Poor menu, dreadful service. The wait staff weren't interested. Waited an hour for our food. My scampi was soggy and had evidently been left out for a long time. Would not go back, even of the place wasn't permanently closed

i sampled the not so big plate and was assured it was still a decent meal and how right they were.... i had bangers n mash... it was piping hot... a full plateful and I thoroughly enjoyed it and was very fairly priced.... i must say my pint of guiness was equally as good. pleasant staff as well... well done team... we will be back.... a great experience

Came in for Sunday Lunch and was greeted by a very rude older lady, asked if we could have a table for 6 o’clock, her reply “Nat we stop serving sooner than that then she walked away. The nice girl behind the bar managed to help us find a table for an appropriate time. Don’t think the older lady liked working here.

Generous portions for the Sunday carvery. Dog friendly with inside & outside seating. Vey welcomed service. Recommend booking especially with dog. Bowls of water & meat scraps for the dog.

We stopped off at the Meadow House on our way to Edinburgh. After ordering food we had to wait 50 minutes for a burger and baguette. There were only three other families in front of us too. Very disappointed at the lack of service where we weren’t informed of such a long wait or we wouldn’t stayed in. Whilst the food was decent no one asked if everything was ok. Staff looked very disinterested in their roles. This was the first time in many years since I have been after coming a few times where we had good times. To improve I would recommend that customer service is addressed, after all customers are your biggest strength.

Venue was empty when we arrived but were still asked "Have you made a reservation?" We were eventually put at a table which apparently had been reserved but the reservers had failed to show. Perhaps I can see why now. Ordered two panini (fish finger and cheese/red onion) and a separate side order of chips. When they arrived, there was a scattering of limp salad with one and 15 chips with the other. The menu made no mention of side salad with either panini. The chips were a tepid and stale reheat. The 'fish finger' was more batter than fish. The bread was burned along the cut edges. The whole thing had the hallmarks of 'chef couldn't care less'. My wife addressed the quality issues at the table when asked and the waiting staff did apologize. Another apology was given at the time of paying but nothing more. Having passed this location many times over the last 23 years, this first visit was a disappointment. It was also our last visit.

We went for the all day every day carvery, wrong. Carvery not every day as stated only Sunday Lunch.When asked why was told that it was generic website from the chain. We were also told when we arrived there was no rump steak, no gammon, no mix grill and no sausage and mash. Needless to say we walk out

Went with friends who recommended the place. Never again. The male waitperson looked like he didn’t want to be there, and had to come back and check our order again. We waited an hour for food, then had to chase it up. The female waitperson was not in any way empathetic. My scampi was soggy and not worth what I paid for it. My mum’s chicken tikka masala was burnt on the bottom, though she did say the rest was good. My chips had been waved in the general direction of a microwave. Charged for the wrong table (partly my fault). This was rectified, up to a point. Paid for the meal and left, feeling disappointed. I didn’t raise concerns with staff due to their manner (both of them) and the fact I was tried after being awake for over 30 hours. I ate the scampi only because I was hungry. Next time, I’ll go over the road to Morrison’s. Avoid this place, it’s not worth what you pay to be treated as if the staff can’t be bothered at all. N.B. Was told, not asked, by TripAdvisor to change my review as it went against their ‘guidelines’ (which appear to be laughable). Fora moment, I thought I was onFacebook with their joke of a ‘Community Standards’. I was factual, but no reason was given for the instruction to change my review. I stand by everything I initially said, regarding service (or more accurately lack thereof), staff attitude, quality and value for money (nonexistent).

Carvery Sunday. No other meals. Booked for husband's birthday. Staff are absolutely lovely. Food was terrible, cold, vegetables hard, not roasted potatoes. Must have been a one off bad day. Could not be like this every day. Hate giving a 3 star as we both really liked the staff. But have to be honest.

Very poor meal. After waiting for 45 minutes for food, when it arrived two of the plates that ordered fish were very disappointed. The fish was not in a slice but in pieces as if it had fallen apart. The mash that came with the sausages were like pwdered mash that had been reheated once too often. Will not be back.

We had Sunday carvery food was delicious stuffing & Yorkshire puddings were definitely home made. Fast & friendly service. We will be back.

Where on the website does it state they don’t do full menu on a Sunday ? Family visiting, arrived at 4.15 to be told only 1 portion carvery left and they don’t do regular menu !! So were they not serving food from then until closing ?? Needless to say won’t be back.

We ordered 2 of "the big 5" meals the mixed grill and chicken tikka masala, there was only one couple other than us in there but still had to wait nearly 45 mins. After 30 mins the waitress came out and said the chef had just realised he didn't have any naan breads would that be OK? So I asked for an extra poppadom instead. When the food eventually came out there was no tomato and onion salad or mango chutney which were included, I said they were missing and got the mango chutney but not the salad, the onion bhaji was very overcooked and the poppadoms were swimming in grease portion size wasn't very generous. Hubby's mixed grill consisted of a 6oz rump steak which I doubt was 4oz a very small gammon steak 2 sausages a few chips an overcooked fried egg and supposedly 2 tandoori chicken wings, which were plain and one was on my plate !! You could see more plate than food. Very disappointed.

Filthy! Feet stuck to the floor, tables dirty, sticky and covered in hair. Cluster flies in the windows. Dogs water bowl on the table. Yuk, yuk,yuk

Great food the lady who served us was so friendly & welcoming , we had our dog with us & she certainly made him welcome (thank you) after our meal we sat out in the lovely maintained beer garden. We certainly will be back .

Even though they had suffered extensive storm damage, the food was lovely would recommend the curry, the owner was very freindly would recommend. They also allow dogs.

