Bobby's in Leicester

My wife and I arrived at the famous Bobby's with high hopes of great authentic Indian food as per the many previous good reviews with little idea what a disappointment lay in store for us tonight. When we arrived the restaurant was not that busy and all started well, nice table for 2 and our server took our initial drink/food order within 10 minutes. From then on things slowly deteriorated, it was about 15 minutes before any drinks arrived (and missing our requested water jug) another 15 minutes later our initial hot starter style food order turned up, not being regular Indian food diners this did seem to meet our expectations. By now the restaurant had a few more diners but was far from full and about 20 minutes after finishing our starters a larger version of one of our dishes arrived but was obviously not for us as we had already consumed ours. I overheard a couple of other nearby tables having similar experiences whilst we were there. 10 minutes or so later I ended up having to ask another server to take our next course order (we had initially requested a short break before ordering any more food) so by now we have been in the restaurant for well over 1 hour, then we sat and waited, and waited and waited. After 35/40 minutes I had to get up a ask a server where our next food order was which turned out to be 2 small cold plate dishes (no cooking involved at all) miraculously within 5 minutes of asking both dishes arrived and whilst they were well presented they both seemed to be an amalgam of all the same ingredients, just plated up differently. It's now nearly 2 hours since we arrived and we're really not enjoying our food so asked for the bill which surprisingly turned up rather quickly (too little/too late) We didn't realise that a 10% service charge had been automatically added to our bill but if I had known I would not have paid this. On the plus side my request for a taxi was sorted quickly and arrived soon after, thankyou for that. All in all this was such a disappointment and I can only think they were having an 'off' night, but I would could recommend Bobby's to other potential diners based on our experience tonight.

The service was poor the staff were rude and I was very upset. It was very busy and did even apologise. I am complaining against them.

Thanks to Dipika and Kolmal for guiding us through and explaining the panoply of delicious dishes which were brought to our table this afternoon. It was much more than we could manage to eat so they kindly packaged the remains up for us to enjoy another time. The masala tea has a lovely aroma and tastes spicy and delicious and the coconut cake is satisfyingly moist. A great experience and we'll definitely be returning!

Afternoon tea is amazing so much food and it was all delicious! The servers himany and dipilcel were brilliant and explained what everything was and really looked after us well. Will definitely be coming back again!

First time at bobbys or afternoon tea. Fantastic friendly staff , nothing is to much. Made to feel very welcome and at home. So much food on the afternoon tea and the flavours ! Already planning to come back and we haven't left bobbys yet ! Himany/ dipikel our waitresses where extremely freindly and explained all our choices and gave us extra samples Will be back fantastic exprience

It was a pleasure to visit Bobby's a few weeks back. Special mention to Dipika, Ashu, Ritika and the uncle at the counter for their exemplary service and promptness. The food was equally good to compliment their attitude. We would love to go again. Thanks.

Always go to Bobby's to get some sweeets when I visit leicester, this time I decided to eat in, service was very slow and on top of that I recieved wrong order. Couldn't see any professional waiters. It's more like family run businessI guess, and most of the kids didn't have a clue what they were doing. The girl working at the chaat place was more helpful than the waiters and the lady taking orders. Sweets are top quality, though. They definitely need to work on their service and food delivery time.

I've been coming to Bobbys with my family since the late 1990s when I was little. The restaurant looks very different now, but I love its atmosphere and how open it is, with the natural light. The food is really lovely, the thali is filling, tasty, and great for that price, particularly in this climate. Service is always kind. I like to buy food from the shop side on the left too, it is always great for my cooking needs - the sev is great.

Went here a bit early so we were restricted to the choices on the menu. Bobby’s is a quick meal and catch up type of place to go to. I like my food a bit on the spicy side and this I did not get here. Only thing I loved is the Cripy Bhindi which I highly recommend to try, though they could not make it’s a bit more spicer for us it was still tasty. We ordered Mixed veg platter / Chole Bhaturas & Crispy Mogo which all were bland for me. Asked for a spicy sauce on the side but even that didn’t do anything for me. I would definitely go for the Crispy Bhindas but otherwise I would not go back anytime soon here.

Rubbish service. Called for food they said 30-35mins. Got there, they said another 10mins as they’d forgotten a couple of things. I got up again after 15 mins and said I’ve been waiting over 1hr, they said just another few mins for one more dish. After questioning, they said this would be another 20mins!! I asked for a discount as the food would be cold, they said you can have the sweets ordered for free, these cost less than £2 off a £44 order !!! They even had the cheek to charge me for the bag. This isn’t the first time something like this has happened. Great food but crap service, will take my business elsewhere from now on

I ordered a takeaway from here tonight, which cost me £12.95 including the delivery charge. For that I got 5 very small Katchuris and 5 small pieces of Patra , with chutney. ( £5.50 per dish) We weren't very impressed with the food and definitely not value for money! I've always wanted to try food from Bobby's, but wish I hadn't wasted my money now. My first and last time.

