The Mayflower in New Forest

The Mayflower is a very efficiently run establishment. Without exception all staff were friendly, polite and very helpful - especially Pedro! Our room was spacious, comfortable and quiet and well provided with tea, coffee, nibbles etc. We found an impressive variety of food available, and throughout our two-night stay we enjoyed very well-prepared meals. The front external appearance of The Mayflower would be greatly improved if the hanging baskets were refilled with living, vibrant colour!

A really lovely place to stay and eat too. The room was gorgeous and we enjoyed both our evening meal and the breakfast was amazing. The service was also great. Thanks for a wonderful stay.

Really great meal - I had ham egg and chips, which could be considered middle of the road - but this was outstandingly good. Well done. Pint of Tall Tales to accompany and excellent service made for a very enjoyable meal. Keep it up!

Very old pub with character in a lovely location. Dog friendly. Room was comfortable with a fabulous bathroom. Maybe some TLC needed on paintwork in the rooms and windows. Staff were great. Breakfast was freshly cooked with good quality ingredients. We would definately stay again.

Top accommodation, nice pub, nice room, good menu and super friendly staff. In a beautiful location close to the sea.

Nice building, plenty of space to park and nice spacious outdoor area with character and things for the kids. Inside is nice, and the staff were friendly. I can't speak for staying there as i just grabbed a Sunday lunch. I did find the food to be quite a disappointment im sad to say, i thought the shorter menu might give better quality food, so i went for the roast beef (as shown). The beef itself was generous in size and quite tasty, but everything else tasted kinda microwaved, the potatoes im almost certain were, at least reheated as they were very tough and some bits felt a bit on the colder side. There were like 5 peas to, which seemed random ha, either chuck a load on there or none at all? The meal came to i think £22. I would probably pay about 14 for it. I wasn't expecting top notch but just better for the price. Still i'd recommend the place. Not tried other menu items, but i wont let that put me off next time. (visited on 4th May 2025)

Great location, friendly helpful staff, food quality. Weather amazing. Dogs have now recovered after missing the sausage on our second morning.

After a long walk from Keyhaven we were ready for our lunch. We booked an outdoor table with service and were soon attended to. Our starter of beetroot hummus was delicious and the main course of a trio of meats Sunday roast was one of the best I have had. I genuinely struggled to eat the amount on my plate and it was all delicious. The waiter was very friendly and added to our great experience, thank you.

Great service and wonderful food in a perfect location for visiting Lymington. Would definitely recommend. Only knocked off a star for the bed as it was too soft for me and the green glowing safety light in the room.

Wow! Just the one night here but were treated like royalty. The staff were so helpful, polite, and professional that we felt like long life friends. The food was delicious, 10/10 Our room couldn't have been better. I wish we could have stayed longer but will definitely be back. 👏 Absolutely Fabulous place.... 👌

Staff seemed miserable. It was very busy, so this might have been the reason.

We stayed overnight here as a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 kids, 1 dog). The room was great - having a separate living space meant the kids could sleep in their own space which was a luxury! We enjoyed time in the garden with the play area, then had a lovely evening meal. Very kid and dog friendly. The breakfast was also great - and the hot chocolate for the kids a real treat at the start to our holiday. It's right by the harbour so lovely to walk around the wetlands, and extremely close to the Lymington ferry to IOW for an early(ish) morning start.

Really enjoyed our stay, such friendly staff and a lovely venue. Very comfortable room and the food was great too. Will definitely stay again when in Lymington. Thank you for looking after us.

The pub was very quiet but it took an unacceptably long time for our order to arrive. For the price we paid the dishes were small and not very well cooked. I had the BLT sandwich which was soggy bread with a slice of bacon and half a tomato inside and a bit of green on the side. The salt and pepper calamari was particularly poor, chewy and tasteless and greatly over priced. The worst meal we have had at the Mayflower.

We stayed in room 1, the Leopard room which was clean, spacious and had a partial view of the river. The staff were so friendly and our dog was welcomed too. The Mayflower is located right on the river/close to the Solent and easy walking distance to the town and other pubs and restaurants. The breakfast was amazing too! Would recommend the Mayflower as a great base to explore the New Forest!

