1st time visit to this pub, picked at random & it was a great choice. The service was excellent, really friendly staff. We had a table in the conservatory with a lovely view of the Seaton Burn. The Sunday roast was lovely, no complaints about any part of the meal, everything cooked to perfection & nice & hot. 3 if us had the 'trio of meats' & what a size 🐷 Couldn't resist the sticky toffee pudding, it was delicious 😋 but after the roast we should have shared a portion. Will definitely be back, the grandsons are wanting to try it 😁

We visited the MC on 2 occasions during a recent visit to the north-east. Both times we had various drinks and evening meals. We found the staff to be really friendly and helpful. The menu is mostly traditional British with local produce served in hearty portion sizes. All of the food choices we made were great value, piping hot and absolutely delicious. The pub is a real ale person's paradise. Ales that are widely available are supplemented with more unusual variations. Cask Marque is proudly held and beers were being relished by a thirsty clientele of locals. The wide selection of beers has something for everyone and I was particularly pleased to see Guinness 0% being offered amongst a range of low alcohol products. The pub is lively, friendly and busy and an absolute credit to its staff and owners. If you're in the area you should call in, though you will need to book food in advance.

Have been to this pub/restaurant a number of times for lunch and the food has always been exceptional. However today went for Sunday lunch and the meal was unbelievable. I didn't think it would be possible to improve on my previous visits but it did. The food quality, service, value and staff were excellent, and they also serve small portions if that is what you require. A testament to the popularity of this establishment is that by 12.15 all tables were taken and the reservation boards on each table indicated that this would be the case for all three sittings. If you like traditional Sunday lunches I would highly recommend

We were given a table even though not booked and were happy with that .Got our drinks ,Red Wine (ok),Pint of shandy was flat and had to be taken back . Was replaced. Meals ordered from an extensive menu ,however when the food arrived at the table the serving staff accidentally knocked a glass of red wine over which went all over the table and all over my shirt . The staff speedily came to the rescue to mop up and clear the spillage ,replaced the wine . The food was of an excellent standard but I am disappointed that there was no concern for the state of my clothes been covered in red wine from the bar manager/owner . Had to go back to our hotel to change and wash out my shirt

Looked more like a traditional pub from the outside but when we went in it was completely different. Very busy for a midweek evening but the pleasant waitress found us a table in the conservatory. The meals were excellent, well cooked, good portions and absolutely delicious. Even real chips not frozen coated mash. Friendly atmosphere, can't fault it. First visit for about 50 years and what a difference. The pub and restaurant were busy, even though it was a Thursday lunchtime. Nice friendly atmosphere and quick pleasant service. A good idea to book if eating. The standout dish for me was Mediterranean chicken with lots of juicy chicken breast and proper chips. A couple of small minuses were that the conservatory is quite intimate so it’s not a place for a clandestine assignment. Also I would avoid the salads. But no problem with 5 star rating.

A favourite of ours for many years, 'The Constable' continues to please. An old fashioned pub with good well kept beer and reasonably priced tasty food, what is not to like? The usually extensive menu is a little limited since Covid-19, but still bigger than most that we visit. Much of it is home-cooked and plentiful: braised steak and five vegetables for under £11; small mince & dumplings with veg for £6.50. Where else can you get that value? Many portions come in small and large, but it's strictly English cuisine, so don't expect curries and such, but the usual salads, burgers and fish are there if you choose.Where many places limit their deserts to hot and sticky, here there is also a good selection of cold offerings. There are usually/always SIX well kept real ales on tap with the the usual lagers, ciders and wines. It has always been known for its collection of single malts and I believe the selection of gins matches this.'The view' from the conservatory looking up Holywell Dene is worth a visit just for that, especially with the log burner going in the winter or the light sparkling on the 'burn' when the sun shines. There is outside seating overlooking the dene if you would rather.Unlike many venues since lockdown there are ample and friendly staff and the service is quick. There is a carpark, but the adjacent road suffices if needs be.The toilets are small, but clean.

Great real ale pub. We dropped in here after a long walk in the wind. All the COVID protection and procedures were in place and the staff made us really welcome. My brother and my brother in law are real ale nuts and they were so impressed with the beer selection - some good local ales on draught with some of the nationally known ones as well. Plenty of other options on the keg side as well as a good array of gins and other drinks for the non ale drinkers. Product knowledge of the staff was exemplary. This place was so good we went back the following day ! We didn’t eat here but the food , especially the fish and chips looked good and other guest were really happy with the food. Pre booked a festive lunch for today. When we arrived it was very quiet, only a handful of customers. Our table was in the conservatory which we had enjoyed in the summer but today it looked very drab. The Christmas decorations were poor - a couple of bits of tinsel on the ceiling and a tiny tree next to the log burning stove which wasn't on. Annoyingly we were next to the door and it was opened by other customers to enter and leave 5 times during our meal and each time an Icelandic blast of cold air filled the room. This door should really not be in use during the winter. The table was set with horrible shabby placemats which need to be binned and the only festive token was cheap crackers. We were so disappointed there was no atmosphere at all, no music playing or anything. They brought the wrong starter out and we had to wait for that to be replaced. No real complaints about the food which was tasty and hot and nicely presented just nothing special. Also the drinks prices are extortionate.

