The Mews Hotel in Wakefield

Excellent place to stay, myself and my partner had a lovely stay here. Bed very comfortable and the room felt very homely, the staff were nice and welcoming. The only negative (and this might be personal preference) was the sliding door for the bathroom, there was no privacy due to this door design, if I can leave any feedback for the hotel it would be to change these doors for lockable ones but other than that everything was exceptional and we were made to feel very welcome! 10/10

Fantastic place lovely food. Great atmosphere. Staff are really friendly and work really hard. Sunday Lunch is the best. Would definitely recommend The Mews.

Don't normally stay overnight when travelling from Newcastle to Wakefield but had been in Manchester the day before so needed a stop over.Found the Mews on line close to my Wakefield site. The welcome was great not over the top but friendly and helpful. Room was lovely and spotless. I then sampled the bar and food. Outstanding food and beer at a reasonable price. Haven't had breakfast yet but going of my experiences tonight I'm sure it's a winner. I travel alot and places like the Mews make it so much easier

Rooms small but clean. Food is phenomenal. Service excellent.

Food was excellent. The bar staff (especially 2 young men) provided great and professional service. We did change rooms as from the photos I presumed I had booked a ground floor room, but on arrival it was on the first floor. This wasn’t a problem though and they changed it with no quibble. A very quirky venue and will definitely return. The only feedback which many others have said is that it’s not an English breakfast, sandwiches or continental.

Very busy bar and restaurant. Reservation recommended. Friendly welcome. Well appointed rooms with nice decor and furnishings. Bathroom was excellent. Very good kitchen and dining experience with many specials on the board. Nice and quiet overnight with ample parking. Close to M1. Highly recommend.

The food at the Mews used to be very good especially Sunday lunch,never had a bad meal here until today.It was very disappointing overcooked meat was dry and tough roast potatoes were reheated vegetables were very undercooked and hard Yorkshire pudding was reheated and tough ,gravy was not meat gravy it was made with either granules or powder.

The Mews Hotel and Pub is stunningly beautiful ,and is set back away from any hustle and bustle. The rooms are absolutely beautiful,and the bed gave me the best nights sleep I have ever had working away from Home. The Bar is littered with history and artifacts and has that oldy worldly smell and feel of a place steeped in history and how a Pub should be ,like in olden times they called them Inns. Will definitely be back while I am working up nr Ossett.

We stayed here overnight. Comfortable bed and nice room, the bathroom had a musky smell (nothing a spray of perfume couldn’t fix). Hotel staff were really nice and helpful & breakfast was great. Free onsite parking.

Great hospitality, excellent food and beautiful drinks

This was our 4th stay here, 5 years after our previous stay. We visit Ossett for the Beercart Festival where we help out. Since our first visit back in 2015 this is our go to place to stay. Always a warm, friendly welcome, the food is amazing. All their food is locally sourced and cooked on the premises. Pets are welcome - there is a field behind The Mews where you can exercise your pets. The rooms are clean and comfortable. It is popular with visitors and locals alike and booking in advance is recommended.

Had a family meals for my daughter's birthdays we hadn't been before but we will definitely return. We had mains and deserts all the food was amazing and all the staff were so lovely definitely a 10 out of 10 for food and service.

Got confirmation booking on website. Came with a 4 year old to be told sorry we’ve cancelled you booking and sent you a email. I understand they sent an email but who really checks emails through the weekend the system shouldn’t confirm your booking if it isn’t guaranteed. Definitely need to update there system. Good reviews for food and I’m not giving them a bad review for that as I was looking forward to a meal here, just disappointed driving all the way over to be told no we have cancelled

Came here for my mum's birthday meal for a table of 6. We were quickly seated on arrival and our drinks were served within minutes of us arriving. Our orders were promptly taken from a friendly member of staff. The starters, main and dessert were served hot and delicious and no-one seemed unsatisfied with their food. Our drinks were kept topped up and there were full bellies all around. Would definitely recommend the steak and ale pie, the meat was some of the most flavoursome and tender I've ever had in a pie. Atmosphere was nice and tables were set a good distance apart witb plenty of room. A lovely evening and meal. Will definitely be back.

First time trying here tonight. Visited to celebrated a special occasion of a family member and was lucky enough to have the private room. The staff were fabulous and accommodating when we wanted to decorate the room. The evening was absolutely perfect, the food was brilliant and the service we received from all the staff especially Will was the best Iv ever experienced in a restaurant! Thank your so much, we can’t wait to return!

