The pub was very quiet but it took an unacceptably long time for our order to arrive. For the price we paid the dishes were small and not very well cooked. I had the BLT sandwich which was soggy bread with a slice of bacon and half a tomato inside and a bit of green on the side. The salt and pepper calamari was particularly poor, chewy and tasteless and greatly over priced. The worst meal we have had at the Mayflower.

Mayflower were able to fit us in last minute on a Saturday at 6pm. Spacious dining room and dog friendly. Food delicious, chorizo pie was outstanding and fishcakes, baked Camembert to share. Charlie our waiter was absolutely excellent, would go back just to be served by Charlie. 4 of us, 1 shared starter, 4 mains, 2 beers 1 wine = £120. Apparently there is a loyalty scheme which gets money off.

We stayed in room 1, the Leopard room which was clean, spacious and had a partial view of the river. The staff were so friendly and our dog was welcomed too. The Mayflower is located right on the river/close to the Solent and easy walking distance to the town and other pubs and restaurants. The breakfast was amazing too! Would recommend the Mayflower as a great base to explore the New Forest!

Although our room was a little tired for the price, the public areas, location and staff certainly made up for it. We arrived early and the staff kindly let us leave our car in the car park while we walked into town. A lovely walk, about 10 to 15 minutes. We later had drinks in the lovely garden, followed by a very nice meal. Breakfast was also good. The staff were wonderful; friendly, professional and helpful! What more could you ask! Thank you.

Rooms are lovely. Really comfy. Room 4 has a generous bathroom with a roll top bath as well as walk in shower. Excellent views over the beer garden and marina too. We enjoyed every meal we had there... Excellent chicken, leek & bacon pies in the bar (25% discount on Wednesday via the Butcombe loyalty app). Breakfasts are tasty too... I particularly enjoyed the Shakshuka. Thumbs up to the excellent range of Butcombe beers too. The staff are friendly, efficient and a true credit to the Mayflower. We are return visitors to the new forest and love to come to the mayflower for food and drinks with our dog Scout. She is quite anxious but the staff are very helpful with helping us find a good seated position. Recently we ate here for 3 weekday lunches, a Sunday roast and on our final morning had breakfast here too. The food is always great and the Sunday roast is the ultimate meal for me. Beautiful succulent loin of pork, perfect roast potatoes and lovely seasonal veg. The gravy was like silk and tasted amazing! We wish we lived closer as we would I wouldn’t be cooking on Sundays very often! The breakfast was also delicious. Service wonderful and cannot wait to return to eat more!

This was our first trip here and upon seeing the outside of the hotel, our expectations were raised for the inside. The main bar was large with tables spaced well apart, but oh dear! not only was the outside grey, but it looked as though someone had bought a job lot of the stuff and used it everywhere they could inside. Any exposed wood was a very dark brown which actually made the whole place rather depressing. The type of lighting used had had very little thought put into it as the ceilings were very high. The food however was excellent I'm glad to say. The menu was very limited though and the prices quite high as well. The wines were also very expensive but good. What surprised me was that the steak and ale pie was priced at market price (not shown but denoted by the letters MP) and turned out to be the most expensive dish on the menu at over £20. The staff were very good and friendly however. When I was presented with the bill, it had a service charge of 10% on it. I queried this as there was no forewarning not even on the menu. I was told there was, but when the waitress checked, it was not there. She asked if I wanted it removed, but I left it on anyway. By now, it was dark outside but the car park was completely unlit. The only illumination came from the pub sign at the entrance and was not bright enough to illuminate the whole of the area, a real downer as my wife is disabled. Overall a rather disappointing visit. Such a pity.

We chose this pub as it is part of the Butcombe pubs which we have stayed in before and enjoyed their hospitality. Unfortunately, this one seemed to be in need a makeover. There was an off-putting smell of fried food when we first walked in and this was explained by the fact that they had just finished lunch - fair enough but we stayed there three nights and the smell didn't go away. We ate here on the Wednesday and sadly the meal was not what we expected. My husband had the fish and chips and said they were very oily. We ordered a side of onion rings which were cooked in the same batter which seemed to be extremely thick and cloying. The meal came suspiciously quickly i.e. when we ordered the starters appeared 5 mins later. When the plates were cleared the main course was put in front of us!! I realise that there was only another 3 tables being used and no one else was eating but a slight wait between courses would have been acceptable. We were sitting in a booth which had a large hole torn off the seat (in bad need of a makeover). The room was very clean and beds were very comfortable but chipped paint on the walls makes it look worn. We were teased with the fact that we could enjoy their free wifi but it didn't work in all the time we were there. When we checked in we were told that this was due to the heavy rain but we managed to get wifi in all of the other pubs in Lymington. We stayed 3 nights and the pub was never busy, in fact not many people there at all. I don't think they have replaced their tables since covid times and they were still spaced very far apart. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Very good value with an amazing menu suitable for all tastes. Always a lovely ambiance at these pubs. We took the family room for 2 adults which as a generously sized 2 room suite with large bathroom, however, the pull out bed was not comfortable at all, so be aware. Perhaps fine for a light weight child. The position is lovely - so quiet and on the doorstep of lovely walks by the water. Googlemaps overestimates the time into the town - we did it in under 10 minutes. Train station so close, you don't need a car. My only gripe was the automatic addition of service to our final bill for food. We'd have liked to have had the option to tip.

