley pub opposite central station. Called in twice as the Darlo beat South Shields. Would recommend 👌

Excellent bar Always good fast friendly service even on busy match days. Also family friendly up until around 7pm.

Didn't have food but everything else was good

Place was nice enough and drinks not too unreasonably priced, however there are faults with the way they deal with prebooked tabs. We were requested to pay a deposit per person which we were told would be given back to us in a tab on the evening, which was completely fine. Throughout the evening however multiple staff members were confused, telling us that there was nothing left on our tabs to then be told by a different staff member that really we did actually have some remaining, as expected. At the end we were told that as we had split the tabs as none of the four of us wanted to spend £100 as an individual, we could not then combine our remaining tabs so have lost out on some of the money as our remaining money didn't add up to the price of a drink. A shame as such a lovely bar and not a big complaint, just something that may be worth improving for future guests.

Good bar for drinks, good quick service!

The bars okay, quite laid back, not bouncing but a nice place if you want a drink and a chat without having loud music. Atmosphere is good, a huge contrast to how it used to be when it was Gotham, but a lot cleaner. I wasn't impressed with the toilets though, no hand soap and noticed the toilets didn't have toilet roll anywhere, this was on a quiet night of the week.

Like the Tardis, deceptively big inside.

Some good beers and a solid selection of other draft, bottles and cans. Fairly extensive amount of spirits available, too.

Bad experience, had a drink while waiting for bus, but left by accident a £30 flash light torch on the bar, when I empting my pockets at the main bar while looking for my bus pass when leaving the bar, so called them, took 15 attempts to get threw because nobody picks up the phone, but got through Tuesday 05/12/2023 at 20:30 and spoke to a lad who said, which was advice this was the manager, Louie or who ever was working that night, a lad who answered the phone, who said YES someone has handed it in, he said it was a nice looking flash light torch too, so knew it was that one, and went YES, luck, someone descent handed it in, and said will come next day to pick up, next day 06/12/2023 went the morning spoke with morning staff who said couldn't find a thing or nothing was mentioned about this from night before, and they would be in contact later, called 20 times at 5pm noboby was pickinv up, so came into pub 6pm, and spoke with night manager, Barry, who was useless, and clueless, should have know because he was standing at the end of the bar on his mobile phone also drinking on the job, with a nice pint, who was abrasive, couldn't care less, so asked him... WELL can you not ring the previous night manager, or text the manager Louie where he's put my lost property, who went off in a strop saying he's not answering, so said, OK will call back later, give you some time, and if you get an answer, but he said you're better off coming back on the weekend when manager Louie is working again... I went home from then on, but called again pub back 11pm, if he had a response from Louie, but a chef answered the pub phone, with a attitude, who is aware of the situation with lost flash light tourch, it's saying nothing they can do, or will do, and will have to wait until manager, Louie comes back from his holidays (chef must have had a bad night) nothing else I can say, or do about it was his words, as he put it... Bad experience all around and not very professional and poor communication with management, ### advice BE CAREFUL NOT TO FORGET YOUR STUFF### Patrions maybe descent to hand in lost property, but staff or manager either keep or lose your property, and give you attitude in the process. Enjoy your pint Barry. Didn't know you can drink on the job while working as a manager in a pub, responsible for staff and patrions.

Good bar just across from Newcastle station reasonable prices.

Halloween party has been brilliant. Very well organised and the kids loved it . Lots of party games, food good, judge/ dj a bit harsh as I couldn’t be that harsh with that many kids ha but overall great value for money

Great food, service and atmosphere, came here for a works night out to celebrate a completed contract.

Nice deco, as far as I would say, quite pricey and bar staff were more interested in their phones. The music wasn't very good what's surprising as lady grey I think is part of the same chain and that's much better. Ordered a Marlborough wine, and it definitely didn't taste like a Marlborough wine. It was very quiet, too, with only around 6 people in, so that didn't add to the atmosphere.

Came here on the recommendation of a friend who used to live here. Not disappointed! £4.80 for a cask ale pint is definitely the kind of thing I’m looking for: much more expensive pints to be found elsewhere in Newcastle. Was relatively quiet on a Tuesday evening, not too busy and not dead. Server was helpful and friendly!

Had a nice pint. Great place to head before an arena gig

I went in for a pint whilst waiting for a train with a few friends, we were all served promtly and were able to get a nice comfortable seat so I couldn't complain. I would definitely grab a pint from here again.

Had a couple of Guinness. Great.

Went in for a quick light lunch and a beer. Beer was fine. Ordered a shawarma (Chicken). this took 45 minutes to make and i was the only customer having food. This can only be described as a red cabbage wrap with 'hard to find chicken' - chips were nice but not many of them. Will not eat there again, you wait far too long for below average food. Staff were fine, young lady behind the bar was very embarrassed. Drink - don't eat.

Absolutely shocking experience from start to finish. The bar staff had as much urgency as a sloth. Made an order for two sausage muffins; after taking 45mins to make something that could have been done in 10 minutes by a child, the wrong order arrived completely undercooked and inedible. Would not recommend.

A good bar that is ideal for access to the central station. The feeling in the place is much more relaxed than when it was Gotham town bar.

I really like Gunner Tavern, the food is nice and they have a great selection of beers. The place gets quite busy but there is ample seating and the vibe is really nice. It’s directly opposite the train station which makes it the perfect first stop or last stop before the train station. They also do Sunday dinners here.

Light and airy due to the big windows, cracking service, good choice of beers, I settled for the Jarl. Menu looked good but only here for the beer. Definitely worth another visit soon.

Went for food. Disappointing. Loads of the menu was off, chips that came with the sandwich looked like they'd been under a heat lamp for a couple of hours. Nice onion rings.

The Gunner Tavern formerly Gotham City, is a great pub just outside the heart of Newcastle opposite the central station. The staff make this a great visit and the food is excellent, admittedly I shouldn't be eating burgers every single day but their breakfast burger got and kept me going at 1 in the afternoon followed by a lock burger, one of their own burgers which are all deliciously filling, around 7pm. I'm there again this weekend and will be seeing what else is on the menu!

Had Sunday lunch here, pork roast dish were very tasty, as was the Chicken Wrap. Very friendly and helpful staff.

Nice place but my Sunday dinner was cold and you hardly get any gravy and not much food wouldn't go back 😕

Really good conversion of the old Gotham Town bar. Staff very friendly. Food is good, the schwarma boards are great, massive portions. Shame they only do breakfast at weekends .