Had to wait long time for someone to take order although not busy at lunch time. Ordered a Thali and most of the food had no taste, potato, aubergine under cooked, dhokla dried, potato bhajia no taste. Very pricey and not worth the money.

Had an amazing time the food is amazing as always and the staff members are so polite would like to thank Dipika she was every helpful and respectful i couldnt fault her ♥️

Bobby's has really got worse now. I visited with my family today, Close to 35 minutes of wait and food dint arrive. Highly disappointed with service as even to take order they took 15 min... 35 minutes and still order did not arrive. We decided to leave but the staff did not even show any remorse! Save your time and look for other options.

There was a wait to get seated although we had booked in advance.The food when it arrived was good.

We visited Bobby’s for my father in laws 70th birthday, and had an absolutely fantastic time. While we weren’t quite expecting it to be so much like a diner/canteen, it really did not matter as the food was perfect. The staff were friendly, the food came out fast and hot, and the total cost was very affordable. We will certainly recommend and visit again.

Very tasty, colourful, and exciting food, and attentive professional service standards. We had the Punjabi thali plus another plate from the board menu , extra mango lassi, and all were gorgeous. As non vegetarians, we don’t miss the missing ingredient one little bit. Thanks to Himani and all the staff.

Food was good, it was a little oily. Service was great when they got to the table. Even though it was pretty empty it took longer for them to get to us or acknowledge us.

I did not want to give this review,Especially after having a wonderful birthday party for my son-in this restaurant. but service has FORCED me to give my opinion. simple food order 2 naans and 2 curries, 2 curries &1 naan came, and second naan came 20 minutes after. had to cancel as we had already finished our curries really spoiled the mood

As before, visited with friends for Bobby's special afternoon tea. This is an experience not to be missed! Service excellent, friendly and obliging even though place was packed. Food, well, it was as brilliant as last time and believe me, there is plenty! Special thanks to Komal and Himuni for their attention. And the hint of a birthday brought a cake and the Bobby's choir! Brilliant! Thank you so much. Yes, we'll be back.... again. 😊👏👏👏

I had family visiting from Devon and we decided to eat at Bobbys Restaurant on Belgrave Road (The Golden Mile) It turned out to be a great decision. It was a busy August Bank Holiday afternoon, but we were quickly found a table. We decided to order lots of small dishes, all of which were beautifully prepared and the tastes were absolutely amazing. We were helped by Dipy and Helmy who looked after us so well during our visit. Our dining experience was made even more special when Mr & Mrs Lakhani spent time with us, showing true warmth and hospitality. Bobbys is a true Leicester icon, long may it continue to serve the Leicester community. Thank you all, from Spencer, Marlon and Steve.

I was visiting The Golden Mile with my family, who were visiting from Devon and decided to visit Bobbys Vegetarian Restaurant on a busy Bank Holiday Monday. The restaurant was very busy, but we were quickly found a table. The menu was so good and it was hard to decide what to order, so we ordered lots of dishes, all were served with the most amazing care and beautifully prepared. Thank you Dipy and Helmy for taking the time to explain what to expect food wise and their great service. I, being a Leicester lad, have visited Bobbys many times over the years. I must thank Mr & Mrs Lakhani for their warm hospitality and spending time with the three of us explaining the restaurant. Bobbys Restaurant truly is a genuine Leicester iconic institution, long may it continue to serve the community. See you soon. Thank you all, Spencer, Steve and Marlon.

Booked for the afternoon tea experience after seeing it on Rick Stein's TV programme. Absolutely did not disappoint in any way, what a fabulous experience! Over the course of around an hour we were brought a huge selection of both savoury and sweet treats, accompanied by strawberry milkshakes and masala tea. During the feast, the staff are so attentive, checking if we wanted any more (!) and whether we were enjoying different things, explaining what everything was. There was absolutely no way we could finish everything so the team provided takeaway boxes for us to continue into the following day! We were so full we had to cancel our evening meal, and didn't eat anything else for the rest of the day! So be prepared - make this the only meal of your day - you won't be disappointed! Thank you to Khitai, Himani, Nayan and Ashu ... I hope we'll be back!