Chose the Mayflower as an overnight stop before boarding the ferry to the Isle of Wight. We were not disappointed. After almost 400 miles of driving and both of us in our 80's it was a delight to receive such a lovely welcome. We had booked a sea view room and we were not disappointed. The room was spotless, huge and extremely well supplied with tea, coffee etc. Breakfast was excellent but we had to wait a long time for it. The waitress came out and apologised for the delay saying there had been a disaster in the kitchen. We still wonder what had happened. When it did arrive it was excellent. The food was very good quality. My favourite was the crispy streaky bacon. My wife loved her eggs royale. Overall an excellent stay despite there being no lift to first floor. One of the staff did offer to take our luggage upstairs for us and, although it took us some time, we did manage to climb the stairs without help. We will be back.

The Mayflower has a superb location overlooking the Lymington river, the marina, the Isle of Wight ferry and the salterns. The cobbled quay and high street are an easy 15-20 min walk away. However it's outside appearance is tired with peeling paint and it gives off an ambience that it has seen better days...guests use an old chipped staircase with a musty smell and bad carpet. We booked the best room which was very large with a lovely big shower room and comfy bed. The furnishings were what you'd call 'distressed' or 'shabby chic' and I was fine with that, after all it's an old building. However I didn't think there was anything chic about the large sandy colored, upholstered wing chair that had a large unmentionable stain on the seat that looked like someone had peed on it! The bar area was nice with lots of sailing memorabilia and the cooked breakfast was very good but I opted to have a croissant one morning which was baked to order. This was a bad idea because croissants need to cool slowly and be served at room temp so the outside is crispy and all the lovely airy layers stay intact. Mine imploded as I cut it and steam escaped leaving me with a flat pastry with all the steamy layers stuck together! We stayed in Sept when it was quiet, however on sunny summer days with all the outside patio tables full of tourists enjoying live music and BBQ I imagine it's lively and busy.

Room was dark, fridge was very noisy kept us awake. It was also in need of tlc. Poor choice at breakfast, berry compot was stewed apple or something with apples. We were disappointed as it was our anniversary and thought it was not worth the money we paid.

We stayed here for a midweek break in the New Forest, and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. All staff were very efficient and friendly - nothing was too much trouble. Our room overlooked the Solent, and we regularly watched the IOW ferry arrive! Breakfast were very good, plenty of variety as well. Ideal location for coastal walks as well the New Forest. Plenty of car parking too!

A very friendly place to stay in. The staff are very good. Nothing is too much trouble. They are very dog friendly too. Biscuits are available on the bar. The food is good, nice menu. Beers are good. Worth having repeat stays.

A huge pub with a large garden right near the water and about 15 minutes walk from the town. We sat on a lovely high table for a drink. Looking around the pub we’d like to have dinner as the menu was attractive and the tables were made up to look like it would be a good experience. I was surprised by how not busy it was. Though it was a Tuesday afternoon in October. Maybe in the Summer it is packed.

The food menu is good and varied. The breakfast menu is the best I have experienced in any hotel I have stayed in. Well done and thank you to everyone for a lovely two days

Fantastic Sunday lunch. Amazing Yorkshire puddings and generous helpings. Fresh cooked veg and succulent meat. Pudding was delicious too! Worth the drive from Southampton for!

Warm welcome, friendly staff all very pleasant. Room was spacious, it wasn't until the evening when we put lights on that we realised how dimly lit it was also no plug sockets near a mirror to use hairdryer or straighteners. Slept ok, again warm reception when we went for breakfast which while it looked good was cold -nobody asked how it was so we had to find the waiter on leaving to tell him -said he would tell the chef. When we returned to the room later in the day the bed hadnt been made or the bathroom sink cleaned. We’d asked for a plug for the sink but no sign of one We had to leave early the next day so missed breakfast as it began at 8am.

Honestly the best Indian we’ve ever had. Absolutely loved eating in (two adults, two children) so we had take takeaway later in our stay! If/when we’re back in lyndhurst this will be our first port of call! Lovely mains, sides, breads and poppadoms!
