We chose this pub as it is part of the Butcombe pubs which we have stayed in before and enjoyed their hospitality. Unfortunately, this one seemed to be in need a makeover. There was an off-putting smell of fried food when we first walked in and this was explained by the fact that they had just finished lunch - fair enough but we stayed there three nights and the smell didn't go away. We ate here on the Wednesday and sadly the meal was not what we expected. My husband had the fish and chips and said they were very oily. We ordered a side of onion rings which were cooked in the same batter which seemed to be extremely thick and cloying. The meal came suspiciously quickly i.e. when we ordered the starters appeared 5 mins later. When the plates were cleared the main course was put in front of us!! I realise that there was only another 3 tables being used and no one else was eating but a slight wait between courses would have been acceptable. We were sitting in a booth which had a large hole torn off the seat (in bad need of a makeover). The room was very clean and beds were very comfortable but chipped paint on the walls makes it look worn. We were teased with the fact that we could enjoy their free wifi but it didn't work in all the time we were there. When we checked in we were told that this was due to the heavy rain but we managed to get wifi in all of the other pubs in Lymington. We stayed 3 nights and the pub was never busy, in fact not many people there at all. I don't think they have replaced their tables since covid times and they were still spaced very far apart. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Chose the Mayflower as an overnight stop before boarding the ferry to the Isle of Wight. We were not disappointed. After almost 400 miles of driving and both of us in our 80's it was a delight to receive such a lovely welcome. We had booked a sea view room and we were not disappointed. The room was spotless, huge and extremely well supplied with tea, coffee etc. Breakfast was excellent but we had to wait a long time for it. The waitress came out and apologised for the delay saying there had been a disaster in the kitchen. We still wonder what had happened. When it did arrive it was excellent. The food was very good quality. My favourite was the crispy streaky bacon. My wife loved her eggs royale. Overall an excellent stay despite there being no lift to first floor. One of the staff did offer to take our luggage upstairs for us and, although it took us some time, we did manage to climb the stairs without help. We will be back.

I stayed for a week to visit family in the area. After a difficult journey I was greeted by warm friendly staff who remained helpful and friendly throughout my stay. The room was well decorated and had everything I needed, except a refrigerator,. The bed was kingsize and comfortable although it creaked. The bathroom was huge and well appointed except there was no plug for hairdryers etc only a shaver point. Bromley shampoo, body wash, soap and hand cream was nice, but the addition of hair conditioner would be appreciated. I enjoyed my week in The Mayflower and would highly recommend it.Parking is easy and the restaurant very good. I ate there with family several times, we all enjoyed the food and the service was exceptional.. The breakfasts were delicious and generous.

The Mayflower has a superb location overlooking the Lymington river, the marina, the Isle of Wight ferry and the salterns. The cobbled quay and high street are an easy 15-20 min walk away. However it's outside appearance is tired with peeling paint and it gives off an ambience that it has seen better days...guests use an old chipped staircase with a musty smell and bad carpet. We booked the best room which was very large with a lovely big shower room and comfy bed. The furnishings were what you'd call 'distressed' or 'shabby chic' and I was fine with that, after all it's an old building. However I didn't think there was anything chic about the large sandy colored, upholstered wing chair that had a large unmentionable stain on the seat that looked like someone had peed on it! The bar area was nice with lots of sailing memorabilia and the cooked breakfast was very good but I opted to have a croissant one morning which was baked to order. This was a bad idea because croissants need to cool slowly and be served at room temp so the outside is crispy and all the lovely airy layers stay intact. Mine imploded as I cut it and steam escaped leaving me with a flat pastry with all the steamy layers stuck together! We stayed in Sept when it was quiet, however on sunny summer days with all the outside patio tables full of tourists enjoying live music and BBQ I imagine it's lively and busy.

A huge pub with a large garden right near the water and about 15 minutes walk from the town. We sat on a lovely high table for a drink. Looking around the pub we’d like to have dinner as the menu was attractive and the tables were made up to look like it would be a good experience. I was surprised by how not busy it was. Though it was a Tuesday afternoon in October. Maybe in the Summer it is packed.

Warm welcome, friendly staff all very pleasant. Room was spacious, it wasn't until the evening when we put lights on that we realised how dimly lit it was also no plug sockets near a mirror to use hairdryer or straighteners. Slept ok, again warm reception when we went for breakfast which while it looked good was cold -nobody asked how it was so we had to find the waiter on leaving to tell him -said he would tell the chef. When we returned to the room later in the day the bed hadnt been made or the bathroom sink cleaned. We’d asked for a plug for the sink but no sign of one We had to leave early the next day so missed breakfast as it began at 8am.