Family of 5 (4 adults & 1child) popped in for a quick lunch. The restaurant was not busy, it had 4 other people having lunch. We ordered 2 chicken, bacon, Tomato club baguettes , 1 chip butty, 1 cheese & red onion melt and a Childs chicken nuggets and chips. The chip butty consisted of chips between 2 slices of white bread. The kids meal was good, 4 nuggets and chips. The cheese and onion melt was tasty. Unfortunately the chicken, Bacon, lettuce and tomato baguettes were not good. To start with neither sandwich’s came with any tomato and when we pointed it out we were given some wafer thin tomato which wasn’t enough to make up for the chicken that was very dry, rubbery and and didn’t taste very nice. They were not fully eaten. Credit where credit is due the lady working behind the bar was nice. The cheese melt was tasty and the kids nuggets and chips was good. I believe this pub has recently re-opened after a refurb. It looks and feels like it should be a pleasant place to have lunch unfortunately if they can’t get something as easy as a Chicken club sandwich right then we won’t be back. Overall very disappointing.

13/02/2022We arrived as a table of three at 1230 looking for some Sunday lunch - which was lucky, as this is apparently all they serve on a Sunday…however a table sat down next to us toward the end of our meal that were allowed to order from the regular menu - strange. There was nobody at the bar so we had to walk right into the restaurant area on the left to find someone to speak to about taking a table upon arrival. We were told by a pleasant male waiter that it was bar service only, and to order food and drinks quoting our table number - no problem. While sitting with drinks, waiting for food, I visited the toilets. Of the three cubicles in the room, two of them had ‘heavily soiled’ toilet bowls and seats, while the last - the disabled toilet - was clean enough to use, but had no paper. I decided not to use the facilities until they had been cleaned, so I left to find a member of staff. I found a female waitress at the cutlery station so quietly mentioned it to her, to which she replied ‘ok thank you, I’ll get that sorted’ - which she did. I was sat at a table facing the entrance to the toilets so saw her go in, and after some time, come out again. Our food arrived in a reasonable time, 3x Beef dinners…and 3x anaemic roast potatoes. The food filled a hole, but in all honesty, probably one of the poorest Sunday dinners I’ve paid for. Unfortunately nobody came to check back on our table once the food was delivered, despite the restaurant not being very busy at this time. Anyway, after finishing our meals, I decided to visit the toilets again before leaving, and was more pleasantly surprised than the first time. The toilet bowls and seats had been cleaned in the two cubicles, but unfortunately still no paper in the disabled toilet (which would pose a huge problem for someone in a wheelchair as neither other cubicle was big enough to fit a chair in). All in all, not a great experience at all, and I won’t be back. It’s a shame because it has the potential to be a lovely pub, as the refurbishment has made a huge difference from what I can tell from the old pictures on this site. It appears the staff let the place down on this occasion.

It was rather a challenge to find a place for tea on New Year’s Day, but we were elated to find The Meadow House was open. The thing is, we were stuck in Spittal on the other side of Berwick, as the bus into town never materialised. I thereupon rang them to apprise them of our delay, and they told us we had an hour left before the kitchen was to close. So, off we marched and made it in time to partake of supper. I had a nice steak and gravy, cooked as I like it (i.e., burnt to a crisp), and my partner devoured a burger.We ended the evening with several drinks and left contented. Thank you very much for having waited for us.

We nipped in for some food roday and was pleasantly surprised by how big the portion size was for the money we payed. All staff were extremly friendly and always smiling. We chose to have a curry and although wouldnt normally unless at a curry house we both absolouyly loved it. Cant wait to return and try more of the menu There was not really much of a wait for the food either wich for what we all got was great Thank you meadow house staff

Visited for lunch with family on a visit to Berwick. The premise are well located by the A1. Plenty of parking. Outside although recovering from some storm damage appeared well maintained.The interior was very clean and well decorated. The staff we met were very friendly and welcoming having recently taken over the premises.Best of all was the food, reasonably priced with large portions. The food was fresh and cooked to order, very tasty. We all had starters, main course and sweets, not one criticism by any of our party which is unusual.Well worth a visit.

We booked the Berwick Travelodge largely because we were intending to eat out each evening at the Meadow House. But we didn't find out, until we arrived at the Travelodge, that the Meadow House has been closed down for some time - allegedly due to their inability to recruit staff. We drove over to have a look, but the place was in darkness. If you try phoning you get an answerphone message to say that there is no one available to take your call and you can't leave messages! We were recommended to try the Brewers Arms in Berwick town Centre. Excellent food and service, very reasonable prices, but they don't serve food on Saturday evenings!

Booked a table via open table for a Monday night. Arrived in plenty of time to find this place closed. I have e mailed open table to say they are shut on a Monday. Open table informed me this establishment hasn’t informed then they are shut.

My husband and I booked a table thru the Open Table system as per the pubs website for Monday 30th August for a stopover on our way to Scotland. Had been before so knew pub not brill but ok. On arrival the doors were locked and all in darkness despite having received confirmation the day before from Open Table and have now had further email from them thanking us for dining there!!!! Appalling customer service as both the pub and Open Table didn’t bother telling us it was now closed. We didn’t want to drive back into Berwick so ended up in McDonalds!!! At least the tea was hot!! We will be staying at Berwick again but will definitely not be booking at the Meadow House!

Booked a table, at the start of the week, turned up on the Friday evening to find that the place is in complete darkness and shut. No call to tell us not to come, still taking bookings on their website. If they can't even be bothered to open to serve you then I dread to think what the service is like. Avoid. Can't rate it ZERO but would if I could.