Often difficult to find a suitable table for parties above 4 people. we were 5 and had to compromise with a chair at the end of a table for 4. The menu has changed quite a bit since my last visit and so have the prices in an upwards direction, however having said that the prices were very competitive previously. I ordered a steak with the usual trimmings but although I ordered rare it came medium but I accepted it and it was OK. One of our party ordered the lemon sole and felt the portion was too small. Another in our party ordered the plaice and said it was overcooked and it certainly looked it. Everything considered I felt that the food was not as good as my previous visits. The staff are very friendly and there is a great choice of beers and other drinks

First visited on the bank holiday weekend. It was a lovely day so we sat outside overlooking the view of the dene below. The lady behind the bar was very friendly and helpful. We just wanted a drink and light snack and the toasted sandwiches were really nice, served with a salad and coleslaw garnish. We called back for lunch last week and sat in the conservatory. The tables for 2 are quite small but it's nice and bright and has the view. Hubby had pie and chips with veg - a large portion with loads of gravy but was just average. I had the homemade fish finger sandwich with a portion of chips. The service was really quick but my fish fingers were quite overdone and dry. We'll certainly give it another try and choose something different next time. The mince and dumplings they had at the next table did look and smell lovely!

My partner and myself visited here for sunday lunch. We ordered two sunday lunches both roast lamb and one pint of fosters and a pint of real ale 27 pound odd it came to but we were hopeful it was going to be well worth the money, it just wasn't, the lamb was the cheapest they could of found it was like processed not roast lamb the veg wasn't bad tasted fresh . Every table were given an extra gravy boat with their meal without asking we didn't and every table was asked any sauces can i get you anything we didn't get asked ..maybe we were wearing wrong deodorant haha. The meal was not great and maybe staff could of bothered to acknowledge us in a small way. Don't think it was worth the money.

A group of 7 friends visited for lunch. We had previously visited this pub about a year ago. First thing to impress was the fine selection of cask beers available. The food menu is displayed on a board with a great selection of choices. 3 of our group (including myself) opted for the steak which came with chips, mushrooms, onion rings and a small salad. Great value at £7.50 for an 8oz steak and cooked to our liking. Another popular choice was the fish and chips.Everyone was pleased with their choice of meals. We will definitely return to this venue when in the area.

Called in for Sunday lunch without booking, all tables were either fully taken or reserved. Luckily somebody phoned to cancel their reservation so we got a table straight away in the conservatory. We had one pork dinner, one beef and a childs chicken. All were lovely. Good friendly service too and good beer. £22 for the 3 meals so not expensive and well worth it. Will remember to book a table next time!

I've driven past this pub thousands of times over the years but never been in. Looking for an alternative to our usual local eatery we popped in and were greeted with a lovely welcome as soon as we entered. The staff were very friendly and efficient. The food was delicious and served promptly. The prices were good. We'll be back.

Just called in on the off chance at midday, only to find most of the tables were booked. We were given a table in the conservatory, which was free until half past one. We both had the beef dinner, beef, veg and Yorkshire puddings very tasty and the gravy was too die for. All washed down with a pint of real ale (several to chose from).

Whenever I visit Seaton Sluice I always pop in to The Melton Constable. This is a very well run pub by a young and enthusiastic couple. It always has a very good choice of excellently kept real ale. The building itself is very impressive and when the weather allows, the beer garden overlooking the sluice is a great place to sit.

Stopped in for lunch on a Sunday, very limited menu on a Sunday as you can only get a Sunday lunch which I didn't fancy but it was delicious nonetheless. Quick service and nice food.

As always the food was amazing and the portions very generous. A lovely warm welcome and Sarah went above and beyond when one of our party decided after our meals were brought out that she would like some bread and butter with her meal. Sarah sorted it out without any fuss.

We stopped by chance at The Percy Arms for a drink and ended up eating an amazing meal-Wednesday afternoon and very quiet but the food was delicious and the service excellent. The soup was very tasty and the steak cooked to perfection - we will return!

I’m so sad to see this lovely place closed. It had great staff and atmosphere and a fantastically good smoked haddock chowder. I wish its people all the best and I thank them for all the great visits we’ve had here. I really hope that there might be a replacement cafe of such quality. We’ll watch with interest.

Our introduction to this country pub was to a spacious, comfortable, immaculately clean bedroom, with stunning views of the fells. Next dinner and cooking of Michelin quality. A highlight was the scallop with belly pork, a brilliant dish. Next morning breakfast, again flawless in every respect from the service to the produce. Any prospective dining pub owner/chef should come here to see how it's done.

My partner & I came here on Sunday for a spot of lunch we both had Fish & Chips ( I had salad with mine instead of chips) I have to say the fish was amazing I would say 100 times better than you would get at a fish shop. The batter was so light & crispy and the fish tasted so good. The staff made us feel so welcome happy smiling faces and we did not have to wait long before our food came I would whole heartily recommend plants plus for lunch
