The Midland Railway in Leicester

Lovely pub with great friendly staff, food was gorgeous, would recommend fishfinger sandwiche and chipshop platter

First time having lunch there. Excellent meal, good value for money, friendly staff. One small criticism, disabled access not very good.

Today, myself and 7 family members took my 91 year old Grandma out for lunch. She has recently been admitted to a care home and this was the first time she has been well enough to leave the home. After the kitchen was closed in the pub that was within wheel chair pushing distance of the care home, we called ahead to the MIdland Railway and were advised their kitchen was open serving food. We then drove my grandma there, which is difficult for her due to restricted mobility and some anxiety about going out after being in hospital for months. When were arrived 5 mins after our phone call, bar staff told us that the kitchen could not serve a table of 9. This was 12pm and there was only one occupied table of people and none of the tables appeared to be reserved. We explained the situation with my grandma, that we could sit on separate tables and we wouldn’t mind when the food came out. The bar staff said it wasn’t up to them the kitchen were refusing. The pub also did not have ramp access and staff were not forthcoming with help. I am not sure if our experience relates to disability discrimination or just poor business practices. Either way anyone with a financial interested should be concerned. To avoid another uncomfortable car journey we call the nearest other pub, the Fox and Hounds, Syston. They went out their way to accommodate us and any accessibility issues. The food was amazing and reasonable priced. If you are looking for an establishment that will make you feel welcome and also complies with equality legislation I would suggest going to the Fox and Hounds.

My husband and I had a fantastic meal yesterday, the food was delicious, the staff are friendly, there is a good selection of drinks, the pub has recently been refurbished and is very cosy and there are many special offers on the menu with plenty to choose from. Thank to the staff for an enjoyable evening

Took my Mum yesterday for Mother's Day, had a fabulous 3 course meal, nice food plenty of it & very well priced. Couldn't fault it nor the service. And on a side note mum said 'it was the nicest salmon she'd had", 👌

We visited here for a mid week dinner and whilst it’s relatively cheap meals, I have to say the food was really good. I had the fish and chips which were as expected and really well cooked. Everyone else in the party had meals as expected and would certainly return if out for a quick meal in Syston.

Just had a lovely home cooked Sunday lunch. Haven't been here for many years but thought we will give it a go .We weren't disappointed Roast Beef and Pork lovely, plenty of meat and choice of vegetables. Beautiful tasty gravy . Very friendly and attentive staff will definitely be back .And a very very reasonable price 👍

Went last night to see an Ed sheeran tribute act. We waited and waited and he didn't show up. We understand that these things happen but it was handled so bad. No one came to say anything or apologise. The staff looked as confused as us and the so called "manger" was going round looking like he just got out of bed. Not a good look for anew place. This was our first visit. Won't be returning. Can't believe we took time off work for that!

We had our Christmas dinner at the Midland Hotel Dec22. The food was amazing, the atmosphere was lovely and an all round great experience. Have eaten here lots of time and the food is fab especially the sunday lunch.

I can never knock how friendly and welcoming the staff at the Midland Railway have been, but the refurb has took the place to another level and the hard work has been rewarded. Sunday dinner great value for money, a place for a family to go out to or a cheeky pint to watch the football with friends

Brand new menu that is very competitive, a separate lovely dining area, brand new furniture throughout and new flooring. Well worth a visit.

Having received some good feedback about this establishment and being in the area I thought I would call in. My first impression was a clean inviting atmosphere and welcoming staff. As it was Sunday I ordered the roast pork with all the trimmings. This was served in good time and cooked to my satisfaction. The meal was very reasonably priced and good value. What a delightful way to spend a couple of hours with a pint, good food and wonderful weather.The amenities are suitable for all age groups with tv”s a plenty for sports fans, pool table downstairs then into a great outdoor area complete with undercover seating. I will have no hesitation in calling in next time I’m in the area. Well done “Midland Railway “.

Beautiful facilities in the garden, food was lovely and reasonably priced, the staff were friendly throughout our visit.

On the main road through Syston, next to the railway station, the Midland Railway is certainly worth a visit. The food and drinks are both very good and the atmosphere is usually pleasant.

Visited with my daughter on a Saturday lunch not busy at the time. Ordered two chicken and leak pie and chips not a gourmet meal to prepare. The pie lid was microwaved within an inch of its life yet the base was stodgy and uncooked....