We went here last night for our early Xmas family night out and what a treat! I had beef shin from the specials board and it was delicious. Everyone else on the table really enjoyed their meal also. We will definitely return when back in the area

I have nothing bad to say about this hotel. The rooms are are excellent.. everyone is so friendly. The meals are unbearable as good as any high class restaurant. The chefs are really talented and a very varied menu available especially with the specials board. . A place to stay where you don’t want to leave

We stayed for one night on the way to York, lovely! Our room was beautifully decorated, comfortable beds and very clean, it was on the ground floor and had patio doors leading out on to a little garden where you can sit. As the weather was lovely and the bar had stopped serving food (Sunday night) we ordered drinks from the bar and a carryout from the nearby Greek restaurant and sat in the garden, superb! All the staff were very friendly and the little place had a lovely atmosphere. The breakfast was a bit basic if you didn’t want a cooked breakfast, however it was served with a cheerful smile and I got 2 lovely croissants. I would highly recommend this little place, very good value and a happy place to stay 🥰

Cancelled our booking on the day before the visit. We had friends driving almost 100 miles for lunch with us. My wife booked the table over a month ago on their app. She got an email on the night before to say that the booking had been cancelled with no explanation whatsoever. She called immediately when she read the message and got no sense from the person on the phone. We have visited here many times, with many friends. Not one of us will ever be back. Disgusting service

We ate here on a Saturday evening and am so pleased we did! I absolutely loved my food , as did all of us. I ordered moules marinieres to start with and then ox cheek in red wine with horseradish mash and veg- both were absolutely delicious, perfectly cooked, seasoned and presented really beautifully. Fantastic service too and plenty of choice on the specials board, as well as the main menu. My husband ordered steak and also commented on how tasty it was (though he'd have preferred a plate as opposed to a 'board' , but that's a very small point!). 100% recommend.

Why cannot this or any bar / restaurant display prices on food menu ? Instead of numbers. Where is the price / number results. Found the bar very interesting but no prices is a no no with me I'm afraid.

The Food was Good but the Pricing was Expensive. And Having to Pay 4.50 for Potato’s on top of £18 for Belly Pork really stuck in my throat. Drinks were reasonably Priced.

My partner and I stayed at the Mews Hotel, Ossett, last weekend as we were going to a family celebration on the Sunday. We ate in the hotel on the Saturday night and had two tastey breakfasts. It is a lovely hotel with very friendly, helpful staff, good food and a good atmosphere. I also loved the quirky decor in the bar. Thank you

Wow what a gem of a place. Great hotel friendly staff always happy to help and just beyond amazing food that was to die for. Great starter, pork medallions partner had swordfish for mains finished with cheeseboard, hats off to the chef food was lush. If any down side i would say the offer of a full cooked breakfast would be great but the ladies was good with the continental breakfast, very happy and helpful. We will definitely be back.

Comfortable and very pleasant stay will use again when I'm next up in that area for work, would recommend to anyone as it was reasonable rates.

Had a family roast here today at it was fantastic. The staff were friendly and gave off a very pleasant vibe. Would highly recommend the roasts. Well cooked food and plenty of it..

Visited for the first time since Covid. Fabulous. Recommend the pork belly v highly but you won’t fit a pudding in if you have it. The crackling is delicious but could endanger fillings as v crispy. A couple of tasty pints were sampled as well.

Saturday evening with friends booked in the private annex room. Great for a large group with seating for up to 12 / 14 or so & private smoking area outside the patio doors in the back garden. Excellent choice of food with standard menu + a good number of starter and main chef specials. Tuna & Scallop starter superb ! Staff were excellent and really attentive, couldn't fault the food or the service - well done everyone at the Mews.

After many years of travelling on business , The Mews is without doubt the best place I have ever stayed at , based on the all round excellent experience . This is such a great hotel , magnificent food of a very high standard and reasonably priced , superb , cosy bar and restaurant , professional and friendly staff , great selection of beers and wines and lovely , stylish and quality furnished accomodation at a great price . Cannot recommend highly enough , outstanding place , which is much enjoyed whenever I visit .

Completely safe and recommended For those nervous of coming out after lockdown.This was only my second meal out after lockdown and I was so impressed I had to share, there was sanitiser available everywhere and the restaurant was spaced out in order to ensure everyone felt comfortable, the table service was quick and attentive so people didn’t feel the need to get up for drinks or anything and as always the food was on point, completely enjoyable evening feeling totally relaxed and at ease, The Mews will no doubt be my 3rd meal out after lockdown as well.