We were very well looked after by the smiley team. Mussels and the steak were 5*, the Rarebit less so (panini style base was too crusty). Location is great.

Although our room was a little tired for the price, the public areas, location and staff certainly made up for it. We arrived early and the staff kindly let us leave our car in the car park while we walked into town. A lovely walk, about 10 to 15 minutes. We later had drinks in the lovely garden, followed by a very nice meal. Breakfast was also good. The staff were wonderful; friendly, professional and helpful! What more could you ask! Thank you.

Nice place have been on numerous ocassions, wine is always good, serice was good, good outdoor seating area, well worth a visit.

A wonderful pub in a fantastic location at the harbour. We stayed for two nights and were upgraded to a suite. Really nice rooms and comfortable beds. Breakfast was superb. We would definitely return.

Rooms are lovely. Really comfy. Room 4 has a generous bathroom with a roll top bath as well as walk in shower. Excellent views over the beer garden and marina too. We enjoyed every meal we had there... Excellent chicken, leek & bacon pies in the bar (25% discount on Wednesday via the Butcombe loyalty app). Breakfasts are tasty too... I particularly enjoyed the Shakshuka. Thumbs up to the excellent range of Butcombe beers too. The staff are friendly, efficient and a true credit to the Mayflower. We were fortunate to have the most wonderful weather during our stay, so it really made for the most perfect break.

Did not stay overnight. But had a wonderful lunch in the superb surroundings. The serving staff were pleasant and efficient.

Fabulous welcome by the team, room had a great view(room2) Breakfast great choice Sunday lunch had a few problems but nothing too drastic, you even took it off our bill and free dessert to compensate, so thank you. The Mayflower is a very welcoming hotel in an excellent location. I cannot fault the rooms,the service or the breakfast. I will definitely go back for another visit. The Manager and his staff could not of been more helpful.

Lovely cosy pub with beautiful rooms and a spacious bathroom. The breakfast and dinner were delicious and the service excellent. The location was great for a morning walk past the marina, we didn't use the car all weekend!

Good car parking. Warm room, good shower pressure and temperature. Comfy bed. Friendly staff. Quality of the cooked breakfast was very good. However, there was no buffet breakfast items, no cereal choices, no brown bread only sourdough, no fresh fruit. Breakfast menu given to us stated all the prices, so it was very awkward not knowing what we could order for our B&B prepaid rate. Why is there not a separate menu for staying guests? Food in the evening was disappointing. Menu choices were over engineered with elaborate words and unnecessary ingredient choices. Our meals were ok. The venison was tender but had no real flavour. The leeks accompanying the fish cakes were grey and inedible. We asked for the cost of our meal to be added to our room tab. When we checked out, I had to ask for a receipt and noticed they’d charged a 10% service charge on the meal even though we were staying there. Harsh. Can’t remember if the menu stated they would add this but for staying guests, I was shocked to be charged. Situated a little further out of town than we expected; positioned bizarrely between the yatch club and residential area. The hallway and stairwell to the rooms is very tired with terrible stains on the ceiling and chipped paint everywhere. Clean room in the main but the windows were so dirty in the sunlight. Dripping bath tap. Stayed for two nights and our room was not made up on our first morning so we had to ask for additional tea making items from the bar. Unfortunately we were given milk in a flask that smelt of sour milk so quite off putting. All in all, over priced rooms for facilities / service. Wasn’t even asked how anything was during our stay, so didn’t say anything while checking out. I think even the staff can see the place needs overhauling.

3 hash browns for £10 that smelt of fish & dirty oil. Not recommended!!

We are return visitors to the new forest and love to come to the mayflower for food and drinks with our dog Scout. She is quite anxious but the staff are very helpful with helping us find a good seated position. Recently we ate here for 3 weekday lunches, a Sunday roast and on our final morning had breakfast here too. The food is always great and the Sunday roast is the ultimate meal for me. Beautiful succulent loin of pork, perfect roast potatoes and lovely seasonal veg. The gravy was like silk and tasted amazing! We wish we lived closer as we would I wouldn’t be cooking on Sundays very often! The breakfast was also delicious. Service wonderful and cannot wait to return to eat more!

