Krua Thai 88 in New Forest

Love their Penang and coconut rice. Great food!

The Krua Thai 88, formerly at the Wheel Inn. Proprietors Vicky & Chan are a hard working couple who strive to bring you the best authentic Thai food at reasonable prices but you will need to bring your own alcohol as they no longer stock a licensed bar. Lidl is just over the road. I can honestly say that their food is excellent, and as the many reviews from the Wheel Inn will bear out, this is some of the best & most authentic Thai cuisine that you will find outside of Thailand. I popped in to see them today & they will be open to receive you with a warm welcome from Thursday 9th June 2016. As many of you reading this will already know them then please put the word about. UPDATE: The KRUA THAI 88 is now OPEN. Please note, they do not have an Alcohol licence, if you wish to take your own wine or beer then that is not a problem,, Lidl is just across the road on the opposite corner. The Krua Thai is 1 along from the corner next to the Chinese Take Away. A word of advice is that it may be a good idea to phone them first if planning to go over when they open. Word is getting about as there have been many hits on this post, so they might well be packed out if you just drop in. As I said above, I dropped in to see them today (6th June) & they showed me around. The restaurant is lovely & has a garden area outside where smoking is permitted. Plenty of layby parking at the front. They gave me a takeaway menu which I have uploaded to the pics section here. Although they now have a website, it is in it's very early stages but this will be updated with content in due course. So, Welcome back Vicky & Chan. I know that many people locally, as well as far away have missed them since they left the Wheel Inn. The Krua Thai is now firmly back on the map again where it very much deserves to be. For those of you who have not yet tried their food then all I can say is "Do So", you will not be disappointed, it's Fantastic. If you like Thai food then you'll really Love this. It is also VERY reasonably priced. The Krua Thai 88. If you don't already know then you must give it a go. No Alcohol licence now after opening for sit down again following Covid, please feel free to take your own though & Lidl is just across the road after all. I just had a green chicken curry which was fab, full of aldente veg, light and delicate. Nice. Again & as usual, absolutely delicious. I come here a lot.

This is a really authentic Thai restaurant, if you want fancy plates, cutlery and drinks then this is not the place for you but if you are happy eating very tasty, authentic Thai food, taking your own drinks and getting the best value for around then head here. Massive portions, lots of choice and really friendly!

The restaurant itself is very small. But don’t let it fool you. For example the Tom Yum soup is amazing! The noodle dishes are good as well. Very friendly staff as well.

Can't rate it higher, a hidden gem. Went here with my fiance and the food was delicious. The woman was extremely friendly and warm, a lovely experience overall, you can bring your own drinks which I think is really good personally. Menu had alot of choice. Don't know why previous review was crying about Vegan options without doing his own research first. A very simple thing he could have found out in 2 seconds by checking the menu online or in the shop will definitely visit again sometime soon! Great food, price and service.

I'm sorry to have to write a poor review for a family run restaurant - it really pains me and I deliberate a lot before I do it. We went here and explained we are vegan and want to dine that evening. We were told in no uncertain terms that they'd be next-to-nothing for vegetarians/vegans to eat... As vegans, we've NEVER been told that at a thai restaurant, so it was a bit shocking. I get that restaurants don't have to be veg*n friendly if they don't want to, but then I need to warn other potential veg*n that might try to go there...

On my second trip this year along the south coast (live near Brighton) to the New Forest and will always, without fail visit Krua Thai 88 at least once per visit. The food is outstanding and the service very friendly. Highly recommended.

Love Krua Thai - We have eaten various times here and by far the best for Thai. They always go above and beyond with the little things! We had a large order yesterday and it was fantastic! Best massaman curry! Thank you.

Last minute booking for my mums birthday and we were treated like royalty for the night. Even when the restaurant had a 10 person walk in the staff were attentive and nothing was too much trouble. Food was absolutely gorgeous, 10/10 with very reasonable prices. We will definitely be back!

Always amazing food! One of the best places for Thai in Dorset...equivalent to my favourite Thai place in London. I've only ordered takeaway, so I can't speak for the atmosphere.

I went for an early evening meal with my wife and two daughters 7 & 11 as we were camping locally. The lady was very chatty and engaged with our girls. The Penang curry was delicious as was the Drunken Noodles. The girls had a Pad Thai and Chicken and Cashew nuts. Portion sizes we were very good too. We were about to pay and the lady gave us deep fried banana with ice cream and cream with compliments from the chef! We will definitely return when we come back to the area. A very enjoyable meal!