Myself and a colleague booked 2 rooms at The Mews in Ossett. We never expected 5* food and hospitality but that’s what we received. Owner, Manager and staff all ensuring that everyone was 100% happy. Unbeatable food, service and value. Our rooms were so clean - why stay in a chain when you can be treated like a valued local.

Stayed here for one night with friends, a wonderful little pub with accommodation a short drive into Wakefield.Rooms are clean and well kept with tea and coffee facilities. The pub itself is how a old English pub should be a mixture of locals and people visiting. The food was excellent definitely recommend although we were a little disappointed with breakfast maybe because it had been built up by people telling us how good it was. But a really nice place to stay would recommend to anyone.

Have eaten here a couple of times now and on each occasion the food and service have been excellent. Most recent visits have been tables of 9 and this hasn’t caused any issues.The food is all home cooked and fresh which is a real plus point.The slow cooked belly pork and lamb shank are both 100% + delicious!The portions are really good and overall everything is excellent value for money.Happily recommend this place to anyone and will be making return visits

So, we stayed over because we had gone to cap house colliery earlier in the day, we had already seen the images of the food and we knew instantly we were gonna stay there for dinner! The whole place has this lovely cosy homely feel, and the food was unreal! The room was a superior double and was just perfect, the bed was so cosy I didn’t want to get up in the morning ! The staff were so lovely as well and I’m just gutted we had to leave before breakfast but I’m sure it would have been just as amazing as dinner ! I’m sure we will be back!

I attended Saturday evening and was immediately confronted by someone clearly intoxicated. Went to the manager Paul who wasn't very interested in what I had to say. Booked table with my wife and daughter and we simply walked out.

My family and I experienced what can only be explained as the best ever Christmas Dinner at the Mews this year, The staff were absolutely amazing working hard and smiling effortless at the same time creating a beautiful festive atmosphere, The Restaurant has an amazing unique feel all around it with the quirky hand picked memorabilia placed selectively all around the dining and seating area making the room welcoming and interesting.The food was amazing and did not disappoint in any way, there was a great selection of starters to suit everyone and then there was the main course, the meat melted as you ate it and there was defiantly no shortage of vegetables, we all had one of the lovely desserts from selection board to top the meal off, everything was cooked and presented beautifully and it all tasted as good as it looked, an amazing day. Thank you.

Superb Saturday night out for table of 6. Great atmosphere in traditional pub with excellent food, service and staff. All 6 of us had beautifully cooked meals, including rack of lamb, garlic chicken and braised steak with horseradish mash. Will return for Sunday lunch sometime in the new year.

Continues to have outstanding food/staff and atmosphere. We had beautiful queenie scallops tonight, sweet and perfectly cooked. Smoked cod loin which was so tender and flaky - just the best restaurant in at least 30 miles.

Visited in June with family to attend a funeral. A warm welcome, decent accommodation and amazing breakfast all at a reasonable price. Ate in restaurant on fish night - restaurant packed (as it was on pie night the day before) - food was very good. Special mention to the very friendly breakfast waitress. All in all a good stay. First class is the only way to describe the Mews, the staff are brilliant and can't do enough for you and the food is to die for. If you are thinking of trying it you won't be disappointed but book a table well in advance as it is so popular.

Stayed here for two nights end of August. Very helpful staff especially the morning ladies. We have two large greyhounds who were made totally welcome. Breakfasts Excellent as were the Evening meals. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Visited on a Thursday night with a colleague for 1 night. Wonderful find and will definitely return if I am in the area or even within 50 miles! My room (No7) was small but perfectly formed and very clean. Now for the best bit - FOOD. Dinner was amazing we skipped starters as we had had a slightly later lunch but there were a lot of temping choices. My colleague had a Haddock and Prawn dish with veg and loved it. I opted for a chicken dish which was so delicious I can't stop thinking about it. Chicken so moist and tender and so flavorful. Veg was cooked just right no mushy nastiness. Both of us struggled to finish but the portions were not ridiculously large that there was a great deal of waste. Suffice to say there was no room for dessert which is sad as the choices were not your usual time honoured suspects.

Called in bank holiday Monday and had a great afternoon, eating from prepared to order bbq and drinking a fine selection of beers from the bar. Respect to the chef who worked so hard in the incredible heat. We will be back.

We have visited The Mews on a number of occasions now and every time we have a fantastic meal, so we invited my Uncle and Aunt along for his 70th Birthday, yet again Team Mews you didn’t disappoint the food was fantastic as always and they thoroughly enjoyed your establishment staff are friendly and informative and everyone enjoyed. Called in for a business lunch with no booking. The fish n chips were fantastic. There was a great atmosphere and the service was superb. I would thoroughly recommend,