I came here for lunch only, and did not stay at the hotel. It was a great place to rest after a long walk in the nearby nature reserve. The staff in the restaurant were efficient and friendly, and the fish dish was delicious. Great pit stop.

Great pub, had fish and chips, absolutely gorgeous. Staff were great, was there as part of a orienteering event that was using it as the base. Needed my food earlier than others as had to get a train, they were brilliant, sorted it, all I can and say is if your in Lymington it's definitely worth going to

Stayed here for a night with my wife, lovely room. Had steak for dinner which was cooked perfectly. Breakfast was absolutely delicious too. Would highly recommend staying here and also dine. Went for a walk around the marina in the morning on a beautiful crisp sunny day.

We had a girls lunch on Saturday- it was wonderful from start to finish- amazing service and absolutely delicious food! Highly recommend!!

The hotel building outside and inside was full of character, well decorated and furnished with comfortable and fairly room and a nice view from window. Close to harbour and IoW ferry route with views of water side.

This was our first trip here and upon seeing the outside of the hotel, our expectations were raised for the inside. The main bar was large with tables spaced well apart, but oh dear! not only was the outside grey, but it looked as though someone had bought a job lot of the stuff and used it everywhere they could inside. Any exposed wood was a very dark brown which actually made the whole place rather depressing. The type of lighting used had had very little thought put into it as the ceilings were very high. The food however was excellent I'm glad to say. The menu was very limited though and the prices quite high as well. The wines were also very expensive but good. What surprised me was that the steak and ale pie was priced at market price (not shown but denoted by the letters MP) and turned out to be the most expensive dish on the menu at over £20. The staff were very good and friendly however. When I was presented with the bill, it had a service charge of 10% on it. I queried this as there was no forewarning not even on the menu. I was told there was, but when the waitress checked, it was not there. She asked if I wanted it removed, but I left it on anyway. By now, it was dark outside but the car park was completely unlit. The only illumination came from the pub sign at the entrance and was not bright enough to illuminate the whole of the area, a real downer as my wife is disabled. Overall a rather disappointing visit. Such a pity.

Came for Sunday lunch with my family and it was all lovely

A great little place, perfect location for the coastal path, yacht haven and town. Food and service really good! As there were 3 of us we expected a room with a double and a single bed, but we had the suite with sofa bed in the living area. Much more space! Very happy with our stay and would recommend.

Stopped in for a couple of drinks on a sunny Saturday afternoon in February and enjoyed a couple of drinks from a great selection and sat in the great beer garden. Atmosphere was good and wish we stopped for food and place looked lovely.

The staff are what makes this hotel so lovely. We stayed in room 4 with our dog for my birthday and it was perfect. A large bathroom with a walk in shower and separate bath and a large bedroom with a comfy bed, sea views and tea and coffee. We ate at the hotel both nights and the steak and ale pie is the best I’ve ever tasted. The atmosphere is so calming with background music, attentive staff and beautiful food and drink. Marcell runs this hotel perfectly and his staff are a credit to him. The location is excellent and there is ample of parking. 10/10 and thank you for making our stay so memorable. Lisa

Nothing to particularly rave about. Food is bog standard and the manager is bloody rude! We've eaten here for years but stopped visiting in 2018. It's completely changed and I'd personally say, gone a little downhill. It's a great place for some chips and drinks and in the best location possible for lymington

Love this place! Just out of the town but on the Solent way before the marina, the service was first class. Greeted by polite, friendly and accommodating staff. Dog friendly to! The food and drinks were excellent and staff were attentive throughout. We never have pudding at lunch but enjoyed the atmosphere and mains so much we stayed and they are big yummy puddings! Will definitely be coming back on our holidays in the summer

Stayed here for Valentines Day Check in was easy lovely staff member who showed us to a gorgeous room. Extremely spacious , clean and decorated nicely. Cocktails were amazing and the food was delicious. Unfortunately we didn't sleep too well as the radiator in our room was faulty and wouldn't turn off making the room too hot even with the windows open. Bed was comfy, great powerful shower. Breakfast was amazing we opted for the big breakfast and thank you to the lovely member of staff who served us and for being very helpful. Great place to stay only 15 min walk to town centre, great for Isle of Wight ferry. Will definitely be returning.