The bestest vegeterian food that we had in entire London and Leicester. Why are these guys so under rated? The freshness of all the food served, the yummy taste and ever smiling Armin and Nayan who made sure, we have the amazing experience. Very polite, very courteous and very pretty Armin ( if I get the name right), and very straight forward. My daughter has severe nut allergies and all Resturant’s including Amravati just kicked us out refusing to serve or make efforts to prepare fresh for my daughter. Here at Bobby’s, they took care of each detail and my daughter could have two repeat orders of yummy pav bhaji in addition to other food. Wishing them to have the success as they deserve it. I feel the energy strongly and had positivity in the Resturant and satvik food quality. Kudos!!! Our first time in London and this one place, shall always remember.

My daughter is severely allergic to nuts so places like Amravati politely refused services rather than making efforts to make her fresh food. Other restaurants would say that we cater from outside in bulk so cannot take chances. When we sat at Bobby’s, very beautiful, pretty, smiling, courteous, Arene ( I forget her name but It starts with A and ends in Ne), who confidently took our orders and ensured my daughter enjoys her food without worries and so did we. Fresh, hot, tasty, yummy savouries, main dishes and dessert. It was just perfect. The positivity in the Resturant, the (satvik) wowowow feel relishing each morsel. Our London trip is definitely not ever forgetting Bobby’s. Paradise for vegetarians. I wish them Michelin star as they have it all. Everywhere else, you will eat only stale food but Bobby’s will serve you healthy food. Bhul gaya Sab kuch, yaad nai ab kuch, bas ek baat na bhuli, Bobby’s, you are the best. Thank you so much.

I went to the shop yesterday to buys sweets, it was so terrible, they didn’t even know how to treat the customer, worst experience in my life and the sweets are not that much great aswell.

Again great place. Wide range of food available to the in and takeaway. Large seating area downstairs and upstairs. Toilets available nice and clean.

Impromptu stop for a quick bite to eat, first time going here, but will definitely go again. Staff were great, nothing too much trouble, kept well informed about progress of our order, the owner came and introduced himself to us to make sure everything was satisfactory, it was above expectations. As a chef myself, I was blown away but the amount of herbs and spices crammed into our food, all working together and compliment each other. Definitely one to visit if your in the vicinity!!!

No issue with taste of food, that was fine, neither here nor there. But the service. The staff were bringing food out one at a time, each dish taking 10 minutes to bring to the table. Got one child's order wrong which then resulted in waiting for another 20 minutes. We asked for water, receieved the cups, the water was finally served 15 minutes after. We all ate at different times and finished at different times rather than together as a family. They just need to improve on this. I am sure when the restaurant staff go out to eat, they would like to eat at the same time as their family or friends, the same would also be nice if that was done here

Came all the way from Blackpool for a proper Indian Gujarati taste but a big disappointment tried thali, spring role, dosa, samosa chart, Bombay sandwich didn't enjoyed a single thing the best thing out of all was a chapati it looks like fresh other than that everything was tasteless. Services very bad as well

Bobby's is a Leicester institution, established in 1976. I've been there many times because the food is usually very good. However, the restaurant's weak spot is service, which is very inconsistent in terms of quality and efficiency. It can take ages to order, even longer for food and/or drinks to be served. Once, I found a Coke bottle cap in my lassi. I raised the issue with staff and it was completely dismissed. No apology. So, in sum, Bobby's is a mixed bag. On a good day, it's great, but it can be frustrating.

Sagar and Ashu served us very good service and overall a great experience. Ordered chana bhatura and a dosa good prices, fresh food made on order, highly recommend.

The food was so delicious, proper hygiene was followed by every staff . Each staff member was polite and friendly (Deepika) the one who served us. Highly recommended to everyone!!

Disappointing Experience I recently dined and unfortunately, the experience was far from enjoyable. The service was undeniably poor. Our waitstaff seemed disinterested and inattentive, making us feel like an inconvenience. The prices were exorbitant for what was offered. The menu promised a luxurious dining experience, but the reality was far from it. The portions were incredibly small, leaving us hungry and unsatisfied despite the hefty price tag. I would not recommend this establishment to anyone seeking a satisfying and value-oriented dining experience.

We bought Punjabi samosas and mixed sweets today. Samosas was very horrible taste and sweets were very dried, taste less and not fresh. We visited there twice but both times we had a bad experience and horrible food. Please don’t waste your hard work money in Bobby’s restaurant.

Ashu and deepika were amazing host. We loved the food and amazing atmosphere.

Service was good. Food taste was very low quality. Won't recommend anyone to go there if someone wants to have curry. Paneer curry was very sweet and when I asked about it, they said this is how curry comes.very bad taste.