What a gem of a restaurant, the food is excellent, portions are huge, costs reasonable and the place has a wonderfully chilled atmosphere. Yes service is a bit slow but absolutely well worth the wait. It’s BYO for alcohol which only adds to the charm.

As always, the food is authentic and delicious with ENORMOUS portions🏆🇹🇭🍛 I would like to begin by asking everyone, please do come to this place expecting atmosphere. We noticed that bad reviews are complaining about the lack atmosphere. This place is about food and authenticity. And we find it is best enjoyed at the comfort of your own home :) We have moved away from New Milton to Bristol 6 years ago, and to this day, we have not been able to find a takeaway restaurant with flavours, at least close to Krua Thai 88. Our top favourite meals are Pad Thai(both chicken and prawn), Tom Kha Gai soup and Massaman curry with simple rice. I highly recommend this place and we will be returning every time we are visiting the area. If you decide to book a table, it is useful to know that you can Bring your own alcohol :) Enjoy!!

Such a wonderful place to dine. We were served quickly and with a kindness that goes unmatched! I went with my sister and my mother for my mother’s birthday (which wasn’t mentioned in the booking) and as a dessert we were greeted with banana fritas and ice cream which were absolutely delicious. The lovely waitress Wikki (I hope that is how her name is spelt) was extremely attentive and realised it was my mother’s birthday and therefore arranged the dessert which was a wonderful surprise for us all. The atmosphere was peaceful and the place is well decorated. I look forward to going back even just to visit the staff. Thank you so much Krua!

No atmosphere, person behind the counter would go for a long period of time. Food was ok and hot, felt like everything was just chucked in to one bowl, but portion sizes good. Found food was a bit tasteless. Bring your own, which was a good idea. Will not be returning.

We had the prawn toast and golden dipping prawns as starters, quite filling really delicious. We then had the red Thai curry which was super aromatic and flavoursome, such depth. Service was absolutely lovely. Highly recommend

We love this little Thai restaurant, it serves amazing authentic Thai food. There's a great choice of food and good sized portions. Very friendly and so accommodating. We were asked to bring our own drinks as they don't serve wine or beer and that's great as you can take your favourite tipple. So good to have such a fabulous Thai restaurant for takeaways and sit in here in New Milton!

Me and my Wife have been getting takeaway from here for a long time now and it's always so good! We have recommended this place to our friends many times and all of them have enjoyed it. The lady who owns the restaurant and is at front of desk is so lovely and welcoming. If you ask they will cook the meal to your preferred spice. We really like the Chicken masaman and a medium spiced beef penang

Not the best Thai takeaway I’ve had. Red and green curry were both quite watery and bland. Couldn’t taste any lemongrass, lime leaves or sugar like Thai curries usually have. The portions were enormous though!

Great... have had takeaways from here which were fine but sit in and bring your own booze is definitely the way to go. Only one person doing front of house so don't expect speed but the food and chat makes up for it in spades.

Maybe people are not aware but krua thai is now open again for dining in !!! They have only reopened last month after shutting down during covid . So good to be able to enjoy fantastic Thai food at a good price . This is now a BYO so bring your alcohol with you (or go to lidle over the road ).

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. We have been having takeaway from Kru Thai for a long time. The service is always delightful and the food fantastic, flavourful and well cooked. We went for our first dine in meal this evening and it was even better! Amazing dishes served beautifully. The owners made sure to look after us and were so kind and accommodating. First time trying this place, we're massive fans of Thai food and were excited to try it. Unfortunately the food was bland and sauces for the curry's were very watery. Expected a bit more flavour, the sides were nice (Prawn toast and ribs) Might try again but would rather drive to NUSARA Thai for more flavoursome food.

We have had takeaway from here before and it has been delicious. This time everything was very greasy, so much that all three of us had acid indigestion. My partner never gets indigestion so that's how greasy the dishes were. We were all on Setlers for a day. We had left overs but sadly some of it went in the bin as it was dripping in oil. It was a shame as we spent a lot of money, over £55 for three starters and three mains plus rice's.

Not the first time I have had food from here and as usual it was superb, Thai curry that tasted like curry, for a small business it does extremely well service is quick and efficient. It is a pity that this is just a take away now and not a full restaurant as it was. Would recommend Krua Thai to anyone that likes spicy Thai food

Been visiting Highcliffe for many years and sadly have only just discovered Krupa Thai 88 in New Milton. In brief stunning quality of food, more than enough to eat and very friendly service. Very highly recommended Neil & Paula, Sussex.

We enjoyed the green curry, red curry and fish cakes. My only point of feedback is the sauce was a bit too thin and wound benefit from being a bit thicker.