The Mayflower is such a lovely boutique style pub with a few rooms. It’s in a fantastic location near the harbour and Lymington high street is close. The rooms are all luxurious, super comfortable and quiet. After a long day exploring / walking with the dog it’s lovely to chill in the bar area, by the open fire, where they serve the most amazing food. It’s hard to know what to choose! One of the main reasons we have returned to the Mayflower (apart from the great location & food) is the staff; they are friendly & really helpful.

I stayed at the Mayflower for two nights at the end on Jan 2025. My room was lovely, with a view of the river and sailing pictures on the wall, and had all the amenities one would expect, plus bottled water and decent tea bags. Breakfasts were good and I ate in the restaurant three times, including lunch as part of a group of 26, which I had organised. The food was very good in every case, with a wide choice on the menus. The staff were excellent throughout, being both polite and helpful. Thanks to Manager Marcell and to Beth and Olivia in particular. I would happily stay at the Mayflower again.

We recently stayed overnight at the Mayflower, as we were visiting Lymington (lovely place for a day out - plenty of good pubs and places to eat, as well as excellent local shops), and the Pub was in a good location about half a mile from the town centre, and had plenty of parking on site. Our rooms were reasonably priced and very clean and spacious, with great en-suite facilities (I had a freestanding bath in mine as well as a great 'rainforest' shower). Breakfast was very good and the staff were all very welcoming. We would definitely stay here again if we decide to visit Lymington in the future.

I’d rate this place 10/10. We recently stayed at the Mayflower for a local wedding and would say it was amazing value for money! The rooms were lovely. The family room was perfect for our 2 daughters, the hotel provided a cot for our baby and a single bed for our daughter. The room was really big and had a bath and shower which was ideal. The staff were really lovely. The breakfast was incredible with gluten free options. It was in a lovely spot! We would definitely return.

Went to the Mayflower for a roast with my son after a hike and the service was great facilitating a picky child …. The food was amazing and would definitely recommend.

We had lunch on Boxing Day for 6 people and 3 dogs. The staff couldn't have been more welcoming or the food more delicious. The Mayflower is one of our favourite places to eat when we are in Lymington. The service and food is consistently excellent.

We had Xmas dinner here today and it was exceptional. We very rarely eat out as I'm a wfpb vegan but each course was tasty, hot and cooked well. The staff were friendly and helpful too.

Fantastic ! I stayed here one night for work, all staff were very polite and helpful !. Checking in was smooth i had an introduction up to my room and was offered a hand with any belongings! Rooms were clean and spacious with very good facilities. The breakfast was one of the best I have had in I’m not sure how many years kudos to the cheff where credit is due!, parking was secure with cameras looking into the carpark and parking was free. Overall a very good experience!. If I had any constructive feedback, only as I stay away for work frequently, the room door locks could do with being modernized as having to manually lock and unlock the door can be forgotten easily and perhaps a slight security risk also.

We have visited only the restaurant area with friends, so cannot comment on the hotel part. The service was great and they accommodated us when we moved arrival time to later. The food was good and there were many various options including Xmas menu. Also, they allow dogs in. I would recommend it.

As a member of Butcombe Inns loyalty club we decided to have a couple of days away in the New Forest so chose The Mayflower. It was ideally situated near the marina in Lymington with a 10 minute walk into the main town and 15 minute walk to Lymington Town railway station. We were warmly welcomed on our arrival and were pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to a very spacious room which was immaculate. There was a roaring log fire in the main bar area. The food was amazing, Sunday lunch was exceptional and the size of the fish filled the plate. All the staff made us feel at home and couldn’t do enough for us - thank you. We will be recommending to family and friends and will return in the future.

This place is tucked away near the Marina. A must visit. Rooms are spotlessly clean, food plentiful, staff and service is impeccable. Couldn’t fault the place.

We as a cycling group had stopped at this location of a pub for lunch, the food they serve is lovely. It is just next to the Lymington ferry and has a public carpark behind the garden which is accessible. This pub offers it's own parking on the grounds itself and is wheelchair friendly. and the portions are big we will be back again. This pub has friendly staff too and plenty of parking. Happened upon this pub by chance on a day trip to Lymington. Located near the sailing club. Nice and cosy with an open fire. Staff were friendly, food was OK but nothing great.