We went for a shopping trip to Leicester from London. We decided to have lunch at our regular restaurant in Leicester - Bobby's Restaurant. However, we were advised by a young lady that there was a waiting time of 40 minutes. She took our mobile number and said she will reserve a table for two and give us a call when it is ready. We went to various shops on Belgrave Road. After 40 minutes we went back to the restaurant but was told that a table was not available and would be another 15-30 minutes. We said no problem just call the mobile. After another 40 minutes there was no call. We were very frustrated with the service, especially being regular customers at Bobby's we decided to head back to London. After reaching London I called the Restaurant at 9.15pm to complain. I requested to speak to a manager or the owners none of whom were available. A very shoddy service and we will no longer be visiting Bobby's Restaurant (A restaurant which we have visited since 1972 on our fortnightly trips to Leicester) Thank you Bobby's for wasting our time!!

I recently had lunch at Bobby's Restaurant and was thoroughly impressed. The staff (Ritika) were highly professional and attentive, ensuring that my dining experience was enjoyable from start to finish. Today was my wife's birthday, and she was very happy and impressed with the meal and service. The staff's warm hospitality added a special touch to our celebration, making it a memorable day for her. I ordered a dosa and Manchurian, both of which were delicious. The dosa was perfectly crispy and served with a variety of flavorful chutneys and sambar, which added a delightful balance of tastes. Hands down the WORST rasmalai I have ever tasted !!! Took about 20-25 mins to serve it. By serve I mean, take out from refrigerator and put in a bowl ! Followed by painful 5 mins of consuming the ras malai.

We went to celebrate my father's birthday and ordered Maruna Budja, chaat, Pani Puri, and kachori. Komal and Dipika provided great service and even helped us with serving the mini cake we brought for my father. We also ordered a Gujarati thali, chili paneer, and Bobbie's special chaat, all of which were delicious. I would recommend adding a green vegetable curry to the thali. Overall, we had a wonderful time, and my father was very happy. Thank you.

Having seen Bobby's on Rick Stein's programme we decided to try their afternoon tea on a visit to Leicester and were not disappointed. A tasty mix of savoury and sweet dishes and very generous quantities which meant plenty to take home for another day. The staff were very friendly and attentive and tempted us with seconds of anything we particularly enjoyed. I'd recommend Bobby's afternoon tea for anyone who wants to try a different take on traditional tea and scones. Thanks to all the staff - Himani, Nayan and Komal (I hope I've got your names right!) - who made us so welcome.

Superb food, great selection, very reasonable prices. Tried the two thali dishes as an introduction and looking forward to revisiting to try some other dishes.

All food delivered was fresh and so delicious, one of the dishes came out was a tad spicy for me so extra bits were brought out to temper the heat. Nothing was too much trouble. The Rose Milkshake was heavenly and the Masala Chai equally so. I can't remember the names of all the dishes but just book and try it for yourself. Hubby let slip that it was my birthday the day before and this was part of the birthday plan. Halfway through the team brought out a plate of three Barfi with a candle and all sang Happy Birthday and then a rendition of 'Happy Birthday' was played on the music system. Unfortunately we live over 2 hours away so can't make this a regular trip but we will certainly return one day. I was so excited with the food I forgot to get photos. Thank you Team Bobby's for making my Indian Afternoon Tea a memorable one! :-)

Nice restaurant serving authentic Indian food. They have a full vegetarian menu and have got good options including thali. Service is a bit slow but found the staff as friendly.

Indian Afternoon Tea for two. The gift that kept on giving.staff are very welcoming, the establishment is very clean and tidy. We were celebrating a birthday and the whole restaurant joined in with the Happy Birthday moment. This was very magical and will never be forgotten by us. It is a shame we are not locals.

This place was a complete disaster. The food was absolutely terrible, and the service was an utter joke. I can't believe I wasted my money here when there are so many better options available. The dishes were poorly cooked and lacked flavour, and the staff seemed uninterested and unprofessional. Save yourself the disappointment and avoid this place at all costs. Don't bother, folks—there are far superior dining experiences to be had elsewhere.

I had a dinner last night with my family the staff recommend me some food like Bobby's special chat in starters and in mains paneer butter masala and the she is very helpful, friendly and the service was served by ritika thank you so much we would definitely will come back.

The service is terrible. When you ask for the bill whether it’s busy or not they take an age! I was also served a beer and the waiter poured half of the beer bottle into the glass which was greasy and dirty. He did get me clean glass and a fresh bottle of beer and offered me to keep the opened one too. But it’s just poor service in general, takes a while to be seated even when it’s not so busy. I’ve been here a few times now and the service is always the same! The Chaat is the best around though!