Absolutely livid with my order.The rice tasted like rubber and stale.The banna fritter had someone's hair in it which was inside the batter.The presentation was very messy and the onions and spring onions they couldn't be bothered to chop them correctly.The oyster sauce with prawn was alright but i was disgusted at the end when someone's hair is in my order.Seriously sort out your hygiene and tie your hair there's many other thai restaurants nearby!!

We had one of best Thai takeaways we’ve ever had. Restaurant owner/cook was amazingly nice and even gave us complementary dessert. Generous portions, distinctive flavours, and great prices - would highly recommend!

We had a take away and enjoyed it so much we went back again the next evening. Great authentic Thai food. The Thai Dim Sum was a definite highlight as was the lamb massaman.

Had BBQ spare ribs at their food cart at Burley festival 2022, the food was old from the day before and smothered in cheap BBQ sause - but their tampura fried vegitables were loverly - next time I will only order what I see them cook at the site

Have been ordering and eating at Krua Thai for years now, every time the food is incredible and the staff are amazing. Last night we ordered for 7 people (who are big eaters) and their portions were generous including their additional sauces, prawn crackers, their vegetable platters were enough for a feast. Our whole family adore their meals every time. Last night they even gave us a lot of free banana fritters which we are now obsessed with! Thank you to all your team, from the Westons.

Just has the most delicious supper. Absolute authentic Thai. Full flavour hits in every dish. Freshest of veg in the veg with cashew nuts. Freshly sliced white cabbage/ carrots/ peppers / broccoli etc. All cooked slightly al dente.Perfectly cooked Cannot beat the Thai holy basil dish either. Right back in Thailand. Thank you Krua. We decided to try this restaurant because of the wide variety of vegetarian options which suit my daughter. The food was not fresh, watery and greasy. Front of house badly needs decorating which does not inspire confidence in the kitchen. They have a 3 star “satisfactory” hygiene rating. The Britannia Thai in Milford is a much better choice.

Takeaway collected, was a large order which was of good quality and flavour. Green curry was good and nice volume of meat, red curry was good. Pad Thai was also good but different to what I've experienced before. In general very good for a takeaway with good portions of meat and nice flavours. Would use again

Haven't tasted better Thai in the UK ever! And I have lived in Thailand 5 years. All dishes taste authentic and we just couldn't stop eating! Tried Phad Thai, Panaeng curry, pad see Ew, and black bean/ginger tofu. Already looking forward to going back!!!!

Pretty decent portions and tasty

The Tom Kha Gai is one of the most delicious I've had outside of Thailand. I was also delighted to order Pad Si Ew which is never on the menu at Thai restaurants here in the UK! All super yummy and reasonably priced!

My well travelled friend gave a recommendation to Krua Thai. Saying it's the best Thai in New Milton. I finally had the chance to go and my goodness he was right! Full of flavour, generous portions and reasonable price, the owners are lovely people too!

I can only write about the take away menu and find myself agreeing with the majority of reviewers that the food served here is really authentic and highly tasty. Have eaten in Thailand and this is far superior. The take away is worth a visit and when things get back to normal I will be visiting for a restaurant meal. Oops almost forgot every time I have been here the quantity is too large and not sure if I should put what's left over in the fridge or better still in the freezer. Be warned.

This is the best Thai around. We always ask for everything spicy and traditional and it never fails to disappoint! Some of the best dim sum we've ever had! Currys and salads are so authentic. And the salads are spicy, hot and sour just like in Thailand. Never had a bad meal! Thank you for the banana fritters for desert too ❤️

Probably the best Thai, eat-in and takeaway, I have ever had. Portion size is really good with plenty of chicken and beef. Can definitely recommend the dim sum, and the chicken satay was the die for!

Currently only open for takeaway this restaurant produces most delicious food. There is a varied menu and portions are large. It's very popular and you need to order well in advance. Highly recommended.

Loosely based on Thai food - we ordered a takeaway - Panang chicken, fried starters, sizzling lamb and holy basil chicken. The food wasn’t fresh and seemed as though the chicken had been hanging around for a while despite taking 45 mins, very dry. The curry’s were watery and lacked proper flavour. The starter was probably just from frozen and put in the oven

We decided due to it being our wedding anniversary, to treat ourselves to a meal at Krua Thai 88.We had to have the meal as a take away due to the ongoing virus. The meal was absolutely fantastic, excellent value for money, thoroughly tasty.Definitely would recommend.

Always fantastic food and service. In these difficult times we decided to treat ourselves to a meal on Mother's Day, as always food was cooked promptly, to a great standard and was delicious. Even gave us a complimentary beer and crackers. We will always get our Thai takeaway from here :-)