So, the wife and I had a weekend away at The Mayflower. The pub/hotel itself was very clean, and was greeted by friendly enough staff. We got shown to our room, where we dropped off our bags and had a quick snoop around, as you do. Room was very nice and clean, amenities etc all very nice. Noticed there was no coffee in the room, we asked the staff for this, was told that it will be in our room once we are back from our walk and dinner. This never happened, so had to pop down and ask again. No real biggie, but attention to detail. The bar wasn't that busy at the time of asking, so it would of only taken a couple of minutes. We had an early dinner on the Sunday where both the wife and I both ordered the roast dinners. All very nice bar the potatoes, they tasted and looked like they had been pre cooked for about a week, would normally complain that you don't get enough spuds, but this time we were thankful. Back up to the room to watch some TV and have a chill. the TV is connected to a Sky box and the only remote is the Sky remote. This was great, especially as most TV watched now is on non terrestrial channels. Couldn't turn the TV over, the box was situated behind the TV so you couldn't turn the channels over until I strategically balanced the box on top of the TV. A small tidy shelf would have been perfect for this to sit on. It then began to get dark and the lighting in the room became apparent. The emergency lighting bulkhead situated over the door with the prismatic diffuser and green indicator lit the room up like it was a runway at an airport!!! To try to sleep with this on, was quite difficult, even with trying to put a pillow over our heads to block it out. Spoke to the staff the next day and they said they had had complaints prior about the same thing, all because apparently there was an accident a while ago and that the person injured was looking into suing them,. The fact what we paid for the room (over £150 a night inc breakfast) and for the staff to know about the issue, you would think that they would provide an eye mask or even change the lighting to something that isn't such an eye sore (literally!!). Happy to propose new lighting, as this is what I do!! The final day we went down to breakfast, it was very quiet, besides the staff member and cleaner moaning about working conditions etc. etc. There is a time and a place for stuff like that and the fact it was in front of guests, wasn't the time, or the place. All in all, Lymington was a lovely place to visit, the pub/hotel was very nice, bar the few bits I have mentioned. Would I recommend it to friends, or others, probably not; and when we visit the lovely area again, will probably look at somewhere else

Stayed in sept 24 with my daughter and 2 dogs. Really lovely hotel. Great location. Great staff. Delicious food. Super dog friendly. Comfortable room with great amenities for humans (hairdryer, iron and ironing board, freeview tv, toiletries, tea/coffee). Large beer garden for when the weather is nice. My only comment about the rooms is whilst it’s dog friendly, there was no water bowl or bed provided for the pooch. We had our own but we’ve always had them provided in the rooms at other hotels. Apart from that it’s super dog friendly and will go back

The room was clean and tied into the pub's style nicely, with complimentary teas, shortbread and waters which really put the cherry on the cake. The shampoos and conditioners smelt divine too, it's good to see them not cutting corners with cheap options like other hotels I've stayed at. I woke up to a tasty breakfast that catered to my vegetarian needs that was not all-you-can-eat although with the sensible portion size, I wouldn't have needed more anyway! First things first - the rooms are delightful, thought I notice that, in line with many other places recently, covid, the room rates have gone up rather a lot. But if you can stay for a couple of days out of season it becomes better value. And it is worth it. The modern idiom of boutique hotel approaches its apogee here, and combined with a great restaurant and a wonderful pub (with garden for spring and summer visits) you won't be disappointed. And of coruse, Lymington is delightful little plce to visit with all the attractions of a bustling seaside yachting harbour.

Breakfast was lovely and food in the evening was nice although there is just the standard menu with no specials - to be expected midweek in February. The Mayflower was totally dog friendly which was really refreshing as we sometimes find that places advertising this are really just dog-tolerant. I would highly recommend this hotel for dog owners. The location by the marina is excellent and you can walk straight out to the nature reserves or alternatively its about a 10 minute walk to the centre of town. We really enjoyed staying here and will visit again.

We have visited the Mayflower a few times when in Lymington, it is a short walk from the yacht haven where we stay, has play equipment in the garden for the children and lots of lovely cosy seating areas. We visited on Sunday for lunch, had the most delicious sausage roll to start and a very tasty chicken roast. Staff all very friendly and accommodating

We had the roast. Children had chicken we had beef. Food was relatively tasty although potatoes were a bit bland and there wasn’t near enough gravy. We were also charged 10% service charge without being asked first (later found its optional) which would have been fine if there were loads of us or if the service was good (wasn’t great) but to have it added to the bill felt a bit like robbery. Get that it goes to the staff but all they did was bring our dinner which is literally the bare minimum.