Very slow service , even tho it was not a busy time or tables full . Cutlery had to be sent back to be replaced with clean . This happened on other tables whilst we were sat . The waitress still manage to take the wrong order, even after confirming it twice & when replaced they brought the same dish back out. Dishes all came separate times with the last dish chilli paneer over 20mins late ( think they forgot until I asked ) . Toilets were disgusting & doesn’t look like they are inspected during the day. The staff were polite & that’s the only reason I’ve given an extra star rating .

This is one of the oldest Indian restaurants in Leicester, founded in the early 70’s. I last paid a visit here about 8 years ago. We ordered Masala Dosa. It was average at best. But the kachori starter was nice. We both had sweet lassi as our drink. Lassi was fine but the glass was a coke glass see pic, £4.25 a glass which is comparatively steep, especially when you factor in 10% service charge added to your bill. Average food I can handle, but there were other factors. No soap in the dispenser (or the plastic bottle sitting on the basin) in the Men’s restroom. The floor and the circular table leg were grubby. Can’t have just happened in one day especially that it hadn’t rained today. The service was poor. Asked for a jug of water, it came without tumblers. The food arrived without spoons, had to ask for that too. All in all, not a pleasant evening at Bobby’s. The place had a dated feel to it.

The area is full of vibrant food shops which we visit from time to time. It was nearly lunch time so we popped in for a couple of dishes - none of which we knew and thoroughly enjoyed the lot. It was difficult to give much for the atmosphere because we were early, but the staff were obliging and we would definitely go back

Gone down the wrong way after the refurb. Not sure if ownership has changed or they had a sense of redirection. Used to come here every time when visiting Leicester but let down on the last 2 visits. Although not dine in restaurants, there are 2 other establishments only a few minutes walk further up the road who have excellent quality Gujarati food which Bobby’s once dominated. Shame, good memories.

Last night was our fourth visit over the last year and we've loved it every time. A superb range of vegetarian food. Something new to try on every visit. Friendly, attentive service. Each time we have been here has been with different friends/family and they have really enjoyed the evening out, too.

Delicious food with great prices, ate lots and had dessert! The service was also really good and quick.

Worst experience ever. Went last sunday and the staff was also not paying attention to take order and when i placed the order they took almost an hour to serve the food. Not only this, the spoons and glasses were not washed properly i encountered the food stains on them. And most importantly i didn't like the food and serving at all.

Overpriced. Overrated. Visited with family for evening dinner. Ambience is OK. Neat and clean, though. Service once you order is tooooo slow. They take ages to bring your order, and when asked, you get a template reply of just coming/making fresh as if we do not know how much time it should take for a restaurant. Quantity is too low as compared to high prices and the quality was okish. Not great at all and nowhere near what an authentic Indian restaurant should have. Disappointed. Will not visit again and would not recommend it to anyone.

We ordered 1 kulfi, one tea & 1 shrikhand. Kulfi came after 30 minutes, then tea came after 50 minutes and then we decided to leave after using ladies room. While leaving then we got shrikhand & had to take it takeaway as it was too late. In 50 minutes, I can make tea, drink it & my kidneys can filter it out. There was nothing ordered that need low flame tendering cooking. It takes them 1 hour & 20 minutes to serve previously frozen kulfi & shrikhand. Was it a Shab-Deg we ordered that cooked over night. And mind it, restaurant was not fully packed. Horrible time wasting service. Learn from Chai paani across road, even with a queue outside on street, their service is super quick

Lovely experience at Bobby's! We had the Thali and Special Chaat, amazing flavours as expected! The service was fantastic and the vibe continues to bring us here month after month.

This establishment has been at the same location for years. It used to serve great food in those ealy days. Just like home cooking. Not anymore. Very, very disappointed, coming all the way from London. Am not sure what spices they use, but it left a very weird taste. Cost/price, too much, quality, thumbs down. That's all I have to say.

Third visit today and Bobbies never disappoints! Four of us. One of us was celiac and loved the fantastic range of gluten free foods. Said it was the best Indian meal he had ever eaten. The rest of us just loved the great variety of flavours and dishes! Also bought some wonderful sweets to take home!

rubbish service .. wait for 30 minutes for 1 allo tikki take way .. but nobody .. get back with order

We came here with a large group and they were very accommodating. We didn't feel rushed at all. The food came out hot and tasty. The only issue was that since everything came out at different times, some people had to wait a good 10-15 minutes for their food while everyone else had theirs. If they could bring out dishes closer to the time, this would be helpful! Otherwise service was great!