Hotel is well located for the town centre. The room was very nice, very spacious with a great bed and bathroom. Evening meal and breakfast were very good and the staff were all very friendly and provided great service.

Had a lovely few days, with quaint shopping and the harbour on your doorstep and The New Forest and lovely villages a short drive away.

Disappointing stay. Breakfast and service were good. Room needs some tlc. Mouldy bathroom, Paint chipped, annoying green emergency light above the door which illuminated the room at night. Squeaky and uncomfortable bed.

Such a rare find, a lovely pub, close enough to town ( Lymington) to walk but also beside the river estuary with views. The staff were friendly & efficient, the room was absolutely lovely & very spacious with a large separate bathroom & free standing bath. There was everything you could wish for in the room from ironing board to a fan & even a small heater should you need it. Great value , a gem of a place, oh & a large garden & even plenty of parking. We chose this pub as it is part of the Butcombe pubs which we have stayed in before and enjoyed their hospitality. Unfortunately, this one seemed to be in need a makeover. There was an off-putting smell of fried food when we first walked in and this was explained by the fact that they had just finished lunch - fair enough but we stayed there three nights and the smell didn't go away. We ate here on the Wednesday and sadly the meal was not what we expected. My husband had the fish and chips and said they were very oily. We ordered a side of onion rings which were cooked in the same batter which seemed to be extremely thick and cloying. The meal came suspiciously quickly i.e. when we ordered the starters appeared 5 mins later. When the plates were cleared the main course was put in front of us!! I realise that there was only another 3 tables being used and no one else was eating but a slight wait between courses would have been acceptable. We were sitting in a booth which had a large hole torn off the seat (in bad need of a makeover). The room was very clean and beds were very comfortable but chipped paint on the walls makes it look worn. We were teased with the fact that we could enjoy their free wifi but it didn't work in all the time we were there. When we checked in we were told that this was due to the heavy rain but we managed to get wifi in all of the other pubs in Lymington. We stayed 3 nights and the pub was never busy, in fact not many people there at all. I don't think they have replaced their tables since covid times and they were still spaced very far apart. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

I only went for lunch and a walk on the coast. The place is very clean. There is a nice choice of seating inside with a decking area outside. The food is fresh tasty and well presented. The staff are nice

Two very comfortable nights,good breakfast and enjoyed a delicious dinner with a friend. Staff are excellent, very enthusiastic and helpful. 20/10/24 Stayed for 5 nights again the staff were friendly and helpful.Leopard was the name off my room,which can be a little noisy at times apparently it’s above the walk-in refrigerator🙄 The only other problem is the lights need to be brighter and I think the rooms would benefit from a small refrigerator. I made two phone calls to reception and the noise carries on.

Very good value with an amazing menu suitable for all tastes. Always a lovely ambiance at these pubs. We took the family room for 2 adults which as a generously sized 2 room suite with large bathroom, however, the pull out bed was not comfortable at all, so be aware. Perhaps fine for a light weight child. The position is lovely - so quiet and on the doorstep of lovely walks by the water. Googlemaps overestimates the time into the town - we did it in under 10 minutes. Train station so close, you don't need a car. My only gripe was the automatic addition of service to our final bill for food. We'd have liked to have had the option to tip.

Recently visited for breakfast - what a great experience - lovely selection of well cooked and very tasty food- especially the Butcombe full English and the eggs Benedict - will definitely make it a regular thing- also visited for Sunday roast- fantastic beef and pork and lovely Yorkshire puddings-can highly recommend!

I stayed for a week to visit family in the area. After a difficult journey I was greeted by warm friendly staff who remained helpful and friendly throughout my stay. The room was well decorated and had everything I needed, except a refrigerator,. The bed was kingsize and comfortable although it creaked. The bathroom was huge and well appointed except there was no plug for hairdryers etc only a shaver point. Bromley shampoo, body wash, soap and hand cream was nice, but the addition of hair conditioner would be appreciated. I enjoyed my week in The Mayflower and would highly recommend it.Parking is easy and the restaurant very good. I ate there with family several times, we all enjoyed the food and the service was exceptional.. The breakfasts were delicious and generous.