A far cry from previous owners. No food now allowed outside in what used to be the busiest pub garden in the area. Seriously awful beers on draft top off a soon to fail establishment that the town could do with being great again.

What an absolutely lovely place! Stayed here for three nights: great food, brilliant breakfasts, very comfortable rooms and wonderful staff, led by Marcel, what a nice man! Also lovely walks from the door, a great area to explore. Thanks to the Mayflower team!

Good location, but unfortunately very poor quality food. We had to request them to replace some items on our plate as they were stone cold and stale. The meal was extremely expensive and no apologies were given by staff for the poor food! Real waste of money and won’t be returning unless it’s for a drink only.

Came in on a Thursday at 4pm to have a meal but told they stop serving at 2.30pm and restart again at 6pm - it didnt say this on the website (no times stated, so presumed it was all day service). We had a drink still but wished we hadn't - so expensive! We ordered 1 bottle of Corona and a Havana 3 rum and cola - it was a double but this is a cheap rum and I had to have a bottle of cola as they only had diet on tap. But still - £18! I've had the same order in other places and it's been no where near this price. Will not bother visiting again.

Fantastic location next to the Marina. Room pleasant enough, if a little gloomy light-wise; very comfy bed, shower and bathroom absolutely fine. Friendly and attentive staff, food very good.

I hate to say it, but the experience here was really poor. I want to state upfront that the quality of ingredients was very good but that’s about all I can say positive about the experience. Firstly with a disabled wheelchair user we were initially told that we couldn’t be served on the grass, and we would have to move up around the front of the pub through the main entrance & back through the complete pub and into the terrace, of which only one section was accessible for wheelchairs and would’ve been quite small and blocked any other customers from the area. Thankfully, one of the staff was sensible and we were allowed to be served on the grass. We also had a rambunctious Labrador with us which would’ve created even more merry hell if we’d moved to the terrace. The food/bar snacks was incredibly expensive considering the lack of portion size. For example, I will enclose a picture of the calamari . I would ask you whether this was worth £8.50. I do realise that prices have gone up but charging £4.50 for the worlds smallest portion of chips was another injury to the insult. My mother ordered the mackerel pâté and whilst it was good, and of an appropriate size we were served cucumber ribbons that contained basically only the skin of the cucumber and were inedible. My father ordered the sausage roll, which was exactly just that and again at £6 with no trimmings of any description, except some very strange leaves of wilted marjoram(that’s my best guess as it looked like a twig had blown on to the plate). No one came to clear the plates, and I couldn’t be bothered to complain considering the complete lack of understanding about serving someone with disabilities at the start of the engagement. I should’ve gone with my gut and we should’ve left after the drinks.

Booked for 2 nights in this hotel, however we never made it past the bar. We booked through Hotels.com for the 2 nights. On arrival we walked into the bar and spoke to a lady at the bar saying that we had a reservation. She looked rather confused and said that they where full and couldn’t find our reservation. Obviously we were a bit shocked having driven for the last four hours to get there and was looking forward to a meal and a drink. We stood at the bar and another lady swept across and started shouting that you must have booked for 2024, no my itinerary states the date and 2023. Again I was told I shouldn’t have used Hotels.com. If I shouldn’t use hotels.com why advertise on their website. This was not helping the situation! Which I politely explained. At that point as no help was coming from management and no phone signal in the pub, something I kept mentioning, we walked out and called Hotels.com They where helpful. It would of been kind and help a potential customer out by letting us use there telephone/internet to help us find alternative accommodation, but no. A couple of customers came out to talk to us in the car park and offer alternative hotels locally, more than what the staff did!! Terrible terrible terrible!! DO NOT RECOMMEND The management was so rude and unhelpful.

Decided to try out the fish and chips from the food truck in the garden. It was such a beautifully sunny spot so the perfect day to visit. All the food was cooked freshly in front of us and it was absolutely delicious. So much choice too! Excellent 👌

Visited here on a Friday night and was deserted so should have been a sign of things to come. Service was ok but quite slow and a little unorganised. Unfortunately the worst element was the food, was very flavourless, had a Jalfrezi and was the most bland curry I’ve ever eaten. Friend had a chicken dhansak and only contained three bits of chicken. The onion bhajis were actually ok but were completely dripping in far too much oil and left a 1/2 cm oil puddle at the bottom of the dish. Really off-putting. Took ages to get our bill and pay despite being only one of two tables in the place. There are better places in Ringwood by a long way so wouldn’t return.