We were aiming to grab some lunch at a well known pub nearby but a long delay meant we looked elsewhere. We stumbled across this place which didn't necessarily look 'all that' from the outside but we were pleasantly surprised. Great service from owners Scott and Debs. They were very accommodating with our requests for high chairs, kids menu, heating baby food etc. Food was really nice too. A very relaxed lunch and so pleased we found it! I'm sure we'll be back again! Would recommend to both those with and without kids. Serve coffee as well as usual pub food.

Old Station pub that has been refurbished. We met the new management Debbie and Scot who were very friendly. The pub has several areas for eating and drinking. They have a good selection of Lagers and one Real ale. They helped me make informed choices from the menu as I am on a diet. It had lots of things that I would really have enjoyed trying/eating had I not been dieting. My husband had the Belly pork which he loved The food was taste and cooked to a high standard. The toilets were very clean. We will definitely visit them again soon.

Went in for a meal after looking at the website but arrived and told food finished at 7.0 .Didn't say that on the web site no explanation why no wonder the place is always empty when I pass it should have look a trip advisor sooner 20 minutes of my life wasted Wont be back !!!!!!

Went to watch the Leicester v Everton match on 7 may. Should of been a great day but ruined by the pub. Gripe number one no real ale. Asked if was going to be put on soon and got the answer of yes. Asked for a Guinness instead and they only have the cans and surge machine. Plumped for John smith smooth as we were keen to stay and have a good time. Just before kick off we were told we need to move as the table is booked. Plenty of other tables were free so why did we have to move?. Decided not eat here as it was shambolic and ate elsewhere. Won't be recommending or returning.

We had booked for a meal with friends as this bar was the the only one in the area that served meals at the time we wanted I had the cheese and tomato pizza which was absolutely tasteless !!My friend had the pie which was burnt , had hardly any meat in it and the pastry was so hard you couldn't get a knife through it !! The other people we were with said the meal was just about ok !!For what we paid for these meals we feel we have completely wasted our money .We certainly will NOT be eating there again , and would not recommend !

Looking forward to the steak night advertised on a Wednesday, live local so go in quite a lot, went the other Saturday night when we met friends fancied pub grub only to be told that they had stopped serving food and this was at 7pm, same tonight told they stopped serving at 6pm....let down !!!! Must be nice to be in a position to stop serving food at that time in this day and age !!!! Seriously not impressed !!!! Midland is a good pub now with a good atmosphere but seriously if you wanna keep your business serve food in the evenings when people have finished work rather than when they are at work !!!!

Visited last night with 5 friends expecting to spend the night there celebrating a birthday. However when we arrived and after we bought a round I asked about the food available (I had checked online earlier in the day and it said food served until 9pm and the menu looked just what we wanted).We were told matter of factly that no food was available as the chef finished at 6! If we had wanted to eat we should have called before (this was not requested on the website).It was frustrating particularly as menus were still on the tables and most of our party had started to look at and decide what they wanted to eat.We had to wait until we had finished our drinks before walking to another place to eat. Really disappointed.

I went today with my sisters-in-law. Menu did say Monday was half price on grills - apparently not, unless you go in ladies toilets or walk around the pub to find the board stating the terms. I did point this out & the staff were amazing. I opted for the chicken melt, as did one of my sister-in-laws. The other chose the chicken & leek pie. In all fairness the food was well presented, really hot & delicious! No faults whatsoever!. We met all the staff - Carla X 2 & Kyle X 2 - who were also amazing! Kyle Harris is only young, but is amazing with customers. I love the casual look (didn't realise he was important until he told me, but how much more relaxing than the suited & booted approach, especially for a casual lunch). Well done to all the staff today!

Had a lovely meal hot and tasty barmaid Carla very nice , pleasant. Also met the new manager Kyle Harris found him to be very polite and. Helpful with a query we had will definitely be going again

Had a wonderful meal. Red hot delicious . Staff were very pleasent well mannered and helpful. It was a lovely lunch and great company. Cant ask for more.

Can be very quiet, but also vibrant when busy or Sports events on Sky or BT. great drinks, food is always good

Food was cold , meal was just rubbish in general , pies were burnt , there was 8 of us and we all had something different and everyone said the food was cold and bland tasting , wont be going back

I visit regularly for a quick lunch time bite. The lunch offer of two course for £5 is fantastic. Limited choice and always seem to stick to the same things but cant complain for the price. It is what it is cheap pub grub done quite well.
